Author's note: So finally, I've been deciding to work on this fanfic. Unfortunately, it's been ten to eleven years since SC5 got a ton of flak and controversy (Heck, Wha Happun has done a good job covering this troubled game in its entirety), but at the same time, I just wanted to provide y'all a more alternate retelling of the game.
Yes, SC6's canon reveals everything that happened in SC5 to be a crapsack future, but I'm gonna do it anyway. Not only will this fix-fic of sorts feature a certain character's personality doing a 180 in terms of what's going on, but I'll also be adding in some OCs along the way (which I've played as in a couple of RPs long ago), as well as introducing characters that were from other SC games, but didn't make it in the actual SC5. Plus I might revamp particular character's backstories, as well.
Oh, and my old Soul Calibur fics were crap.
Keep in mind that certain backstories will be told in exposition, but I've tried my best in showing what happened. Also, my OCs belong to me and me only. Soul Calibur V belongs to Namco, on the other hand. Oh, and the Tristy in this fic is a completely different one compared to the Tristy in SCII's conquest mode, despite sharing the same name together.
I'm somewhat unfamiliar with the canon history of the prior games, but again, I've tried. Also, I'll probably be working on a future fic / prequel that focuses on the Mad Hearts's adventures eventually.
With that said, I do hope you enjoy!

Soul Calibur V: An Alternate Retelling
After Algol's defeat, everything seemed to be at peace once and for all. Siegfried Schtauffen had been able to do away with him, but at the same time, he believed that Nightmare would come back eventually to haunt him.
Thankfully, it wasn't the case. He was able to ask for the hand of his closest childhood friend, Tristianne 'Tristy' Lindegarde, in marriage, to which she accepted.
Tristy, also from Germany, was a brave, if somewhat gullible woman who had always been at his side until he encountered Soul Edge. In fact, while he was under his possession she had grown worried about him, to the point that worrying wasn't doing her any favors.
Meanwhile, Siegfried had become Nightmare, malfested under the sword. But at the same time, there was a counterpart to its darkness: Soul Calibur.
And yet, it had yet to be claimed by him. But for now, as Nightmare, had begun to encounter other souls, such as Raphael Sorel, and especially one that would develop a sort of obsession for him: Tira.
As for Tristy, she would form an all-girl group of heroines, known as the Mad Hearts. The first two members that accompanied her were the Faulkenn twins from England, Holly and Annabelle.
Holly was the more stubborn, yet confident older half, whereas Annabelle served as the smarter, and more cautious younger half. This prompted many a person that they encountered to give them a stark contrast in personality.
Next, was Kelly Witherspoon, a shy yet kind-hearted aspiring priestess from Sweden. Last but certainly not least was Nikki MacDonell, a flamboyant yet often high-maintenance Irish minstrel who had also taken up combat herself since she was a teenager.
When Siegfried was able to remember who he was, his allies from Schwarzwind, and even the Mad Hearts themselves, were happy to know of this. In fact, he had taken it upon himself to not only destroy Nightmare, but also Soul Edge as well.
"I know who I am...and now I must destroy the evil that once consumed me!"
Even during the threats that befell them, including Algol, both he and Tristy were able to develop their relationship, to the point that they would become lovers. As such, after dealing with Algol, they've tied the knot.
Both were now happily married, and Tristy would bear themselves a daughter, in the form of Marie. It was quite clear, though, that she would soon take up after her parents as she'd gotten older.

Though he vaguely remembered a strange figure talking to his sister, Patroklos Alexander was scared to bring it up to his parents. Roland and Sophitia would claim it to be nothing more than just a dream, but he knew he doubted it was such.
He had, after all, been concerned about his older sister Pyrrha since that day. One day, their father had passed, and said that before his death, he would bestow either Ares or Athena as Patroklos and Pyrrha's guardian deity.
Having rose up to the chance, Ares made a bet with Athena to see who survive long enough in a tournament held by the gods. To his surprise, she wound up accepting, and as such, the tournament began.
Athena was confident that she could make it to the end, and to not only become a good guardian to the siblings, but also a potential role model, as well. To her surprise, though, they would reach the finals together.
Despite her determination, she wound up getting bested by Ares, and as a result, he became Patroklos and Pyrrha's guardian. This prompted Ares to vow that he'd keep an eye on the siblings...whether they wanted it or not.
"I have won this tournament AND this bet. I do hope you're not afraid of my presence."
And yet, at the same time, Patroklos and Pyrrha's mother seemed to have disappeared...

As such, at ages 12 and 13, respectively, Patroklos and Pyrrha continued to be under the protection of the god of war. Initially, they were frightened because he had always worn a helmet, but whenever he had it off, he was less intimidating and more youthful-looking, despite the scar on his forehead.
This did provide them a small sense of comfort, despite his shrewd, overconfident nature. Given that their father had died, and their mother's whereabouts unknown, he tried his best to watch over them.
Thankfully, Athena, his sister and the goddess of wisdom, would always gives Ares a verbal beating whenever he'd shirk his responsibilities, and this was actually the case when Patroklos decided to go exploring in the woods.
Initially, he went on his own, but Pyrrha was able to catch up with him. "Why are you here, sis?" he asked her.
"I was worried that you might get hurt, so I had to go find you. If I didn't, you would end up killed."
Patroklos sighed, rolling his eyes as he said, "Well, I guess it ain't so bad, after all. Come on, let's move!"
The duo would venture further, until they saw a couple of shadows. Almost cautiously, Patroklos hid behind a rather large rock nestled in the grass, and did a quiet 'shh' to Pyrrha as they eavesdropped on the conversation.
"Listen, I ain't recruiting the two of you since you're just a pair of bumbling idiots!"
"Aw, come ON! We just wanna join the fray cuz we think you're awesome!"
"Really? You want to work for me because you're both obsessed with being anti-heroes of sorts?"
"Oh sure! Greed and I would love to!"
A long, drawn out sigh escaped the first man's lips as he finally replied, "Fine, but you better not screw up your duties. Oh, and don't EVER go near Viola, either."
"SWEET! Didja hear that, Malice?! We get to be whoopin' butt on a regular basis now!"
Patroklos then turned to Pyrrha and whispered, "Let's get out of here, before they notice us."
It didn't take long for one of the two boys, the rather chubby fellow named Greed, to take notice of the whispers. "Hey, Malice, who made that noise?"
Malice, the fairly skinny boy, squinted for a moment at the rock, and replied, "Sounds like it might have been coming from behind that whatchamacallit."
With the duo having noticed, so did the silver-haired boy. "Get those buffoons, and ask them why they heard us talking."
"Yes, boss!" Greed and Malice spoke together, before they headed towards the rock.
This prompted Patroklos to take a peek and discover the trio of boys walking over to where they were, and taking Pyrrha's hand, they ran off. At first, they were able to make it out of the woods, but in the midst of escaping, however, both of them suddenly came across someone in armor.
Patroklos expected it to be someone like Nightmare, but to the siblings's relief, it was Athena, standing with her rapier drawn out. "A-Athena?!" Pyrrha exclaimed.
"I saw that Ares was already napping, not to mention unaware you were gone together. Thus, I had to take it upon myself to retrieve the two of you." she said, crossing her arms as a grumbled sigh emitted from her.
"Ares was ignorant of...?" Patroklos attempted to ask, until the trio of boys would finally reach them.
"Well, what do we have here? A pair of runts that tried to interrupt us." the boy said, until he looked up and to his surprise, saw that Athena was in between the siblings.
While Greed and Malice cowered in fear over her presence, it didn't stop the silver-haired boy from drawing out his weapon. A small sword, it had some resemblance to a future weapon that he would create as he got older.
As he charged towards her, she deflected his attack, prompting both rapier and sword to collide together. It didn't take long for to him to finally break through, and hit her on the side of her torso.
Athena would then fight back by providing a small combo of four hits, effectively targeting his chest. He grit his teeth, ready to try and target her torso.
"Z.W.E.I., what's going on here?! And who are these two boys?!"
The voice was certainly belonging to Siegfried's, as he arrived on a horse and looking down at him with a slightly angry face. The two boys, Greed and Malice, that he had mentioned, exclaimed together, "We wanted to work for him!"
Z.W.E.I. was taken aback by their words, before he said to Siegfried, "These are just a couple of kids who wanna be in Schwarzwind."
"How can they be possible members of Schwarzwind? From what I can gather, they can barely fight, let alone put up one!"
Greed puffed out his cheeks, while Malice tapped one of his feet, almost impatiently. The entirety of their conversation was enough for Athena to tell Patroklos and Pyrhha, "We must go. Follow me."
And with that, the trio would exit out of the woods, leaving Siegfried with the three boys as they continued to talk. "They told me that they've never taken up fighting before, so I allowed them to join us." Z.W.E.I. replied.
Siegfried raised an eyebrow, before he said, "Is that so? Well, then...perhaps they do need training, after all."

Once out of the forest, Patroklos and Pyrrha were escorted back to Ares with Athena's help. Ares, who was in the middle of taking an afternoon nap, obviously because he was bored, was suddenly awoke by her.
"How dare you let them go off on their own!" she yelled at him.
Ares grumbled, before brushing some of his short, dark black (and surprisingly neatly combed back) hair as he looked over at her. "Ugh...what's going on?"
"Actually, I wanted to go off on an adventure, so I asked Ares if I could, and he said yes." Patroklos confessed.
Athena was surprised by his statement, before she asked, "So it was your idea all this time? Why didn't Ares go with you?"
"Because he was bored, even telling me he wanted to doze off." he replied, crossing his arms with a scowl.
She sighed as she briefly covered her face with one of her hands, before she said, "I suppose you're taking up after Ares, after all. Always doing things without planning. You should be ashamed."
"If only I had won that tournament..." she added under her breath.
"You didn't win because I was stronger than you, Athena. And you know it!" Ares replied with a smirk.
While the two gods were continuing to argue, Pyrrha looked over at her brother, and placed a hand on his shoulder. "It's okay, Patroklos. I do hope Ares's influence won't get the better of you."
"Maybe..."

Marie Schtauffen's childhood was much more joyous in comparison to the two siblings', since the things she's mainly do in her life was play with new friends, and go on walks with Hildegarde von Krone. She had been her caretaker whenever her parents weren't around, but she also reminded her that when she was younger, she had a mythological figure as her guardian.
"So who is this being you bring up?" she asked her.
Hilde brushed a bit of her red hair from her face, before replying, "My mentor happens to be Freyja, the goddess of war. She had provided me plentiful advice while I worked alongside Siegfried years ago. As you grow older, you will eventually succeed me as her pupil."
"Goddess of war? My mom told me she was also the goddess of beauty."
A small laugh escaped Hilde, and as she patted Marie's head, she saying, "Yes, that much is true."
"Hilde?" the girl asked. "Since I'm getting a little older, I don't want my head to be patted any longer. I'm not a child anymore, you know." she added.
"Of course, you aren't." she smiled at the blonde, as did Marie, until she took notice of another girl sitting near a lake.
Out of curiosity, she walked over to her, and asked, "Viola? Are you okay?"
Viola, the girl with the violet hair in curls, was able to look at her. "What are you and Miss Hilde doing here?" she asked.
"Oh, we were just out on a walk, together. You want to join us?"
"A walk...with you?" Viola was bewildered by her request, and as much as she wanted to see what the future would be like for herself, she couldn't help herself.
Standing up with a nod, she said, "I guess so."
Marie smiled and hugged her, before Viola followed her and Hilde's lead. The trio resumed their walk, and as they were close to heading home, a small conversation would be brought up by both girls.
"You still got eyes on him?"
Viola noticed the blonde's question, before a faint blush appeared on her cheeks. "I...I haven't really harbored romantic feelings for Z.W.E.I...not just yet." she replied.
"Maybe until we all get older, perhaps?" Marie asked again.
"Perhaps...but until then, we'll just play it by ear."

Eventually, their walk would conclude, and to Marie's delight, her parents were also there. Also present were Z.W.E.I. and the two boys that he recruited into Schwarzwind on his own, which caught Viola's attention.
"Dad! Mom! I'm back!" the blonde called out to them.
"Marie," Siegfried could only smile as he spoke, "You've came back. How was your walk?"
"And you brought Viola back here, too?" Tristy added.
Hilde smiled as the girl ran up to them; it became clear that the girl's future would be a bright one. Yet at the same time, in the next several years, her path would cross with Patroklos...
