I own nothing, except for Rose. This is my second Marvel fic.

This story was inspired by 'For the love of a princess' which is from Braveheart.

Chapter one

Lady Rosalie eyed her reflection in the full-length mirror as her mother gushed around her in excitement. "You look so beautiful! Tomorrow, you will be Prince Thor's wife, well, King Thor's wife!" She bit her lip and said nothing as her mother exhaled. "You should wear silver, you look beautiful in silver!"

Again, she said nothing. Besides, the mint green dress complimented her red hair. Silver was Thor's color in addition to red and she refused to wear them. She would not wear the favor of the man she would be forced to wed tomorrow, for she did not love him. How the gods had ignored her prayers and pleas for Thor to meet a woman to love and free her from such obligations. But they did not. She'd pleaded with her parents not to force her to marry Thor, but they wanted her to be queen of Asgard. They'd chastised her repeatedly for daring to do the unthinkable.

For loving another man other than the crown price.

To be worse, she loved his younger brother, Loki. She'd loved him since they were children; she think she knew the exact moment that she fell in love with him. Thor had accidentally knocked her into the fountain and he'd fished her out. He'd turned Thor's hair a vibrant shade of pink, which enraged his brother so badly that he'd thrown him into the water fountain. Loki had climbed out of the water and she'd kissed him on the nose as a thank you. They were but children then, but his smile had always served to warm her heart. Loki had cheekily stolen her first kiss from her in that moment and that had been the only kiss she ever received.

Their friendship had grown after that. They loved reading and often had deep conversations about many intellectual items. Loki had magic and unlike the others, she found his magic fascinating. There were nights when they'd just sit together by the fire, in full view of the others and she'd rest her head on his shoulder. She secretly relished those moments, his warmth, his scent were always comforting to her. One looking at them would assume that they were merely friends and none would suspect that her affections went far deeper than that.

Thor himself seemed to be all right with their friendship. He often asked his brother to entertain her while he went off in search of new battles and glory. Loki occasionally accompanied him, but he unlike his brother, had more of a taste for peace than glory. He was humble too, another thing she admired about him. Thor was arrogant and lacked the maturity that Loki had. Both boys were opposite sides of coins, different, yet alike.

Her mother shook her head. "I don't know why you insist on wearing that necklace. It doesn't belong with your dress."

She covered the gold necklace with her hand, as if she could shield it from her mother's prying eyes. She routinely wore it, because it had been a gift from Loki and she'd never taken it off. She remembered when he'd given it to her.

It been at the celebration for the king of Vanir and his bride. It had been quite a scandal, for she was of Midgard. Somehow, a portal opened and she'd wandered through. She'd managed to injure herself and the king had insisted that she stay and recover before returning home. In that brief time together, they'd managed to fall in love. Loki, as a wedding gift, had smoothly charmed Indunn out of giving one of her apples to the mortal, Amy. It had been quite the moment as Amy became a goddess, many people had been furious, but none had dared to speak against the king. Amy was a good lady and she could see why the king had fallen so deeply in love with her.

Loki had asked her to dance and she'd accepted him. The musicians had been instructed to play one of Amy's favorite songs from Midgard. Apparently, it was from something called a movie. And the movie had been called 'Enchanted' and the song was called 'So Close'. The music was unlike anything they'd ever heard before. It was beautiful and heartbreaking; Midgardians were far more expressive about their emotions than Asgardians.

Something happened during that song, they'd stared into each other eyes and a wave of knowing seemed to wash over her. She was in love with him. Far more in love with him than she had any right to be. She wasn't sure if Loki had sensed it, but his touch, the way he held her and looked at her had been different. She'd been so reluctant to let him go when the dance ended and he seemed without words for a moment. He'd reached into his pocket and pulled out the necklace for her. She'd thanked him and asked him to put it on her.

That was the moment when Odin had announced that she was engaged to Thor. She'd been stunned. No one had spoken to her about the arrangement. Thor hadn't asked her for her hand in marriage. Her parents had gone behind her back and lied to Odin, stating she was willing. She remembered looking at Loki; he stared back at her, an angry vacancy in his eyes. Her parents had appeared on either side of her to escort her to Thor's side. When she looked back, Loki had left the hall and she didn't see him again for the remainder of their time at Vanir.

"Rosalie!" her mother snapped, causing her to jump. She exhaled deeply before hissing. "Stop thinking of him."

"Who?"

"The lesser prince." She inwardly bristled at her mother's crude term. "I do not know what is wrong with you. There isn't a woman on Asgard who wouldn't kill to be in your shoes."

She bit her lip and said nothing.

Her father tapped on the door and entered the chambers. He surveyed her appearance and stated. "She needs to change the dress."

"Father, I-

"I'm not blind to see what you're doing." He stated. "It's a pale green, but a green nonetheless." He glowered at her mother. "Do not dress her in the lesser prince's colors!"

Her mother glowered back at her. "This is a light enough shade not to draw suspicion! It looks good on her complexion!"

She sighed and went to her closet. Lanira, her maid followed her to the closet, a sympathetic look on her face. She placed her hand on the red dress, but glanced at her and removed it. She removed a rich, violet-blue dress and held it up for her. She nodded silently and took the dress into the other room. Her parents were still arguing when she came out of her chambers in the dress. She'd silently exited her chambers and moved towards the grand hall. She rounded the corner and bumped into Loki.

"I'm sorry!" She said as he caught ahold of her. "I didn't see you."

"That's alright." He assured her. "I was moving swiftly." His eyes scanned her quickly. "You look beautiful."

"Thank you." She swallowed lightly and tugged the necklace, hoping he'd recognize it. "You look very dashing as well."

His eyes lit up and he leaned forward and touched the necklace. She inhaled as his fingers burned her skin with their light touch. "You still have this?"

She nods. "Yes, it's a favorite of mine."

He looked deep into her eyes and she nearly lost herself in his eyes. "Is that so?"

She nodded. "I wear it daily. Most of my," she swallows. "well, the necklines don't show it off as well as this dress does."

Loki stared at her, as if trying to find the words to something that was on his mind.

"Brother," Thor called around the corner and they both immediately separated. She turned at the exact moment her parents rounded the corner. Her father shot her a warning look, which she ignored as she turned back Thor and Loki. "there you are!"

Loki chuckled. "Indeed. I was talking to your betrothed." She hated it when Loki called her that. It made her insides crawl.

Thor nodded and grinned at her. "You look charming, Rosalie. The color suits you."

She dipped into a low curtsy. "Thank you, my prince."

"Ah, but in a few hours, it'll be 'your king'." He laughed as the blood in her veins froze. "And you'll be the envy of all the ladies of Asgard."

She said nothing to him. She couldn't say anything. She glanced at Loki, but he'd walked away from them. Her parents fortunately had the words for her. "We should make haste. The ceremony will take place shortly and she should be there to see you as you finally become king."

With that, she was whisked away towards a future she did not want or desire. There was nothing for her to do but to accept it. In an hour, Thor would be king of Asgard and tomorrow morning she would wake up as his wife.
