Her name was Ruby Rose. She remembered fighting monsters. She remembered her family, her friends, her team. She remembered their victory and everything they sacrificed to achieve it.

She didn't know what awaited her after death or even if she would truly die. Her plan of attacking Salem head on and transforming herself into a somewhat living prison made out of magical silver did work in the end, or at least she assumed it did, her senses cutting off shortly after plan's execution.

She didn't know how long it lasted, the void she was in for decades, years or maybe only minutes. One day the colors seemed to return back to her. She was once again able to move, even if only slightly. The time became easier to perceive and after, what she roughly counted, two months she was finally able to see the world around her.

She thought it was a world of giants. Everything was two or three times bigger than it should be, or at least she thought so for she only recognized some things around her. And it seemed she was sharing Salem's fate, imprisoned behind bars barely able to move while placed in a corner of a terribly colored room.

She crawled over to the bars. They were wooden, or at least looked like that. She tried to reach out to them, to touch it and feel something concrete instead of all the warm numbness she was feeling for the longest time after her 'death'.

Her movements stopped, her thoughts coming to a halt, when she saw what her arm was looking like now. It was short and chubby, the muscles she painstakingly built over the years of training were all gone.

She had a baby arm. Slowly she brought up her other arm only to see that it had changed in the same way. She tried to scream only for a child's cry to come out of her mouth. Shortly after, a woman with wavy black hair, white shirt, red skirt and a pink apron rushed into the room and started calming her down.

What an actual fuck! A now six-technically twenty six, or seven-years old Elizabeth Jones was getting ready for the first day of grade school. Her 'mother' was very excited, saying that a bright child like her would do great.

She honestly didn't know how to feel about her situation. At first she thought it was all a dream. A terrible illusion conjured by Salem that was slowly building her up into the sense of security before she would fill everything with nightmares. But it was too real. If this was all a dream, then how could she sleep and have dreams and nightmares of her own.

This entire world was too big to be an illusion. Even if Salem had eternity to think it all out she probably still wouldn't be able to come up with so many different things.

She somehow ended up in a new world. The size of the planet was roughly the same and the climates were somewhat similar. The main difference was the absence of grimm of any kind. As a child she couldn't get her little hands on many books about history but there was no mention of humanity's main enemy. There were also no faunus but people with animal traits were part of some fairy tales so they either died out or were in hiding. Considering how Remnant treated them it wouldn't surprise her.

The absence of grimm gave humanity of Earth much more space to spread and now this world had almost a hundred times more people than Remnant. On the other hand, without a common enemy, humanity lived up to its violent nature and fought itself relentlessly over the most minor of reasons.

The science seemed somewhat similar. There was no dust but the laws of physics were still the same. The civilisation was perhaps slightly less advanced than Atlas but slightly ahead of Vale. She couldn't tell, she only saw one neighborhood in the United States of America and their equivalent of the wireless communication network was definitely a few years or even a decade behind the one she was used to. Another thing that surprised Ruby was the abundance of different governments. Remnant had only about ten different nations at most before Ozma carved them into the four kingdoms throughout the dozens of different reincarnations. This world had almost two hundred. And most of them hated each other but were trying to be civilized about it.

Strangely enough, her aura still worked. It felt a bit different and the color was a bit off but she could still feel and use it. To an extent at least, her body still needed time to grow into it. Her eyes still worked as well but without grimm she couldn't exactly tell if it was any different or even if there was still any point to having a blessing from god when it's main enemy was gone.

And how the hell was the world so normal when she, a technically six years old girl, was able to set things on fire with a thought and make her hands sparkle all willy nilly. She didn't see anybody else do it. Although the guys in the church down the street did give her a weird look.

The school was a complete bore…

She was now ten and had endured four painful years of standardized education. On the more important things, she still couldn't find a proof of magic being a common knowledge so she was keeping it to herself. Thankfully the 'mystic guidelines' she was able to find seemed to at least provide some workable solutions. She threw herself a small party when she learned how to hypnotize people and was able to skip school without much problems. She spent most of the time studying the more important things about the new world or experimenting with her magical powers.

They were strange to say the least. Nothing like the elemental control of maidens or the overwhelming amount of raw energy that Salem had. It was more like a combination of different semblances, from telekinesis, self-enhancement and flights to teleportation, illusions and elemental stuff. She noticed that as long as she could imagine it and figure out how it should work, it would be possible to achieve as long as she had enough energy to burn. When she used a lot or made something complicated there was even a bright red glyph with her rose emblem in the middle!

And thus her sweetheart was reborn. Who would have guessed that it would be possible to transfer the light from the silver eyes into steel and make it a cool glowing silver blade.

She still couldn't get her head around the gun culture in the country. Her mother had once caught her reading through a weapon magazine and instead of the admonishing she expected she was taken to a firing range owned by her mother's friend. They even let her try it out! She may have gotten a bit too eager about it and blew all of the sharpshooting records out of the window with her performance but she didn't care.

Speaking of her mother's friends and extended family. Her friends were…normal. That was all she could say about them. Ruby may have grown out of her socially awkward phase but some remnants of it were still there and after spending all of her previous life surrounded by much more interesting people she really couldn't connect. She didn't have friends her age for exactly the same reason. How was she supposed to hold a conversation with a snot-nosed brat who was only reading cliche comics… the girls her age were even worse. As for her extended family. Well, she knew she had it. She had only ever seen her grandmother when she was younger when the old woman showed up and tore into her mother for not only getting pregnant from a one-nighter but also keeping the brat after it became clear that the father wouldn't show up. The rest apparently pretended that neither of them existed.

Her father… She wondered about the man from time to time. She didn't blame him for leaving, not everybody was built for a family life. She was able to get into her mothers bank account, it was surprisingly easy to do, and she saw that a few months before she was born there was a decent sum added to it. The next month as well. And the next. She even found something called a college fund under her name with a very good amount of money on it. Really, the only reason why she wanted to find the man and punch him in the face was that he screwed up her color scheme.

At some point the ends of her hair had started whiting out. She had the same black hair as her biological mother but soon after it started, her ends were pure white. And it was clashing with everything she owned! Even her mother told her that it was probably his fault. Despite looking to be in his twenties all of his hair was white. Maybe she would be able to magic it into being red…

Today she encountered… a thing.

Ruby was about to teleport home after some late night practices with magic when something triggered her nearly forgotten fighting instincts. Soon after she saw what it was.

A twenty feet long bloated crossbreed between a centipede and a scorpion with a human(?) face strapped on it. It looked utterly disgusting. It was salivating all over the place, or she at least thought it was saliva. It was dissolving the trees… She did try a peaceful approach but when it lunged at her with a… probably claw, she put her sniper-scythe to work. The silver blade cut through like a hot knife through butter and it's, presumably, blood sizzled on it.

It seemed that even in this much more peaceful world, there were still monsters that ran around and preyed on ordinary people. Oh well, once a huntress…

-WoR-

Her new 'normal' life wasn't meant to last. She knew it from the moment she accepted that this was indeed a new world. She knew very well that she wouldn't be able to contain her own impulses to go on an adventure especially when her supernatural powers started showing up.

Her mother had died in a car accident. A drunk driver ignored the red lights and smashed right into her. She was dead on the spot. She tried not to get attached. She always remembered Summer as her true mother but even then it still hurt. But not as much as she would have expected… She had to bury enough of her friends to grow slightly numb to the feeling. Yes, it would be better if she went away and took her terrible luck with her. Who knew that her uncle's semblance was infectious. And transcended both lives and worlds…

It was time to leave. It took her a week of teleporting around, hypnotizing various people and rewriting protocols. Elizabeth Jones was now dead. She was with her mother in the car during the accident and died with her. There wasn't much left for her to do here anymore. The school wasn't teaching her anything new and practicing magic in a major city was a terrible idea to begin with. No actual friends to leave behind and a family that couldn't care less. It hardly mattered, she was probably one of the most self-sufficient prepubertal girls in the world. And it was time to see what it had to offer!

-WoR-

She packed all the essentials she may need on the way. With magic at her disposal she didn't need much. Her main focus was choosing her destination. North America, while big, didn't have much to offer. At least from what she could find on her own. And she didn't want to share space with some guys in robes who called her 'a heathen magician' and promised to kill her. They didn't look like that big of a threat but she would rather stay away then start a meaningless fight.

First there was light. It shone throughout the dark field she was crossing while sneaking towards the airport. It was calling out to her. When she got closer she could see what was emitting it.

It was a spear, a beautiful white spear spilling golden rays. It reacted to her, the light becoming more powerful and covering everything she could see.

It was a tower, one made of golden light. It was the only thing she could see, the world around her turning into a chaotic sea of colors.

"Warrior from beyond the gap." A calm yet commanding voice spoke from around her.

A figure appeared. It was a woman with lush blonde hair and a gorgeous figure.

"I offer you an accord." The being opened her eyes and looked down at her.

Ruby wasn't able to answer. She was both awed by what was happening and her mind was running a mile a second processing it all. This being knew that she wasn't from this world. It wanted something from her. When the woman frowned, her mind went into overdrive with a terrible result. If it came down to a fight, she would lose. Terribly.

"You are not the one I searched for." She offhandedly commented.

"Huh? Wait, there is someone else from Remnant?!" Ruby's heart almost leapt out of her throat. It wouldn't matter who. Just somebody who would know her old world would be enough. Well… please not Cinder. If she saw that one again there would be a lot of blood involved.

The woman ignored her question, seemingly speaking to herself.

"A union between us would be…ill-advised."

The figure disappeared and the tower started to fade away.

"Hey! Wait! Answer me!" Ruby yelled out.

The colors returned to normal. She was back at the clearing near the airfield.

Still no response.

She raised her head to the stars above and yelled at the existence that had barged in on her, threw a mother of all bombshells and then left without an explanation.

"You absolute cunt!"
