CHAPTER ONE

It was a quiet night. Streets were empty. No cars drove down roadways. Street lights flickered on and off. Crows nested on top of buildings, calling to each other with harsh cawing.
A lone figure slowly walked down a street, the lamps shining on top of him as he passed underneath them. But the light could not provide him with a shadow. How could it? He was not human. He was an oddity. He was, a Vampire.
Tsukumo Nightingale blinked as he stopped underneath a street light, staring to the right of him. His red eyes narrowed, focusing on a line of bushes in a small park.
Something about it seemed off, unusual.
Glancing around, he made his way over to the bush, frowning. Hopping over a fence, he stood up, and stared down at the bush. Two ice blue eyes glared out at him. It then hissed.
Although not startled in the slightest, he stepped back, smirking.
"What exactly are you doing?"
His question was said bluntly.
The eyes blinked, then closed. A figure rose out of the bushes, revealing itself to be a young girl, with blazing yellow hair and two orange furry ears on top of her head. She stretched, putting her rump in the air and stretching out her arms on the ground, before standing up again.
"I could ask you the same thing nya. What business do you have with a Neko? Mr Vampire?"
Tsukumo stared at her, a bit confused. "I don't have any business with a cat like you at all. I merely wanted to know what you were doing sleeping in the bushes like a stray."
The Neko tensed up, glaring at him. "Who says I'm not one? Nya."
"I didn't." Was all he said, growing increasingly uninterested with the sly act of the Neko.
He looked at the ground, frowning. 'Pah. I never should have bothered.'
"You didn't?" Asked the Neko slyly, giving him a side eye.
"No." Tsukumo, now completely bored, turned on his heel and started walking away. 'Should probably head back to my hiding spot. Don't want to be out too long.'
"W-wait! Nya!" A delicate hand grabbed him, and static electricity zapped through Tsukumo from head to toe.
Snarling, he ripped his hand from her grasp, whipping around violently, red eyes blazing and fangs bared. "Don't touch me! You stupid fleabag!"
But the Neko laughed. "Nya? Oh. I had forgotten I could do that. My bad."
Tsukumo blanked for a second. 'Is this cat for real?'
Sighing, he loosened his stance again, shoving his hands into his sweatpant pockets.
"Well, I waited. What do you want."
The Neko suddenly looked nervous. Her ears laid back, and she looked ashamed.
"I-I am a stray. N-Nya…."
Tsukumo stared at her. "Hoh?" Was all he said.
The Neko twitched, feeling embarrassed to have even revealed her standing. "Is that all you can say Nya!?"
Tsukumo snorted. "What else can I say? Do you want me to sympathize with you? Sorry. Not going to happen."
The Neko was glaring again. "I didn't ask for you to! You were just asking what I was doing! Nya! I was sleeping out here! Because I'm a stray!"
Tsukumo said nothing and turned around again only getting a few steps ahead before the Neko called out again. Tensing, he thought about simply killing her right then and there. Sighing again, he turned to face her, glaring. "Now what?"
The Neko stood up straight, brushing off her sundress. "Well, c-could I stay with you? Since I am a stray…and who knows how many apparitions might strike down a weakned Neko in emotinal trauma…N-Nya."
Tsukumo was now taken aback, mouth agape and eyes wide. "Excuse me? Why would you want to stay with me?"
The Neko clasped her hands behind her back as she twirled in a circle. "Well…I just think it would be beneficial for me to seek your protection while I straighten myself out."
Tsukumo bared his fangs again. "So you just want to use me. No thanks."
The Neko bristled. "It's not just that! Nya! I'm…a bit…" Her slitted eyes looked down at the ground shamefully. "Lonely."
Tsukumo relaxed, though he was still confused. "I don't think that's a good idea. We're too vastly different from each other. Besides, aren't cats used to being loners?"
The Neko muttered something he just barely heard. "Not all cats…N-Nya."
The sky grew brighter, and he looked up in alarm. "I'll give it some thought, Neko. I have to go now. I can't stay much longer."
Indeed, his skin was starting to tingle. The Neko looked disappointed, but she didn't stop him as he turn and leapt into the air, black bat wings sprouting from his back and he took off. As he flew fast towards his hiding place, starting to feel itchy as the sky continued to grow a bit more lighter, he glanced back.
'Now that I think about it, I never asked her name.'
He folded his wings tightly as he dropped down in front of a old abandoned church. His eyes narrowed as he hurried inside and went to the far back of the room, as far away as he could from the windows.
His nose twitched, and he glared ominously around the space. "People were here. Normal people."
Scuff marks were on the floor, as well as the lingering smell of gunpowder.
He sat down with his arms over his hunched legs. 'Mm. I wonder what they were doing here.'
Closing his eyes, he fell into a light sleep.
END OF CHAPTER ONE
Author notes
-Tsukumo uses the letters of Wounds and Protect in Kanji. Did some research before using the name haha. So not to confuse it with the number 99 In Japanese.
-Right now I haven't decided on a name for the Neko. Something bright I hope.
-This isn't related to the movies or shows really but I'll include some of the characters here or there. Probably. Haha.
-I really just wanted to write a story about these Oc's but I can't publish it without choosing tags haha. So that's why I chose Bakemonogatari.
-I have thoughts were the story will go but it's kinda free spirited right now.
-It won't be a lewd story. Strange how I'd watch an anime with that stuff in it haha. I'm in it for the Vampires not the weird stuff.
-No offence.
