P.S. The story Team Minato is reading is my idea.
Naruko: A Kunoichi's Tale.
Knowing the future was dangerous; plain and simple. There were many reasons for this. One, it could destroy the time stream. Two, it could cause a butterfly effect, which again could eventually destroy the time stream. Three, the first two problems could mess with the plans of the god's, which would lead to pissing them off. Any sane person knew pissing off the gods was not a wise decision.
Yes, knowing the future ahead of time was a big no - no. Unless, the gods themselves decided that the future needed to be changed. In that case, all the rules pertaining to seeing the future went out the door. Why? because the gods could do whatever the hell they wanted too. Even if that meant breaking their own rules.
Four figures stood inside Amaterasu's throne room. All of them were dressed in the finest robes. These four figures were of the highest standing and if any mortal was to look at them, they would see that they demanded respect. The four were the following; Shinigami, the god of death. Tsukuyomi, the goddess of the moon. Amaterasu, the goddess of the sun. The last figure was The Sage of Six Paths himself, Hagoromo Otsutsuki. It was these four beings that had decided that the future must be changed. Well, it had mostly been Amaterasu's idea.
Amaterasu had gotten the idea after a recent visit with her mother. The goddess of creation and death, Izanami, did not call upon her children to visit often. It was even rarer for her to call on Amaterasu, the most powerful of her children. When she called upon her children, however, they knew better than to keep her waiting.
So when the sun goddess had arrived at her mother's home, she'd been surprised to find her mother in a frantic state of mind. In layman's terms, she was furious. Amaterasu had only seen her mother this furious once before and that had been when Chaos had tried taking over her realm. "Mother, what is the matter? Who has upset you so?" she had asked.
Izanami looked at her daughter with her dark eyes burning in rage. "What's the matter? What's the matter, you ask? I'll tell you what the matter is. Kaguya Otsutsuki has messed up my plans!" she said, her voice hissing.
Amaterasu's eyes darkened as well. The Otsutsuki clan was well known amongst the gods and goddess for being traitors. Now it seemed they had made it their mission in life to meddle in things they had no business meddling in. "What have they done now, mother?" she asked.
Izanami sneered. "Besides plotting to destroy the Earth? The planet your father and I created? How about starting wars simple to keep conflict going? How about causing people to die before their time? Then there's the fact that her stupid grandsons keep reincarnating themselves to keep their battle going. The worse thing, though, is that she has messed up the future I had planned for one girl in particular," she said.
Amaterasu's eyes widened in surprise. She hadn't realized how much trouble the god wannabes had caused. "So what you're saying is that the future is messed up because of them? Also, who is this girl that's future has been messed up?" she asked.
Izanami nodded. "Exactly, my daughter. I like humans to have the ability to carve their own futures as long as they stick to the rules your father and I have set. However, thanks to Kaguya and her troublesome grandsons, my human creations have been manipulated to follow a set path. I cannot allow this to continue as I've seen what the end will be. As for that girl, she plays a big part in saving the future. I'll show you," she said.
So Amaterasu had watched the life of the girl her mother had become found of. When it was over, the sun goddess looked at her mother sadly. "She was a brave soul, that one," she said.
Izanami nodded and smiled softly. "Indeed, she is. Which is why she has found favor with me, and I have decided that I'm going to stop the Otsutsuki clan," she said.
Amaterasu gasped. "You are? How are you going to do that, mother?" she asked.
Izanami frowned. "I'm not sure yet. I know we must fix the future of that girl. She is an important piece to fixing the time stream," she said.
The sun goddess frowned, thinking over her mother's words. Her mother needed time to come up with a plan to fight the Otsutsuki. Stopping Kaguya and her grandsons now, she had an idea for that. "Mother, I can't think of how to stop the Otsutsuki clan. However, I might have an idea on how to stop Kaguya and her kin from meddling with the girl's future," she said.
The goddess of creation quirked an eyebrow up. "Oh, do tell?" she said. The sun goddess explained her idea to her mother, who listened quietly. When Amaterasu was done, she looked at her for a response.
Izanami was impressed with her daughter's plan. "I have to hand it to you Amaterasu, that is a good plan. Alright, I'll allow it," she said.
Amaterasu had left her mother's realm and returned to her own kingdom after wards and had gotten to work. The first thing she'd done was summon Shinigami and her sister Tsukuyomi to get them in on the plan. The two were more than willing to help once they found out the Otsutsuki clan was involved. It was Shinigami's idea to summon Hagoromo, as he thought it would be comical for him to help bring down his own clan. He had a weird since of humor, that one.
The sun goddess looked at everyone. "Alright, is everyone ready to do this?" she asked.
Shinigami nodded. "I'm dead ready!' he said, a wide grin on his face.
Tsukuyomi looked at the god of death strangely. He could be so weird sometimes. She looked back at her sister. "I'm ready," she said.
Hagoromo nodded too. "I'm ready," he said.
Amaterasu grinned, bringing her hands together. "Good, let's get started then. Questions?" she asked.
No one said anything, so the goddess assumed no. "Alright then, let us begin," she said. With that, the seal in the middle of the throne room glowed with light.
Chapter One:
Enter, Uzumaki Naruko!
It was a sunny day in Konoha no Sato; The Village Hidden in the Leaves. The sunny day, however, did not depict the mood of the shinobi and civilians that lived there. This was because of the war. The Third Shinobi World War had been going on for many years now leaving the villagers with little enthusiasm. However, not everyone in the village was letting the dark times get to them. Two of those people were Minato Namikaze and his fiance, Kushina Uzumaki.
Minato Namikaze was a handsome man standing at a height of five ten. He had long spiky blonde hair and smooth tan skin. However, his most distinguishing feature was his deep blue eyes that could be warm as honey one moment, or cold as ice the next. He was also Konoha's best bet for winning the war. He did not enjoy killing people, but if it meant protecting the people he loved and his village, he would do it without hesitation.
Kushina Uzumaki was a beauty standing at five four and thirteen inches. She had long red hair, with smooth pale skin and her eyes were the most beautiful violet eyes. She too was a skilled Jonin of Konoha, although she was originally from Uzushiogakure.
The couple had plans to spend time together with Minato's team at training ground seven. That's where the two were currently headed. Team Seven or Team Minato, as most people called them these days, was celebrating the advancement of two of its members. The first being Obito Uchiha, who had recently made the rank of Chunin. The second was Kakashi Hatake, who was recently promoted to Jonin. It was the laters promotion that the two were discussing on the way.
Kushina was holding a pick nick basket in her hands, which held the bento boxes she had prepared for the kids. Her normally bright eyes held a serious glint as she listened to her fiance's worries about Kakashi. "I know he's a Jonin level shinobi Kushina, that's not what concerns me. What I'm worried about is that he's still so adamant about following the shinobi rule book to the letter. I know he means well in his heart, but it's affecting his team work," Minato said, his blue eyes dark in contemplation.
Kushina sighed. "He's still not bending on that? I thought you told me he was getting better about that?" she said, eyes narrowing.
Minato put his hands up in defense. "Yes, I said that, and it's true. Sometimes he slightly bends the rules. Though, he's still very strict and unfortunately it drives Obito crazy," he said.
Kushina looked sympathetically at her boyfriend. The man two male students had clashed from the get go. Kakashi was a natural prodigy, but due to the loss of his father, he'd grown into a cold and strict shinobi who followed the rules to the latter. Obito was the opposite in every way. While a hard worker, he still needed a lot of help in sharpening his skills. He also had a reputation among the village for being late for everything. So it really came as no surprise that the two clashed on a daily basis. She could see how both would be frustrated by the other. However, it was time that those two put their big boy pants on and tried to get along. It seemed it was going to be up to her to get them in line, since her lover was too soft on them. "Let me talk to them," she said.
A shiver went down Minato's back at hearing her tone. He knew that tone all too well. He was about to reply, but before he could, a bright light appeared sucking the couple in. A moment later the light died away leaving an empty spot in its wake.
At the same time that this event occurred back at training ground seven; Kakashi Hatake and his teammate Rin Nohara were waiting for the rest of their team to arrive. The silver-haired male had a look of utter annoyance on his face, while Rin looked at him sheepishly. "I'm sure he'll be here on time today. He promised after all," she said.
Kakashi's eyes softened a tad as he looked at his female teammate. He knew she meant well when she defended Obito, but she really needed to stop making excuses for the Uchiha. It wasn't her responsibility. "Rin, listen. I could understand if he was late once or twice, but every day? Come on. It's time Obito takes some responsibility and act like a Chunin, not some little kid," he said, trying not to sound too harsh.
Rin sighed, knowing it was pointless to argue with Kakashi. She knew he was right, but her loyalty to the Uchiha made it hard for her to admit. Would it really hurt Obito to show up on time for once? It was as she was thinking this that a shout from atop the hill caught her attention. Looking up, she had to rub her eyes to make sure she was seeing correctly. For on top of the hill was Obito, he'd actually showed on time for once. It was a miracle.
Obito smirked down at Kakashi and Rin, taking in their surprise expressions. Ha! For once, he'd finally proved Kakashi wrong. He started making his way towards his teammates, who were still looking at him like he was a ghost. He was half way down the hill and he was opening his mouth to say something to the silver-haired Jonin when suddenly he was engulfed by a bright light. Just like before, when the light faded, Obito and his two teammates were gone.
At the same time that these events were happening in Konoha. A small town in Fire Country experienced a similar event. Tsunade Senju and her former teammate Jiraiya were sitting at a small bar having a discussion, or rather, an argument, about the war. "Oh, come on Jiraiya! You know that this war is just going to drag on and on," Tsunade said.
Jiraiya sighed in annoyance at his friend and former teammate. "Tsunade, it's not like sensei can wave a magic wand and the war will magically be over. If anything I think our best bet will be to destroy the Kannabi bridge. If we destroy it, then Iwa will lose access to Konoha," he said.
Tsunade gave a snort and getting ready to rebuff him when a bright light engulfed her and Jiraiya. When the light died down the two Sannin were gone.
"What the-!"
"Ouch!"
"Get off me Dobe!"
"Shut up and I will!"
"Could you guys do me a favor and both hurry? You're both on me,"
"Oops, sorry Rin."
"Jiraiya, get your hands off my breast now!"
It took a few minutes, but eventually the group of bewildered shinobi untangled themselves. The group was confused and immediately like the great shinobi they were assessed the situation. They were kind of surprised to find themselves standing in a living room. The walls were a cream color, and there were three dark couches surrounding a wooden coffee table. At the same time, however, the couches were facing a theater style screen.
Minato and Kakashi pulled out their weapons on the spot. Even if the room looked homey, one could never be too careful. Rin, who was standing close by, looked worriedly at Minato. "Sensei, what is this?" she asked.
Minato was about to say something, but was interrupted before he could. "Welcome, Leaf ninja." A deep voice came from behind the group. The shinobi whirled around to face who had spoken. To their not so surprise, they found a cloaked figure standing in the corner.
Obito's face turned red, and he pointed a finger at the cloaked being. "Hey! Who the hell are you?! Why have you kidnapped us?! he said. Earning him a hard nudge from Kakashi.
"Shut Up, Obito," he whispered.
The mysterious figure put their hand up. "I'm sorry for scaring you all. I know this situation must confuse to all of you, but I promise you I nor my mistress mean any of you harm," a male voice said.
The shinobi in the room narrowed their eyes at the stranger. Minato stepped in front of the group. His face was relaxed, but his eyes were cold. "Excuse me sir, but how are we to believe you? After all, you have summoned us here out of the blue. Also, why have you brought us here?" he asked. His voice was friendly, but you could detect a faint trace of a threat.
The figure shrugged. "I am not at liberty to reveal who my mistress is at this time. All I can tell you is that she is not a threat. As for who I am, you may call me Kenji," he said.
Tsunade stepped forward, arms crossed around her chest. "Do you expect us to believe you just like that? How can we be sure you're telling the truth? Also, you didn't answer the brat's question. Why are we here?" she asked. Her honey brown eyes were narrowed.
Kenji chuckled. "Ah, wanting to get straight to the point. I appreciate that in a person. To answer your question, I must explain. My mistress is a powerful individual who has the power to watch over time and I don't mean a clock. Anyway, recently my mistress noticed that a few individuals have messed up the time stream, and she's determined to get it back to how it's supposed to be. Now, you must be wondering what this has to do with any of you? Well, let's just say you all are connected to a special person whose life has been specifically affected by this disruption. That's why my mistress is tasking you with fixing the future and getting it back on track. As for trusting me? That's up to you," he said.
The shinobi all stared at Kenji in disbelief and they were all thinking the same thing. "Is he telling us that we have to fix the future, but how?" Minato, who was a seal master, looked at Kenji rather sternly. "Are you saying we're going to break the law of time and find out the future?" he asked.
Kenji smirked under his cloak, hearing Minato's words. It was always refreshing to find a mortal who respected the laws of time and space. "That is what I'm saying, shinobi-san. However, before you say no, I want you to understand that my mistress has given the seven of you permission to do this. No penalties will be brought against any of you," he said.
The group stared at Kenji in stunned disbelief. Was this guy seriously speaking for the gods? Kenji, seeing their disbelieving stares, knew he was going to have to show the seals his mistress had made to prove his claim. "My mistress predicted that you wouldn't believe this. So she gave me these seals to show you to prove it to you," he said, taking out a scroll and handing it to Jiraiya.
The Toad sage opened the scroll cautiously, however, once he looked over the contents of the scroll his eyes widened in complete disbelief. "This guy is telling the truth," he said, handing the scroll back to Kenji.
The others stared at Jiraiya in shock, but they trusted the sage, so didn't question it further. Jiraiya spoke again. "Now that we know that you're telling the truth, Kenji-san. How exactly are we going to fix the future?" he asked.
Kenji chuckled before putting his hand out. A moment later, a huge leather-bound book appeared out of thin air and landed in his hand. Kenji handed it to Minato, who read the title aloud for the group to hear. "Naruko: A Kunoichi's Tale." "Naruko? That's an interesting name. I wonder if she's the one that somehow connects us all to the future?" he wondered.
The blonde Jonin looked back at Kenji. "Kenji-san, we except this gift," he said.
Kenji nodded. "A wise decision. Before I leave, I need to go over a few things. One, time in your world is paused, so you won't be missed. Two, there is a kitchen over their he pointed to a now open area, and the bathroom is over there. He pointed to the other wall. Three there are bedrooms for all seven of you. Finally, the television over there is for any part of the story you can't physically read for reasons, or you want a visual affect," he said.
The group nodded confirming to Kenji that they understood. "Alright, I'm off. See you later," he said before vanishing in a puff of smoke.
The group stood where they were for a few minutes. Kushina was the first to break out of her stupor. "Alright, everyone. The future will not fix it's self," she said, heading to the couch. Her words seem to break the ice and everyone else soon followed.
Once everyone was comfortable, Minato asked the million dollar question. "Alright, who wants to read first?" he asked.
Obito raised his hand. "Oh, can I read first Sensei, please?" he asked. The blonde smiled over at his student and handed him the book. The raven quickly flipped it open.
It was a beautiful warm day in Konoha no Sato; The Village Hidden in the Leaves. The village was bursting with life to the pleasure of Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage of the Leaf.
Everyone smiled as they thought of their village happy and thriving. Even Kakashi, although his smile was hidden by his mask. Jiraiya and Tsunade were a tad confused, though at hearing their sensei was still holding the Hokage's seat. The Toad sage voiced this aloud. "You know, I thought sensei would have retired by now," he said.
Tsunade nodded in agreement. She had thought he'd have already picked his successor by now, as she was aware that he planned on stepping down once the war was over. She wondered what had changed?
Minato also looked thoughtful at hearing this as he had dreams of someday becoming the Hokage of his village someday. "Here's hoping I'll make it!" he thought.
Obito taking the silence as his cue continued reading.
Hiruzen gave a soft chuckle before turning back to his work. Today he had the important task of making the team arrangements for this year's Genin hopefuls.
All the shinobi perked up hearing this. The Jonin in the room minus Kakashi smirked. Tsunade laughed. "Ah, Genin teams, that's always a fun time," she said.
Jiraiya nodded. "Especially, the part where you get to break it to them that they're not Genin yet," he said, remembering Minato's genin days.
Obito looked annoyed. "Can I please continue reading?" he asked.
The sannin nodded and the boy continued.
This year's batch of Genin looked promising, since most of them were clan heirs. He was almost finished putting together the teams. Only one team remained, which was Team Seven.
The members of Team Minato blinked in surprise. Obito looked up from the book, confused. "Team Seven? We're Team Seven though? Why is it back in rotation?" he asked.
Kakashi rolled his eyes at his teammates' stupidity. "It's back in rotation because we've all become Jonin. Once all members of a team have reached the rank of Jonin or higher, the team is disbanded and the number is put back in rotation," he said.
The other Jonin winced. "Or the previous members were killed," they thought, but didn't say that aloud.
Obito gave an annoyed stare at Kakashi's arrogant tone, but chose to ignore it for once.
Hiruzen frowned as he looked over the candidates; this year, Team Seven was going to be a bit different compared to the previous years. Usually, the members of this team consisted of the Rookie of the Year, Kunoichi of the year, and the Dead last. However, this year the Kunoichi of the year had gone to Hinata Hyuga, but she was already promised to Team Eight led by Kurenai Yuhi.
Rin smiled at hearing Kurenai was going to become a sensei. She knew that was the red-eyed girl's dream to become a sensei someday.
The deadlast of this year was also a problem. He couldn't place the deadlast on Team Seven this year due to it being Shikamaru Nara. As the Nara heir was promised to Team Ten to continue the Ino-Shika-Cho legacy. His son Asuma would be their Jonin sensei.
Obito looked up from the book, grinning. "Asuma's going to a sensei too? that's so cool! I wonder if I'll get a team?" he said, dreamy eyed.
Kakashi snorted. "Who'd be crazy enough to make you a Jonin sensei?" he said.
Obito growled. "Shut Up! Kakashi Baka!" he said.
" Enough, you two!" Minato said, stepping in before they could really get into it.
The boys looked down. "Sorry, Sensei," they said.
So this year Team Seven would consist of the Rookie of the Year, which was Sasuke Uchiha, the second runner up for Kunoichi of the Year, Sakura Haruno, and the Kunoichi of the year from a few years back, Uzumaki Naruko.
Kushina's eyes widened in surprise at hearing the last name. Kakashi looks curious, "Uzumaki? Could that be your child, Kushina-san?" he asks.
Kushina's eyes widen further in surprise. "Well, it is the future, so it could be?" she says, a tad bit of hope laced in her voice.
Minato looks worried. "Uzumaki, but why does the girl have Kushina's name? We're supposed to get married, but if the girl has Kushina's surname, does that mean something happens to him in the future and she has a child with someone else? Kami, was it selfish of him to hope not?" he wonders. Jiraiya, seeing his students panic, smiles reassuringly at him.
Hiruzen smiled sadly at the last file. Naruko Uzumaki, the girl he viewed as his surrogate granddaughter, the girl who'd been forced to grow up far quicker than any child should ever have to.
Kushina's eyes widen. "What? What on earth happened to my child," she said.
Everyone looked worried, also wondering what had happened to Kushina's child. Tsunade looked at Obito. "Keep reading," she said.
The girl whose hands had been bloodied before she'd stepped foot in the Academy.
"WHAT! What happened to my baby!" Kushina said, eyes wide in fear.
Minato put a comforting arm around her; although he too was worried wondering what had happened to his fiance's future child. "Read, Obito," he said.
He would never forget the night he found the terrified three-year-old in that alleyway shaking like a leaf. Her bright blond hair dyed red, her beautiful blue eyes full of terror but also rage. Or, the golden chakra chains protruding out of her back stabbing the three drunks that had tried to rape her right through the heart.
…
…
…
"WHAT THE FUCK!" Kushina screamed, her red hair parting into nine-tails and her violet eyes were full of rage.
"WHAT THE HELL!" Tsunade screamed, cracking her knuckles. She was absolutely appalled by what she'd just heard.
Rin looked horrified, unable to believe anyone in her village would willingly try raping a child, let alone the child of someone she looked up to like a surrogate mother figure. Her face quickly changed to one of disgust.
Minato looked positively livid. Even if he wasn't the father of Kushina's child, he still felt protective of her simply because it was Kushina's. He suddenly had the urge to go hunt down the bastards before they could ever touch the child. "What the fuck happened in the future to make men go after a baby?" he said. He said baby because a three-year-old was still considered a baby to him.
Jiraiya's eyes were also dark. He might be a pervert but he was no pedophile, and he took hurting a child very seriously. Despite being pissed off, the description of the child hadn't escaped his notice. "Blond hair? Blue eyes? That sounds like Minato's characteristics," he thought in wonder.
Obito looked like he wanted to vomit. "What the hell?" he said, sounding sick.
Kakashi's expression was between disgusted and livid.
Minato raised his hand up. "How about all of us take a quick breather," he said. He knew he needed one.
Everyone nodded in agreement, and Obito booked marked the page. The group was about to get up when a beeping noise caught their attention. They looked up and saw that the television screen had turned on. The message read. "Would you like to see what Naruko looks like? Hit Yes or No"
Kushina's eyes widen and before anyone could stop her, she snatched the remote and hit yes.
The screen changed, and a picture appeared. Awes and gasp filled the room as a picture of what could only be described as the cutest little girl appeared. The little girl in the picture had pale chubby cheeks with three whisker marks on each. Her blond hair was cut in a bob style, and her blue eyes were dark blue. She looked like an angel, really. Tears welled up in both Kushina's and Minato's eyes as they stared at their daughter.
The happy moment didn't last long as it dawned on Minato what the village was going to do to his baby in the future. Now he knew he needed a breather, or he might just try to teleport and hunt down the bastards who dared try touching his daughter.
