As K.O. opened his eyes, a wave of excitement washed over him.
It was the top of the morning, the shades-wearing sun shining over the Kincaid household with no cloud in the sky to cover it up. He greeted his mother, Carol, as she made him some scrumptious breakfast. "Goooood morning, Mom!"
"And a good morning to you too, K.O.!" Carol said as she placed the finishing touches of today's startup meal. "Since it's Saturday, we're having an old recipe of mine…"
"Jelly-filled waffles topped with whipped cream and sprinkles!" they both said as K.O. was handed the delicious delight and inhaled it like a vacuum in his mouth for a full 3 seconds.
"Hehe, you seem very eager to start the day, honey." Carol said with a smile. "Well, why wouldn't i?" K.O. responded as he left for the bathroom, quickly coming back with a toothbrush in his mouth and a tube of toothpaste in his hand. "It's not like i have the best job in the whole wide world!" he said, a bit muffled since he was still brushing his teeth.
After he was done cleaning, he changed from his pajamas to his signature outfit, consisting of a white tank top and work-issued blue vest. Then he followed his mom to her car, his excitement unwavering as she backed out of the garage.
Pretty much every day was like this. It was justified, as ever since K.O. got hired at Gar's Hero Supply and Bodega, things have been looking up for him. Sure, he's had his downer moments, but they've always seemed to work out in the end, in one form or another. Usually most people dread going to work almost every day, but for this little guy, helping out others and keeping the place in tip-top shape is the best part of his day.
"Ahhh," Carol said in a chill manner. "it's such a wonderful day, don't you think? The sun is shining bright, there's a cool breeze in the air, the birds are singing-" suddenly, one particular blue avian electrocuted itself after flying through a nearby power line, distracting Carol and making her cringe.
Meanwhile, K.O.'s inner monologue kicked in. Time for another amazing day at work! New day, new opportunity to improve myself and bring myself one step closer to becoming a great hero! And who knows what surprises could be in store for me today!
They soon pulled up to that legendary haven known as Lakewood Plaza Turbo, and Carol parked the car in the lot in front of the Bodega. As she and her son stepped out, they wished each other a good day.
"You be good now, K.O.!", Carol told her son as he walked towards his place of employment.
…
It was business as usual in Gar's as K.O. walked in. Many were either looking around the aisles for items they wanted, whether it be a weapon to be put to great use in battle or just a small snack for a quick stomach fill. A few even said hi to K.O. once he came in. He greeted the purple-haired cashier, who he knew as his co-worker/friend/big sister figure.
"Hello, Enid!" he cheerfully said to the periodically bored teen, who simply gave a small wave as he waited for a customer to extract some cash out of his apparently junk-filled wallet.
"Ah, no, that's not it…" the customer said to himself, grabbing a library card. Then he got a hold of a nail clipper. "No, not it either…" Then a jar of mustard. "Definitely not that." he said as he stuffed it back inside. Enid couldn't help but sigh.
K.O. passed by his other friend and co-worker. "Hello, Rad!" he said as this "Rad" was standing on a ladder, attempting to place a 12-pack of the new "Premi-Cola" (a soda which could supposedly temporarily give anyone the ability to see a few minutes into the future) on the highest point of a shelf.
"Oh, hi K-" the turquoise alien was about to greet his lil' bro back, but lost his balance while waving and fell off right in front of K.O., making a big mess of cans and liquid as a result.
"Oof… you ok, Rad?", K.O. asked him, concerned for his safety. "Y-yeah…" Rad gave a slow and painful thumbs up, and groaned as he quickly set it down.
K.O. noticed the huge soda spill and quickly got to action. "Don't worry! I can clean this all up!", he exclaimed as he went and brought out a mop and bucket. While Rad crawled away, attempting to recover from his injury (which totally won't quickly go away in the next scene), K.O. started moving the mop around, removing the glop of carbonated liquid off the floor with ease. Then, once all the pop was gone, he put the mop and bucket away, and brought a trash bin and took care of the cans. In just a few minutes, the floor was squeaky-clean all over again.
"Whew!" the hard-working tyke said, wiping sweat off his forehead. He then heard a familiar voice behind him.
"BODEGA-MEN!"
It was the ever-commanding voice of the store's owner, Mr. Gar. At that instant, K.O., Enid and Rad speedily ran up to him bearing salutes, ready to listen. "Yes, sir!", the trio all said.
The boss began speaking in a much calmer tone. "Good morning. I just needed to let you all know that i'll be out for about a half hour or so. If you need me, i'll be at the Fitness Dojo.", he said, referring to the place next door where Carol works. "You're doing an excellent job so far. Keep it up." He then left for the door, and once he stepped out and the door closed behind him, he seemed to suddenly grow nervous. His speech from inside the Bodega was almost inaudible, but from the few words his employees could pick up, it sounded like he was figuring out ways to ask someone out for a date.
The three went back to their positions, but before K.O. could take another step, Enid began to speak. "Hey, brush-head, someone was complaining about how we were out of potato chips. Could you go check in the back to see if we have more?" she asked.
"Sure!" K.O. answered.
