Biology

Physiology: Based on the fossils recovered it is theorized that Basilisks may have had semi-humanoid upper bodies, with their lower resembling a snake's tail. It may be possible that they were also similar to reptiles wherein they were covered in scales and possess other snake like features like fangs. They may have had exceptionally wide heads judging from the skulls.

Additionally, some old records recovered suggests that there may have been a subspecies or breed of basilisk called Greater Basilisks however, other than being notably larger there is no distinction between it and other basilisks that are known.

Further study required.

Behavior: Unfortunately there is next to no information known about Basilisk behavior. The only known information about them from the old records was that they may have been animalistic or ravenous, which may imply that they may fall under the Beast demon category due to lack of sapience. However, it is unknown if this applies to them as a species as such this cannot be confirmed as their natural behavior.

Unique Abilities

Now if there was one thing the basilisks were once known, for it was their ability to drain the magic from witches and demons alike, a skill that they were once universally feared for. In addition, basilisks are said to be able to transform themselves into humanoid creatures such as witches and even other demons as shape-shifters, but they need the magic that they withdraw from living creatures in order to transform back into their normal form when their magic reserves are exhausted.

As such many believed that the Basilisks were one of the rarest and most dangerous creatures to have ever roamed the Boiling Isles.

Which was why many of us in the Beast-Keeping coven could not help but wonder how such dangerous creatures were even driven to extinction...

Was it a disease? Or perhaps... genocide?

No matter. The Emperor's coven had finally made a breakthrough in resurrecting the Basilisk fossils.

Once it succeeds we will finally get some proper answers on these creatures...
