(Disclaimer: I don't own Marvel or Spiderman! This is an AU where all the Avengers aren't fighting (eachother or any major villains) and live together in Stark Tower)
Peter Parker walked through the doors of Stark Towers, looking like just any other intern, if a bit younger than most.
It had been an extremely boring day at school, and he couldn't wait to see Mr Stark and tell him about his new ideas for the Spiderman suit. He'd come up with an idea for making his web slingers produce different thicknesses of web fluid and was hoping to try them out in the lab.
He noticed absent-mindedly as walked towards the elevator that there were more people than usual in the lobby, but he was too caught up in his thoughts to care.
He pressed the button for the 98th floor (there were 100) and listened to the ding of the elevator doors opening only a few seconds later. Marveling again at how high tech this place was Peter eagerly bounded down the hallway, expecting to find Mr Stark waiting in the living room waiting for him like usual.
"Mr Stark, Mr Stark!" he said, almost bouncing up and down. "You would not believe how boring today was, but I have some new ide-"
He cut off abruptly as he took in the people sitting on the couch in front of him, they definitely were not Mr Stark.
"Y-you're the Avengers!" he practically screeched. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to- well I did but mean to but I didn't think- and now YOU'RE here and do you know where Mr Stark is? I-"
"Kid, slow down." Captain America (the actual Captain America!) said looking a bit overwhelmed.
"What are you doing here? This floor is off limits to interns." Black Widow asked, much less friendly than Cap had been.
"Oh, umm… I-I guess, errr.." Peter stopped, looking a bit like a deer in the headlights. What was he supposed to do?! He could say he was lost? But he needed to get to the lab, and where was Mr Stark? Oh no, now they were all staring at him! They probably thought he was trespassing!
He was starting to panic, thinking frantically of excuses and escape routes, painfully aware how long he was taking to answer.
As if noticing his fear Bruce Banner (his idol by the way, well, maybe other than Mr Stark) chimed in with a wary but sympathetic expression. "How about you just tell us your name?
"Oh, um, P-Peter, uh, Parker. Peter Parker."
"Nice to meet you."
"You too! By the way I think you're amazing, I mean your research on gamma radiation was incredible! Hey, do you think you could have a look at some of my papers?"
"How about you tell us what you're doing here first?" The Winter Soldier interrupted harshly, but Peter didn't miss Mr Banner's pleased expression.
"Are you Tony's kid? Did he have a kid without telling us?" Hawkeye said thoughtfully.
"Oh no, I'm not-"
"It's possible." Black Widow shrugged. "He did have a wild phase a couple years ago."
"Hey, how old are you, kid?" Captain America asked curiously, but Peter didn't get a chance to answer before Tony Stark walked in.
Relief crashed over Peter and he rushed to his mentor's side who looked down at him in surprise.
"Whoa there Underoos, I was only a couple minutes la-" He broke off as he took in the scene. "Ah. I see."
"Tony, mind explaining why there's a kid coming in here talking at top speed about how boring his day was?" Falcon asked, raising an eyebrow.
Tony shot Peter an amused expression before turning back to the Avengers.
"Everybody, meet Peter, my… intern."
It was clear from everyone's faces that no one missed his hesitation before the word intern. "Peter, meet Clint, Natasha, Bruce, Bucky, Sam and Steve. Wow, try saying that five times fast."
"Why was he on this level then?" Bucky asked, his brow furrowing.
"He comes to my lab most days after school." Tony shrugged.
The Avengers exchanged surprised looks. Tony hated kids! What made this one any different?
"What? I can be nice. When I want to be." The billionaire said, with a pout. Clint laughed, Bucky snorted, and Steve was definitely trying not to smile.
Peter covered his mouth with his hand, but a small giggle escaped his lips. Tony turned his mock offended face to him, putting a hand over his heart, which just made Peter laugh harder. The others looked on with amusement.
Suddenly a loud crash echoed across the room as Steve knocked his mug off the side table. Every superhero in the room leapt into a defensive position… including Peter.
It didn't take long to figure out what had created the noise and everyone relaxed. Bruce glanced over at Peter and Tony, except Peter wasn't there.
"Uh, guys?" he asked cautiously. The others followed his line of sight to the empty space where the kid should be.
"Where'd he go?" Steve exclaimed looking at the currently doubled over laughing Tony. "And why are you laughing?!"
Stark just silently pointed up at the ceiling.
"WHY IS PETER ON THE CEILING?!" Clint screeched.
"Uh, hiii guys." Peter waved at them timidly from his crouched position above them.
Realization dawned on Natasha. "He's Spiderman isn't he?"
Tony just shrugged, a smirk on his face and Peter dropped down to the ground, doing a small flip before landing.
There was a stretch of silence before the room exploded into noise.
"YOU BROUGHT A KID TO GERMANY?!"
"TONY! WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?"
"It was a stressful situation!" Tony exclaimed, but no one seemed to hear him.
Peter cowered away from their voices, darting behind Tony. The billionaire glanced at him and protectively put a hand on his shoulder, turning to glare at the others.
"Everybody shut up!" he shouted and the room fell silent again.
Peter could feel his thoughts spiraling in panic. This is the worst first impression I could have made! Now they all think I'm just some little kid, and they're mad at Mr Stark! Why did it have to go this way?
You were too far away to stop the cup from falling. A voice in the back of his head reasoned, but he was panicking too hard to properly hear it.
"Hey Pete, look at me." Mr Stark said, crouching in front of him. Peter obeyed, his hands fidgeting. "Head to the lab and let me talk to them ok? They're mad at me, not you."
"But that's worse!"
Mr Stark chuckled under his breath. "Kid, I've known them for years, I can handle it."
Peter nodded hesitantly before walking out of the room, glancing over his shoulder every few seconds.
The Avengers watched this unusually touching scene, staring at Tony in wonder as he stood up. "Well?" He asked. "I assume you have questions."
"Where did you find him?" Sam spoke up.
"Through YouTube, in Queens. In dire need of a new costume."
Natasha snorted, slightly breaking the awkward tension.
"Why did you bring him to Germany? I'm assuming you knew he was so young?" Bucky interjected.
Tony sighed, he'd known this was coming. "I didn't have many options, superheroes are pretty hard to come by, you know.
"But.. I know I shouldn't have. He was- is, too young to be dragged into this. It's too late to change that now, but I have tried as hard as I can to make it up to him. Not that he minded, but he and his aunt are living better, his suit is upgraded, he has a genius to help him with his homework. I'm doing everything I can."
The Avengers studied him for a moment before nodding.
"You are forgiven, Tony." Cap said decisively.
"I wasn't aware that was something I needed." the billionaire said dryly, before mumbling a quick thank you under his breath.
It looked like Steve was going to say something else but Bruce piped up. "How does he stick to things like that?" he asked, staring at the ceiling as if it was covered in maple syrup.
"You'll have to ask him that, he'll tell you what he wants you to know." Tony replied, amused.
Bruce nodded in understanding, still gawking at the roof.
After that the conversation broke off, everyone talking in pairs, watching the doorway uncertaintly. Finally, determining he wasn't needed, Tony left to find his kid.
Peter was tinkering in the lab, his Spidey suit draped over the table in front of him, web shooters taken apart and scattered in pieces before him.
"You ok kid?" Tony asked, going to stand next to him.
"Mhm." He replied noncommittally.
"They were just surprised is all. Don't take it personally. I should've warned you that they'd be here anyway."
"I guess I just wanted my first time meeting the Avengers to be a little cooler. Like me swinging in through a window with some cool line like… Um, I didn't think that far ahead." He laughed a little nervously.
"Hey, I get it, but they've all moved in now, or have got their own rooms at least. You'll have plenty of opportunities to impress them." Tony said sympathetically.
Peter brightened at this, looking at Tony hopefully, "will I be going on missions with them?"
Tony ruffled his hair with a laugh. "Maybe let's start with patrols and see how it goes."
Peter grinned at his mentor, bouncing up and down and rambling excitedly. "Oh wow, I'm going on patrols with the Avengers! This is gonna be awesome! What are patrols with the Avengers like anyway? Will it be small missions, like when the lady gave me a churro, or bigger ones? Ooh! What if…"
Tony listened affectionately, warmth spreading through his chest as he watched his kid.
*a few hours later*
Peter was still in the lab, debating whether or not he should stay the night at Stark Towers. On one hand, he could get much closer to finishing these web shooters, but he also had school tomorrow.
Absent-mindedly he pushed the wrong wires together, making a shower of sparks fly from the invention in his hand. Leaping back he heard Tony call out from the other side of the room.
"Careful, I'm gonna grab some more coffee, try not to blow up the place while I'm gone."
Peter gave him a thumbs up before hastily fixing his mistake.
Only a few seconds passed before multiple sets of footsteps came through the door. Peter jumped, knowing immediately it wasn't Mr Stark.
He looked up in surprise as the Avengers filed into the lab.
"Er, hi." He said awkwardly.
"We- we just wanted to say sorry about before. We shouldn't have frightened you like that." Steve Rogers said, looking sorrowful. The rest of the group nodded in agreement.
Peter's face went red and he quickly spluttered, "no, no, no, you guys don't have to be sorry! It makes sense that you freaked out, really it's fine-"
Natasha broke in with a calm, impassive expression. "We know. We are sorry though."
"Oh, well, thanks for the apology then I guess." He said with a half smile.
"Now that that's done do you mind me asking you a few questions about your abilities?" Banner put in, tilting his head and studying Peter curiously. The other Avengers laughed and rolled their eyes.
"I am pretty curious." Sam admitted, and there were murmurs of agreement from all of them.
"Ok, what do you want to know?" Peter said excitedly, sitting up eagerly.
"How did you get your powers?"
"I was on a field trip with my school at Oscorp and I was bitten by a radioactive spider. Somehow it's radioactive-ness passed onto me." Peter replied to Clint.
"What can you do?"
"Uh, super strength, heightened senses, something I call my Spidey-sense that lets me notice things before they hurt me, sped up healing. Oh, and sticky-ness."
"Nice." Natasha commented.
"What about your web thingies?" Sam asked, his brow furrowing.
"Oh! That's what these are for!" He jumped up and grabbed the partially dismantled web shooters, shooting a web at the nearest wall. "It's not working as powerful as it usually does since I'm adjusting some stuff. But it shoots out a web fluid that I designed." the kid beamed.
Steve's eyes widened, "you made those yourself?"
"Yup!"
"That's amazing! how does it work?" Bruce asked, and the two quickly started talking in science speak that no one else understood.
The Avengers watched affectionately, this kid was quickly growing on them, and they already knew that they would protect him at all costs, no matter what.
I've been working on this story for a while, so the first few chapters might not be great considering how my writing style has changed, but I hope you like it anyway! There'll be no updating schedule, but I've already written quite a few chapters ahead, so at least at first there shouldn't be any huge gaps
See you later!
