It was the first holiday season since Dick had died, and the rest of the family was not doing well in his absence. It was usually Dick that smoothed the peace between family members and got them all together during the Christmas/ Hanukkah season. This would be the first year that they would all be together without Dick being there. Usually, this would be the sort of thing that they all avoided but, it wouldn't be what Dick wanted. He would want them to be all together like a family. With Dick gone the job of the eldest fell to Jason, so wrangling together all the kids, planning the gifts, planning each night of festivities, and most importantly of all making sure that Bruce, their father, attended each of the eight nights of celebration. The biggest problem that Jason was facing was what to get Bruce, they had decided very early on that each person would get one big gift instead of eight small gifts spread out over eight days.

The others were easy enough; for Damian, he could just get him something vaguely animal related, Steph was also easy, anything purple would be fine right? Alfred was easy to getting him a new shotgun would work, he was the only one who didn't have a problem killing people due to his time in the British Service, especially when protecting people he cared about. Barbra was harder to shop for as she could use her Clocktower to constantly spy on the rest of the family but techy things were her forte and getting her anything like that would be fine. For Cassandra's and even Tims's gift getting them new weapons was on his list, while not traditional gifts it was the only thing that Jason could think of that they would like and not immediately throw away.

The only problem was Bruce after having adopted so many children and his emotional incompetence and never sharing what he likes, he was impossible to shop for, and getting him something he liked short of bringing Dick back to life Jason didn't think anything would be good enough. Sitting and brooding in the Manor's library was getting him nowhere so maybe asking the others would have an idea of what to get Bruce for Hanukkah. Starting with Tim would be the easiest. He was always in his room doing whatever he does all day.

"Hey, Tim!" Jason said bursting suddenly into Tim's room "What are you getting Bruce for Hanukkah this year."

"Dammit! Jason, do you not know the meaning of knocking? Or what a closed door means! It means DO NOT ENTER! I'm in the middle of something important."

"Yea, ok Tim I'm sure whatever you're doing can wait. Hanukkah is coming up and I need to know what to get Bruce so that he'll stay and celebrate with us this year. Ya know because of everything that's happened this year…..with… Dick…..and..." Jason trailed off slowly

Taking a deep breath Tim pushed away from his desk "Honestly, I have no idea. What can we get from the man who's just lost another member of his family?" Sighing, Tim stood up and walked over to another monitor. "Just out of curiosity what are you getting everyone else, maybe that can help us find what to get Bruce?"

Giving Tim a condescending look Jason said " You think discussing what we're giving each other will give us insight on what to get Bruce?"

"I don't know Jase, I'm just spitballing here throwing out ideas"

"Are you sure that you're not just saying that so I'll tell you what I'm getting you?"

"It's not that at all Jason, do you have any better ideas or better yet any other siblings to bother!"

"Fine, Fine Timmy I'll share my secrets," Jason said languidly " For Damian, I was just going to get him like a stuffed animal or something, you know how he is about animals. For Stephanie I was just going to pick up the first purple thing I saw, she likes purple right? Alfred was harder but I'm gonna get him a shotgun! Barbra is impossible, as you know, so I was going to go to a tech store and just pick up anything really, she should like that right? Anyway, you and Cass are getting weapons. Maybe I can finally have a sibling that appreciates good literature instead of you heathens." Jason finished

Tim took a deep breath and turned to fully face Jason who was leaning on his bed. "So let me get this straight, you're getting Alfred a shotgun, and Steph something purple‽"

"Oh yeah, what are you getting them then?"

"I'm not as uncreative as you are Jay, Steph is getting a book of riddles, and just because she wears purple as part of her Spoiler uniform doesn't mean she loves it like you seem to think she does. As for Alfred, I got him tickets to see Billy Elliot. Jesus Christ Jason, not everything has to come down to violence and weapons, I thought you of all people would know that. I mean until you died you were a happy kid. You had a bit of a temper but really what teen doesn't not to mention it was probably exacerbated by Dick and Bruce arguing at every opportunity." Tim rambled on

Jason interrupted Tims's trail of thought "This is getting us nowhere! We still have no idea what to get Bruce. All he's going to do is be mopy when we light the candles each night and after reciting the prayer is slink back down to the Batcave and brood.

"I dunno Jace what can we get the man who has everything and nothing all at the same time? If Dick were here he would know what to get him he always seemed to know just what to do to get Bruce out of his moods." Tim sighed

"You know even after all this time I still find it funny how much Dick and Bruce get along not. From what I remember before Dick and Bruce would hardly stand each other and pretty much every interaction ended with one of them getting on the other's nerves and storming off."

After a tense moment of silence, Tim said "You could try and find Alfred and ask him about Bruce, he's the one who's known him the longest out of all of us, even Dick. If anyone would know what to get Bruce it would be him."

"Is this your not-so-subtle way of telling me to leave you alone now?"

"Yes." Tim said, turning back to his computers and promptly ignoring anything else Jason had wanted to say. "Don't forget to close the door on your way out."
