Narcissa Malfoy was a proud woman. She prided herself that she put family above all. So when she read the Daily Prophet on November 1st, 1981, her hands were shaking as she dropped the paper onto the table.

"What's happened, my love?" Lucius Malfoy asked her, eyebrows furrowed in concern.

"He's dead." Narcissa said blankly. "He's dead Lucius. And he was betrayed."

"Who's dead, Cissa?" Lucius asked in confusion. She tore her eyes away from the wall she was staring blankly at, and Lucius nearly flinched at the righteous fury in her eyes.

"James!" She hissed. "James Potter!"

"What does it matter?" Lucius snorted. "He was a blood traitor."

Narcissa slammed her hands down on the table, glaring at him.

"He was my cousin." She sneered. "My family. How dare-"

"I'm sorry, darling." Lucius said, trying to placate his wife who was filled with ire.

"No. I'm going to Azkaban." She said, getting up from the table and walking away, spine straight.

"Azkaban?" Lucius nearly shouted. "Why?"

"To see him. The man that betrayed James."

"Who?" Lucius demanded.

She stepped in the fireplace, floo powder in hand.

"Sirius." And with that, she disappeared in a flurry of green flames.

Azkaban was a cold, dark place that sent shivers down her spine. But she steeled herself and walked into the maximum security area, patronus in front of her as she made her way to Sirius' cell.

She saw him, and he looked mad. He was sitting in the darkest corner of the cell, knees hugged to his chest, face blank as he kept muttering and mumbling things Narcissa could not make out.

She stared blankly at him.

"Why?" She asked, and he did not answer. Did not even look at her.

"Sirius," She said again. "Look at me, dammit!" She shouted, her voice echoing through the dank, damp stone walls.

He looked up, grey eyes meeting her own. He did not speak.

"Why did you betray him? James! Our friend." She whispered, tears filling her eyes. "Our cousin."

He did not answer.

"Answer me!" She begged, losing grasp of her composure. His shoulders sagged, and his eyes finally showed emotion.

Regret. Pain. Anger. Loss.

"It wasn't me," He whispered. "It wasn't me. It wasn't me." He said over and over again, and Narcissa felt her heart break. She slid down to her knees, and he moved closer to the caged door. She reached through the bars and gently laid a hand on his face.

"What do you mean?" She whispered softly.

"I wasn't the secret keeper, Narcissa." He whispered. "It was Peter Pettigrew. I was a decoy. Then the wards failed and I knew they were gone. I went to Godric's Hollow but..Harry," he choked on the boy's name. "He was already in Hagrid's arms, he wouldn't give him to me. So then, I went to look for Peter. He blew up the street, cut his finger off, transformed into a rat, then ran away. Believe me," He begged. "It wasn't me."

Narcissa knew in that moment that she believed him. She did not know how she didn't to begin with. Sirius would never betray their cousin. Not James. Never him.

"I believe you," She whispered. "I'll get you out of here."

"No. I deserve this. It was my fault." He whispered brokenly.

"No." She said fiercly. "I will get you out, cousin."

"Cissa..." Sirius whispered, broken tears spilling out of his eyes. "I'm sorry."

"We will get out of this mess," Narcissa whispered. "I swear it. The House of Black will not die, and you will not rot in here."

"Harry!" Sirius said. "We have to get Harry..I don't know where he is-"

"I will find Harry, cousin. And you will raise him. I swear it." She said fiercely, gathering herself, readying to storm the ministry.

"I DEMAND A TRIAL!" She shouted at the Head of the DMLE.

"I am afraid, Lady Malfoy," Barty Crouch sneered. "That that is simply not possible. It was confirmed-"

"Confirmed?" She sneered. "How? did you check his wand?"

"No, however-"

"Did you question him under veritserum?" She cut the man off, who was getting flustered.

"Well, no, but-"

"Did you even bother questioning him at all?" Her voice was deathly calm.

"No-"

"Then," She cut him off once more, silencing him with a mere glare as the flustered man with the toothbrush mustache wilted in her stare. "I demand you give Sirius Black a trial, for if you do not, I will file a formal complaint to the Wizengamot as a daughter of House Black," he opened his mouth to interrupt but she merely raised a dainty finger and narrowed her eyes once more at the man before continuing. "That it's Heir, the man that is meant to take up the Lordship has been unjustly imprisoned and is illegaly being held in a high security cell in Azkaban with no official charges, as a trial has not happened."

"Lady Malfoy-"

"No. Demand an emergency Wizengamot meeting." He did not move. "Now, Barty." Her voice was dangerously low. He did as told.

She smiled in smugness the entire case after Sirius had been moved from Azkaban and questioned under veritaserum, proven innocent. Though, Peter Pettigrew was not yet found.

"I told you I'd get you out, cousin." She whispered to him as they apparated to Gringotts, for Sirius to take up the lordship mantle.

"Thank you, Cissy," he breathed in relief.

"I can never thank James," is all she said, quite randomly. Sirius tensed, his eyes pained.

"For what?"

"He and Lily ended the war," She whispered. "My husband is no longer a slave to that man," her eyes were teary as she met her cousin's identical gaze. "I just wish it didn't cost me my cousin and his family."

"I will get Harry back," Sirius said softly. "And..I would really like if you could be a part of his life.." He stopped as he noticed Narcissa tense. He grimaced. "I only meant that..he'd need a woman..mother figure in his life and-"

He was cut off with a bone crushing hug from Narcissa. Her body shook, he ignored that she was crying into his shoulder-for her sake, of course- and held her.

"Thank you," She whispered. "Maybe little Draco can grow up with a brother.."

Sirius smiled, ignoring the fact he would very well have to tolerate Lucius. "Perhaps," he agreed. "I'm going to be raising the one and half year old Lord of House Potter," Sirius murmured. "I know all the behavior and etiquette, but he's going to need a sharp mind in politics," Sirius said. "I would like if you could teach him."

"I would love to," Narcissa said gracefully.

The entered the golden gilded doors of gringotts and waited with the Black Family Account Manager, Gornuk.

"Hello Master Gornuk," Sirius said, bowing politely.

"Hello, Heir Black," Gornuk bowed back.

"I would like to take up the mantle of Lord Black," Sirius said politely. Gornuk nodded.

"Of course," the Goblin stated, before taking out a black box with the heir and Lordship rings.

He presented Sirius with the Lordship Ring and a contract, signing over all Black holdings, money, business, and antiquities to him.

Sirius slid the onyx and ivory ring onto his finger, filled with the warmth and protection of the family magic and wisdom of past Lords. He signed the contract with a blood quill, then looked to Cissa.

"I'm reinstating Andromeda and her family as House of Black," Sirius said, it was a statement. No room for argument. Cissa breathed a sigh of relief and gave him a watery smile.

"I knew you would, which is why I wrote to them. They will be at the manor shortly,"

Sirius grinned, kissing his cousin on the cheek. He then turned to his account manager.

"May I see the Potter Will?"

"Unfortunately, it has been sealed by the Chief Warlock, and the only other copy is left in the Potter Vaults which can only be opened by its Lord." Gornuk said, apologetically. The Potters were considered Goblin Friends, which was rare in and of itself, and now all of them have died, leaving only a babe to carry on its legacy.

Sirius and Narcissa spluttered in shock. "W-Well, where is he?" Narcissa asked in shock.

"Albus Dumbledore said that he was to be living with some relatives," Gornuk said, then turned to Sirius. "Thank you for your business Lord Black, may your gold flow for years to come."

"Thank you Gornuk," Sirius said, still in shock. "May your enemies tremble before your mighty sword."

They walked out. "The Potters don't have any relatives-OH BUGGER! That piece of manipulating shite!" Sirius seethed.

"What happened?" Narcissa demanded.

"He left Harry with Lily's family. The muggles who loathe magic and anything to do with it."

"A Potter? Raised by muggles?!" The gravity of his words caught up to her. "Muggles who hate everything to do with us," Her heart skipped a beat. "She's setting Harry up to be abused."

"Not on my watch," he growled. "I know where they bloody live,"

He grasped her hand, turned, and they apparated to Little Whinging, Surrey.

Number 4 Privet Drive was a basic home that looked like everyone else's in the neighborhood. Sirius and Narcissa grimaced. So..normal. Nothing special about any of it. Sirius pounded on the door, shaking in anger.

A blonde woman with ice cold eyes opened it and sneered. "YOU!" She sneered. "Your kind dropped that freak of a child on my doorstep and have the gall to show up here-"

"The what?" Narcissa asked calmly.

"The freak," She sneered. "You all are freaks, now go away!"

"Perhaps you don't know who I am," Narcissa said calmly, her smile razor sharp as she stepped forward, into the threshold of the womans home, who stepped back in fear.

"I am Lady Narcissa Malfoy, this is Lord Sirius Black..and that child you so dearly called a freak is our family, and the Lord of one of the most prominent and richest Houses in the Wizarding World."

Petunia's eyes went wide, her expression filled with greed. "Then we will keep him," She snapped.

"No, you will not. Harry Potter was meant to be placed in my care," Sirius snapped. "Evidently, he was kidnapped. I am here to get him back."

That was when they heard crying, and not from the babe in her arms. Petunia tensed. The magicals walked further into the home, where the crying was coming from.

"NO!"

But it was too late, Narcissa opened the door, and found a bundle of child in the cold spider filled cupboard. Its diaper smelling foul, as though it hadn't been changed in days. She screamed.

"HOW DARE YOU!?"

It was only the timely arrival of Dumbledore that stopped her and Sirius from killing the cowardly muggle. Sirius quickly grabbed Harry and Narcissa, whispering words of apologies to Harry as he apparated them out of there.

Dumbledore was not pleased.

Narcissa was seething as was Lucius as she had explained.

"How dare he!" Lucius exclaimed in shock, watching Sirius cradle the newly cleaned up Lord of House Potter, who had eaten and was sleeping soundly in Sirius' arms. Sirius was shaking.

"That-that was going to be his life," He said in shock. "I should bloody kill Dumbledore-"

"I will take him down with you," the Malfoys said in unison.

Once Andromeda, Ted, and their daughter arrived, the adults were briefed as the metamorph played with the babies.

Lucius found it quite easy to tolerate them all, but he would never admit the fact he liked them.

Albus Dumbledore had just raised the ire of some very awful people to anger.

He was going to be taken down.

Andromeda looked at little Harry giggling a laugh and summoning a pillow to hit Dora in the head to play, and she shook her head and hardened her resolve.

The senile, twinkley eyed man was going down.
