Ch.1: A New Beginning

Ah, A Wednesday. A day where no expects big things. It's the point between the beginning and end of the week. But for me, July 11th, 2012, was a day of monumental and permanent change.

I should back up and introduce myself. My name is David Root. At the time, I was 15, roughly two months away from my 16th birthday. My life had been a good one, though it nearly charted a turn for bad when I was seven. My mom had been set up on a date with a guy who will go unnamed. The man, sadly, had his demons, and mom, for the sake of her kids, did not pursue him any further. It would not be long before Cupid's arrow struck her with another.

And that man's name was Devin. Devin was an old friend of hers from their time as teenagers. A man with quiet resolve and a friendly demeanor, I took a liking to Devin. Perhaps he would make my mom happy. And happy he did! He was wedded to my mom two years later, a year after the birth of my sister Alexis, or Lexi as I call her.

Over the next several years, life was lived. Mom would purchase a nice house in the outskirts of the small town of Onaway, Michigan, and I began to have a relationship with my father. At school, I was quiet. I did my work and left. If only I could know where the winds of change were blowing.

The morning of July 11th, I opened my eyes at eight that morning, thinking over the plan that day. Lexi had a doctor's appointment that afternoon, but it was a free day. I slowly rose off the twin sized bed, smiling down at my frame. A tall guy in height, I had been blessed with a skinny frame- about 190 pounds. Crossing over to my bedroom mirror, I could only grin. Then, as quick as that grin came, came the fall…

I could only scream as I saw it, behind me, the portal would suck in my room's furnishings. I turned my head, widening my eyes. Due to the intense gravity, my clothes had been crushes to ashes, though the furnishes were fine.

Before I could comprehend these events, My head would hit the grass below. I gasped, before going limp. As my vision faded away, I heard panicked shouts, and a man running towards me.

For Igneous Rock, he was in a good mood. He nodded to himself as he dried his coffee cup, getting ready to brew some Joe. Mentally, he thought on his plans. He smiled to himself, allowing himself to scratch his gray bearded chin. He was free for the day as far as he knew. Maybe Cloudy had something in mind?

His thoughts were soon interrupted as the corner of his eye caught the sight of a human falling, with furniture right behind them. Igneous did not think twice before rushing outside and down the steps, only to gasp at his vision's camera.

I was unconscious on the front yard. My TV lay on top of the bushes, almost toppling over. The furniture was skewed all around me. Igneous walked over, squatting, and feeling my hand for a pulse. He sighed in relief, then looked up. The portal had disappeared.

Igneous looked over to the front door, then back to me. Wordlessly, he quickly ran to the garage and got his van started- A 2003 Dodge Caravan. I felt nothing as he lifted me like I was a feather. Sending a quick text to Cloudy to meet him at the hospital, he took off, a new beginning at hand for both of us.

And certainly, more to come.
