Hello there. This is my first fanfiction ever and my English is not perfect. But I still hope you will enjoy this story. Have fun.
I do not own Legend of Korra or any other character mention here.
Purple lightning cut through the darkened sky. Then came another and another.
That all was observed by young sailor on aboard ship; a ship that was now in middle of huge, terrible storm. Couple of hours passed since they leaved port of South Water Tribe. Sea was so peaceful that moment. But now they were facing this nightmare in middle of nowhere.
Next to him was an old sailor, The Captain of the ship. "Did you ever saw something like this, sir?'' he asked him.
''Never!ִ'' answered the old sea wolf. He was sailing almost two decades but he never in his life witnessed something like this. Not storm like this one.
''What we are going to do?'' The Young Sailor started panicking. He starts thinking about that the ship will going to sink.
Captain was thinking, but nothing good enough crosses his mind. ''We will gonna hope that we will get through this.'' That was only good thing he could say at that moment.
A massive wave hit side of the ship, almost flip it off. The Captain and his underling hold tight to not get overboard.
But they were not only one who were watching this strange storm. A few decks bellow, in a cargo hold, was a young woman who watched everything through window. And she spots something very strange. A body falling from the sky.
Young man, who was in complete unconsciousness, fell into ocean. The power of the fall combined with ice waters wakes him up. When he opens his eyes, he was several meters in underwater already. He does not waste any time and immediately starts swimming up.
Fuck! That was his first thought when he reaches surface. He was trying continue to swim, trying to stay at above the deep. He starts turning around to see if there is some land or ship, but only what he sees is a stormy sea. Then his gaze turns to the sky, where he sees the purple lightnings and complete darkened sky. He quickly realizes what is happening. Teleportation had somehow gone wrong! Did I do wrong calculations?
Massive waves moving with him up and down. Desperate, he was still looking for some land or ship, but the waves cloud his vision and he was starting afraid the worst. Fuck, did I land on some water planet?
He moves his legs faster and faster just stay above, but soon he started feel exhaustion and waves created by the storm did not help either. Keep moving! he ordered to himself in spirit. But eventually he was slowly going down, back to the deep.
He quickly starts losing consciousness again as he was going down into deep of the ocean. Last thing he remembered was a strange feeling that water around him started somehow solidify itself.
The Young Woman was slowly sneaking on the ship, with body of the Young Man on her back, which she rescued from drowning. Luckily the crew was too preoccupied with the storm then they could spot her. Thanks to that she easily gets back to the cargo hold.
Her animal companion, patiently waiting for her, watching her as she was putting down the Young Man on couple of crates. She then come to her. ''Look Naga,'' Young Woman strokes her head, ''who do you think is this?'' Naga only barked as answer to this question.
Woman then starts quickly examine the Man she rescued. He had black hair and goatee with mustache, nothing unusual but his clothes were something strange. He was wearing some kind of brown top cloth with zipper and small hoodie in back. Strange word "Adidas" was on it left side. He also had some kind of blue leather pants and his boots was completely white with that word "Adidas" also on them.
Maybe it is name of his home, she presumed. But there was no the time for further examining, she had to take the water out of his lungs. She takes a deep breath. Korra, you got this! she motived herself.
She extends her hands and start focusing. Soon she started feel the water and with moving of her hands, she slowly moving it up. After few seconds the Young Man starts coughing the water out. She almost jumps up from happiness that she managed to do that.
Young Man opened his eyes, revealing their blue color. He saw that he was no longer in middle of the ocean and felt that he was laying on something hard. Then he saw a woman front of him.
''Hi,'' she said with smile. ''How are you feeling?''
She was shorter than him. She had brown hair with ponytail and with two smaller ones on both sides. Her clothes were blue shirt without sleeves, armbands on both hands, blue pants and some kind of fur skirt around her waist. He could see her muscles on her hands. According to her weathered skin he could guess that she lived in an artic place. She quite resembled an Eskimo to him.
''Are you ok?'' she asked after few seconds.
''Yes, I am,'' he answered and sit down on the crates.
''Good,'' she extends her hand to shake with him, ''my name is Korra. What is yours?''
He started examining the room he was in. It has iron floor and walls with some electronic on them. He saw pile of crates behind Korra and one vintage car. He heard sound of the motor and his sweatshirt and jeans was still wet. That means he was on the ship, in the cargo hold.
"My name is Patrick," he answered, ignoring her extended hand.
Korra lowers her hand and raised an eyebrow. ''Patrick? That is a quite strange name.'' She paused for a moment before she asked him another questions. ''Where are you from? Are you from Fire Nation? From town called 'Adidas'? Or is it some kind of island?''
Patrick did not know what ''Fire Nation'' meant but it gave him a hint that he is in the World with multiple nations. And he cannot tell her that Adidas was just a brand of clothes.
''Or are you from Earth Kingdom?'' Korra gave him another question.
''No, I am not from Fire Nation or Earth Kingdom.'' Patrick was thinking what to say. He cannot tell her the truth. There were some basic rules of traveling through The Multiverses, like not telling locals about Multiverse itself, even though some people did not uphold this rule. ''I am… from very far away.''
Korra was not sure about his answer but she did not want to push him. Patrick read from her body language, that his answer did not satisfy her. But right now, he needs to take a walk.
Patrick comes down to the floor. ''What are you doing?'' Korra asked, a little bit scared because it was just a couple of minutes since she rescued him from drowning.
''I just need a little bit walk,'' he answered and starts slowly moving forward. He made a few steps when suddenly an instant pain hits him on the side of his chest. He growled in pain and quickly put his hand on its source. It was few broken ribs, probably from that how he wrongly teleported, or from the impact.
"Are you ok?" Korra asked worried.
''Yes… it is nothing.'' He tries to stay on his feet. ''When will our stowaway end?''
She was surprised that he knew that they were traveling illegally on the ship. ''How do you know that?''
"This is a cargo hold of the ship. If you were a passenger, we would be in a cabin right now. So, where our journey ends?" He tries ignoring the pain.
''Republic City.''
This helps him to forgot the pain immediately and in disbelief he looks at her. ''Let me guess, it's part of some Republic, right?'' he asked in a sarcastic tone.
"Yes," Korra answered unsured, not noticing his sarcasm.
That is a stupidest name I ever heard, he thought about it. Who could name city like this?
Pain made itself known again and he start struggling to stand on his feet.
''Maybe you should sit back down,'' advices Korra and he obeyed her.
Patrick starts think what to do next. He was stuck in Parallel Universe, which he knew nothing about except a few information. He cannot use his technology right front of her, and even if he could, he had check it if still works after that fall into the ocean. And probably here will be no First Aid Kit, but elsewhere on the ship it could be.
"Can you please find some First Aid?" he asked.
''We would not need a First Aid,'' Korra smirks. She takes the bottle out of her pocket and opens it. Be calm, Korra. Just like Katara show you. She was trying to remember on Katara's teaching how to use Waterbending to heal. But she also remembers how she failed every time. Hopefully this time going to be different.
Patrick did not know what she was planning do with that bottle. Maybe she wanted to give him some kind of painkiller or alcohol. To help him make it to the end of the journey. Then he watched as she, with the move of her left hand, started getting the water out, in the form of a tentacle. He immediately realized that she has power to control water. Also, he gets how she save him from drowning.
Looking at the living water remind him how he met a several persons with similar powers like hers during his travels. Like Hydro-Man or Waterling.
Korra aimed the water tentacle at the side of his chest he was holding. In the moment when water touched his sweatshirt, it started glowing. Patrick did not feel wetness and the pain started to retreat.
"Feeling better?" she asked. Patrick nodded and she continued.
After while he noticed a pattern on her upper armband. "What is meaning?" he asked from boredom.
Korra gave a look at armband. "That is a sign from my tribe. South Water Tribe."
South Water Tribe? So, there is a Northern Water Tribe. And with Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom that almost makes four basic elements. Only what is missing is Air. Patrick was slowly starts putting together in which kind of Universe he ended up.
He then starts felt a strange sniffing behind his neck. He quickly turns his head around and saw a strange large animal. It was a hybrid of Polar Bear and Dog. It's head specifically look like Retriever's. But it was nothing shocking to him, he already saw more strange creatures during his travels.
"Naga, don't interrupted!" Korra scolds her animal companion. She needed to fully concentrate to heal Patrick.
"Naga?" he turns back to her. Animal gave a sad look at Korra.
"Yes. She is mine Polar Bear-Dog. But do not worry, she will not hurt you." She gave a quick look at Naga. "Looks like you make her quite curious about you." It was unusual for her to see Naga be that friendly to a stranger. She never did that before.
She is probably catching lot of information from me in form of smell, Patrick thought. Or she could even smell scent of dog of his, but it was long time since he last saw him.
After couple of minutes Korra thought that he was healed already. "I think it is enough." She gave the water back into to bottle. "Better?"
Patrick touched that place on side of his chest a it seems to him that pain completely vanishes but alas it quickly returns. "No."
"Oh, come on!" Korra said frustrated. She almost had it. "Let me do it again."
"No!" declined Patrick. He did not want to be a Practice Dummy for her. "After we land. We are going found some medical help, from actual professionals."
"But-"
"No but!"
Korra felt in that moment little bit insulted, she only wanted to help, but she realized she was no experienced healer, and Patrick was the one in pain. So, she swallows her pride. "Good." But then she realized she doesn't know anyone in the city, only her appointed Master Tenzin. "We could get some help from my teacher, Tenzin."
"Very well," Patrick lied back on the crates, still holding his side of chest. Tenzin? That sound some kind of guru.
He closed his eyes and tries to rest, but after couple of minutes he could not because he felt her instant look on him. So, he opened his eyes and turn to her, seeing her how she constantly looking at his clothes.
"Can I help you with something?" He found her quite annoying right now.
"I just..." Korra tries come with something to say. "I have never saw this kind of clothes ever."
Patrick closed his eyes again. "So, take a good look. Maybe you never seen them again," he said sarcastically.
"Hey, you don't need to be like this," she responds now quite angry.
"Oh, I am sorry," he said in sassy tone while he opened again his eyes, "but right now I have few broken ribs and I need some rest. So how about you go somewhere else."
Korra clenches her fists in that moment. Inner peace. Inner peace, she kept repeating in her mind in order to calm up. "Come Naga, looks like somebody has a bad day." She then leaves him.
Naga only gives a confused bark and follows her to bunch of crates aside, where she lied down and Korra sit back on her.
You are gonna be fucking kidding me, commented Patrick in his head. He asked himself how the hell he end up in this place. Last thing he remembered was that he was about to teleport from Earth 3004 in Multiverse 400 to Earth 252 in same Multiverse. Just ordinary travel for him.
Nothing seemed unusual in that moment. Portal was looking working fine but when he stepped into that, it starts quickly to collapsed, and he was not quick enough to go back. But now it was pointless to try to figure out what happened. Now he has to heal.
He was trying to rest and despite the pain he did. Then he felt somebody was shaking with him. It was a Korra. He did not hear sound of engine so that meant they arrived into the destination.
"Wake up. We are here."
Patrick immediately gets down off the crates and saw how loading platform of the ship was going down, revealing huge light. It was almost blinding to him.
Korra mounted Naga and turn to him. "Come on or we leave you behind!"
Patrick did not waste any time and despite the pain and broken ribs, he managed climb on Naga. He quickly grabbed Korra around her waist, because something was telling him that he is going to experience a wild ride. He was not wrong.
Naga immediately, in furious speed, run off from the cargo hold. Leaving a clueless sailors behind.
"Thanks for ride!" Korra screamed a farewell to them.
Fuck! Patrick was trying to hold Korra with difficulties in that speed. Bright sun rays still make him blind, but quickly he started to saw a silhouettes of people and buildings. And after few seconds he finally saw a Republic City in its entire beauty.
When Korra stops Naga, he spotted a giant bridge front of them. It reminded him a Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, but here its towers were actual gold. Or it seems. He then looking on people and buildings. It was like he was in Chine in 1920's, judging by their style of clothes and architecture. Next point of interest was an Airships flying above them.
Well, it looks no Hindenburg happened here, Patrick thought about that in his head. Unlike Airships from his World, this one was quite more advanced and had some kind off armor.
"Wow, look at this!" Korra said loudly in amazed voice. "I never saw so many Satomobiles." Pointing out rush hour on the bridge.
Satomobiles? Patrick was looking a bunch of motor vehicles on bridge. In his World the first cars were named Automobiles.
Korra continued with Naga around the bay, she stopped when she saw a giant statue on remote island several kilometers from the city. It was a statue of Aang, her predecessor. The One who ended the Hundred Year War. She could not take her eyes from it. That statue was so magnificent even from such distance.
For Patrick that statue remind a Statue of Liberty in New York City, actually entire Republic City remind him a New York City. But here it was some kind off boy, dressed up in what it looks Tibetan clothes and with arrow on his bald head.
"Who is that?" he asked. But Korra did not answer, she was still looking at it in some sort of trance. "Hey, do you hear me?!" he raised his voice.
"Oh…I am sorry," she finally reacts and realized what was his question. "Wait, you don't know who that is?" She turns to him with disbelief on her face.
"No."
Korra smiled. "You must be from very far away, that you don't know who that is."
You don't say. Patrick could not simply tell her the reason why he did not know that boy, that he was from another Universe. "Don't we need to find your Master Tenzin? I would like to get rid of that pain instead being a tourist."
"Of course." She turns back to the lookout and point on an island next to the statue. "That is an Air Temple Island. Tenzin will be there."
Well, the Air finally make its acquaintance, he thought. Now only they had got on that island. He could simply teleport them but he was not sure if will work at all, because he needs a coordinates, and it would reveal his secret. So, they had to find some kind off ferry.
Korra strokes Naga's head. "Do you have a mood for little swim?"
But Naga instead of barking or some other sound, started sniffing. Korra and Patrick knew what that meant, she was smelling a food. Then Naga started run fast across streets, like a wild beast on the hunt.
"Good! Good! First some food then Air Temple Island!" Korra was trying slow her down and control her, but when Polar Bear-Dog smells something good to eat they were an unstoppable.
The pair was on the opposite direction of coming vehicles. Patrick was trying with all his strength to hold on. "Watch out!" he screamed as they almost get hit by the Satomobil.
"Watch where you going!" screamed one of the drivers in the back.
"I am sorry!" Korra apologized. She was trying to control Naga but no luck what's so ever.
They nearly get hit by another Satomobil but luckily, they dodge it just time, instead it hits another Satombil in the way. Causing the crash.
"Can you be please careful?!" Patrick yelled on Korra.
"I am trying!" she responds. Luckily Naga has move on sidewalk as she was sniffing on the ground. Now their only concern was pedestrians.
"What is meaning of this?" asked one of the pedestrians.
"So sorry, we are new here." Korra apologized again for acting of her animal companion.
Naga finally stops at food stall. She pulls her head through its canvas to see a bunch of food front of her and one angry stall owner.
"Naga, wait!" Korra ordered in frustrated tone of voice. But truth was she was hungry just as Naga and Patrick was probably too. So, she gets off the Polar Bear-Dog and goes to the seller woman.
Korra did not waste any time and grab meat on the stick. "I would like to one piece from everything you have here, "she gives her order as she was hungrily looking at the meat.
"That will be 20 Yuans," said the seller woman.
Yuans? Who could guess that? Same name carried a currency in his World.
Korra face goes pale as she heard the amount. In that moment she realized she had no money with her when she leaved South Water Tribe. She quickly turns to Patrick, sitting on Naga's back. "Do you have any money?"
"Do I look like it?" he responded in cold face.
Korra turns back to the seller woman and put a nervous smile. Seller woman was not smiling at all. "Well-"
Seller woman cut her off by taking the meat on the stick right from her hands. "No money! No food!"
Korra disappointedly leaves the stall and lead the Naga with Patrick away. "Don't worry girl. We are going to find some food."
Luckily the trio found a nearby park, where they found a small pond. Patrick sits down on the grass while Korra pick some sticks and Naga goes directly into the pond to hunt some fish.
"How do you feel?" Korra asked him.
"It goes well, if I am not moving much," he answered looking at Naga hunting.
"Well, if you want, I can still heal you," she offered with smile.
"Thanks, but no," he politely declined. When she was turn back to him, he started checking his battle gauntlets and his devices in his pockets. It seems their working just fine. At least some good news for him.
Naga pulled three fishes out of pond and Korra put them on the sticks. Now she had to roast them.
Patrick watched with curiosity how she creates a small flame with her two fingers. So, she controls Water and Fire? He starts wandered if it's only two elements she had power over it.
After she roasted the fishes, she immediately starts eating one, like a hungry animal. But she reminded herself that she is not only one hungry and turns to Patrick and offered him one of the other roasted fishes.
Patrick looked at freshly roasted fish on the stick. It was not the first time he would eat a quickly cooked local animal. He even ate a three-eyed fish from radioactive lake. He was only hoping this one does not have any poisonous parts.
He takes a bite and it would go quite well if it has more the thermal treatment then a second long flame. "It needs more roasting," he commented.
"What?" she asked puzzled. When she was little, she went with her father fishing, and when they caught something, she always roasted fishes like this and they taste great.
"I said it needs more roasting," he answered. "Maybe medium."
"It seems fine to me." She takes another bite.
"Of course, when you gulp down that," he remarks.
Korra stops eating, she put the fish on the ground and look at him with full of anger. "You know what, from since I saved you, you are nothing but an obnoxious!"
"Oh, I am sorry!" he raised his voice and get up from the ground. "But I have few broken ribs and instead of looking for your Master or some help, we are roasting some fishes!"
Korra gets also up from the ground and come to him. "And I said I could heal you!" She was so fed up of him.
Patrick also had fed up of her. "And you have to understand I do not want end up with no bones at all after another of your trials being a healer! Because you are not good at that!" Korra did not answer on that, only frowned. Both of them then stare each other eyes full of anger. The tension between them could be cut with a knife.
"Can you both please stop with this!" ordered an unknown male voice, breaking a tension.
Both of them, with surprised faces, look at the source of that voice. A nearby bush.
After few second, from that bush came an old man with torn clothes. From his look and smell, Patrick could tell it was a homeless person.
"You both sound like an old married couple! Are you two freshly married or what?"
"NO!" Korra and Patrick said at same time. But that answer did not interested the old man anymore.
Now he was looking at remaining roasted fish. He pointed at it. "Can I have some?" he asked them.
"Well…Of course," answered Korra uncertainly in that moment. She was not expecting that today goes this way. Old man immediately jumps at the fish on the stick and starts consume it on the spot.
"So…you are living in that bush?" she asked him.
"No, Korra, he is living in a hotel," Patrick answered instead of him in sarcastic tone.
Korra frowned at him. But she had to admit that since she arrived into the city, the Republic City itself was not how she imagined it.
"Your husband is right, girl," added the Homeless Man. "I have my own hotel with some friends. We living there very long time."
"We are not married!" she protested but it looks like the Homeless Man was just ignoring it as he continues to talk.
"And this is my summer mansion." He pointed out at the bush beside him. "I came here when sunny day like this. It took me long time before I found this good bush and make it my own. And I have a lot neighbours here."
Korra quickly gets who that old man is. "So…here is more like you? I thought everybody is enjoying in the city." When she was growing up, she heard so amazing stories about Republic City from the mouths of some travelers or her Masters from White Lotus. But it looks they maybe they were exaggerating. She probably should listen Tenzin and stay at South Water Tribe. But how could she be a good Avatar if she cannot do something about this.
"Korra, somebody should taught you something about social classes," said Patrick.
"You should listen to your husband, girl," said the Homeless Man with amusement after he was almost finished with fish. "You have to learn a lot of things, rookie."
For fuck's sake! "For last time, we are not married!" declined Patrick that statement with anger but it looks the Homeless Man ignore it. But soon more serious troubles had to come.
Somebody was starting furiously whistling. The trio look on the other side of the pond and there was a standing man with the uniform and baton in the hand. For Patrick he looked like a Bobby from United Kingdom just with brighter color of the uniform.
"You three! It is an illegal fishing here!" he yelled, whistled again and start running towards them across small bridge connecting both side of the pond.
Old Homeless Man quickly get up from the ground. "You should run!" he advised as he jump back into the bush.
Korra whistles at Naga and she come to them quickly. Korra and Patrick mount her and quickly leaves the crime scene.
"Bobby", due to his weight, starts gasping and stop them pursuing. Behind him the head of The Homeless Man show once more and start wave at the duo. "And I forget to wish you happy honeymoon!"
Korra and Patrick then continue they journey through park, when they get to close to some gathering of people. In front of it stood some man with small figure and long clothes, and yell something through megaphone to the crowd.
"ARE YOU TIRED OF TYRANNY OF BENDERS? JOIN US! FOR FAR TOO LONG THE ELITE OF THE BENDERS ACT TO US LIKE THE SECOND CLASS CITIZEN! JOIN TO THE AMON AND TOGETHER WE WILL OVERTHROW THEM!"
Korra stopped the Naga right front of it. "What are you saying? Being Bender is great."
Patrick did not pay the attention to that. He was focused at big poster behind the Man with Megaphone. On it was depicted a man with white mask with red circle on top. That masked man reminded him a someone he knew, also with the mask, but whose he never wished to intercourse again or fight with him. Anacronicus. Just thought of that name causes a fear in him as should any other living being in existence.
"Oh, let me guess…you are a Bender," said the Man with amused tone.
"Yes, I am!" proclaimed Korra proudly.
"And as a Bender, you would wash me off the stage, right?" continued the Man discussion battle.
Korra had enough of him and his slimy smile. "I am thinking about it!"
When Patrick heard that, he decided to step in. "You know, Korra. You are quite losing this discussion," he said to her. Korra looked at him with surprised look.
"See!" yelled the Man at gathered people. "This is what is wrong in our city. Benders like this girl are abusing their power to oppress us!" And group of people immediately join him and starts booed at Korra.
Korra did not know what to say in that moment but she did not want to give up. So, she said what crosses her mind, which later showed up to be stupid. "What? I do not oppress anyone…You oppress yourself!"
"Really, Korra?" Patrick questioned her choice of words. Korra realized what was she said right now.
Man then notice him and like he was holding side his side of chest. He gets down from table he was using as stage. "And what about you? Are you not oppressed by her?"
"I did nothing to him!" Korra defended herself.
You have to be fucking kidding me! Patrick turns to the Man. From his face he could say that he was drunk up with the power of upper hand over Korra. How about a I sent you to the Apokalypse, to the throne of Darkseid himself? Let's what how he would react to your words about oppression. "Get lost!" he said with murderous look.
"So, we have here a Bender lover!" yelled the Man through megaphone and encourage the crowd.
"I think we should go," Korra said. She understanded this is a lost cause.
"Finally, a something we could both agree on," he said and they both continued their journey.
It was almost an hour since they wandered the streets of the Republic City. Now it looks like they get into the Commercial part of the city.
"I think we lost," Korra said.
"Oh really? I did not notice it at all," Patrick said sarcastically.
Korra sighed with frustrated tone. She still hoped they would understand each other in future but he makes it very hard for her. "I go ask for directions."
She stopped at some couple of shopkeepers, playing some board game. "Sorry for interrupting but we lost. Do you know the way to the Air Temple Island?"
"Oh yes…" responds the Old Woman and starts pointing out, "you should go to this street-" She was interrupted by arriving vehicle in aggressive red color. "You should get moving. It is not safe here." Fear was in her face as she quickly got up. Same did her partner. They both hide behind the wall of the shop.
This day is getting better and better. Patrick sensed that some new troubles is coming. He was still holding his chest to ease that pain, but he could not do that all day.
Three men get off the vehicle. One huge with green clothes, one middle with grey clothes and hat, and one small with black clothes and scar on his face. The man with hat approach to the old man, who was cleaning something that was looking like a gramophone right front of the store. It was obvious that he was leader of this trio.
"Mr. Chang, please tell me you have the money," he said and the old man nearly jump off as he heard his voice. "Or I cannot ensure the safety of your shop." The small men at his side created a flame from his palm.
Mr. Cheng was so scared at the moment. "I am sorry but the business is not going well." He grabs the gramophone which cleaned and offered to them. "Please take this as payment."
Great, a racketeering, Patrick thought as he was watching that. He then notices how Korra get off the Naga. "What are you doing?" he asked, but he already knew the answer.
"Wait here, I am going to deal with it," she replied and continued.
"Is she stupid?" asked him an Old Woman.
"She is," Patrick quickly answered and started analyzing the upcoming situation and secretly prepared his weapons.
The small gangster destroys the offered gramophone with a flame kick. Cheng fell on the ground and starts shaking.
"My friend here is no music lover," said the leader with smile. "So gave me my money or-"
"Or what thug!" Korra interrupted him and trio quickly turn to her.
Great! She is doing a Superhero pose, Patrick commented her posture, where she had hands on her waist. Like he did not have enough of this on his Earth.
The trio look at each other puzzled and then they had a deep laugh at her. "Since you are obviously fresh of the boat, let me explain a couple things. You are in Triple Threat Triad territory, and we are about to put you in hospital," said the leader as attempt to intimidate her.
What? Triple Thread Triad? Patrick did everything in his power to hold the laughter. That was truly stupidest name for gang he ever heard. I must tell Sawblade next I see him that his gang – The Saws-just lose the first prize of the stupidest named gang.
The threat of the leader leaved Korra cold. "You are gonna need the hospital." She cracks her knuckles, prepared for fight. According to the Masters from White Lotus she was not good at spiritual side but the fighting was something else. "So, hope it is a nearby."
Now the leader of the trio was angry. "Who do you think you are?"
"You'll see," Korra replied with smile.
The leader throwed a water at her like some projectile from his coat. But Korra deflected it and throw back at him, freezing his face in process. His two henchmen was just looking how they boss helplessly moving around with frozen face. Until he stumbles to Korra and she kicked him, knocking him down and shattering the ice on his head.
Good start, Patrick thought. One was down and two more to go.
The huge gangster charged at her, but before he could do anything she stamp on the ground. The large block of the street catapulted the gangster into the air.
"She is Avatar!" screamed woman in amazement as she was watching gangster flying with her collogue.
Patrick turns to them puzzled. Avatar? Avatar of what? From his travels he knew a couple of Avatars like Avatar of Life and Death. His own universe had Avatar of Destruction – Anacronicus. He turns to back to watch rest of the fight. So, I end up with some local Superheroine? Just my fucking luck.
The flying gangster land on the ground, hitting some advertising board in process. The last gangster, now in anger and desperation, set a fire a stream at Korra. But she went through it like it was a water. She grabbed his wrists and throw him through a window of the shop that him and his friends were initially trying racketeer.
"So do you now know who I am?" Korra asked with triumphant on her face and turn back to Patrick and Naga and goes to them. "See? I get them good, didn't I?" She asked with happiness.
"Yes," he answered un amusemented. He then noticed that smaller gangster stumbles from the window, trying to recover sense. Gangster eyes gaze upon a leaving Korra and Patrick knew he was about to attack her from behind. He could let her get hit but he owed her his life and there was no time to warn her. There was only one option left.
As Korra was going to them, she noticed how some kind of metallic gauntlets appear on Patrick hands. Like in the second before he does not have them. He extends his hand to her and shoot some lightning at behind her. She quickly turns around and see the gangster wiggle of the shock and fell down on the ground. Korra turns back to Patrick and those of gauntlet of his was gone.
"What was that?" she asked a little bit scared and pointed on the gangster behind her. "What did you do to him?"
"Don't worry he is fine," he explained it, like he was doing that regular, "he just gets a little bit a shock. In few minutes he's gonna walk it off."
But that was not enough to satisfy Korra. "And what kind of gauntlets was you wearing?! And where they go?!" She started have a feeling that the man she saved is something more then it appears to be.
Patrick sighted over her questions. I shouldn't have to done that. He looked at the elderly woman and the other shopkeeper and see how scared they looked at him. I should take the Neuralyzer with me. He then looked back at Korra. "And how about we talk about your fighting strategy."
"What? What do you mean?" Korra felt touched. As she can tell this was flawless victory and she did not wanted to change the subject. "It was great."
"It was good," he corrected her. "But you did head straight into it, without thinking. You quickly turn back to that guy without checking if he is down. And you destroy part of the public property more then them." He pointed out on ripped part of the street and destroyed window of the shop.
"Well…But I succeeded."
"You did but next time you could not have so much luck."
Suddenly an airship flied above them with police horn. "This is the Police! Stay where you are!" ordered a male voice from speaker.
Side of the airship and couple of men dressed in metallic uniforms starts jumping down. In midair they shoot couple of cables from their bracers, whose attach to the nearby buildings to slow down they fall.
"Metalbenders!" Korra commented their arrival.
Magneto would be happy, Patrick thought about their names.
Soon as the Metalbenders land on the street, the shooted cables quickly goes back into their bracers. The one who look like a commanding officer started to investigated the crime scene.
"Arrest them!" he ordered. His men shoot those cables at still unconsciousness gangsters to handcuffed them. Then he goes straight up to the duo. His look on his face tells Patrick that this encounter will not end up well.
"We catch you some criminals," said Korra to him, like she was expecting some kind of reward for that.
"I'll see," said the Commander. "And we are gonna arrest you too."
Korra looked him shocked. "Why? They are the criminals who destroy things!"
"But you destroy it more."
"Told you," Patrick said to her.
The Commander turns his gaze on him and gave him suspicious look. Patrick's concerns come true. "You are going under lock too."
"I did nothing. I was not even part of that fight."
"He is lying officer!" screamed the elderly woman and point at him. "He used his bending too!"
Every good deed must be punished, Patrick thought.
The Commander shoots his cables at Korra. But she quickly grabs them. "Hold just for second! We can explain this!" she was trying to reason with him.
"You can explain at the station!" Commander said. And shoot another cables at her. Korra tried to dodge them.
Patrick tried to hold tightly Naga, when instinctively tried protect Korra by the smashing the Commander to the ground. Soon as other Metalbenders saw that, they came to aid the Commander.
Korra quickly mounted the Naga and trio started run off the Metalbenders.
Great! Just fucking great! Nice one Patrick! In one day, you almost get drown, have some beef with local mob and now local law forces are into you! Just fucking great! Patrick was holding with all his strength, due to his condition, during the chase with the police through the streets.
Metalbenders, thanks to their cables, starts chasing them on the roofs of the buildings same as the ground. Naga run through the small bridge above water as one of the Metalbenders jump of the roof and shoot his cables, catching Korra's ponytail. Patrick quickly active a small laser on his gauntlets and cut cables off and Korra raise the water up, making the ice wall. Metalbender hit the wall and fell on the ground.
The chase continued and trio run it into railroad station and soon get on the roof of the train. Korra and Patrick notices two Metalbenders on their left, riding through cables of the buildings. Soon their police horn of the coming airship.
"We have to keep moving!" Patrick ordered. Korra nodded and make Naga to ride forward. In great speed they run across the roof the train and jump on of the small buildings. But it was for nothing. Shooted cables handcuffed them. Now they are going be transported to the station.
Patrick sat down in metallic room. With handcuffed on he started observe the room and noticed the one-sided window on the side of the wall. This bringing some memories. Soon the doors of the room opens and woman in black metallic uniform step in.
She had a grey hair, green eyes and scar on her face. Patrick noticed nameplate on her uniform that says Beifong. Patrick remembered that when they take them into the headquarters there was a metal statue of woman in exterior of the building. Korra said outload that was a Toph Beifong. This one not looks like her. That mean two things: She had a same last name or they were related.
Beifong looked at the almost empty filed that only contained photos of his taken a few minutes ago. "What do we have here?" She then gazed her sight upon him. "You have quite a strange name ''Patrick''."
As she come closer, he noticed her badges of rank on her shoulders. It looks like she was very high-ranking officer.
"Stranger is that there is no record of you in any nation." She slams the file on the table. "So, who are you?!" she yelled.
We are starting with classic, Patrick thought about her interrogation method. He chooses to keep the silent.
"You know what is going happen next? You and that girl will have some serious trouble for destroying public property." Patrick was still not saying anything. "So silent type, huh? That is quite new. Unlike your girlfriend ''Avatar'' which she said to me that she had to intervene instead of calling the police." The way she said word ''Avatar'' sounded like she had some kind of grudge.
"If you did your job correctly, she didn't not had to intervene," Patrick finally speak. "So how about we go over it and you could make your mommy proud."
Beifong almost drop a jaw after hearing this. Over her career she had deal with various persons, but none someone like this yet. Especially when he knew some information about her. "How...How did you?"
"Your nameplate gave me first information," he point at the object. "Being a cop is a most common thing that runs in families. And your pose as hard ass says that she didn't gave you an enough love. So, you work your way up through the ranks to prove yourself to her. But I guess it did not work out." He then looked at her scar closely. "And I bet that scar of yours has an interesting story."
Beifong slam on the table, which break his concentration. "ENOUGH!" she yelled with fury and quickly starts to calm herself up. "So, we have here a smartie. I am wondering if you keep that when I sent you to the pre-trial detention cell."
"And you should know that I can get out here anytime I want," Patrick said quietly, like a silent threat.
"Oh really?" she skeptically asked. Then into interrogation room enters one of the Matelbenders. "What is it?" she asked him, did not even turn around. She did not want a lose sight on Patrick.
"Councilman Tenzin is here. To talk with you ma'am," Metalbender answered.
Tenzin? That is a Korra's Master, Patrick thought.
Beifong gave a frustrated sigh. "Tell him I am going." Metalbender saluted and leaves. "We are not done yet." She turns back and leaves the room.
Golden Jim Gordon or Sean Renard. Looks like he made another enemy today. After few minutes, The Metalbender who leaved returns to the room, comes to him and take off his handcuff.
"You can go," he said. "All charges are gone."
"Really?" Patrick wandered.
"Yes."
It looks like Tenzin pull some strings. Patrick rose up but again the pain of the broken ribs hits him. Patrick had to grab edge of the table to hold on his feet.
"You good?" asked Metalbender with care.
"Yes, I just need to see a doctor." Patrick leaves the room.
The Police Headquarters was full people. Some goes to report crime or full some forms or some of them was arrested. Among that complete chaos and bunch of people was someone who stand off the crowd. He was tall with bold head with blue arrow tattooed and long goatee and beard. His clothes were very close to the Buddhist Monks as style as colors.
I guess this is Master Tenzin. Well, I was not wrong with that guru thing. Patrick comes to him.
Tenzin looked quite surprised when he saw him. "You are the man whose travel with Korra?"
"What gave me away?" Patrick asked sarcastic, still holding his chest.
"Few things," Tenzin answered with tired tone. It was seen that he also had a long day. "I heard you were injured. Don't you need a medical assistance?"
Patrick just wave off. "I can wait." He starts looking around. "So where is our little princess?"
Tenzin little bit off smile. Looks like they both will see eye to eye. "She is going be here soon. Lin... Chief Beifong will bring her."
Lin? It looks like they knew each other than professionally. Patrick sits down on nearby bench just to ease the pain.
Soon they saw Korra approach to them, escorted by Beifong herself.
"Here she is," Beifong said. "I hope you send her soon back home as we talk about it."
"What?" Korra asked confused. "I just go into the city!" But it looks like Tenzin and Beifong completely ignored her.
"You have my word. I will send her back tonight." Tenzin then turns to Korra. "Outside is one of the Acolytes who will escort you to the Air Temple Island. And meantime I will take your friend to the healer."
"But Tenzin I had to do something! City is in terrible shape," Korra tried to protest.
"I will not hear about this. You disobeyed my and White Lotus order."
"Katara said to me that Republic City is my destiny," Korra keeps on protesting.
"Don't drag my mother into this!" Tenzin face was for one second completely red. Patrick noticed how Chief Beifong shake her head with smirk. "Go pick up your Polar Bear-Dog and do what I said!" he ordered.
Korra, completely defeated, went into section of the Headquarters, where was kept animals.
Tenzin then turns to Patrick. "Let's go." Patrick gets up.
"Tenzin, can we have a little chat," Chief Beifong said before they leave.
"I'll wait outside," Patrick said and kept going.
Tenzin probably knew what Beifong wanted to talk about. Then he turns back to her. "Yes, Lin?"
"I hope you will not get a softie at the end and take them both home."
Tenzin sights. "I know you don't like Korra for being an Avatar due to your history with your-"
"Don't finish that sentence!" Beifong cut him off with threating pose.
"But in his case," Tenzin point on leaving Patrick. "I think you are a pessimistic."
"It's called a caution, Tenzin. And it saves me life a lot of time." She watchfully looked at Patrick. "And I have a very bad feeling about him."
Like always, Tenzin thought. "It was good to see you again." He bowed and turn to leave a building.
Chief Beifong sighs. Like always.
When Patrick steps out of the building he saw a strange creature standing right front of him. It quite resembled a bison but it was bigger, have a brown arrow on his head, six legs and huge flat tail. With that animal there was man dressed in same clothes as Tenzin. That had to be that Acolyte, he mentions earlier.
Animal gave a huge, deep sound as it saw him approach them.
Acolyte turn to him and bow to him. "Hello. You must be that man whose Master Tenzin take to the healer."
"Yes, that is right." Patrick gave an untrusty look at animal. Something tells him that this animal will be flying. And he was little bit scared of heights.
"Do not worry. The Flying Bisons are quite good and safe flyers," ensure him Acolyte, probably sensed his problems.
"Good to hear that," Patrick said sarcastically.
Tenzin soon join them both. "Avatar is inside to pick up her animal companion. Make sure she gets into the temple."
"What if she refuses to go with me?" Acolyte asked nervously.
"Then make her," Tenzin answered. He knew that Korra was stubborn but she will listen this time. When Acolyte goes into building, he turns to Patrick. "Need help?"
"I think I can manage that." With small difficulties Patrick mounts the Flying Bison. Tenzin gets front of him, takes reins and Bison flew up.
Sun was setting up slowly as Flying Bison was moving in air above the city. The visit of the healer took a few minutes. As he said Korra did most of the job, he only finished it. Tenzin was now taking Patrick to the Air Temple Island. Between them was quite silence until the Air Nomad break it.
"Patrick, that is a very strange name. Where are you from?"
"Very far away from here," Patrick answered as the cold air was hitting his face.
"That is quite answer," Tenzin commented this poor choice of words. Patrick knew that, so he had to change the subject.
"So, why you cannot train Korra here? I think due to the she makes such a journey to get here I think it would contra productive sent her back. She would lose so much time."
Tenzin sighs, Patrick was right. "I would but… there is a something I as the member of the Council has to take care of."
Patrick knew what or who he was talking about. "Amon, am I right?" Tenzin turn to him with surprised look. "We met one of his gatherings in the park, but I guess him and his men not only protest, right?" Tenzin turn back to control Bison and even without word Patrick's question was answered. It was yes.
"Looks like a you know a way around about this."
"Let's say a I have a quite experiences with this type of people," Patrick said and remembers his meeting with someone with similar thinking like Amon. Stryker and his Purifiers. "And bunch of Benders as criminals is not a good PR."
"PR?" Tenzin asked confused.
"Public Relations."
"Hmmm…Tarrlok mention something like this earlier," Tenzin nodded. "And the Republic City itself is not good at it either. What do you think I should do?"
Patrick was surprised by this question. "Why do you asking me?"
"My father once told me that answers for our questions can came from at least expected sources." Tenzin gave a quick look on the giant statue. "And it seems you have some experiences with this type of things. So, what do you think I should do?"
"I think you should train her here. And if she has to one day had to become "The Avatar", she had not to bury her head in sand. Plus, she proved quite resolve to get here, don't you agree?"
"I agree. I was trying to make the city just how my father dreamed about but its legacy is Korra." Patrick did not get what meant that part the Korra is his father legacy. "But now you should hold on. We are going to land."
Patrick listened him and hold the fur of the Bison as the animal was starting to descend.
Under them was courtyard of the Temple with three little kids playing. As soon as the Bison land they immediately surround it.
"Is that Korra?!" screamed one of the children with girl's voice.
"No," answered the more mature one. "Who is that, dad?"
Patrick and Tenzin get off the Bison. "Children, this is a Patrick. He traveled with Korra. Patrick this Jinora, Ikki and Meelo."
Front of Patrick stood two girls and one boy. The girls had a brown hair but the boy had shaved head and very thick eyebrows. They were look at him and studying like he was a new attraction to them.
"What he is wearing?" whispered the younger girl with bangs to the older one beside her.
"I don't know maybe it's a new fashion from Fire Nation," whispered the older one back.
"Finally, there is another guy here!" screamed the boy with enthusiasms.
The elder girl turns to him. "Excuse me but this declaration of yours has no meaning, because here on the Island there is also male Acolytes not just a women." Boy stick out tongue at her which quite angers her. "Dad!"
"Meelo, do not stick out tongue at your sister!" Tenzin rebuke him. "How about you show Patrick his room?"
"I could take him there," said the elder girl with raised hand immediately. Tenzin was surprised by her.
"Jinora, you know it's in Male's Dormitory."
"I am going been there only five minutes. It won't hurt anyone," Jinora said and cast a sad look. "Please."
"Fine," Tenzin agreed. In the end he could trust his eldest daughter with anything unlike her younger siblings, whose now lash a wave of air around them and each other.
Patrick was glad they did not ask him anything, he was no mood to answer questions to bunch hyperactive kids. So, he followed Jinora inside the Temple to his temporary room.
As they both walked through the long hallway, made of wooden floors, Patrick noticed at Jinora something weird. She was blushing.
"Are you ok?" he asked her.
Jinora in a panic turns to him. "Yes…Yes, I am well!" she responds in nervous way.
Patrick had an idea what is going on. He saw that often on his older sister when he was little. Looks like she have a crush on me. Just great.
"So…where are you from?"
"Very far away," he said the same answer a third time today. I have to find a better excuse next time.
"Far away then Fire Islands?" Jinora was trying to get more information.
"Much farther."
Jinora was confused. "But there is no Islands farther from Fire Nation according to the maps I read. But they are really old so maybe there was new Islands discovered during that," she was thinking loudly but Patrick did not pay any attention to that.
"And what Adidas mean?" Jinora point at his sweatshirt. "It is name of place where are you coming from or some regiment?"
Actually, it is an abbreviation of the name Adolf Dassler, founder of this brand. Patrick did not want answer this question, he was tired from all day and he had to make some explanation for next time, better than he using now. "I am sorry Jinora, but I need some rest. It's been a long day."
Jinora nodded in understand. "Well, tomorrow is also day." They both continued to walk until Jinora stop. "Here we are." She opens the sliding door. "Are you not hungry or something else?"
"No, I am good for today," Patrick rejects her offer.
"Very well, see you in the morning." Jinora leaves.
Patrick step inside. It was quite a big room for one person, but it was because of one bed on one side and bunk beds on the other. Walls had a depressive grey color and except the one chair, one table, one lamp, one closet and one window in tetrahedron shape it was almost completely empty.
Just like a true monks. Living in small. Patrick closes the sliding door behind him. Then he rolls up his sleeve on left hand, revealing a thin bracelet. He aims it on the door and press the button on its display. A weak blue light come out it, change it into grille and goes into the door and expends into entire room.
"Security Level 1," Patrick said and turn to the table. It was his hologram security system which could protect entire room of any size. Depending on Level of security it could knock down anyone who got near with no verification based on DNA or it could disintegrate that person into atoms.
Patrick takes off his bracelet, the advanced quantum computer, and put it on the table. He sits on the chair. "Medical analyzation."
Blue light starts piercing through his body. He rubs his eyes of tiredness; he knew what is will be result of this analyzation.
"Found anomaly in region of the brain," announces a woman voice, the basic AI in the bracelet. "A McCain's tumor or also Deweet's tumor. It mostly occurs in these Universes…" It starts enumerate a list of Parallel Universes where this specifically tumor appears, sadly not of them has cure for it.
"I want know it's current state," Patrick cut it off, he was in no good mood for that.
"Currently, the tumor it is in stable state but it will grow and become a lethal," responds the AI.
"How much time I have?"
"Three-Four years."
Minus a month. Patrick heard this diagnose a month ago. He was just curious if something changed. It not surprised him that it did not. Clock was still ticking.
"Show me my location."
The blue light from bracelet formed a hologram map front of him. Patrick could not believe his eyes what he sees.
Current map he was looking at was made by Tribunal, the most powerful intermultiversal organization. All know Multiverses has been divided into group of Earths, which they contained with identification numbers and warnings. But that was not where the AI was pointing at. There was a group of Multiverses, complete in black. They were called a Black Zone - Parallel Universes that was not yet charted by Tribunal. And he was in one of them.
"Try map made by Citadel," Patrick ordered. He wanted to be sure of what he sees.
AI show a different map but the same result. You have to be fucking kidding me. Not even that fucking drunkard was here or his versions.
Patrick start thinking. This was a quite opportunity. Due to his state, this Earth could be his final resting place, far away from all the problems and his enemies he made so far across his travels and on his original Universe. But the only problem was a possibility of spies working for Tribunal, Anacronicus or The Order of Asan. He had to stay low and off the radar. His today confrontation with local criminals and law enforcements could make it difficult, but it was nothing he could not handle it.
Patrick stretches out, it was time for rest. He takes the bracelet back and goes straight into bed. It did not take a long before he falls to sleep, unknow for him what a rough night he is going to get.
Korra stood with Naga at the port of the Island, looking at the city. She gave a final goodbye to city in a spirit. The horn of docked ship reminds her that is the time for leaving. She slowly turns around see Tenzin coming from the other side. Then she sees a trio of young Airbenders flying on their Gliders to her.
After they landed, they hug her. "Korra!" their screamed simultaneously. Seeing them again bring her smile again.
"Will you stay with us on the Island?" asked Ikki.
Korra kneels down, to get on level of their eyes. "No, Ikki. I cannot stay. I have to go back home," she said with great sadness.
"Actually, I was start thinking," Tenzin approach them. "City is not a great shape since my Father died and I did everything to make it better. But you are his legacy. So, you can stay and learn the Airbending. Republic City need a new Avatar."
On Korra face appear a great smile after hearing this news. "Really?!" she asked happily. "That is a great! Thank you, Tenzin!"
"You should also thank that young boy. What his is name? Patrick. He persuaded me."
"I will, don't worry!" Korra pick Tenzin up and hugged him in midair. The children join them in happiness.
Tenzin gave a frustrated sigh. This is going to be a disaster.
In the morning of next day, Korra stood at the City Hall. Front of her was a huge amount of people. Most of them was journalists, ready for to interview her. She took a deep breath. This is going to be a distaster. "Hello," she said through the microphones. The flashes of the cameras immediately starts shooting at her. "I am Korra…" She trying to come what to say next. "Your New Avatar."
"Are you going live in Republic City?" asked one of the journalists in crowd.
"Did you wanted to send some kind of massage to the Triads yesterday?" asked another one.
"Are you going to fight Amon and his Equalists?"
"Who was the young man who was with you? According to the witness he had some strange abilities."
Korra just nervously smiled on all this questions. I should think this through. "Well, yes, I am gonna stay here in the city and… I have to admit I do not have any plan. And I am still learning but I know that Avatar Aang wanted this city be a center of Peace and Balance of the World. And I strongly believe that we can achieve his dream." She quickly builds confidence. "I can't wait to help you all. I am so happy to be here! Thank you, Republic City!"
In dark room, in secluded place, group of masked men listened Korra's speech through radio. One of them then turn it off and turn to their leader, who were watching the map of the entire know world.
"Amon, what is our next move?" he asked.
Just like my Mentor told me. Arriving of the Avatar will be signal for us to start, the leader of Equalists was thinking as he turns to his soldiers. "Wecan begin." The Revolution of Non-benders is coming.
