A/N: The first day and my first entry for this year's Sokkla Saturdays. Hope you enjoy my stories!
Walking through streets and places side by side became familiar. Habitual even. Every afternoon when the sun started to set slowly they would take a walk. Wherever they were didn't matter. Today, they were strolling over the green palace gardens in the capital city of the fire nation.
"And that's one of the things I wished would have happened in history. If I could turn back time, I would let all dragon babies slip out of their eggs and let them live among us." Azula explained.
"Woah, I don't want to imagine how intimidating you'd be with a dragon. I mean, as sad as it is that they weren't given a chance to live, I should still be thankful to your forefathers: They spared me from trouble." Sokka said playfully.
Frowning, Azula abruptly came to a halt.
"See, this is what I'm talking abo...ouch!" Sokka couldn't finish his words, holding his arm where Azula gave him a punch.
"Serves you right." she said smirking and continued walking.
As honest as Sokka was all the time, they both knew he was joking around right now.
"If I could change something in the past, I would see that I met you the day you were born." he said, following her.
Azula gave him a part judgmental, part surprised look.
"This way we would have met much earlier and my time without knowing you wouldn't be a waste." he told smiling.
Azula tried to hold back a blush and acted as if what he said didn't affect her.
Never-ending conversations were fault that their planned short walks went into the dark night, which was bright enough for them, because they cherished each other's company.
The next day, they met in Azula's room. Sokka once suggested to make a list of all places they visited and took their famous walks as "just friends".
They already marked the map laying on the big table in Azula's study room: Ba Sing Se, Fire Fountain City, Omashu, Shu Jing and more.
Sokka sat close, his side pressed to Azula on the chair next to her, while she wrote down the places with dates.
She gave him a short look due his closeness. Despite being used to it, she wondered if today he was even closer than ever. It just felt much closer right now. Or she just felt more aware of it. Looking back at the paper and ignoring his strong arm behind her resting on the chair, was probably a good thing for now.
"I loved how you were amazed by the stars in my tribe." Sokka told her.
"Your tribe" she said coughing.
"What was that?" he asked.
"Nothing. Just didn't know the tribe belonged to you." she said smirking.
"You're trying to change the subject, because you are too proud to admit that it was the best thing you ever saw in your life." he said smirking back.
"Did you forget how you almost cried when you saw the sunset in ember island?" she replied.
"Haha very funny princess."
Azula smiled and wrote that date as well. It was the first time they watched the sunset together.
Silence filled the room suddenly. She wanted to say something but a familiar tension that seemed a thousand times stronger right now was dancing in the air.
She raised her head to look at him and froze. Sokka seemed to be looking at her instead of the paper all the time. He was even closer now. All she could see were his intense blue eyes piercing into her amber one's.
The intensity of loving and longing look in them caught her off guard. He was admiring her with his eyes. Trying to tell her things and stories. That he wanted her and anything else would be good.
Azula felt heat everywhere. Sokka wasn't in a better place emotionally, but he kept his strong composure. He loved every detail on her. Her movements, every single curve on her face and the faint blush on her cheeks he wanted to kiss. But her eyes where the place he wanted to stay forever.
"Have I ever told you how deep and beautiful your eyes are"? he asked her, his look still firmly locked in her's.
He raised his hand until his fingertips touched her left cheek. His thumb caressed her skin tenderly.
The world could have crumbled down just then... they could've not realized it. Even if they could have, they wouldn't care. The only thing that mattered in that moment was to stay close like this. To look into the piercing blue and the intense amber...
