It is said that an invisible red thread will connect those who are destined to meet, regardless of time, space or any other circumstance. This thread may tangle, knot and stretch, but it will never break. It will act as a magnet for those who are destined to join. Time after time, endlessly.

Such was the fate of a pair of soulmates destined to be linked forever:

Luffy; the young delinquent, the thirty-year-old single-parent firefighter, the retired and wounded war soldier, or the mythical Sun God, doomed to reincarnate until the end of time; and Nami, the Lolita of all the Humbert Humberts in town, the kindergarten teacher, the rehabilitation nurse or the tragic Moon Deity, condemned to be eternally reborn, forced to exist apart from the one she so dearly loves.

This is the story of these soulmates predestined for each other and, like any story worthy to be told, we may share this adventure with our preferred snacks and beverages in our favourite corner of the world. I'll be sure to bring the best of my finest voices just for you, as long as you keep your eyes focused on me.

It all began in the spring of ages, in this time and space of the multiverse, Luffy and Nami met and grew up in the same orphanage. They both had a hard time trying to get adopted at the East Blue House for Lost Children, and they were growing weary of the house they pained to call home.

After all, they weren't children anymore, Luffy was sixteen and Nami was only a year older, they were teenagers. One thing remained true, however: they were still lost.

Nami wandered the streets, mostly at night, as if she owned them; swaying her hips to the music playing in her head, drinking straight from a bottle that some "kind", disgusting, stranger had bought her as a favour, between puffs of her joint.

Halfway through, with the empty bottle, she approached some guys chatting outside a club. Her dark dress, far too short, outlined the shape of her body. Large breasts, tiny waist, wide hips, long legs and the face of an angel in disguise.

Between seductive hand dances and kisses near dangerous places, Lolita again got what she wanted. Another bottle, another joint and the caresses and kisses of a guy on her hot body in a dark and damp alley. Something that didn't last long as a dark shadow approached the guy and punched him knocking him out on the pavement. Nami straightened her dress after a huff.

"No one called you, Robin Hood", the words slurred out of her obviously intoxicated mouth. The figure, just a few centimetres taller approached her, picking up her joint and bringing it to his mouth, taking a puff.

"I was jealous" She laughed, high and intoxicated and ran her hand down his neck, moving closer to his face "You know you're my favourite" She smiled and he stepped back "Not like that Nami... You're drunk... and loaded" She laughed confirming what he had said and pressed her body against his "My guardian angel..." She caressed his cheek and before she could kiss him, he placed his hand over her lips, dropping his forehead to hers "Not like that" he whispered as she fell asleep in his arms and carried her bridal style into their home, entering through the back door so they wouldn't be noticed.

He plopped her down on her bed and she woke with a start. He shushed her "Luffy?" He nodded and her eyes glistened in the moonlight with the onset of tears bathing her face "I'm sorry" She whispered and he slumped to her side as she hugged him seeking comfort "I love you" She breathed into his neck hugging him "I love you too" He murmured ruffling her hair returning the embrace.

They slept together, like they did every other night, as Nami's tears dried on Luffy's neck. Dadan stopped yelling at them when one night she surprised them crying together in an embrace. They were the eldest in the orphanage. It wasn't easy to feel unloved, she figured.

The next morning, Nami punched Luffy out of her room to take a shower. He didn't mind. It just meant she was feeling better. As he went to his room two boys were waiting for him with smug faces.

"Hermano!" Started the one closest to the door, with freckles all over his face. Luffy jumped up in surprise and hugged him with a huge grin.

"Ace!" They hugged and the other just scoffed to be noticed.

"Sabo!" Luffy ran over to the other throwing his arms around him laughing with glee.

"Don't "Ace" and "Sabo" us!", Ace interjected replacing his grin with his first smug face, "Where were you? You weren't here...in your room", Sabo nodded agreeing with his brother. Luffy darkened.

"I wasn't doing anything!", He said holding up his hands as if he wasn't guilty of any crime; but as if the universe was against him a knock on his door startled the three brothers and Nami's head appeared.

"Luffy, you left your jacket", She handed it to him and then walked over to kiss his cheek

"Thanks for tonight", She said shyly with a blush and then redirected her eyes to Ace and Sabo.

"Oh! Ace! Sabo!" She still had the towel around her body from the shower but she hugged both brothers

"Good to see you guys! See ya later!" She gave Luffy another kiss on the cheek and a wink before walking out and closing the door.

Both brothers looked at Luffy as he started to turn increasingly redder and redder.

"Youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu-" Sabo began "-You're a man! LET'S CELEBRATE!" shouted Ace.

"I'm not!" Luffy shouted out really embarrassed "Nothing happened between me and Nami!"

Ace and Sabo looked between each other and then at Luffy "Then what was that?" Sabo asked smugly.

"I don't know", Luffy replied shaking flustered.

Sabo and Ace exchanged a knowing smile "Don't worry, your brothers came to visit and they're here now to help you".

Luffy shook his head "No way! I don't need your help! Let's do what we always do!" he started to undress to take a shower as well.

"Are you sure?" said sabo "Redheads are always the hardest to fight" he said knowingly as Ace hummed nodding.

"You two are a pain in the ass" Luffy walked into the bathroom butt naked.

"What happened to "Ace" and "Sabo"!?" Ace mimicked him getting a growl and the sound of running shower water in response.

Ace, Sabo and Luffy were known as "The Three Brothers". The troublemakers in town. The delinquents. But also as a kind of Robin Hoods who stole from bad people to give to the helpless.

At least that's what Nami called Luffy. She always called him "Robin Hood". She knew he didn't like it. He was no hero, he always said. But to her he was.

As she ate her breakfast, she watched the three brothers come down the stairs.

"Good luck against crime Robin Hood!" She said and Luffy snarled "Don't get in trouble again Lolita" He shot back with a glance deep into her eyes and she knew.

Lolita. That's what he called her. Just as the Humbert Humberts of the city saw her. An underage girl who tempted them. "You're asking for it with the clothes you're wearing", they told her.

It all had begun long before she turned thirteen when Luffy had found her in an alley, with a knife, her body in shredded clothes soaked with blood, dripping from the knife, from her own body. He had taken her in his arms and promised to protect her from then on. What a great favour she was doing him, she thought.

When Luffy left the house he headed with his older brothers to Partys bar, a small tavern where the owner, Makino, used to treat them well and give them good food in exchange for some favours, not the tasteless stuff Dadan had for them.

"Luffy!" Hearing his name brought many different reactions from the bar, some would smile and wave at him but others would look at him like he was scum, he knew that being dark-skinned would always be a drawback. He approached Makino with a warm smile. She was like another mother to him. She hugged all the siblings lovingly and gave them meat sandwiches and some chores to do.

Getting the chores done and helping his siblings steal some bad guys he finally waved goodbye to them where they had hidden their motorbike.

"So, you're leaving already? " He shifted in his place a little disappointed.

"You know we hate to" Ace started the engine as Sabo gave his brother one last hug.

"We'll visit you again soon enough to see that progress with your redheaded girlfriend" he chuckled and Luffy just smiled a little sheepishly.

"Shut up and leave already" They laughed and waved goodbye as the sun set in the distance, leaving him in the darkness.

He put on his black hood and mask and started walking towards the district he knew would find her.

Nami had found the opportunity of a lifetime. It wasn't every day she could participate in illegal gambling. And she was good at it. She was robbing that shark-faced guy blind.

Alcohol and drugs were everywhere, as always, and she never denied them. She liked the taste and the feeling, even if she regretted it the next morning. Tequila shots, joints, cocaine and different liquors were everywhere in the VIP lounge.

Thus when she realised, after a few blinks, that the shark-faced guy was groping her breasts and sliding his hand between her legs, she could only giggle. However, it was a panicked laugh.

She was trying to get away from him and the wet kisses on her neck. "You're a tasty slut" She could hear him say in her ear, through the loud music, before licking her earlobe.

"I want you for my collection", she shivered, "You'll like that. I treat all my dolls like they deserve", he grabbed her ass as she reached for the small blade hidden in her underwear yet he caught hold of it in time and dropped it squeezing her wrist so hard it left a bruise.

"You're a naughty naughty doll" She began to wheeze, sniffling.

"And bad things will happen to wicked dolls", she began to twitch as his grip grew harder and she felt herself getting increasingly cornered, but she was not going to cry. Not again.

She looked into his eyes and spat into his face. "You don't own me" anger in her voice. He looked back at her with a smile on his lips but a glare that screamed danger.

"I'm going to teach you a lesson" He grabbed her by the neck, choking her and walked out the back door of the club into the alley and pressed her face against the rough wall still holding her.

"I'm going to teach you a lesson you'll never forget" She struggled, fighting, but not strong enough to face him.

He ripped her underwear.

"N-No! p-please". Everything around her was a merry-go-round of colours and shapes. Pain all over her body and two feelings that were the strongest: fear and confusion.

"You're going to beg, but you're going to beg for anything else you little whore."

As he grabbed her by the hair and pulled her to her knees, he pulled his pants open and started to put her face towards his manhood, he was suddenly struck by a kick on his side that knocked him off balance.

He glanced in the direction the kick came from and laughed as he saw what looked to him like a small boy in a fighting stance.

Luffy looked back, shielding Nami, "Don't worry Nami, I'm here now".

The other man, Arlong, chuckled, "So you had a flea boyfriend", he said jokingly, glaring at Luffy, who had a furious look on his face

"You will never touch her again, never approach her, never even lay a look at her", his voice was deep, his nails digging into the flesh of his own fists in anger.

"And who is going to stop me? You?", Arlong was still teasing him. Luffy moved towards him but fell to the ground when Arlong punched him hard enough to knock him to the ground.

"Luffy!" cried Nami. Her back against the wall, confused, shaking and sweating. She was high and intoxicated, but she couldn't watch as Arlong was stomping and kicking him in the gut as Luffy tried to defend himself.

She reached for a glass bottle of beer and came up behind Arlong, hitting him in the back of the head. With a yelp of pain, he grabbed the broken bottle from Nami's hand and tried to hurt her with it yet Luffy jumped in front of her catching the cut under his eye.

"Luffy! Your eye!" Luffy pursed the leaking wound trying to stop the bleeding as he could only see Arlong from his good eye. He removed his mask and took off his jacket, leaving him with only his white shirt and long jeans. His hair curled and his dark skin glowed under the full moon. Nami looked at him as the most beautiful creature she had ever seen as he leapt at Arlong, wrestling him down to the pavement.

He was pinned to the ground being beaten to death when Nami reacted, grabbing a piece of the broken glass bottle, grabbing it with such force that it cut off her own hand and stabbed it into Arlong's neck with a scream. He released his grip on Luffy as she sat on top of him and began to stab the bloody blade into his chest as he choked on his own blood.

It was Luffy who stopped her when he caught his breath. Soothing words whispered in her ear as she trembled looking at the bloody body behind her. She dropped the glass starting to cry out in between screams as she hugged Luffy as if he was the last string in her life. And she knew he was.

He wrapped his jacket and arms around her, leaving the crime scene before they could be found. No words were exchanged as they made their way up the rooftops and found themselves on the rooftop of their home.

They sat there, looking up at the sky and Luffy sighed, a smile on his lips. She looked at him in disbelief as he began to laugh a little.

"What are you laughing at?" She said a little annoyed. And he looked at her, so fondly, that her breath left her body. He took her wounded hand, bandaged with a strip of his own white shirt.

"I'm just so happy you're alive," he uttered. Relief in his words.

She looked at him speechless and her hand came to the cut behind his eye.

"Does it hurt?" She whispered and her eyes lowered to his lips.

"Every day" he whispered back, and she blinked as she saw his eyes on her lips.

At last, she allowed her body to fall over him and kissed him tenderly on the lips. It tasted like blood. His arms embraced her and stroked her long, curly hair. When she opened her mouth and found his tongue, the taste was different. It tasted of heat. It tasted like destiny. Like a thread. Like a string; and she couldn't stop moving her lips over his. And he could no longer breathe without her lips on his.
