Chapter 1: A Fateful Encounter

It was a quiet afternoon in Santispear Village, the birds were chirping, people were smiling, life was good. A young woman was walking the marketplace carrying groceries, headed back to her home. She was an attractive 23-year-old woman with long spiky pink hair. She also had a smile that could light up even the darkest of rooms. She was a mage, not a very powerful one mind you, but one of the few that resides in this village.

"Hey there Miss Faye, hope you're having a good day!" one of the shopkeepers called out with a smile.

Faye returned the smile and gave the man a wave. She was adored in this town, and in turn, she adored it and all its inhabitants. Faye walked back to her home on the outskirts of the town smiling and humming to herself. She arrived at her house, it was a small and simple building, but she loved it. It was close enough to the town to be considered a part of it, but far enough away so she could have her privacy. As she unlocked the door and put her groceries on the table, an eerie feeling overtook her. She turned to see a man sitting on her sofa. He was tall with long dark blue hair that ran down his back and had blue tribal tattoos that occupied his tan skin. "Who are you?" she asked with a mixture of fear and anger in her voice. The man just stared at her with his evil eyes and flashed an evil smile. She was about to open her mouth to say something, but the man cut her off.

"Have you ever heard of the Black Dragon of the Apocalypse?" he asked with a hint of arrogance around him.

"Yes," Faye calmly replied. "They say he was the one responsible for the downfall and extinction of all the dragons."

The man gave a low chuckle and began to speak. "Very good. Someone must be well versed in history. But allow me to tell you something not many know about that dragon. He was once human." Faye looked shocked as the man continued his story. "His village was destroyed by dragons and from that day forward, he swore to bring an end to their kind, so he sought out someone to teach him Dragon Slayer Magic. He learned it obviously, and killed hundreds, thousands, hell I don't even remember how many dragons he killed. He killed so many that he even turned into a dragon himself. This, of course, only made his job easier though, until he killed the very last dragon." The man said now standing over a cowering Faye. "Or so he thought, there are still a few left. And I need help to find and exterminate the rest."

"Why do you want to kill them? Are you some sort of servant of his or something?" she asked nervously.

"Oh, nothing like that," he chuckled. "My name is Acnologia, and I am the Black Dragon of the Apocalypse."

Faye could only shake in fear at what the man said. "W-what do you want from me?" she asked as she began to cry.

He looked at her with an evil gaze, "I already told you." he growled as he pushed the woman into her room. "I need a tool I can use to find the remaining dragons, and you're going to give it to me." With that final sentence between the two, Acnologia pushed the crying woman to her bed and ripped her clothes off…

As he finished, he left the now broken woman crying and shivering on her bed. He walked to the door and yelled out "I'll be back in five years and if I don't like what I see, I'll kill you and the child, hell I'll wipe out this whole damn town." He laughed manically as he vanished outside the house.

As Faye laid in bed crying about what had just happened to her, she could only think about what the man said. Was she pregnant? She certainly wasn't before. Did this evil man just leave her with a child? Did she even want to keep it? She didn't want any reminder of this vile, horrible man. As she drifted to sleep, she had one final thought, 'If I am going to have a child, I'll make sure it's nothing like it's father.'

Almost five years had passed since that infamous day in Faye's life. She was walking through the marketplace with groceries as she had done so many years ago, only she wasn't alone this time. A small boy held her hand and followed the young woman. The boy's name was Natsu, and he was her son. At first, she was terrified of having that monster's child, but now she was so glad she did. He was her everything. She loved him with all her heart. She was also happy that the boy looked almost exactly like her. He had the same spikey pink hair as her, the same facial structure as her, the same bright smile as her, although he had sharper canine teeth. He also had her kind and caring heart. Natsu was loved and adored by the town, just like her, and she was so grateful for this. The only thing the boy had of his fathers were his eyes. He had the same menacing and cold eyes as his father. But they were also different from his father's, Natsu was a happy child and that dulled the evil spark held within his eyes. It was enough so that no one else noticed, but Faye did. 'Of course, he has to have something from his father, but why did it have to be his eyes.' Faye pondered but her thoughts were interrupted when she heard her son's voice. "Mommy, can we stop and get ice cream?" the young boy asked his mother.

"Of course we can my sweet boy!" Faye said happily. She laughed to herself. 'What am I worried about. He will never turn out like his father. He is much to kind.' Faye thought to herself as they headed home from the ice cream store. They arrived at their house shortly after and Faye turned to her son and said, "Why don't you go play with your toys for a bit and Mommy will put this stuff up, okay?"

"Okay!" a smiling Natsu replied as he hurried of to go play with his toys. Faye finished putting the groceries up and sat down at the table and began to make something. It was a necklace for Natsu's fifth birthday, which just happened to be tomorrow. She finished the necklace and held it up. It was a thin circular piece of metal with a "N" engraved, woven to a long leather strip. It was beautiful, and she hoped Natsu would like it. As she put the necklace in a small box, she remembered what would happen tomorrow. He would return. Faye began to cry because she didn't know what would happen. Natsu had begun asking about his father about a year ago, but she would always brush the questions off. She knew it made him sad, but she also saw that he tried so hard not to show her that he was upset. She got up and wiped the tears away as she called out to Natsu for dinner. They ate in silence and all Faye could think about was this might be her last night with her child.

"Natsu." She finally spoke.

"Yes Mommy?"

"Your father is coming tomorrow." She said in a somber tone that Natsu didn't seem to pick up on.

"Really!?" The boy said happily, "I'll finally get to meet him!"

"I wanted to give you something Natsu." She handed her son the box and he opened it and took out the necklace.

"Oh wow! Thank you, Mommy, I love it! Will you put it on me?" Natsu asked. Faye happily did as her son asked. They settled in for the night. Natsu fell asleep, blissfully unaware of what was about to come. Faye sat wide awake, holding her son's hand. She couldn't sleep. She was too afraid of what tomorrow would bring.

It was around six in the morning when Faye heard the door open, and there he was. The man she wished to never see again. It was him. It was Acnologia. He looked exactly the same as he did five years ago. The same evil aura, and the same menacing and cold eyes. "The boy. Where is he?" Acnologia asked abruptly.

"He's sleeping, I didn't kn-"

"Go get him." Acnologia cut her off.

Faye went to her son's room, bent down and gently woke him up. "Natsu, sweetie, your father is here and he would like to meet you." She whispered and gently shook him as Natsu shot up and ran to greet his father for the first time.

She walked out and saw him crouching down beside her son. He looked up at Faye with an evil grin and told the boy to go outside for a minute. Natsu did as he was instructed. This pleased him. After Natsu left, Acnologia walked up to Faye and said, "I'll be taking him now."

Tears began to well up in her eyes, "You… You can't. Please! He's my everything. Please don't take him away from me," she pleaded.

"Not another word or I'll kill you." He said coldly.

Faye didn't care, she wasn't about to let this monster take her son. She raised her hand to strike the man but her body went limp and dropped to the floor without hesitation. "You humans never learn. Still, I should thank you for the tool." Acnologia stepped over her body and walked out the front door.

Natsu ran over to greet his father. Acnologia noticed the boy looked much like his mother, not having much of a resemblance to himself. But Acnologia saw that the boy had the same eyes as him. The same menacing and cold eyes the Black Dragon had. Those eyes were the whole reason he decided to take the boy with him. In fact, if he didn't have those eyes, Acnologia would probably have destroyed the whole town. But, he saw darkness, potential, in those eyes. And that was enough for him.

"Get your things boy. You're coming with me." Acnologia stated.

"But what about Mommy?" Natsu questioned.

"THAT WAS AN ORDER!" Acnologia barked. "Do not make me repeat myself."

"Okay Fath-"

Acnologia slammed they boy to the ground. "You will not call me that. You will address me as Lord Acnologia. Do I make myself clear?"

"Yes sir," the boy whimpered. Acnologia removed his hand and allowed the boy to go get his things. After several minutes of waiting, much to his annoyance, Natsu exited the house with a duffle bag. "Why is Mommy laying on the ground? And why won't see get up?"

"It's simple, she's dead."

"What does that mean?" the boy asked innocently.

"It means she's gone and she's not coming back." He replied coldly.

"She's gone?" Natsu asked as tears began to fill his eyes.

Acnologia knew he had to trick the boy so it wouldn't trigger his dormant power yet. "Yes, she has been sick for a while and asked me to take care of you. That's why I'm here." Acnologia stated, quite proud of his lie.

"Okay, I'll go with you. If that's what Mommy wanted." The boy said with a smile.

'If only he knew what he's in for,' Acnologia thought to himself as a wicked grin appeared across his face. As the boy and his father wondered into the unknown.
