Hey! Glad you clicked. I have been having major writers block. I've been sitting on this intro for a while and I have a hundred different ideas on where to take it. I decided to just roll with it. It might be a short story. It might be a long story. We shall find out.
Define Yourself
Chapter 1
The gentle wind sweeps across the plains and up the soft grassy slope just north of Pallet Town. There its breath meets a still figure staring down at the speckling of houses between patches of crops and gardens. To many, Pallet Town is a quick knot tied in the long string of their journeys, but to Ash Ketchum it is where every one of his journeys has started. While he knows his next journey will be different than the many before; he knows that it must start where every journey starts.
Ash sighs and steels himself for his final decision. Many weeks ago, he had come to a conclusion that his days of traveling for months and years at a time were coming to an end. For so long he traveled and trained and competed to fulfill one goal; to be a Pokemon Master.
However, after spending time in various regions around the world, he had learned more about Pokemon than Dexter could teach him. He has been to the ends of the earth and then back again to the start. He has trained Pokemon who he caught, Pokemon who would not listen, Pokemon who asked to join his team, Pokemon who were gifted to him, and Pokemon who hatched in his arms. He had competed in every major tournament and placed in the top 16 or higher in each competition. He had taken out various criminal organizations with the help of his close friends and Pokemon. He has befriended and trained legendary Pokemon. All this he did in less than fifteen years.
Eventually, a question occurred to him. It called to him and repeated in his mind as he stared up at the stars each night. What is a Pokemon Master? Is it someone who has won a league? Is it someone who has beaten the Elite Four and been crowned champion? Is it only the person who can claim the title of Monarch? Is it someone who has caught every species of Pokemon? Someone who has traveled across the world? Someone who's fought monsters and won?
Am I a Pokemon Master? He finally asked himself. He looked around at his extraordinary Pokemon team in his party and thought about those he left behind at the Oak Laboratory and across the world. He thought about the friends that he had made who made him stronger and smarter. He thought about the people in his life who pushed him to be better and taught him to never quit on his dream. After weeks of contemplation, Ash finally came to a satisfying conclusion.
And so when this journey finally came to a close, just as all of them before had, he went back to Pallet Town.
"I couldn't have asked for a better partner all of these years," Ash finally says, looking down to the orange mouse Pokemon standing next to him; the Pokemon who has always stood next to him.
His partner Pokemon, Raichu, smiles up at him. His loyalty and trust know no bounds.
"Ready to start something new, buddy?" Ash asks quietly, gazing back at his hometown.
"Raichu!" Raichu agrees which reassures Ash that he is making the right decision.
"Let's go," Ash grins and begins the short walk toward his mother's house.
As he walks through the town, he sees old neighbors that recognize him and wave at him from their porches and gardens. He smiles and wonders if he will ever get reacquainted with such a tame life in a quiet town like Pallet.
"Mime!" Ash hears his mother's Pokemon as he approaches his house.
"What is it, Mimey?" Delia's voice can be heard from inside.
"Mime mime!" Mr. Mime calls her to come outside.
As she steps onto her front steps, she gasps in surprise at the sight of her son.
"Ash!" she exclaims as she runs forward to hug him.
"Hey mom," he greets joyfully as he hugs her back.
"You are so grown up," Delia states through tears running down her lips. "It's been so long! When did you get so tall? And strong?"
"Shh, mom," he chuckles, "don't worry. I'm sticking around this time."
Delia's eyes light up at the idea, but she looks at him oddly.
"What do you mean?" she requests skeptically.
"One journey is ending and a new one is beginning." Ash explains simply to his mother.
"But Ash," she gasps, "what about becoming a Pokemon Master?"
Ash can't help but grin at the question, but doesn't answer.
Her eyes sparkle at his unsaid words and then she quickly beckons him inside.
"I wasn't expecting you to come home like this," Delia apologizes. "We'll have to go get you a new wardrobe and pick you out a new bed because I doubt you'll want to sleep on a tiny twin bed every night!"
Ash chuckles at the thought, but reassures her, "I've been sleeping on the ground so long that I'm sure it will be heaven!"
"Nonsense!" Delia waves him off, "if you are staying for a while, we're getting you a new bed."
"Alright alright," Ash agrees, not wanting to piss off his mother.
"Besides, if you bring a girl home, you'll need more room than a twin mattress," Delia says nonchalantly, patting his chest.
Ash chokes on his own saliva at the comment and blushes a dark red hue. Raichu giggles at him from the ground.
"Oh! Raichu!" Delia fusses, leaning down to greet him. "It is so good to see you too!"
"Mom!" Ash groans, still feeling embarrassed. "Why did you even have to say that?"
"Ash, if you are home for good and planning to settle down then I assume that you will be looking to date, right?" Delia asks.
"Well, I don't know," Ash answers, feeling flustered. "There are no women my age in Pallet anyway."
"Maybe there's a girl you have your eyes on already?" Delia presses her son.
A half smirk forms on Ash's face unintentionally which tells Delia what she wanted to know.
"Did you come home because of this girl?" Delia asks cautiously.
Ash closes his eyes and sighs.
"I came home because I felt like my journey was complete," Ash tries to explain again agitatedly, "and that it's time for a new journey."
"I understand, honey," Delia says with a wide grin.
"Mom!" Ash groans again, knowing that his mother would not let it go easily.
"I'll start on dinner, dear," Delia tells him as she walks into the kitchen. "Why don't you head up to the lab to see some of your Pokemon?"
"Great idea, mom!" He agrees excitedly.
"Just be home in a few hours!" she requests.
"You got it!" he assures her.
Ash quickly runs up the stairs to his room and throws his bag on the ground next to his desk. He smells his armpits briefly and cringes at the foul odor. He could definitely use a shower. However, his Pokemon have been waiting long enough, and Ash was never a patient man himself. Instead of showering, he sets his hat on the dresser and pulls off his jacket. Then he replaces his black shirt with a fresh one. He drops the jacket into the laundry hamper and neglects to pick up his hat. Ever since he has been shaving his hair shorter, it has stayed much neater so he has worn his hat less often.
"Alright! Let's go!" He says to Raichu who agrees eagerly.
After yelling a quick goodbye, Ash and Raichu are off down the dusty road that winds up to the Oak Laboratory.
In total, the Oak Laboratory is a ten minute jog uphill which he doesn't mind. After training his body and mind for fourteen years, he handles exercise with ease. Raichu bounds alongside him, matching his pace.
Soon he reaches the barn style laboratory, and he walks through the automatic sliding glass doors.
"Professor!" Ash calls out immediately.
"Well, hello, Ash!" Professor Oak greets as he enters into the front entryway of the lab. "Good of you to drop by, my boy. Your Pokemon will be very excited to see you."
"I'm back for good this time," Ash informs him with a grin.
"For good you say, huh?" a sly voice asks from the other room.
"Gary?" Ash asks, recognizing the voice.
"I can't imagine Ashy boy settling down for good," Gary taunts as he enters the room.
The way that Gary speaks to him irks Ash, though he knows that his old pal and rival is just trying to get a rise from him.
"It is great to have you back, Ash," Professor Oak assures Ash. "I could definitely use help around here from such a high caliber trainer if you want to earn a paycheck."
"Gramps!" Gary hisses.
"Not to say that you're not a high caliber trainer as well, Gary," Professor Oak adds sheepishly.
"Hey, that'd be great for now!" Ash agrees cheerfully.
"I'll get the necessary paperwork started then," Professor Oak tells him and exits to the back areas of the laboratory.
"What really brings you back to Pallet Ash?" Gary pokes at him.
"I'm done traveling," Ash explains with a shrug of his shoulders, "and I feel like I completed what I set out to do."
Gary ponders what Ash says for a moment and then grins sincerely, "yeah, Ash, that was like five years ago when you won the Alolan League."
Ash looks at Gary quizzically at the strangely nice compliment but slowly smiles in response. The two men had really matured since they set out on their journeys on the same day. Unbeknownst to one another, they both hope they can truly be friends again like the days before their rivalry started at the river.
"I'm going to head out to see my Pokemon," Ash tells him as he walks towards the side doors, "but feel free to join if you want to catch up!"
"I'm waiting on someone here, but maybe in a while," Gary nods and waves as Ash exits.
Ash and Raichu run down the back hill towards the barns and fields. He knows he can count on his Tauros to be happy to see him.
"Hey everyone!" He yells as he runs into the field.
A couple of Tauros look up and spot him. They start to winnie which causes all of the Tauros to look in Ash's direction. Ash sticks his arms out as they stampede towards him.
"It's so good to see you all!" Ash tells them with excitement. Raichu cringes in fear of being trampled.
Luckily all of the Tauros are able to stop before they run into him, and they all crowd him. They have become a lot better at self control around their trainer over the last few visits.
One particular Tauros barges through the crowd. He is taller and buffer than the rest. He moos happily at the sight of Ash. Ash recognizes this Tauros as the specific one that he had chosen and trained infrequently throughout the last decade.
"Tauros!" He exclaims cheerily. Then Ash grabs Tauros's horns and gives him a light head butt.
Ash laughs with his 38 Tauroses. Yes, over many years, the Tauros had multiplied and Ash often found himself meeting a new one during every visit.
Eventually, Ash is able to convince his Tauros that he wouldn't be leaving on another journey any time soon and would come to visit daily. They were satisfied enough to allow him to seek out his other Pokemon.
After making his rounds and visiting every one of his Pokemon that he could find on the large reserve, he rounds up his top battlers and assures them that they would be training altogether daily. While he won't be training to win a league or beat a rival, he would train to stay fit and strong and uphold his self given title of Pokemon Master.
Inside Oak Lab, Gary awaits their guest in the front lobby. He paces back and forth in deep thought.
"Gary, what time did she say she was going to come by?" Professor Oak asks as he enters the room.
"Around three," Gary tells him.
"Does she know Ash is here?" Professor Oak asks curiously.
"She's about to find out," Gary chuckles with a smirk crossing his features.
"What are you planning, Oak?" a smooth, feminine voice asks from the opening automatic doors.
Gary and Professor Oak look to find their expected guest standing in the doorway. The woman stands just slightly taller than average height. Her figure is slim and lean, yet womanly in desired areas. Wavy, orange hair descends her back and dusts her shoulders. She wears a blue halter top with matching blue jean shorts and a yellow jacket. On her feet, she sports a pair of yellow converse.
"What? Nothing," Gary waves it off nonchalantly.
"It's never nothing with you Gary Oak," she smiles and shakes her head warmly.
Though Gary knows that Misty is forbidden fruit, he finds her wildly attractive nonetheless. She had grown in beauty over the last few years to the point where her three gorgeous sisters finally had to acknowledge that she was just as beautiful as them and accepted her as the fourth sensational sister. Of course that is when Gary had seen a change in the youngest Waterflower. He wondered where the fiery redhead had gone and where this calm and collected young woman came from.
"Anyway," she continues, pulling her backpack off her shoulders, "I have the egg in my bag."
"Great!" the Professor exclaims, "then I will take a look at it and tell you what I can about it."
Misty pulls a light purple egg out of her pack and hands it to Professor Oak.
"Thank you, Professor," Misty nods politely as Professor Oak leaves the entryway with the egg.
"Where did you find it again?" Gary asks curiously.
"I was jogging along the Cerulean Cape, and I found it just washed up on the shore," Misty explains.
"Strange," Gary shrugs his shoulders.
"I hope everything is alright with it," Misty sighs sadly.
"Hey, Misty, don't worry too much," Gary tries to comfort her, but has difficulty sounding sincere.
An idea strikes him and he smirks to himself.
"Let's head out back and catch up with Wartortle and Ivysaur while you get your mind off it," Gary suggests, trying to seem as caring as possible.
A sadness washes over Misty's features at the mention of the two Pokemon.
"It has been a long time since I've seen them," Misty states nervously.
"C'mon!" Gary grabs onto her arm and pulls her towards the door.
"I suppose," she sighs and resides to follow.
They exit the lab and walk down the hill towards the grassy field.
"Doesn't Wartortle like the stream on that end?" Misty asks, pointing 90 degrees to their right.
"We have to make a pit stop first," Gary tells her, smirking as he pulls her along.
In the middle of the field, Misty's eyes are drawn to a man surrounded by very familiar Pokemon of all shapes and sizes. He is moving from one to the next and helping each of them perfect their stances. His black shirt is partially drenched in sweat from working out with the Pokemon.
"Punch!" he yells, and all of the Pokemon with arms extend a powerful punch forward.
"Punch!" he yells again, and they all switch arms.
He pauses to show Sceptile how to turn his wrist as he extends his fist. Then he kicks back Sceptile's foot to give him a wider stance.
Misty squints as she observes the tanned and lean man in the field as she approaches. He stands a head taller than her, she figures from the distance, and his dark black hair is cut short. She does not recognize him until she stands only fifty feet away. Then, she realizes that all of the present Pokemon belong to her old friend, and that's when she pieces it together.
"I'm out of here," she hisses at Gary as she turns sharply and begins her ascent back to the lab; hoping Ash wouldn't see her.
"Misty, wait!" Gary purposefully yells loud enough for Ash to hear.
Misty cringes at his tactics, but doesn't look back. It has been years since Gary pulled one over on her, and she remembers now that he will always be a sly snake.
"Misty?" Ash asks in a whisper, looking up the hill towards her as she walks away from him with Gary following quickly after. He notes that her ginger hair is long and cascading down her back rather than her signature side ponytail, and her new outfit that is reminiscent of her old traveling outfits.
Ash's lips part as if he wants to say something, but he, instead, clenches his jaw shut and swallows his words. He can see that she is not ready to speak with him, and he knows he must pick his battles. At least now she knows that he's back.
Misty stomps back towards the lab muttering about Gary's insolence. She is resolute to escape the presence of both men. Gary Oak is once again on her shit list for pulling that stunt. She closes her eyes and regains her composure. The further away from Ash she gets the easier it is to regain control. He has always held too much power over her emotions. She has been fighting an inner battle for the last couple of years to hold herself up and remain in control. Now, it has been four years since he walked out of her life, and she refuses to let him have the power he once held in her life.
"What the fuck, Gary!" Misty screeches at him when he grabs her arm.
"There she is," Gary chuckles, "that's the fiery Misty I remember." He is not afraid of the wrath of Misty Waterflower.
"What is he doing here?" she whines smacking him in the arm.
"He's back," Gary shrugs his shoulders.
"When is he leaving?" she asks with a sigh. She rubs her temples in frustration.
"He's not," Gary responds simply with a toothy smile.
"He's not leaving?" Misty asks in confusion.
"Nope," Gary explains what Ash told him earlier, "he said he's reached his goals and now it's time to settle down a little."
"He can't just come back," Misty crosses her arms and grunts.
"He did," Gary says, rolling his eyes, "I don't know what else to tell you."
Misty groans and rubs her forehead.
"I wasn't ready for this," Misty says as she shakes her head.
"I know," Gary chuckles, "but otherwise you never would have even come around to see him."
"I still won't. I'm leaving once I know about that egg." Misty enters the lab and sits on one of the couches in the lobby.
"Fine," Gary says as he walks towards the lab area, "I'll just go check on it for you."
"Thanks," she mutters as she drops her face into her hands.
How does the black haired man in the field hold so much of her heart? She wonders to herself. For four years she has commanded herself with elegance and remained the pinnacle of calm, cool, and collected. She has played the part of the graceful and talented fourth Sensational Sister. Gone were the days of Misty's short temper and fury. Yet, at the sight of Ash Ketchum, all fuses have blown by the spark in her heart. She wants to smack him, hug him, kick him, and kiss him at the same time. Feelings that she had pushed deep into her bones are rising again and she is powerless against them. Her feelings for Ash are the only emotions that she cannot manipulate. The only solution is to stay away and guard her tender heart.
In the field, Ash finds himself at a loss for words. He was hoping to catch up with his old friends soon, but he wasn't expecting Misty to walk back into his life and immediately back out on the same day that he returned. Although he knew that there might be tension with the orange haired woman when he returned, he feels deep disappointment that she had not stayed to greet him. However, he isn't sure if he is ready to face her anyway. They'd parted on poor terms and Ash doesn't want to rehash it.
He sighs as he takes up a fighting stance with his Pokemon and starts leading their training again. As he trains with his Pokemon, he can't help but think of the beautiful orange haired woman that he hasn't seen in so long. An hour or so later, he just can't seem to focus as the sky darkens, so he tells his Pokemon that it was enough of a start for the day because many of them haven't trained in years. The majority of them are grateful to go back to playing but a handful choose to stick around and train harder together.
At the sight of his most determined Pokemon still training, he smiles and remembers how they contributed to his success as a Master. He wonders if they would be satisfied not competing in tournaments any longer. Of course, he would enter for the sake of his powerful and proud Pokemon even if he feels he has nothing to prove.
Ash sighs as he looks up towards the lab and wonders if Misty is still there. He figures she has run for the hills since spotting him, but he decides to check before he goes home. Trudging up the hill with Raichu on his heels, he feels a brick forming in the pit of his stomach.
Upon reaching the door, he takes a deep breath and then walks through it. Curled up on one of the couches in the entryway lies the woman that had taken his thoughts captive. He wonders what has compelled her to stick around when she obviously didn't want to see him.
Knowing better than to wake Misty up, he sits down across the lobby from her. Raichu softly pads across to her and jumps up into her arms. She startles from her sleep and looks down at the orange rodent in her arms. For a brief moment, she is confused where the Raichu came from, but then her eyes slowly raise to meet Ash's. She won't hold eye contact though, so she looks back down at the mouse.
"It's been a long time, Pikapal," Misty tells him with a soft smile, patting his head. "I didn't even know you evolved."
"Raichurai!" he responds and nuzzles her cheek.
Ash smiles warmly as Misty interacts with his starter Pokemon. Raichu had always been most fond of Misty of all his friends. He wonders if it's because he's always held an affinity for the woman himself.
"How long have you been sitting there?" she asks, avoiding his gaze.
"Just sat down," he explains, "and Raichu just had to snuggle with you."
"Oh okay," she shrugs and continues to pet Raichu.
She hopes that he doesn't try to start a conversation, but finds she is not that lucky.
"So, how have you been?" Ash asks awkwardly, scratching the back of his head.
"Fine," she responds shortly.
"Great," he mutters knowing that she doesn't want to talk to him.
They sit uncomfortably avoiding each other's gaze for a few minutes until Gary struts in.
"Baby steps, huh guys?" he snickers.
"Shut up, Gary," Misty mumbles and continues to stroke Raichu's fur.
Ash just glares at him.
Professor Oak walks in after Gary with the egg that Misty entrusted him with earlier.
"Professor!" Misty sits up eagerly.
"Well Misty," Professor Oak begins, "this egg you found seems to be healthy enough. I'm glad you found it though because it needs to be kept warm."
"That's wonderful!" she beams knowing that she helped a Pokemon.
"What Pokemon is it?" Ash asks, intrigued by the mysterious blue egg.
"I'm not sure, Ash," Professor Oak confesses, "it might be a water Pokemon though considering Misty found it near water. I'd like to keep it here to monitor it. We have the finest incubation technology.
Misty nods in agreement, wanting nothing more than the best for the baby Pokemon inside.
"I can't wait to see what it is!" Ash chimes in excitement.
Misty's eyes snap in his direction, but she doesn't say anything. She thinks once she leaves the lab, she won't be seeing him for a while.
Professor Oak bids everyone a goodnight and leaves towards his living quarters.
"I'm going to head home," Misty says while pulling out her phone.
When she sees that it is well past sunset, she groans. She had ridden her bike expecting to return before dark. She wouldn't mind riding in the dark if it weren't for Viridian Forest. That place is crawling with bug Pokemon that come out at night!
"What's wrong?" Gary asks boredly.
Misty hesitates, but shares, "I just hate riding through Viridian Forest at night."
"You can stay with me," Ash suggests immediately.
"What?" Misty asks in surprise and horror. How could she cut him out of her life again if she stays overnight at his home.
"You've stayed over before," Ash reminds her.
"Yeah, but we were kids," Misty rolls her eyes.
"What's it going to be, Misty," Gary asks humorously, "the Viridian Forest at dark or Ashy boy's house and a hot meal with Delia."
Misty has to seriously contemplate which situation was worse; terrifying bug Pokemon or staying over at her old crush's house after four years of no contact.
In the end, the thought of one of Delia's home cooked meals breaks the tie and she agrees.
"This doesn't mean we're friends," Misty says to Ash coldy as she pushes past him and leaves out the main doors.
Ash runs his fingers through his hair, not really knowing how to fix their friendship.
"Man, I expected screaming," Ash sighs in sadness, "but I think her cold shoulder is worse."
"She's changed, Ash," Gary informs him, clapping him on the back.
"What do you mean?" Ash asks, trying to spot her outside.
"She's a Sensational Sister now," Gary explains, "she acts just like her sisters."
"There's no way," Ash argues, "Mist is way too smart to be like that."
"No, I mean she is on the cover of magazines and performing in their shows. She has quite a large following now being a great trainer and a performer. I've seen men stand outside their gym with cardboard cutouts of her face!" Gary shares what he knows with Ash.
"She never cared about that stuff before," Ash mumbles hotly.
"She does now," Gary informs him, shrugging his shoulders, "and until tonight, I haven't seen or heard of her losing her temper in over three years."
"Why did she tonight?" Ash asks with concern.
"Because I tricked her into seeing you," Gary smirks.
Ash breathes a deep sigh of disappointment. While he knows that he has hurt her, he didn't know that she would be so stubborn about his return.
"I better catch up to her," he concludes as he draws his hand across his face.
With a quick goodbye, Ash leaves Gary and darts outside after Misty and Raichu.
He finds her standing at the top of the hill looking out over Pallet.
"Ready?" he asks gently, interrupting her thoughts.
She sighs and nods, residing to follow him down the stairs that lead to the path through town. She rolls her bicycle alongside her and Raichu sits in the basket.
"So," Ash tries to break the silence, "I heard that you're officially a Sensational Sister. Congrats."
"Thanks," Misty mutters quietly, "I hate it."
"What?" Ash furrows his brows and looks at her curiously.
Under his direct gaze she blushes. However, under the darkening sky, it is difficult to tell.
"I just," she stutters trying to explain, "you know I only ever cared about being a Water Pokemon Master."
"Then why do you play the part?" Ash asks.
"I don't know," she doesn't feel like he deserves her explanation. Ash can feel there is more to it, but won't push.
After a few minutes of walking in silence, Ash asks, "did Gary tell you that I'm sticking around this time?"
Misty snorts in disbelief. Ash Ketchum is not the settle down type.
"What?" he asks, feeling somewhat offended.
"I can't imagine Ash Ketchum growing up and quitting Pokemon training, getting a job, and marrying some random pretty girl," Misty scoffs.
"Well, Misty," he spits back in frustration, "I'm not."
"But you said-" she started snarkily.
"I'm still going to train, but I don't feel the need to travel for months and months. And I do have a job now. Professor Oak said I could work with him whenever I want. And maybe I will marry some pretty girl because traveling alone for four years sucked and I could use some company." Ash spews at her in frustration. She has always known how to ruffle his feathers.
"I told you I couldn't come with you," Misty snaps, glaring at him, "why didn't you just pick up some random pretty girl to travel with you like usual?"
"You didn't even try to come with," Ash argues, stepping threateningly closer to her.
Ash's fiery gaze stares down at Misty's equally angry expression. They both seethe at the resurrection of the argument that stole the last four years of friendship from them.
"I'm just going to try my luck in the forest," Misty snaps angrily as she hands Raichu to Ash and mounts her bike. Raichu jumps away not wanting to be in the middle of their battle.
"Misty," Ash groans, standing in front of her bike, stepping his legs around each side of the front wheel.
"Move, Ash," she bites back.
"Misty, come on," Ash pleads as he holds onto her handlebars.
"Ash, move!" she spits in frustration.
"You're staying over," he insists. His piercing hazel eyes dare her to challenge him.
For a moment, Misty's resolve weakens. His gaze is sincere and enticing. However, like bile rising in her stomach, she feels the overwhelming pit of anger that she had buried for so long. Ash could not win this time.
"Move," she warns darkly.
Ash's hazel eyes flicker quickly across her face, trying to determine if he should fight her or let her go. However, he steps backwards and away from her front bike tire.
Misty takes no extra time spinning her bicycle away from him, mounting it, and pedaling off in the direction of Viridian forest.
"Fucking Ash," she mutters as she rides quickly away from him. "Why did he have to come back?"
It takes only five minutes to reach the entrance to the forest. She pauses at the edge of the woods and shutters. No amount of strength she has gained as the Cerulean Gym Leader could overcome her irrational fear of creepy crawly bugs. As she sets her foot back on her pedals, she notices a flash of purple and green against the darkening sky.
A Noivern soars distantly above her. A Pokemon like that would certainly scare most of the bug Pokemon into hiding. She sees that there is no rider upon its back, but she knows who the creature belongs to.
"Ash," she whispers warmly; her tone gentler. A small grateful smile twitches on her lips and she is happy he isn't there to see. She turns on the light on her handlebars and pushes off again into the forest.
