"I love gold."

Sirius cracks one grey eye open, "Sure you do."

Undeterred, James continues, "Honestly! It's one of our house colors, it's in sunrises and sunsets…"

The pause is one of concentration as James lets his eyes dart around, following quietly buzzing object. His hand darts out and he grabs it with a grin, "Snitches!"

"You love gold," Sirius repeats, apparently giving up on his nap. It's grudging yes, but he's got more of a mischievous gleam in his eye than actual supportive 'yes James I will listen to you wax on about colors."

"Because of Gryffindor."

"Yup."

"And sunsets."

"Gorgeous," James agrees, eyes unfocused.

"And sunrises."

"Beautiful," James supplies, abandoned snitch smacking his temple, apparently not chuffed at the loss of attention.

"And snitches," Sirius adds, gesturing to the sad little thing hovering over James's shoulder.

James leans forward, arms braced on his knees, eyes still far away.

"And those little dangling earrings Evans got for her birthday."

James sighs as Evans tosses her head back by the shore, earrings tinkling like her laughs. "Yeah."
