Chapter 28- I am Unlucky

"You certainly know how to kick up a controversy, Harry." Narcissa sighed as she put down the newspaper. The revelation about the true identity of the Dark Lord had hit the likes of the Wizarding World very hard. The general public had gained a back bone after those inspiring words from Harry in the Daily Prophet.

"What can I say, love?" He kissed her cheek. "I do have a certain way with my tongue." He pointed out. Narcissa's gaze turned sultry.

"Oh, I know that first hand, Potter. Why do you think I have agreed to marry you?" She questioned.

"You must stop spending time with Bell. You are getting sassier as each day passes." He chuckled.

"Ugh…" James groaned. "Why do I have to sit and see you flirting with her, you smug git. Just get her upstairs and bang her the way you want."

"James!" Lily and Narcissa cried out, mortified by the implication.

"What?" James questioned his fiancee. "The bastard just wants to rub it in my face that he is banging her and her sisters."

"Oh god." Lily muttered, too embarrassed to reply. "I am sorry about him." She apologized to Narcissa, slapping his head softly.

"He was never a bright boy to begin with and he has apparently forgone all the hard work of my mother in law that went into his training to be a gentleman."

"It is a good thing that this one turned out better." Narcissa pointed out despite Harry's protests.

"Not that I am complaining. He does have a certain charm around him, that certainly helps to like him." She explained.

"Hey. Let me speak." Harry interrupted. "First things, I am better than that carbon copy that you call my brother." He counted his fingers.

"Two, I have banged two Black sisters. Not three. Get your information right, crow head." Harry teased his brother's bird's nest of hair.

Narcissa's blush was enough to send the other three into a laughing fit. She tried to glare at her fiance. "Hey, now you can't take away the best achievement of Lord Peverell. Bagging the Black sisters is no ordinary feat. Families have fought against us just to gain the hand of these beautiful ladies." He explained.

"Alright loverboy." Narcissa elbowed him softly. "You can stop with that."

"What next?" She asked. "Where do we go from here?"

"Oh, into the final blow. Into landing the final blow." Harry confirmed.

Tom was distressed beyond measure. Nothing was going his way and that troubled him greatly.

He had lost all support. The one factor that held his men together was the pureblood agenda. His blood boiled at what Potter had brought to light. He didn't ever want that to escape to the public and especially the Purebloods and this situation was far from ideal. He had begun his recovery. The pains would shoot up frequently, but it was coming down to the level of bearable.

He would be ready soon and he now had to figure out what to do. The public had turned. He had no idea what to do next. Nagini slithered next to him.

"What is it, my sweet?" He hissed.

"That wolf man issss here….." She hissed. The snake was referring to Greyback. He had nowhere to go. He had lost his pack and had been baying for Potter's blood for a while now.

He could not gain his trusted pack again, but he surely had the power to cause terror.

"Greyback?" The burly beast barred his yellow teeth as he stood in front of the man. "What is happening here?" He snarled. "This was not what you had envisioned nor what you had promised us. Your plans have collapsed and you have lost your support. What more can you offer us?" He questioned.

"I lost my entire pack because of you and now, where has this left me?"

Tom remained silent for some time. He needed to offer a better incentive if he needed the beast's support. "What do you expect, Fenrir?"

"I have very few men. I need my pack. I have a few men, but they are not as powerful as the old pack." Fenrir Greyback frowned. "I can ask for one thing though. You get me that feisty Black sister." Tom's eyes gained an incredulous look.

"You fool!" Tom growled, as his snake hissed. "Go against that family with that Potter brat now having the advantage. They would be all over you in a jiffy. They have the support of Aurors and we have no support. Not to mention the Potter and Black Lords. It took down all of my forces and we couldn't get into the grounds of their Manor. Are you out of your mind?" He roared.

The werewolf didn't budge. "That girl is very powerful and would make a great beta to my pack. Not to mention, if I bite her, she would be untouchable."

"That is out of the question, Fenrir." Voldemort hissed menacingly. The werewolf was far from scared by that. "You help me get that girl, we support you. If not, I walk away." He was not negotiating about that.

"Are you threatening me, Fenrir?" Tom's eyes glowed with barely restrained fury. The werewolf didn't flinch like he used to. "You don't scare me, Tom." The werewolf chuckled at the man's expression. "Remember that it was you that asked for my support, which I regret giving. I lost my entire pack in a day and now, you refuse to compensate. You might be powerful, but it won't do well to anger a werewolf." Fenrir growled.

"Very well. If that is what your opinion is, I have no choice but to do my job." The werewolf was confused, but before he could react, he was slammed by a crimson coloured ball right on his chest. Some kind of scraping noise began emanating from him and a sharp stabbing pain erupted from his midriff.

He looked down and his torso was consumed in a crimson glow. The next moment, the flesh around his chest began to rot and began to turn black. The rotting consumed his entire torso and before the man could take a step forward, he collapsed on the ground, dying instantly.

Tom eyed the corpse with barely restrained fury and disgust. He waved his wand and cleared the stench of the dead corpse and to stop the rotting.

"Dinner, Nagini." The snake sprang forward and latched onto the corpse of the werewolf.

Tom watched his loyal pet consume the last of the support that he had in the grand scheme of plans. He dropped the wand as his hand began shaking uncontrollably. The pain from the curse a few minutes back, reared its ugly head. He dropped down to the floor as he struggled to stay seated.

"Curse you Potter!!" He screamed as the pain turned excruciating. A few seconds later, he felt his pain ebb away gradually. It was better than what it was a week ago. He didn't know how long it would take him to get back to his original state. He had to find a way out. It was time that all of this was put to an end.

—--&&&--

"I hope that all these names are guilty, Auror Bones." Milicent Bagnold sighed as she rubbed her eyes. She looked up at the young man that was a credit to the Auror department and her Ministry. Although she had never been in the same circles as the Bones, she had come to respect this young man very much.

"Yes, Minister. My sister was pretty clear about that. And not at a low cost, mind you. She killed Dolohov and Bennet in the process to save her life."

The older woman hummed. "Potter and his friends have done a lot more to this war than our ministry could manage. I don't know how I could thank the boy." She began, caressing her forehead.

"The only way that Harry is at peace, will be when all of this ends, Madam Minister. He has been involved in a war at an age that he shouldn't have and it is high time that all of this madness is put behind him." Edgar replied.

It was true. Harry couldn't wait to put an end to all of this and lead his life peacefully. He had made that particularly clear and honestly, all of them expected it to be so. Bellatrix, Narcissa, James, Sirius, his sister and the others were so young and yet, have been battling against the Dark Lord for sometime now. It was time for them to think about their weddings or children or any jobs that they want to do, rather than look back over their shoulders to know that they aren't being followed or attacked.

"After all this is over, I will step down and take a long, long holiday." She sighed as she looked out the window. "A very long holiday."

They heard a knock on the door and a clunking noise told them who it was.

"Come in, Auror Moody." The veteran auror had a grin that seemed to be out of place and quite positively scary. "We can begin."

The two of them nodded and stood up. They exited the Minister's office and were faced with a battalion of Aurors. "Have these men been checked?" She questioned Moody.

The aged auror nodded. "Yes mam. These are my most trusted and the best that Auror corps have around." He explained. "I trust you know what you have to do?"

"Yes mam!" The aurors shouted. "Very good. Let us begin."

At her nod, Moody waved his wand signaling for a bunch of his men as his wand lit up with a bright white light. Right on cue, the ministry entrances began shutting down one by one. Commotions began around the atrium when all the exits were shut down. The people inside were confused and were chattering among themselves as to what was happening.

"Has the floo network been disabled?" Bagnold questioned without turning back. "Yes, mam. Moody has spoken with the Department of Magical Transportation and all the floo networks have been shut down."

Whispers of 'what is going on?' was heard all around the atrium. Bagnold braced herself before casting a sonorous.

"My dear witches and wizards." She had the attention of the entire hall on her. " I would like to begin by telling you to not panic. There is nothing wrong. We have placed the Ministry under lockdown." She waited for a few seconds and sure enough, the questions were thrown towards her from all the sides.

"If we can all remain calm, I can explain what is going on." The crowd went quiet.

"The Aurors would be conducting a routine search for the security of this August body." She gave a pause. "I have received intel that there are some traitors inside the ministry that sided with the Dark Lord Voldemort, causing havoc around magical Britain. You will be removed from the ministry. It is upto you to surrender. The aurors have full power to use force if deemed necessary."

Milicent watched a few of the suspects shift warily on their feets. "I would like to point out that there is no use denying. We have names. Surrender now, and you will have the chance to see daylight during your dying years. Resist arrest and today will be the last day you will ever breathe freely." She warned.

She and the entire ministry watched as a dozen men slowly walked forward, and dropped their wands on the ground before raising their hands. The Minister of Magic nodded her agreement as they were cuffed. She waited a few moments, but as she had guessed, the remaining men didn't surrender.

"Very well." She sighed as she nodded at Moody. "You leave me with very little choice."

At once, red beams left the wands of the aurors towards the supporters of the dark lord that they had kept an eye on.

Shrieks and screams were heard as the spells impacted against the desired offenders who dropped to the ground. Milicent watched as at least four dozen more men were added to the ones who had already surrendered.

She turned to Edgar who nodded, indicating that all of them were captured. The aurors began placing portkeys on the now stunned men.

Milicent cleared her throat. "If there are any more supporters of the Dark Lord, I would urge you to listen to me and surrender now. We will keep a close eye on every ministry worker. From a clerk to the decorated Wizengamot members. If at any chance you are found guilty, you will be punished with a death penalty." She announced to the shock of the remaining ministry employees.

"The days to throw around your status and escape are over. None of the ministry officials will be differentiated. It is time to turn over a new leaf and move forward. It is time to bring back greatness to this honorable body." The din of applause that followed took Milicent by surprise.

Every single person was clapping and cheering her announcement. For the first time in her life, Milicent felt a strange sense of satisfaction in her heart. The danger was far from over. But for now, she would give her contribution to the war.

—--&&&--

"I never knew that Bagnold had a spine." Charlus muttered as he and Arcturus read the newspaper. The most powerful lords of Britain had gathered in the sitting room of Grimmauld Place.

"About time." Arcturus gruffed. "But you are right. She did need a lot of courage to do what she just did." He explained. The two men had witnessed various scenarios, but none of them had seen a Minister of the British Ministry of Magic, openly warn the Ancient families.

This decision was worthy of respect for the Potter Lord and the Black Lord. Growing up the way they did, the current state of the Governing body always irritated the men. They loathed attending wizengamot meetings. They kept away from any events that involved the ministry.

In this pure blood dominated society, with every leader that they have known, coming of Pureblood families, gathering allies of other powerful families, that can cause misery if they did desire, this woman had just pulled off a shocking move. Some of the names that were arrested were no ordinary names.

They just hoped that the woman who made a firm decision today, stays headstrong and stands by her words for the future to come.

"Did your son mention when that curse would wear off?"

"Not anytime soon." Charlus grinned. "Whatever he did must be really painful because everytime that curse is mentioned, he lights up, has a laugh." He explained.

"He is itching to end this, Arcturus. He is fed up with all of it. My only worry is that he might do something hasty." Charlus sighed.

"Do you know what I think?" Arcturus asked. "He will triumph at any cost, Charlus. He has a reason to live. This is not his past life, nor is he that meek boy from his abuse. He has grown into a man, Charlus. A very powerful young man that we are all proud of. He is now engaged to be married, has a family that loves him. Not just that, I think there is a surprise waiting for the family." He pointed towards the family tapestry in the Lord's study.

Charlus followed his finger towards Harry's name under his and Dorea's name. James's name next to Harry's had the picture of Lily connected and from those names, another line went on, indicating that James and Lily were having a child. There was a picture of a baby underneath. His eyes widened when he looked towards Harry. Next to his picture, was another picture of Bellatrix, apart from the one that was already present along with her sisters. Connected to their names was a picture of a baby, just like James and Lily.

"Bellatrix is pregnant?" Charlus choked out. Arcturus hummed, his visage, one of amusement at his friend's expression.

"Dorea would go overboard with two kids to spoil." Charlus laughed, imagining the joy of his wife with two grandkids to spoil.

He gained a melancholic expression. "Time has passed rather quickly, Arcturus. It feels like just yesterday when the girls and boys were born and they are already close to getting married and two couples are on their way to becoming parents." The other man nodded, his expression getting lost once again.

"In the end, this was what we fought for. We never thought that after Grindelwald, we had to fight another Dark Lord, but our kids did most of the fighting this time. Bloody hell, they are more dangerous than you and I were on the battlefield." Arcturus pointed out.

"We lived, Arcturus. We lived through that and we will get through this. It is our luck that we have witnessed this family grow and expand to this stage, but I will close my eyes one day, knowing that I was there to see them all go on happily. I have no other qualms in my life." Charlus finished.

—-&&&--

Bellatrix had been feeling uneasy for sometime now. She didn't feel like eating much, she felt sick frequently though there was nothing wrong with her. Watching Lily everyday, Bellatrix had an idea about why she was feeling this way. She had kept it a secret from the family and also her Aunt Dorea. She had not informed anybody that she was on her way to St Mungo's. She didn't need a healer. She could identify the new source of magic in her body. A very strong presence, just like her father. A smile made its way onto her face, as she imagined what his reaction would be if he learns of this.

He cares for Nymphadora, as if she was his own. She caressed her belly as she stepped out of the hospital. "I just can't wait to see you, little one." She whispered, her hands not leaving her belly. "You will make your daddy a very happy man. You will be just like your father. Handsome and charming and mischievous. You will be Bella's prince." She was waiting to get home and break this news.

Any other day, Bellatrix would have just taken the floo or would have used her portkey to go home. Today, she felt like taking a walk. She strolled through the streets of Diagon alley, looking out for anything she might need. A sense of foreboding hit Bellatrix, but she pushed such shots out of her head.

Just when she reached the square, she heard a voice that she had not expected to hear.

"Hello Ms Black." Bellatrix rounded around to face the person, her wand in her hand, but she froze. The man had what seemed like a hood, but Bellatrix could see under that. His eyes had completely elongated to slits. Just like a snake. He grinned at her shocked expression and Bellatrix could see a pair of fangs. His face had lost its usual skin, but was covered with scales.

His eyes had always seemed crazy to Bellatrix, but now, she could feel the malice in his eyes.

She raised her wand. "Long time, Ms Black." He whispered.

Bellatrix didn't budge. Her lips quirked upward in a smile. "Where were you all these days, Mr Riddle? Did Harry's curse hurt ickle Tom Riddle?" She teased in her baby voice.

She felt a sense of satisfaction as she saw his eyes contort in rage. The man's face cleared as he took a deep breath. "Ah…that hurts, Ms Black. Your dear fiancee did try and get one over me. I'll give him that."

"Oh, not just that. You lost every single supporter. Your identity. Your ideology. Yourself. It is over." She taunted. Tom's face went red with fury. His facial features became crazed.

"Big mistake, Ms Black. Very big mistake." He slashed his wand towards the other side of the square and his wand shot forward five beams of bright purple light and explosions rang around Diagon Alley. Bellatrix heard the various screams ring through the square.

Before Bellatrix could react, Lord Voldemort had sprang into action. He began throwing curses left and right, all the while staring down at Bellatrix. His eyes never left the girl who had frozen for some time.

Tom grinned. "Surprised, Ms Black?" He questioned. "Rituals are such a wonderful bunch of magic, not that the other fools here recognise the speciality and the power of such rituals. The same thing does not hold true for me."

Screams of pain rang through Diagon Alley when his continuous firing of spells. Tom raised his wand up into the air and he hissed something. A black hurricane swept through the alley. Bellatrix sprung into action. She twirled her wand and a purple beam left her wand, impacting the hurricane. The damage had been done. The square had been wrecked and bodies were strewn all over the street. Bellatrix could count at least two dozen dead bodies.

"What do you say, Ms Black? Care to end the dance that your fiancee interrupted that day?"

Bellatrix snarled as her wand was in a blur. She was quick to take advantage of the situation. She pushed him on the back foot, but the bastard was not sweating. He had become quicker and he seemed to be finding ways to escape with all her spells.

"I see congratulations are in order, Ms Black. Bringing new life into this world is a joyful subject." He smiled.

"Quite a strong young one you do have there. Harry would be very proud, wouldn't he?" Tom questioned. He shot forth a cannon sized yellow ball towards Bellatrix.

Bellatrix let the spell travel towards her, slashing the spell exactly in between nullifying it, but in the process, she failed to see a small ball of bluish green spell race through and before Bellatrix could do anything, it hit her right on her belly.

Her breath caught in her throat as the spell impacted against her body. To her confusion, nothing happened. She looked back to the now grinning loon.

"Your Harry, had me worried when he did this to me." He began. He had stopped casting spells.

"And then, he had the audacity to write a letter."

"Let me assure you Ms Black, I am not that cruel. I don't curse and not tell you about it." He chuckled at her expression. "Fear not my dear. You will be perfectly fine. I just wanted to tell you how I felt." Bellatrix didn't take her eyes off the man, her wand gripped tightly in her hand.

Her body began to feel heavy. A tingle ran through her body and she felt a feeling of dread overtake her. She was shaken when she heard a nasal laughter.

"But I am afraid, I can't let you tell your family the good news. I am pretty sure that there is no good news anymore." It took a few minutes of silence for Bellatrix to fully comprehend what he was talking about.

A searing pain shot through her belly. Bellatrix clutched her belly in pain and dropped to her knees. Tears pooled in her eyes as the pain began gaining upon her.

"N..no…." She croaked.

She felt a coppery taste enter her mouth as she began to suffocate. "N…no….no…no…." She shook her head as she stared at Tom with pleading eyes.

"He took away everything. He took away all my supporters. He tortured me everyday. I just gave something small back." He explained.

"No hard feelings, Ms Black. In any other world, you and your family would have been my greatest ally. You would have been the best among my supporters. A witch of unmatched caliber. Alas, that wasn't to be." He tutted.

Bellatrix's breathing quickened considerably as she looked around desperately for any sign of help. "Convey my message to Harry, Ms Black. He is probably bored not having heard from me all this time." He disappeared from the spot, leaving behind a massacre and a desperate witch in tears.

Bellatrix's eyes began to contort with pain. She looked around. "H…help..p..p..please….help…" She staggered on her feet and lost consciousness.

—-&&&--

Harry raced through the corridors of St Mungo's, not waiting for the others. He didn't speak to anybody nor did he ask anybody, just racing towards the ward that held Bellatrix. When he reached his destination, he pushed through the doors.

On the bed sat a dull and patched up Bellatrix, staring out the window. She seemed to be crying as she was wiping the tears from the corner of her eyes.

"Bell?" She stiffened slightly and turned away, not looking back at Harry. Her shoulders began to shake violently. He walked behind her and placed a hand on her shoulder.

"Talk to me, Bellatrix. What is the matter?"

He heard the others enter the room. They all surrounded the two of them and waited patiently for an explanation as they noticed the condition of the girl.

The healer who had seen to Bellatrix, cleared her throat, catching their attention. She looked each of them in the eye, deciding something.

"Lord Peverell." The woman spoke directly to Harry. "What is the matter?" Harry questioned.

"I am sorry sir, but Ms Black has suffered a miscarriage."

"What?" The question left every mouth listening around the room.

"Ms Black, was three months pregnant. She had arrived here in the morning, to confirm it. I myself completed the check up and she left happily."

"Imagine my shock, when she was brought in not even an hour later, unconscious and bleeding." She continued.

"I conducted another test and I am sorry to say this, but we couldn't save the child."

Bellatrix's grip had tightened in Harry's hand and a choked sob left her mouth.

"We can't identify the spell used, Lord Peverell. But that spell is the reason that killed the baby."

Harry had gone rigid when the news had been broken to him. He felt the entire world go quiet around him. None of them mattered right now. None of the other things mattered.

His baby was murdered in cold blood. His unborn child had been killed even before it could open its eyes. Tears pooled in his eyes as the pain hit him hard face first.

He was about to be a father and it was taken away. The weight of the situation came crashing down as the tears escaped the confines of his eyes. He quickly wiped away the tears, before anybody could notice.

The healer was not done yet. "I hate to pile up on bad news after bad news, but I have to do my duty. I am sorry, but young Bellatrix will not be able to conceive once again." She informed before taking the leave of the family.

The rest of them tried to control their emotions, waiting for a reaction from the girl. Harry sat down on the bed and threw one arm around the girl.

Gut wrenching sobs reverberated around the silent room as Bellatrix's pained agony made itself known. None of the others in the family could hold back tears as they watched the girl drown herself in sorrow.

"Our baby is dead." She whispered in between sobs. "I am sorry. I am sorry." She repeated as Harry pulled the girl onto his chest. He hugged the girl close to him as another round of tears made its presence known.

"Don't, love." Harry whispered as he kissed the crown of her head. He held the girl as the two people who should have been celebrating the news of them becoming parents were shut down. The two felt alone in the world except for the presence of each other. They paid no mind to the rest of the family.

"I failed to protect my baby. I failed as a mother, even before the baby was born. I failed as your life partner. I will never be able to give you a child again. I am a failure."She sniffed into his chest. "I am a disappointment."

"Hey…hey." Harry extracted the girl from his chest. "Don't say that. You didn't do anything wrong. That child would have been blessed to have you as a mother. You would make a fantastic mother. It is just our bad luck. Guess fate did play a cruel game on us, didn't it?"

He questioned sadly.

"I can never be disappointed by you. You will never be a failure for me. We are just unlucky." Harry assured.

He looked back into each of the others who were watching the two of them.

"I am unlucky." He whispered as he closed his eyes and finally let his pain out.
