Hey everyone! Sorry for the late chapter, I kind of came up to a writer's block, but hopefully this chapter will make up for the long wait! Enjoy!
Leone could only grunt as she tried to keep a distance from the ice bitch and the young man. She knew for a fact that if she was seen, it would most certainly mean the end for her, yet she had to try to get as much information as she could to report to Najenda. She hid in the crowds of people that swarmed the general, all praising her name, and thanking her for "keeping their homes safe". Leone could only scoff at their praise, the people have all been brainwashed like sheep. Giving thanks where thanks wasn't deserved, giving praise where it wasn't rightfully supposed to be. Her eyes still couldn't help but keep trailing back down to the young man that kept a quick stride next to the general, and Leone couldn't help but feel a small pang in her chest.
"Poor boy, he must have been swayed by the propaganda like all the others here…"
Leone sighed softly and quickly removed all thoughts of compassion for him from her mind. After all, he chose his path. He chose to support this empire and to support Esdeath. There was nothing more that she could do, so there was no point in bothering to mentally dwell on it anymore. Still trying to remain in the crowd, she followed from a distance back, never once taking her eyes away from the pair.
Tatsumi couldn't help but feel a bit overwhelmed by the capital. There was just so many different things going on at once, and the pain in his chest didn't help his mental state in the slightest. There were so many different smells, so many different sounds, it was so, so different than his small village on the outskirts of the village, it seemed like an entirely different world. But despite his minor injuries, he still tried to keep up with Esdeath's pace, not wanting to seem like he was lagging behind her.
"After all, a good soldier can keep going, no matter what!"
Esdeath couldn't help but smile softly as she kept side glancing at Tatsumi, watching him struggle to keep up with her pace. The heels of her boots softly clacking against the marble tile of the street, her long strides quickly carrying her through the road. Not to mention it was easier than ever to make her way through the city, since the normal crowds of people would immediately part ways to make a path for her. She didn't mind it at all. After all, the weak should fear the strong, and that is what she is. The strong. The apex predator. And soon, she shall make Tatsumi the same. She shall make him a predator that will rival herself in her strength, maybe even one day, surpass her.
She can't help but smile at the thought, her mind racing at the thought.
"Well, the first thing we need to do once he heals is to get him a teigu. I'm sure if I ask the prime minister, he will grant one to him for me. After all, it doesn't take much for me to persuade him."
She smiles again, and before she knows it, her thoughts are interrupted by a loud voice of a young man calling out,
"Greetings General Esdeath! It is good to see you return from your mission!"
A young man, no more than 20, stands at the gate of the royal palace, standing more stiff than a board and salutes her. His heels tightly placed against each other, his spear held high, and his eyes not breaking from her face. She only sighs softly and waves at him with a flippant hand and attitude,
"Yeah, sure."
She then turns to Tatsumi who was still following close by her side and smiles as her ice blue eyes land on his own emerald green ones, and gently whispers,
"Follow me, I will take you to the medical ward. Once you heal we will discuss your future in the military, okay?"
She said these words effortlessly, and they seemed to be kind and warm, but Tatsumi was smart enough to know that he did not have a choice in the matter, so he simply nodded and smiled again, not wanting to anger his future general.
"O-Okay!" He smiled again and winced at the exerted effort, and quickly followed Esdeath to the medical ward. As they walked, they walked through the royal gardens, if it was on the way to the medical ward, or if Esdeath wanted to take the scenic route, Tatsumi will never know. But the royal palace gardens were truly something else to behold. Even though the sun set a while ago, the garden still showed its beauty in the pale moonlight. The silver beams of light shined softly on all of the flowers that were laid on the path softly danced in the night breeze, many of them swaying softly back and forth in a mesmerizing pattern. Esdeath all the while kept her hands behind her back and slowly walked in front of Tatsumi, the clack of her heels now echoing throughout the garden, and Tatsumi's footsteps softly following hers.
Unbeknownst to Tatsumi, the patrol of men that helped escort him this far left without saying a word, and before he knew it, it was just himself and Esdeath walking alone in the moonlight, slowly making their way to the medical ward. His eyes never once left Esdeath's figure, and he couldn't believe how he never noticed how attractive she was until now. Her tall yet slender frame, her long pale blue hair, and the simple yet elegant way she carried herself. He gulped softly, but the sound didn't get past Esdeath's almost superhuman senses, and she turned around to look at him, to see if he was alright, and Tatsumi couldn't help but stare wide eyed.
The moonlight, the cold, pale, silver light complimented her so well. It seemed to cause her entire body to glow, as if nature itself was emphasizing her beauty to him, and he quickly looked away, though it took all of his will power, and it left a faint blush on his cheeks.
"I-I can't be having these thoughts! She is the general! She will be my higher up soon! It just isn't right!" He thought to himself, but it still didn't stop him from blushing.
Esdeath saw his blush, and how quickly he nervously looked away and giggled softly, only to turn back around and continue to lead him, her own mind racing once more of all the different ways that she could make him belong to her.
Soon enough both of them finally made it to the medical ward, where several men were already laying on cots and being cared for by many nurses, but the moment Esdeath walked in, almost every nurse in the vicinity all stopped what they were doing and rushed over to her, all waiting for her orders.
"This man is in need of medical care. See to it that he receives it." Was all that she said before numerous hands all reached out to Tatsumi, quickly grabbing him and putting him on a bed, to which all Tatsumi had time to do was quickly cry out before the nurses all began to check his entire body, looking for signs of injury, and the best way to treat him. Esdeath chuckled softly, and walked out of the ward, planning to come back tomorrow morning to grab Tatsumi. Until then, she was going to have a talk with the prime minister, and she was going to pull every favor he owed her to make Tatsumi her direct subordinate. No matter the cost.
