EPISODE 13: YUMI STEELS HER RESOLVE! BECOME A STRONG TURBO DUELIST!
DURING THE DUEL, MINUTES BEFORE THE CRASH:
Yumi's handshakes with the vibrations of the Duel-Runner, made to mimic the feeling of riding a motorcycle, as she focused on her attack.
'I… don't want to lose!' She thought.
'NOW, DIRECT ATTACK!'
The massive sword of Blackwing slams down on Yumi
However, before the machine can even talk, Yumi loses control.
Her bike shakes, unable to pull it up, her arms shaking. Her bike tilts onto one direction, as her avatar fell off, rolling across the ground. Bic neon yellow words flashed across the screen:
'ANONYMOUS_USER_9 HAS LOST!'
Yumi's eyes open widely. She sat there, arms shaking from the shock of the bike vibrations. She didn't know what to feel. She just breathed heavily, as the man extended his hand in a handshake.
'Good game?' He asked, causing Yumi to sit up and stare, wondering why she was so exhausted in the first place.
"Lose against one, and I will know, and the agreement will be off"
'No,' She thought. That couldn't've been what stressed her out so much….
She took her opponent's hand, shaking lesser.
'Alright, you get three duels per round, be sure to hand the machine over to anyone behind you after three duels.' He said, walking out of the room.
Yumi stared in silence. 'I think I forgot why I was so stressed when I came in.' she said, mistakenly out-loud.
An orange-haired duelist in the corner of the room spoke up. 'Cool.' He said, smugly. 'If you're free now, I'm up for a duel!'
Before Yumi could reply, the screen of her machine changed into a bank blue screen with type-bar In it. The second screen turned into a keyboard.
'Go on, pick a username.' Minato told Yumi. She typed in her name, and two cards came out of a slot beside the machine.
One was a blue ID card, another was a Duel Monsters card, titled 'Junk Synchron'
The computer spoke 'EACH DUEL YOU DUEL, YOU'RE GIVEN A CARD MATCHING YOUR SKILL LEVEL!' an unknown voice came on, a gruff and aged. He sounded ever so slightly nervous to speak.
'Junk Synchron. A level 3 Tuner Effect monster… May it become the light your path shines upon!'
Minato's eyes lit up. 'THAT-THAT WAS YUEI FUDO'S VOICE! THE YUSEI FUDO!'
As he went on about the scientific and dueling achievements of the former 'King' of Neo Domino City, a iron card slot appeared on her machine. Yumi took both cards.
'You said you want to duel…?' She asked the man in the corner.
He scoffed. 'Sure. The name's Kengo!' He walked over to the now empty machine beside Yumi. 'Set your ID into the new slot to play again.'
Yumi put Junk Synchron into her pocket, breathing deeply once again 'I'm ready.'
She and Kengo swung their IDs into the machines.
'ID, SET!'
…
That night, she rode home in the Z-hunter car, tired and thinking.
"Lose against one, and I will know"
'If it wasn't that…' she thought, wondering what had stressed her out in the first place. She thought of their conversation, until it hit her.
"And as for your grandmother, we can make it so that she thinks you are still at school, helping out for an upcoming event…"
That's it. She struck up, remembering. If their deal was off, wouldn't her grandma be informed about what she was doing after school? Would the boss do that?
'It seems that masked man weren't Z-hunters.' Minato said, aloud, almost as if he recognised Yumi's fear.
Yumi under stood what he said, and nodded nervously. As she got off for her house, her grandmother stood outside, and led her in.
'You've better not have caused any trouble for the school' she said, as Yumi sat down and ate the lone steak on a plate, gone cold from waiting. 'I'm going to bed, don't bother me.'
Her grandma left, leaving Yumi alone, sitting beside her schoolbag, as she finished the cold steak.
'She doesn't know' she thought, confidence returning in the slightest
…
The next day, once school had ended, Yumi and Minato were led back to the institute, and entered the same room, of which Kengo was already at a bike, waiting for a player.
'Yumi? Didn't expect you to come back today!'
Yumi sat herself down on the machine. 'Ready to lose again?' She said, smugly.
Kengo smiled wide, as they both loaded their IDS into the machine.
'ID, SET!'
The machine loaded up their IDs, displaying and reading out their stats:
'USERNAME: TAI-OH! CURRENT SCORE: 85000! USERNAME: YUMI_HITO! CURRENT SCORE: 80000'
The arena appeared, as both their avatars boarded their bikes.
'3'
'2'
'1'
'DUEL!'
Tai-Oh goes first.
'I summon, Ruffian Railcar!'
A red train, only one cart in size, appeared, sailing upon the air beside the two of them, on floating rails.
'Now that I've Normal Summoned an Earth monster, I can SPECIAL SUMMON: HEAVY FREIGHT TRAIN DERRICRANE!'
A massive yellow train, tow carts long this time, soared on floating tracks beside the red train.'
'It's attack is halved, however, I get to special summon SUPER EXPRESS BULLET TRAIN!'
A black and sleek Sci-fi Bullet train appeared, boasting Jet engines on their sides.
'NOW, I'LL OVERLAY FREIGHT AND BULLET!'
The two swirled into a shiny yellow galaxy
'XYZS SUMMON! COME FORTH, SUPERDREAGNTNOUGHT RAIL CANNON GUSTAV MAX!'
Out of the nebula, a massive, fast-moving tank with appeared, its long cannon sheathed. Two glowing rings surrounded it
'I detach a material from it to dal you 2000 damage!'
One of the rings faded, as Yumi flinched and her bikes swivelled behind Kengo
'YUMI_HITO'S life points are now at 6000!'
Yumi draws, as a speed counter is added onto their bikes.
'I sacrifice a Magistus card from the hand to SPECIAL SUMMON: CROWLEY, THE MAGISTUS OF GRIMORES!'
The robed magician appears, as Yumi reveals a spell card.
'SPEED SPELL: ANGEL BATON! I DISCARD A CARD FROM MY HAND TO DRAW TWO CARDS!'
She draws the cards, discarding her other action spell.
'NOW, I SUMMON ZOROA: THE MAGISTUS OF FLAMES!'
The flaming magician appeared, as he immediately tuned with Crowley.
'SHINING STARS, CREATE A PATH THAT BURNS THROUGHT HE DEEPEST OF DARKNESS! LET'S LIGHT 'M' UP!'
The light emerged from the circles, and out from them, Zoroa.
'SYNCHRO SUMMON! ZOROA, THE MAGISTUS CONFLRANGANT CALAMITY!'
'Now I activate his effect, equipping him with Aiwass, the Magistus spell Spirit!'
The staff floated into Zoroa's hand, as Yumi began her attack.
'GO! FLAMES OF ULTIATUM!'
The flame of Zoroa and Aiwass hit the machine, destroying it as Kengo's bike slid beside Yumi's. She sped up.
'TAI-OH'S Life points are now at 7100!'
'I'LL END MY TURN!'
Another speed counter is added, As Kengo draws.
'Tch, I'll summon: Flying Pegasus Railroad Stampede!'
A small train, led by a iron horse, a Knight riding upon it, appeared.
'Now, I can special summon GUSTAV MAX back, in defense position!'
The tank returned, glowing blue.
'I ACTIVATE THE EFFECT OF A CARD IN MY EXTRA DECK, USING GUSTAV MAX AS AN OVERLAY UNIT, SUMMONING: SUPERDREADNOUGHT RAIL CANNON JUGGERNAOUT LIEBE!'
The tank faded in, then out. A massive battleship with a cannon attached to it appeared, a glowing ring appearing above it, quickly disappearing
'I'VE DISCARDED A MATERIAL, NOW ITS ATTACK IS 6000! ATTACK ZOROA!'
The massive machine went behind Zoroa, firing away a missile destroying him as Yumi's bike began to swivel.
'YUMI_HITO'S life points are now at 3900!'
Yumi draws, struggling to keep her motorcycle up.
'I can work with this!' she thought 'I'll… Summon Rilliona, the Magistus of Verre, and use Zoroa's effect in the graveyard, to summon him out using her!'
Zoroa emerges from a massive circle, the glass magician fading.
'I'll use Crowley effect to banish himself and equip Aiwass from the graveyard to him, and end my turn!'
Kengo draws, confident as ever.
'I'll win this time!' They both hit a sharp drift, as Yumi's bike wobbles.
'I… don't want it to end here! I won't lose!'
Yumi, in real life, secretly slid a card from her hand into the graveyard, activating its effect before Kengo's Main Phase ends.
'I can only activate this card during my opponent's main phase' she thought. 'I'm going to regret surprising him, but I need him to ignore his monster's attack points! Please, come on…'
Their bikes continued racing, as if Kengo was stalling for time. Kengo drove to Yumi's side.
'You have something planned? Cause it's not gonna work against me!'
'We'll see about that... Come at me!' She teased, remembering Mirai's taunting. 'I can't say I didn't learn anything from the Memorial Duel… I won't taunt someone evilly… not like him...'
'Alright! ATTACK, SUPERDREADNOUGHT RAIL CANNON JUGGERNAOUT LIEBE!'
The cannon lit up and fired at Zoroa…
Only for Zoroa to catch its missile, tossing it back as Kengo felt the drawbacks.
'What!?' Kengo questioned, looking back at Yumi. 'You sly fox!' He said, smiling. 'Way to use that Effect Veiler!'
Yumi remembered her close duel with him the previous day, where winning had given her Effect Veiler, a young angel-like beign which could negate effect when sent to the graveyard. Yumi had sent it there to negate the monster's attack-boosting effect.
'I-I'm sorry!' She yelled over the engines' roar.
Kengo smiled 'Don't worry 'bout it! I do that sometimes too! Cool, aint' it!?'
Yumi draws, feeling strangely guilty as she attacked his remaining monster with Zoroa.
'TAI-OH'S Life points are now at 4000!' The computer yelled.
Kengo drew, looking at his hand. 'I'M JUST GETTING STARTED!'
