Getting the house done was moving along rather well, but one room that was still left untouched was Adam's dad's office. Kim wanted to be able to work in there, but being with Adam all the time, it made it hard for her to be able to do anything. On top of all that, the Chicago crime rate was not helping them to find the time to finish much of anything. They climbed to intelligence one morning and Adam went directly towards the coffee machine without so much as a hello to the rest of the unit.

"What's wrong with him? You two went at it all night long again?" Jay ribbed Kim.

"I wish!" She huffed under everyone's snorts of laughter. "Short nights, working to get the house ready as soon as possible." She slumped in her chair.

"How's that going?" Antonio leaned against her desk.

"Everything else is going along just fine, I just, I'm trying to get Adam out of the house to be able to work in peace, but that doesn't seem to be working in my favour." She grumbled under her breath so Adam couldn't hear.

"We've got this." Antonio winked at her and sent a silent ask to the rest of the boys in the unit.

"I'll help too." Hailey offered.

"I appreciate the help Hailey, but this is something that I need to do by myself."

"Okay." She smiled back at her. "But I'm there if you change your mind." Kim nodded and smiled

"So, what's the plan?" Kim whispered harshly to Antonio.

"Just leave it to me Burgess and I'll give you all the details later." Antonio smiled before returning to his own desk.

"We just caught a case, let's go." Voight came out of his office just as Adam returned with a cup of coffee.

They returned to the bullpen and right to work. Kim wasn't sure how much trouble she would get to have Adam leave the house so she could get a jump on remodeling his dad's office. She was also a bit scared of his actual reaction. She hadn't told him about her project and he hadn't mentioned even a whisper about that room since they had talked in the kitchen two weeks prior. The only person who knew now was the team because they were her only way to keep Adam out of the house while she attempted to get it done.

The case had been another long one and on weeks like the last one, Kim missed the beat where the worse that could happen, was forced overtime from Platt. All she wanted now was to go home with Adam, down some wine and let him rub the knots out of her back.

"Alright everyone, head home for the weekend, commander is giving us a couple of days to recover."

"Never thought I'd see that day." Adam huffed. He was as done with the last weeks as the rest of the week.

"Speaking of week-ends." Antonio started. "How about just us boys at my parents cabin with some cold ones?"

"I'm down for that." Both Jay and Kevin agreed together, both Kim and Hailey shaking their heads with a laugh.

"I dunno, I'm pretty beat." Adam stretched.

"Oh no, you ain't getting out of that one bro." Kev wasn't going to take no for an answer. "Burgess needs a break from your sorry ass so you are coming with us."

"Fine, if you're going to strong arm me, I'll go."

"It'll be fun." Jay clapped his hands together as everyone stood.

"We leave from my place bright and early tomorrow morning." Antonio said.

"I'll make sure he's ready tonight." Kim chuckled as Adam slipped an arm around her shoulders.

"See you two lovebirds in the morning." He threw Jay and Hailey over his shoulder, the two suddenly dead quiet, making him chuckle.

Making Adam's duffle bag when they got home didn't take very long and they were both able to relax with a beer before having to go to bed, departure time being eight the next morning

Adam grumbled all the way to Antonio's, claiming it was an ungodly hour to be awake on a Saturday, Kim chuckling from the driver's seat. The plan was to drop him off and go straight for the house. They were the last to arrive as Jay and Kevin were stuffing their bags in the trunk of Antonio's car.

"Ready to get this show on the road?" Antonio called after Adam was done putting his bag with the others.

"Hell yeah." Kevin hollered.

"We'll see you in two days." Jay leaned down and kissed Hailey, everyone else cheering at the official announcement they had all been waiting for.

"Don't have too much fun without us darlin'." Adam kissed Kim.

"We should be just fine." She chuckled. "You boys have fun." The girls watched them drive off.

"It was about time." Kim bumped her hip against Hailey's

"It's new, we're taking it slow."

"Whatever you say."

"Get out of here." Hailey shoved her. "I'll call you later for dinner plans."

"Perfect." Kim smiled before getting back into her car and driving towards the house.

Kim looked around the office, both hands on her hips. She had exactly two days to set everything up. She wanted to give the office a fresh coat of paint to begin with, so she set to move all the furniture out of the space. She already knew the colour she wanted and one trip to the hardware store would be enough for everything she needed, the rest, she had bought and hid it at Kevin's until she could retrieve it. Antonio had promised her that he would text her when they were on their way back to make sure she was done before they got back into town. With a lock of the door and music in her ears, Kim went about putting the first coat of paint. She had kept it simple with a light grey to make the room look more spacious. The furniture would stay the same because she knew how much it meant to Adam. Kim stopped only to eat, keeping her eye on the prize. She couldn't afford to not be done by the time the boys came back. By the time evening hit, Kim was done with the paint and the furniture was all in its rightful place. Hailey had offered a late dinner date at her place and Kim found herself knocking on her front door at 8:30.

"Hey, glad you could make it. How did it go?"

"So far so good. I managed to get the paint done and tomorrow I'll put the finishing touches. I should have enough time to get everything done by the time the guys get back."

"Nervous?" She poured her a glass of red wine.

"A little. I hope he likes it." She downed half of it. "It's been hard for him to go through the things in that room and I hope that he doesn't think that I've overstepped by doing it for him."

"Having you by his side through all of this has been good for him, everyone in the bullpen can see it and he trusts you with everything in him, he'll be happy I'm sure of it."

"Thanks." She smiled back at her. "I wonder how the boys are faring."

"Can't believe we're missing that. Kevin in the wilderness?" She chuckled. "You have to admit that it's funny."

"Thank god Antonio and Jay are there no doubt." They chuckled as they continued with their evening.

"What have you guys planned exactly?" Adam whined as they drove to their destination without an idea of where they were heading.

"No plan, just a week-end and no girls." Jay assured him from the front.

"I don't need a week-end without Kim." He chuckled. "I'm perfectly fine when I'm with her.

"Come on Ruz. When was the last time we hung out, just us boys, with some beer and no case to ruin a perfectly good weekend?" Kevin argued.

"Seems like forever ago."

"Exactly so sit back and just enjoy it." Kevin clapped his shoulder. "This is going to be fun." The ride was filled with chatter, ribbing Jay of his relationship with Hailey, wondering when Kevin would get a girl of his own and soon enough, Antonio stopped his car in front of a cabin overlooking the lake. Everyone got out and took in the view.

"Damn Antonio, you've been holding out of us bro." Kevin whistled between his teeth.

"How come you've never mentioned this place in all the years we've known each other?" Jay eyed Antonio with a frown.

"Never came up." He shrugged.

"Now you know we'll have to come up with the girls too right?"

"First thing's first. Today it's just us boys. Put everything in the cabin and we meet out back for lunch and a beer." The cabin was cozy but had enough rooms for everyone so they all stored their things away and converged towards the back deck where Antonio had brought out food to make burgers. Jay passed beers around and smiled.

"To no cases and no girls." He raised his bottle.

"No case and no girls." Adam repeated, shaking his head with a smile. He didn't believe Halstead one bit about that, remembering how often he wanted to put his hands on Kim when they started dating but he went along with it. The boys ate and hung out, not doing much of anything but kick back and share stories for the rest of the day.

Kim was back at the house first thing the following morning. She still had a lot to do in the office, but she also to do a few things in the house if she had time to get it done. She inspected her handiwork and started putting all the furniture back in its rightful place. She had gotten frames for the pictures that she had found of Adam and his dad or clippings that she had fished out of the cabinet. She proceeded in setting them up properly on the wall over the desk and took a step back to admire her handiwork. The cabinet was behind her on the other wall and there was a vintage two seat couch on the other wall, finishing up the space. The last touches were on the desk itself. The folded flag was encased in a wooden display like the one that was sitting in Voight's office at the 21st, dead in the center of the desk. Next to it was his badge, something that Platt had pulled strings to get him. Last, she put a set of two picture frames. One was a young Adam wearing his dad's vest, his front teeth not entirely out and his dad's laugh at his son's exuberance on display. The second was a picture she had found while cleaning up of Adam, about a month or so before his father's passing, the two of them sharing a laugh and a beer in the house's backyard. She didn't know who had taken it but she was glad all the same. She looked around and made sure she wasn't missing anything before leaving the room and closing the door behind her. She texted Hailey for a late lunch and to ask if she would mind helping her with the rest of the things she wanted to get done before the guys made it back and thirty minutes later, she was showing up with some take-out

"So, everything is done?" She gestured towards the closed office door.

"Yeah." She sighed.

"Still nervous about it?"

"A little bit." She smiled. "Nothing I can do about it now. How about we talk about you and Jay instead?" It sent a blush to Hailey's cheeks.

"It happened last night."

"You totally had sex last night." Kim squealed, changing the pink of Hailey's cheeks to red.

"We talked, about us, what it means for Intelligence, how we move forward."

"And there was the sex." Hailey couldn't help but laugh at Kim's excitement for them.

"So we decided to just announce it this morning since you know, Voight and Platt can see pretty much anything and we were pretty sure you guys knew something was going on."

"Oh, we definitely knew."

"Okay, let me have it, who bet what on this?"

"No bets, none official anyways."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"Adam owes me a bottle of red." Hailey snorted. "I said Halstead would be the one to out you first."

"Adam really thought I would break first?"

"Yeah, he really passionate about it too." Kim cackled.

"Good to know." They finished eating lunch and went about getting the rest ready. Kim set the bags in the master bedroom and they proceeded in getting the bathroom ready, at least that would be done. It was around seven when the front door opened, revealing Adam and Jay.

"You're back." Kim had her arms around Adam's neck in a second, her lips on his.

"We figured the two of you would be here." He kissed her back.

"You boys have fun?" Hailey asked Jay as they shared a shyer hello.

"Too much beer and good food, nice way to kick it back."

"Glad you boys had fun." Kim chimed in, pulling herself out of Adam's hold.

"What have you girls been up to?"

"Not much, dinner, wine and lunch today." Hailey shrugged.

"We're gone two days and you're partying solo?" Adam tried to pull Kim back to him but she moved out of his reach with a chuckle.

"Wouldn't you like to know?"

"How about we get out of your hair." Hailey pulled Jay by the hip.

"Aww come on, stay for dinner." Adam objected, wanting to spend a bit more time with his friends and new couple.

"We would love to but we already have plans." Hailey and Kim traded a look while Jay had a no we don't one written all over his face. "Rain check?"

"Absolutely." Kim agreed before Hailey pulled Jay out the door, leaving the two of them alone.

"That was weird." Adam was facing the door where Hailey and Jay had disappeared behind.

"Huh, I didn't notice." That made Adam turn and look at her suspiciously.

"Kim, what is going on?" He walked slowly towards her.

"Nothing." She said, her nerves getting the best of her with Adam's eyes on her like that.

"Hey." He extended his hand to her, seeing the quick look of panic in her eyes. "It's okay, what's wrong?"

"Nothing is wrong but there is something." She swallowed slowly and closed her eyes, trying to calm her heart.

"Whatever it is, I've got you." He pulled her into him and kissed the top of her head.

"So, this boys week-end, it was a last minute plan from Antonio."

"Yeah, I know." He pulled away from her to look in her eyes. "I was in the bullpen with everyone else."

"Yeah, but he did it at my request."

"Kim, I'm fine." He sighed. Things were going well for them right now and he was in a better head space.

"I know that but I'm the one who needed you to be out of town, I needed to be alone to do it."

"Kim, darlin' you are worrying me."

"Promise me you won't hate me."

"Hey, where is this coming from?"

"I just, I had this idea." She stammered, having all the trouble in the world to get the words out. "And I thought I would surprise you with it."

"Well you know I like surprises." He smirked.

"I hope you like this one." She took a full breath before whispering. "Close your eyes." Adam did as he was told and whispered back.

"I trust you." She leaned up and kissed him lightly, taking his hand in hers and leading him towards the closed office. She took another deep breath and opened the door, pulling him through the threshold.

"You can open them now." She stood at his side, their fingers linked together as he opened them, her breath now stuck in her throat.

"Kim?" His voice caught with emotion.

"I know that you are still having a hard time coming in this room and I wanted to fix it up so it might take a weight off you." He pulled his hand away from Kim's and took a step forward. "Fix it so it could be a place where it doesn't hurt so much anymore to be in here."

"You did all of this?" He looked back at her with tears in his eyes.

"Yeah. I hope I didn't overstep, I just thought."

"It's perfect." He interrupted her, taking her hand in his and running his thumb over her knuckles. "Thank you." He leaned into her, the two now a breath apart. "I love you." He cupped her cheeks, pressing his lips to hers. He pressed his body into hers as their tongues met, Kim emitting a soft moan as he snaked his arm around her waist, under her shirt.

"I love you too." She whispered back as they parted.

"Show me?" She nodded and pulled him with her, letting him sit in the office chair, letting him pull her into his lap. They looked at all the frames on the wall and Adam was surprised at some of the things that she had found when she looked more thoroughly through the things in the cabinet. "I forgot about this one." He took the double frame in his hands.

"The two of you look happy." She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed his temple.

"We were. But you know what's missing?" She hummed a response. "You and me."

"There's plenty of time for that, a lifetime even."

"I can't wait to start that lifetime with you in this house." They kissed again. "Now that this office is done, are we ready to move in here? Are you ready?"

"I'm ready when you are baby." She smiled at him.

"Then we're ready." He pushed a strand of hair behind her ear and kissed her. They stayed a few minutes more in the house before they returned to Kim's place where Adam showed her how much he had missed her over the week-end.

A/N: So finally we have an upstead confirmation and some Kim Hailey friendship in there because the writers robbed us of that on the show. Hope you guys liked it and you know what to do if you have a few seconds before you go - Sarra
