Chapter 13: Death of the King

I started my patrol with Mufasa this morning. It was a quiet and peaceful morning. Though I am not exactly cheerful this morning because I am grounded.

"You doing okay there, Lana?" Mufasa asked. "Why would I be okay? Mom grounded me for a week." I said. "You know we're doing this for your own good, Lana. We just want you to be safe. I don't want you getting hurt." Mufasa said. "I know," I said with a sigh. It was silent for some more time until Zazu spoke up.

"Oh, look sire. The herd is on the move." Zazu said. "What?" I said, confused. "Odd..." Mufasa said, also confused. Just then, Scar franticly ran up to us. He gasped for breath.

"Mufasa, quick! Stampede in the gorge... Simba's down there!" Scar cried. "Simba!" Mufasa and I cried. Oh no.

"Lana, Scar, and I will deal with this. Go back home!" Mufasa said. "But I can help!" I protested. "No! Zazu, take her home." Mufasa ordered. "Yes, sire. Come along, princess." Zazu said. I sighed and began to follow Zazu home as Mufasa and Scar took off running. I couldn't just stand by and do nothing, so I ran after my brothers.

"And where do you think you're going, missy?" Zazu said. "Where else? To help Simba!" I shouted and continued running. Zazu or Mufasa was not gonna stop me from helping.

"But Lana!" Zazu cried and flew after me. We got to the gorge, and I found my brothers franticly looking for Simba. Zazu dived down in the gorge. Mufasa looked angry when he saw me.

"Lana? What are you doing here? Go back home!" Mufasa shouted. "I came to help and you're not stopping me!" I shouted. Meanwhile, Simba was dangling from a tree branch.

"Zazu, help me!" Simba cried. "Your father is on the way! Hold on!" Zazu shouted. "Hurry!" Simba cried. Zazu flew back to Mufasa, Scar, and I.

"There! There, on that tree!" Zazu shouted, pointing to the tree branch. "Hold on, Simba!" Mufasa shouted. The branch Simba was holding onto broke a bit. "Dad!" Simba cried. Mufasa ran towards Simba. I followed Mufasa into the gorge.

"Oh, Scar this is awful! What'll we do? What'll we do? I'll go back for help, that's what I'll do!" Zazu said. Before Zazu could say anything else, Scar hit him with his paw, causing him to smack into the wall. Zazu was knocked out cold. Mufasa and I kept running to where Simba is. Mufasa turned around and ran towards Simba again. I was already at the tree. I held out my hand.

"Simba, take my hand!" I shouted. Simba reached out his paw for my hand. "I can't reach you, Aunt Lana!" Simba cried. "Hang on!" I shouted. Mufasa was pushed back by the wildebeests. As I was climbing the tree, a wildebeest charged towards us and broke the branch, causing us to go flying in the air. Mufasa jumped up and caught Simba with his mouth. Mufasa caught me with his paw and threw me onto my back. I held onto Mufasa's mane tightly as he ran.

As he was running, a wildebeest bumped into Mufasa, causing him to fall and drop Simba out of my mouth. I held onto Mufasa as he got up and ran towards Simba. Mufasa picked up Simba and put Simba on a ledge of a rock. Mufasa helped me onto the ledge.

"Stay here, it'll be okay." Mufasa said. Just then, Mufasa was grabbed by the wildebeest and was pulled into the stampede.

"Dad!" Simba cried. "Mufasa!" I cried. Simba and I franticly looked for Mufasa. Suddenly, Mufasa jumped up from the stampede and landed on the wall of the cliff. Mufasa climbed up the cliff. Simba climbed up the rocks to get a better look.

"Simba!" I cried and followed him. Mufasa got to the top of the cliff. Scar was watching him, with an emotionless expression on his face. Mufasa slipped and was struggling to reach the top of the cliff and get to safety.

"Scar. Brother, help me." Mufasa pleaded. Scar roared and grabbed Mufasa's claws. Mufasa roared in pain. Scar leaned into Mufasa.

"Long live the king." Scar said. Scar threw Mufasa off of the cliff. Mufasa screamed as he fell to his death. Simba and I watched with horror.

"No!" We screamed loudly. When the wildebeests cleared up, Simba and I ran down into the gorge. Simba coughed a few times.

"Dad!" Simba called. "Mufasa?" I called. Simba and I ran deeper into the gorge. We heard some rustling.

"Dad?" Simba said hopefully. But it was just a wildebeest. Smoke cleared up and we saw Mufasa's lifeless body lying on the ground. Simba and I ran up to Mufasa. Simba and I walked around Mufasa's body.

"Dad? Dad, come on. You gotta get up. Dad. We gotta go home." Simba said as he shook Mufasa. "Come on Mufasa, get up," I said, also shaking Mufasa. I had tears forming in my eyes. Simba bit on his ear to try and wake him up. Simba ran farther down a bit.

"HELP! SOMEBODY! Anybody! Help!" Simba cried. Simba had tears streaming down his face and he began to cry. I began to cry also. My brother is dead. Simba cuddled up against Mufasa's paw. I laid my head against Mufasa's mane and continued to cry. I saw Scar walking up to us. Simba looked at him.

"Simba. What have you done?" Scar said. Simba got up. "There were wildebeests and he tried to save me. It was an accident; I didn't mean for it to happen." Simba sobbed. "Of course. Of course, you didn't. No one... ever means for these things to happen. But the king is dead." Scar said and pulled Simba and I into a 'hug'. "And if it weren't for you, he'd still be alive. Oh, what will your mother think?" Scar said.

"What am I gonna do?" Simba asked sadly. "Run away, Simba. Run. Run away and never return." Scar said. Simba ran away, not looking back. The trio hyenas, Banzi, Shenzi, and Ed walked up to Scar.

"Scar?" I said, nervously. "Kill him." Scar ordered. The hyenas ran after Simba.

"Scar! How can you be so cruel?!" I cried, with tears in my eyes. Scar hits me. Scar then grabs me with his arm, holding me in a tight grip.

"Listen. If you dare tell anyone I killed Simba and Mufasa, then I will kill you. Understood?" Scar said and drew his claws out. I can tell Scar was serious about killing me, so I nodded.

"Good. Now come on, let's go back home. Mom must be worried." Scar said with a smirk. Scar picked me up by the scruff of my neck and carried me to Pride Rock. When we got home, Scar sets me down. Everyone looked worried when they saw me.

"Lana! What happened? Are you okay?" Uru said with concern. "Lana... where are Mufasa and Simba?" Sarabi asked me. I just stayed silent. It was dark outside. Scar sat up in front of the pride. Scar made his announcement.

"Mufasa's death is a terrible tragedy. But to lose Simba, who had barely begun to live. For me, it is a deep, personal loss." Scar said. We all put our heads down. Sarabi and Nala had tears streaming down their faces. Zazu put a wing on Sarabi's paw to comfort her. I began to cry again. Uru pulled me into a hug.

"So it is with a heavy heart that I assume the throne. Yet out of the ashes we shall rise to great the dawning of a new era." Scar said. As Scar was speaking, hyenas began walking into Pride Rock. We all gasped with horror.

"In which Lion and hyena come together in a great and glorious future." Scar said.

This is bad. Scar and the hyenas have taken over Pride Rock.
