Chapter 11 : Minamoto Castle Arc I – Preparation
The breakfast for most part was very memorable for each side. Getting a chance to get to know more about them and even remanence some events that laughter echoed around them. For the Masters, both were happy for all of them and would gladly allow them to have their bonding as long as they don't forget the mission.
Once breakfast was finished, everyone went to each of their duty while those who had connection with Touken Danshi began their training under the Servants. Gudao meanwhile was busy preparing the rations for the upcoming war and feeling bad about doing nothing, Saniwa offered to help and the assistance was openly accepted.
It was afternoon before lunch when Gudao and Saniwa decided to check their respective Servants and Touken Danshi, so as quiet as possible they peek to each of their chosen training field.
The first visit was under Oda Nobunaga, Oda Nobukatsu and Mori Nagayoshi with Namazou Toushirou, Souza Samonji, Heshikiri Hasebe, Fudou Yukimitsu, Yagen Toushirou, Shokudaikiri Mitsutada and Tsurumaru Kuninaga. One word could only describe the current situation, horrific. Gudao and Saniwa silently tremble as they watch how Nobunaga grinned devilishly with the amused Mori Nagayoshi and the trembling Nobukatsu demands them to stand up and continue attacking them despite there's a none stop raining bullets all around them. Without a choice, the Touken Danshi were forced to keep running around to either dodge the bullets coming to them or sliced them with their own sword to protect themselves from harm. Heshikiri Hasebe without hesitation started shouting insults towards her, resulting him to be demolished without mercy, thankfully he's not killed yet.
"As expected of Nobu, seriously playing herself as a demon lord of Japan and without mercy at that." Gudao silently commented. Saniwa slowly nodded in agreement before turning to him in concern, "Will they be alright?"
"Let's hope so." Gudao answered in uncertainty.
Not wanting to get in their way, the two silently leave. Their next destination was another training field under Hijikata Toshizou, Okita Souji and Okita Souji Alter with Izuminokami Kanesada, Horikawa Kunihiro, Yamatonokami Yasusada and Kashuu Kiyomitsu. Taking a peek on their training, it turns out to be a two vs two spar, in Hijikata's case its two vs one. The spar between Okita and Alter and Yamatonokami Yasusada and Kashuu Kiyomitsu can be considered as one side battle like Nobunaga but unlike her, there are words of encouragement and correction to their stance. They even saw how Hijikata showed a new technique that he had acquired after becoming a Servant and taught it to those two who looked really happy to learn other him.
Seeing this scene made both Masters smile to each other in relief, knowing they would be alright as such they decided to leave to check the others.
On the large training field where all foot samurais were busy with their trainings, Gudao and Saniwa walked in ease, greeting them and giving encouraging words towards the samurais who were walking hard for their training until they reached the location where they saw Ushiwakamaru, Benkei, Iwatooshi and Imanotsurugi. Looking at the scene, Imanotsurugi looked really excited and happy as he conversed with Ushiwakamaru. Eavesdropping them, they learned that their conversation was more about Ushiwakamaru's history and military tactics. On the other hand, Benkei and Iwatooshi were assisting the samurais about their stance and their hold in spear, bow and sword.
They're not doing training unlike the others but both Masters knows that getting knowledge was important, as such they quietly left the field.
Their next destination was outside the village and before they could go however, Sasaki Kojiro called them.
"Master! Where are you heading?" Kojiro questioned as he approached them. Gudao smiled a little, "Kojiro-san, we're heading towards the village to check Ryouma-san and the others."
Kojiro could not help but sigh, little frustrated. "I understand that Master but may I please ask why are you both heading towards the village without any Servant escorting you?"
"Huh… You are quite protected Gudao." Saniwa commented with a tease while Gudao gave a deadpan expression, "You know more than anyone that you too are protected. The reason none of them are with us is because you are able to give them assignments, including Kikkou Sadamune-san."
"Having a lot of overprotective Touken Danshi can be tiring sometime, give me a break." Saniwa said and before Gudao could resort back, Kojiro made a loud clearing sound to get their attention. When they finally stopped and received their attention, Kojiro could not help but sigh loudly and declared, "Both of you are going to the village, right? I'll accompany both of you so please don't ever do this again."
Gudao could not help but laugh a little before giving a small smile, "Thanks Kojiro-san and sorry for the trouble."
"Its nothing Master." Kojiro said with a tired smile before asking them, "You're heading off to check on Sakamoto-san and the others, correct? Do you need something?"
"Oh, nothing like that Sasaki-san. We just want to see how they were doing." Saniwa explained, "We already checked the group that remained here. All that's left are those who left the castle to do their own training and according to Chacha-san the rest of the group left the castle to do their training there while Sakamoto-san and Oryou-san seems to have some business as such he dragged Okada-san, Mutsunokami and Hizen with them."
"I understand, allow me to guide you to their location." Kojiro offered and the two accepted.
The three left the castle head off to the village.
Thankfully they arrived the village safely and immediately the group went to look for them until they finally found them. Instead of approaching them, they quietly get closed to them to hear their loud conversation. Apparently Oryou was having fun teasing Izou who was already pissed and very much ready to slice her but the rest were blocking his way. It was a funny scene if there's anything to comment in scene.
"Does Oryou-san love to tease Okada-san?" Saniwa asked out of curiosity. Kojiro and Gudao nodded in union as they answer, "Yes."
"Izou-san is quick to react when someone made a comment about him." Gudao reasoned, Kojiro concluded. "As such, Oryou-san never hesitate to annoy him."
"I see… from this scene alone, are they close?" Saniwa asked and Gudao nodded, "They are although Izou-san will surely deny it."
Saniwa nodded in understanding before suggesting to move on before they got discovered. The two agreed so their next stop was the mountain area. Arriving on the specific area, they saw Nagao Kagetora and Hozoin Inshun with Gotokai, Azuki Nagamitsu and Sanchoumou doing spar while riding on their own horses. In this spar, it seems Inshun was with the side of the Touken Danshi while they're against Kagetora alone and despite the odds against her, she's still able to bring them all down.
"I overheard this from Inshun-san but he had gotten interested on how he will fair if he's in battle while riding a horse, as such he asked Nagao-san for guidance." Kojiro explained to the wondering Gudao who had a troubling face.
Understanding the reason, Gudao turned to Kojiro and questioned. "Do you know why he started thinking that?"
Kojiro hummed for a moment before answering his question, "This is just a speculation of mine Master, but Inshun-san deeply care about you so in case a scenario requires him to fight against any enemies while protecting you and riding a horse, he would like to at least get a training and have a feel about it so he may never fail you."
Gudao could not help but sigh, "You guys are too protective of me."
"You are our Master, it is natural." Kojiro said with a smile before turning to Saniwa, "Aren't the Touken Danshi same to you as well Saniwa?"
"Yes, they are to the point sometimes it's terrifying." Saniwa answered while sweating before turning to Gudao, "But I don't hate it, same to you too, right?"
"Yup." Gudao said with complete agreement.
The group quietly watched their spar until they reached the conclusion, Nagao won. The loosing team lament on their lost and Nagao took that chance to tell them what they did wrong and advice about how to improve them. The Touken Danshi deeply listened to her advice while Inshun hummed as he listened.
Knowing they would be okay, the group decided to head off to check the last group. On the other side of the mountain, it was quite peaceful, something that made Gudao and Kojiro warry. Saniwa who has no idea remained calm as he looked around for the last group.
"This is strange, did they change location?" Gudao could no longer help himself but asked Kojiro in worry. Kojiro was not able to give an assurance expression as he too wasn't sure. Finally noticing their uneasiness, Saniwa asked. "Is there something wrong?"
"It's too peaceful, too quiet Saniwa!" Gudao pointed out, as if he's expecting him to realize it by that alone. As expected, Saniwa as confuse. "Yeah, its peaceful, is it wrong?"
"Yes." Gudao answered in serious expression and serious tone. Saniwa sweat drop before turning to Kojiro, silently asking him what's going on. Kojiro noticed this and smiled weakly before explaining for him, "It's understandable as you have not known… The thing here is that when comes to training, the words peaceful and quiet are never part of the environment when Raikou-san is involved. That's why we could not help but be warry."
"I see…" Saniwa was the only word he could say until they heard a destructive sound not too far from them. This really surprised Saniwa while Gudao's warry expression turned to a bright smile. "Oh, they're here." Is his comment.
Before Saniwa could complain about his lack of danger, another destructive sound was heard and this time it's very close to them. Without warning, Kojiro wrapped his arms to both boys and dashed on the side as fast as possible. Thanks to this action that they barely dodge a tree that fell to the location where they stood a while ago.
Saniwa was frozen shock, everything happened too fast. What happened? Is there an enemy?
They heard a giggling female and made a sing-a-long tone, "Running away is no good boys~ Come and be disciplined by mom~"
"WHA!"
"ANIJA!"
Another destructive noise happened. That's when they saw the glimpse of Higekiri and Hizamaru running away in panic and fear while Raikou chased after them, blade in hand and truly happy for some reason. Just witnessing another swing from Raikou's sword, the tree that was hit was cleanly cut, showing the reason of trees falling down was her doing.
Once they're out of sight, Saniwa finally voiced his disbelief. "What the heck was that!?"
"Raikou-san's Spartacus training regimen as we jokingly called it." Gudao answered, relief clearly shows to his expression after seeing them. "Kintoki-san kept complaining about how her training was too much and may end up dying if not controlled. Oh! Raikou-san loves acting like a mother and disciplinary head for Servants. She usually scolds Kiyohime and Serenity for always sneaking in my room, or worst when I bath." Gudao's last comment made him shiver in fear, not from her but to the other two mentioned Servants.
Saniwa on the other hand could not help but looked at him weirdly. 'Is this normal for him? Wait, Kiyohime and Serenity? I don't know about Serenity but I felt like I had heard about Kiyohime before, when was it? And they sneak to his room and even in bath…! Wait! Does this mean… Gudao is famous to females!?' Saniwa thought in despair, especially knowing the fact that all Touken Danshi were all male, as such no female exist in Honmaru.
"Master, do we follow them?" Kojiro asked Gudao. He thought for a moment before turning to Saniwa who's still in despair and asked, "Saniwa I'm thinking about returning now since we're done confirming their training, how about you?"
"I will… return as well…" Saniwa answered in despair. Gudao sweat drop, "Are you okay Saniwa?"
"Yeah… just deeply envy you stupid bastard." Saniwa's weak answer.
"Eh?" Was the only word Gudao could provide while Kojiro could only look the two of them with exaggeration.
Later, they finally arrived back at the castle. It was Senji Muramasa who greeted them.
"Yo! Welcome back Master, Kojiro and Saniwa. Am I correct to say that your done with inspecting everyone's training?"
"Yes, we did Senji-san." Saniwa finally out from despair answered with a smile. Gudao turned to Kojiro with a smile, "Thank you for the escort, Kojiro-san, Saniwa and I will now inspect our supplies of weapons for the coming expedition."
"You work hard Master." Kojiro commented with fondness.
Gudao chuckled, "It's the only thing I can do for everyone who worked hard, especially risk their lives for us…" Gudao turned to Saniwa with a smile and he smiled back with a nod, agreeing to his words.
Muramasa sigh before reporting, "The first batch arrived a minute ago, and according to the merchants the next batch will be coming around early evening."
"That's fast and quite amazing." Saniwa commented. Muramasa smirked, "Master had done a great job negotiating with the local merchants and since we're the once who are dealing with the Demons Army, they have no choice but to comply if they wish to continue living."
"A realistic view huh." Saniwa agreed and glanced towards Gudao who looked flustered as he commented, "Without Caster King Gilgamesh's harsh teaching I wouldn't be able to do that you know."
Saniwa stared him for a moment before smiling in solemn, 'He really interacts with his own Servants as they called, unlike me who only stayed inside my room. I know I could still interact with them but if only they visit to my room, other than that I had never once gone off to interact with them… I need to make myself better, for the Touken Danshi's sake.'
The three soon met up with the Merchants to check the goods, confirming every number and details before providing them the payment. After that they started talking about their plan once again until evening where everyone had come back from their duties/training to get their dinner.
If there's anything to note to their dinner, it was loud and fun. Every Servants were talking about their proudest exploit back when they're alive, being back up by their own partnered Touken Danshi that soon become a debate. As usual they made both Saniwa and Gudao become a judge and demand to declare who was the greatest among them. For the Masters' part, they could only sweat drop as they try to calm every single one of them while making sure not to give them any answer they need as it may end up in a brawl and that's the last thing they need.
Soon they began making loud noises of laughter, completely enjoying a night of peace because everyone know that tomorrow will be the time they will take their arms, and tomorrow will be another conquering quest for the Servants while for the Touken Danshi, it's their first expedition to this world's singularity.
