Chapter 25!

I had some fun with this one, I mean I always do with Waning Moon, but even more so this time. Also I feel like moments after Rumi and Izumi are officially together is going to feature a segment called Ryukyu's observation log. Rumi and Izumi are 23 here.

Disclaimer: I don't own BNHA

Enjoy, more notes at the end!

Ladies First

*Ryukyu POV*

Ryuko still couldn't make sense of how the two could create an atmosphere that was both frigid yet strangely tender at the same time.

Towards the end of the year many pro heroes, new to retired, would come together for a fancy party meant for socializing and building new connections and Ryuko had immediately noticed the top two heroines in the country. It wasn't the first one of these that the dragon woman had attended but it was the first one that Midoriya and Rumi had both made an appearance at. The tengu woman would make a very brief appearance each year while the rabbit one never bothered showing up so it certainly caught many peoples' eyes when they arrived as a pair. Ryuko knew that the two were secretly a couple but it did still catch her eye that Rumi would attend the formal event.

Other heroes, younger and older, peeked over at the pair that seemed to be in their own world as they conversed back and forth with one another. Neither the tengu or rabbit woman paid any mind to the stares and a number of the other attendees listened to their conversation with interest or whispered amongst themselves as they tried to speculate and confirm what the pair's relationship was. Both of them were dressed for the event, Midoriya taking to the look naturally while Rumi grumbled something to her with an annoyed face, and the winged woman seated herself as they neared a table while the rabbit eared heroine stood beside her with folded arms before taking a seat herself in a surprising display that sent a low rumble of chatter amongst the onlookers.

Midoriya was sitting elegantly, poised as ever and with a composed face, but Rumi was positioned sideways on her lap. The winged greenette had her right arm supporting the rabbit woman's back, her hand resting on Rumi's side, and her left went over her legs while placing that hand on the white haired woman's leg. Inversely, Rumi had both her arms loosely around Midoriya's neck while peering around and sometimes kicking her crossed legs as if she couldn't sit still. Neither of the heroines seemed to think much of their intimate position, the duo simply acting as if it was normal, but Rumi spoke up with a somewhat grumpy face as those close by quieted a little to listen in.

"Why are we here again Tengu?" she groused and her partner gave her a pointed look.

"You followed me here," Midoriya stated, retracting her wings, while the rabbit eared woman plucked up a glass of champagne.

"You made me dress up," Rumi argued back as she sipped from her drink but the greenette clicked her tongue and leaned back into her chair.

"It's a formal party," the tengu reminded sharply. "Since you insisted on imposing I wasn't going to be accompanied by someone dressed in lounge wear," she explained but Rumi didn't appear to care much as she peered around.

"I guess," the rabbit hero shrugged, already finishing her glass, "but it's boring so let's leave," she griped once more.

"You're a grown woman Usagiyama," Midoriya ignored, taking a glass of her own, "we've just arrived but you're free to leave whenever you wish," she reminded but Rumi stopped her.

"Gimme that," the rabbit woman grumbled, snatching the drink from Midoriya and downing it in one gulp, before turning back to the greenette. "Why would you even think of drinking when you're an awful drunk?" she questioned in complaint as the tengu woman directed a glare back at her.

"You're being a bit too bold," the greenette chastised and the white haired woman rolled her eyes.

"Who cares," the rabbit eared heroine brushed off, leaning back a little while Midoriya kept her supported, "you worried that people will start thinking we're together?" she questioned, sending another quiet wave through the people on the sidelines, and Midoriya shook her head.

"They'd either be foolish or in denial if they couldn't figure that out," she noted, getting a rolling chatter from the listeners. "Though wouldn't you prefer if they stayed out of our business?" she asked, both somehow still oblivious to their surroundings, and the rabbit woman pointed at her.

"You sure you're not either embarrassed or jealous?" Rumi slightly teased, a bit of a grin on her face, and her partner eyed her questioningly.

"What is there to be embarrassed or jealous about?" she posed back.

"That your dignified image will go out the window," the rabbit woman joked in a playful manner, "or that others in denial will think I'm still available," she added on slightly more seriously, another drinking having gotten into her hands at some point, and the tengu woman gave a subdued laugh.

"Hardly," Midoriya assured, a note of amusement in her tone, "if anything people will understand that you were entranced with me," she nodded confidently, another spike going through the onlookers, "you follow behind me like a love struck bunny after all."

"You admitted to being into me first," Rumi retorted, her gaze narrowing in annoyance while another drink was emptied.

"I can't recall," the greenette quipped back.

"You're a real piece of work."

Much as she found their conversations an interesting sight, Ryuko did still come to the end of the year party for other things. There were other heroes, junior and senior, to interact with so the dragon woman went off to socialize and enjoy herself as well. It was a very busy time and eventually she excused herself to take a break but the dragon woman's eyes and ears were drawn back to Midoriya and Rumi while she rested not too far off. The rabbit heroine seemed to have had a number of glasses more after Ryuko stopped listening and her face was flushed while her eyes were a touch unfocused as she remained on the tengu woman's lap. The white haired woman was clearly quite a bit intoxicated at this point and Midoriya looked a bit disgruntled but otherwise unbothered by her partner's loud chattering.

"I'm telling you, Tengu," Rumi happily urged. "You'd be set with me as a wife," she cheerily exclaimed, more alcohol being consumed, and Midoriya sipped at a glass of water.

"That's debatable," the greenette calmly responded, "and you'd be an abysmal wife," she jabbed but the rabbit woman gave an undignified scowl at the barb.

"I'd be great!" Rumi huffed angrily, "easily better than you," she retorted but the green haired tengu didn't appear convinced.

"I doubt that can be proven" Midoriya said flippantly but the intoxicated rabbit woman frowned.

"We're dating so I know it," the white haired heroine mumbled in reply regaining the attention of a few people who'd originally lost interest.

"It's precisely because we're dating that I'm certain of my words," Midoriya confirmed plainly, getting an even larger draw of attention, and Rumi puffed her cheeks after draining another glass.

"You..." the rabbit woman growled before seeming to get an idea. "Marry me then," she angrily ordered and Ryuko along with the other tuned in heroes almost dropped their own drinks or food at the sudden proposal.

"How does that help?" Midoriya demanded, her patience clearly being grated thin, and the rabbit woman eyed her as if she was stupid.

"We'd both have to be wives to prove who the better one is," Rumi pointed out as if that justified the impulsive proposal. "So it's easier and makes sense for us to get married," she reasoned, nodding her head somewhat involuntarily, and the greenette shifted her so her head rested on her shoulder.

"You're drunk Usagiyama," Midoriya sighed tiredly and the rabbit eared woman shot back up.

"I never say anything I don't mean," she exclaimed but she narrowed her eyes at the greenette. "Are you scared that I'm right?" she prodded which seemed to irk the tengu woman.

"You have no sense for timing," Midoriya growled in lecture but the rabbit woman clearly didn't care.

"Marry me, coward!" Rumi whined in childish demand, pulling at the greenette's neck and kicking her feet, and Midoriya appeared to finally be fed up with her.

"You crass..." the tengu woman began before putting a hand up to her head to calm herself. "Fine, I'll give you the privilege of marrying me!" she agreed in what had to be the most infuriated acceptance of proposal. "I'll be a perfect wife so count yourself lucky, rabbit," she declared adamantly and a sly smile found Rumi's face.

"Is not being able to cooking included with being perfect?" she asked innocently as she found another glass while the others wondered about the question.

Apparently it held some weight with Midoriya however and she plucked the glass from the drunken woman's grip and moved it out of her reach.

"You've had enough," the greenette told her sternly and the rabbit woman clung to her.

"I'm bored," Rumi told her, "take me home," she whined and Midoriya let out an exasperated breath while standing up to carry her off.

"I seem to have a selfish wife," the tengu woman groaned but there was a hint of a smile on her face and the rabbit woman snuggled up to her.

"But you love me," the drunken woman stated confidently.

"Yes, I adore you," the tengu woman agreed but the white haired woman groaned.

"Nooo," Rumi fussed in her partner's arms, "say you love me," she ordered and Midoriya just nodded as she carried the rabbit woman.

"Yes, yes, I love you Usagiyama," the greenette assured in both a drained yet vaguely sweet tone that seemed to please her.

The rest of the party attendants remained silent as the duo made their exit and the dragon woman could only imagine what kinds of things tomorrow would bring once this announcement hit. The heroine also knew her seniors would absolutely go through with this unconventional union since they both were too stubborn to back down and also loved one another dearly so that would be quite the sight too. The newly engaged pair finally left the party and Ryuko waited for a moment before the venue suddenly erupted.

She knew this party would be entertaining.

Notes and Stuff

Officially dating, drunk Rumi, another argument, and a hero party means time to get engaged. Also, Rumi demanding that Izumi marry her made me laugh.

The end of the year hero party is actually from the comedy spinoff BNHA Smash! I recommend giving it a read both for fun and ideas.

The chapter title is actually a reference to the vocaloid song 'Ladies First' by OSTER project. To no surprise it's a yuri song.

On another note, should I just have a separate fic that just contains all the parts from Waning Moon? I'd still keep it in the anthology, at least the parts already here, but considering how much more I have of it and that it seems to be the biggest draw then would people want somewhere they can just navigate the Waning Moon parts? It would still be in the same style as it is now, in moments, but just grouped.

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed and look forward to more updates from me!
