Chapter 3

Fay looked at the items on the kitchen table that she purchased in the supermarket. The items on the table that she brought were a bag of sweet potatoes, a pound bag of brown sugar, a large bottle of vanilla, two large cans of pumpkin, and a family-sized pie crust and pan. Fay is making the attempt to bake a delicious pie for her boyfriend even though she never cooks or bakes ever. Heck, Fay never took interest in culinary class due to relying solely on fast food. However, Fay wanted to do something special for Kiren since he does a lot of nice things for her and so why not return the favor?.

"You are going to put Kiren in the emergency room for food poisoning."

Fay breaks her attention from her stuff to look at her brother who is seating at the table reading his chemistry book. She gave Max a pointed look with a frown.

"For your information, nerd, I watches multiple videos of how to make a pie and streamed the cooking channel. In other words, I am not going to put my loving caring boyfriend in the emergency room," said Fay, frowning at Max.

Max sat his book down and looked at his sister with a 'You know that I am right' look. "If you do not want to feel guilty then I suggest you go back to the supermarket and go buy a pie. Make it easy on yourself and on Kiren."

Fay gave the idea a good thought on what Max just said. She shook her head in refusal. "No, I can not do that, Max."

Max raised an eyebrow. "Why?."

Fay picked up the bag of sweet potatoes with determination on her face. "I want to make it myself. I want Kiren to taste the love that I have for him. Making this pie is just the next step in cooking dinner. So why not start out small?."

Max shook his head while getting up off the table and headed to his room. "911 is on speed dial, Fay."

Fay rolled her eyes in irritation. "I won't need it."

After Fay finished talking to her brother she made her way to the kitchen table to begin her baking attempt. First, she filled a pot with warm water before setting it down. Next, Fay started peeling all the sweet potatoes and putting them in the pot. Then she turned on the stove and set the setting on it before placing the pot on, as Fay played some Weeknd on her phone to keep her calm in making Kiren his surprise pie. She worked on mixing the brown sugar and vanilla together in a big bowl while waiting for the sweet potatoes to be half down and soft.

Fay smiled to herself at the idea of Kiren loving her cooking. So well that she believes that Kiren would want more cooked food from her. "He is so going to love my pie."

"Need any help, Fay?."

Fay pulled out her white wireless headphones and looked up to see her mom. "Come again, Mom?."

Emma chuckled when entering the kitchen. "I said, do you need any help?. You never took an interest in cooking despite how much I encouraged you."

Fay nodded in defeat as she never had an interest in anything woman-housework related. Still, she wished she had taken up a long time ago if she had confessed her feelings to Kiren at that time.

"I think I am doing just fine, Mom." Fay removed the pot from the stove and pour the water out through a strainer. "But I appreciate your assistance."

Emma nodded before having a seat at the table. She smiled at her oldest child. "I just don't want my future son-in-law to fall ill by your first attempt at baking."

Fay slightly slammed the pot on the kitchen table before taking them out and cutting them into the bowl of mixed brown sugar and vanilla. "Geez, Mom, I'm not going to sicken my boyfriend. You and Max assume the worse. Korean is just going to be alright once he takes a bite of my sweet potato pie with a side of cookies and cream ice cream."

Emma nodded. "For Kiren's sake and yours, I hope we do not rush him to the emergency room. If you want I can taste test if you like."

"Forget it, Mom." Fay started smashing all the chopped sweet potatoes in the bowl with a potato ricer. "Me and Kiren are going to be eating it together as best friends. Scratch that, we are going to eat it as boyfriend and girlfriend."

"Very well." Emma pays her daughter's wishes before leaving to go watch her stories on the tv. "911 is on speed dial in case the pie goes south."

Fay rolled her eyes in frustration. "Honestly, you and Max are literally jinxing me!."

Once Fay finished smashing the sweet potatoes into perfect goo she mixed the bowl into completion before pouring it into the pie crust. She places the unbaked pie into the oven and set her timer on her phone. Fay made her way to sit down and take a nap since the work of making the pie was tiresome. Little did Fay know, she set the oven way too low. In the past two hours, Kiren made it to Fay's house a bit fatigued from working in the family's business (Monster-Royality-Scare-Bussiness). Fay can see it with no problem and always wondered what her boyfriend's occupation was but never got around to it.

"Oh, Fay, I am so tired that I might outdo your Dad in trying to stay awake," said Kiren, yawning and looking tired.

Fay smiled when cutting a slice of her pie in the bowl with the ice cream and headed her way to her boyfriend. "Well do not worry, Kiren. Once you take a bite of my pie you will feel good and awake."

Korean smiled once the bowl is facing him. "Why thank you, Fay. This pie sure looks yummy. You bake this all by yourself?."

Fay can not help but lift her head high and boast. "Everything for my one and only boyfriend. Enjoy!."

Grabbing the spoon from the bowl he breaks a piece of the pie and ice cream and took a bite. Korean had a strange facial expression from eating the pie that tasted too soft, watery, and squashy. But when looking at a happy and hopeful Fay he can not hurt her feelings. And so he ate every bite of the pie and ice cream clean from the bowl.

"Want seconds?. This time I'm eating it with you," said Fay, grinning when grabbing his bowl for seconds.

Kiren can only nod while feeling strange in his stomach. Fay came over with a big helping and had to take a bite of the unsure pie. Fay was about to eat her hard work until Kiren got up and rushed out to her concern. Fay ran out to find Kiren in the downstairs bathroom on his knees and barfing in the toilet.

"Oh, Kiren!." Fay started rubbing Kiren back in the hope of aiding him.

"My stomach not feeling so hot, baby," said Kiren, before barfing some more.

"I do not understand. I did everything right. What did I do wrong?." asked Fay, while rubbing her lover's back with concern.

Kiren tried to fight back the urge to throw up to look at his girlfriend. "Was the oven's temperature right when you put the pie in to bake?."

Fay gave it a thought and realized that she dialed the temperature to twenty-five degrees instead of one-hundred and seventy-five degrees. "Ah, crap it was the temperature. My Mom and brother had both jinxed my baking. Dang, it!."

"Fay...go...call...911...please!." Kiren went back to facing down at the toilet and resumed puking.

"Dang it." Fay grabbed the house phone and called 911 on speed dial. "I hate to admit it but it is a good thing the number is on speed dial."

Max and Emma heard what was going on from upstairs and looked at each other. "Well did warn her after all."
