Kagome woke to a soft muttering. Her mind was hazy as it began to filter memories. Memories that explained why she felt so disconnected from her body. It caused Kagome to groan softly, silencing the muttering.

"Who's there?"

Kagome felt amused at the person, or man, who called out. Her eyes opened slowly, giving her a dizzying 360-degree view. But it let her see who spoke (albeit very blurrily).

On the green grass was a redhead wearing glasses that magnified vivid Chartreuse eyes. The wariness written on their face as thin lips tilted into a frown. IT had Kagome sighing, which in turn made the redhead tense.

"Show yourself!"

Kagome felt her eyebrows climb on her forehead. Mentally all prior memories had finished filtering in, and she now knew her situation. Her actual body had arrived a few hundred years before. And, of course, she'd regressed to a child and had not unlocked her memories(or Horiki). So a Nyried, water fae, trapped in the damn lake, took advantage of her younger self. They separated her body and soul. And now she was bound to a weeping willow overlooking the lake in Kingsbury Park.

Kagome understood her body was somewhere near a place that felt like life and Death. That it was safe(for now). So deciding to humor her slightly sad and ill-tempered guest, Kagome slid from the tree and walked around it and into view.

The way those Chartreuse eyes blinked before widening had Kagome feeling confused. Looking down, she had heat flushing her body. Naked. She was fucking naked. Closing her eyes, Kagome willed clothes to appear.

"You. You!" The redhead cried. "Are neither alive nor dead? What are you?"

Rolling her eyes, Kagome knew she was frowning at how they addressed her.

"Not you. Kagome. Ka-Go-Me!" she growled. "And you, visitor, are?"

The flush that colored the redhead's pale cheeks was adorable. But it was the fact she couldn't see the outline of their soul clearly that had Kagome recalling one of her prior lives. She could also see that this person knew she was deflecting instead of answering their question.

"Grell Sutcliff, Miss," the redhead stated stiffly.

"Ah, thank you, Grell," Kagome said, smiling. "You're a shinigami, right? If you're here for my soul, that's a problem. As you saw, I'm neither alive nor dead."

The shock and dumbfoundedness on the Shinigami's face had Kagome openly laughing.

"Then what are you?"

Kagome ceased laughing and thought about how to answer. Realizing anything, she said, would be okay. So, Kagome told Grell about the truth of her 'situation', not about herself per say. Making sure he understood a nyriad had done this to her. When she finished, her instincts told Kagome she had just made a new friend.

Grell smiled as he lifted his arm. His gaze was on the sleeping, tiny woman he had known ten years ago. It was the one thing Grell was grateful to the Demon Sebastian Mchalias for. If that bastard hadn't gone and upset him, he'd never have sought solace under the weeping willow in Kingsbury park.

Grell smiled wider as he recalled his first impression of Kagome. A living, bound spirit. She'd been nude, leaving him feeling somewhat flustered. From there, she'd readily accepted him as he was. She relished in his duality. Basked in their shared girl time and hung out with him as a guy. Which led to some heated debates.

Kagome, for Grell, had been a haven. After a year, Grell got Kagome to open up, telling him what she felt about her still-living body. It had left him perplexed. But still, he'd promised to look for it.

And that had led him to the undertaker. Grell frowned as he recalled countless hours searching through the library at headquarters and how William T. Spears became nosey about his personal business. Then, Grell found himself in a high-security section with the living tombs. A place he'd always found disturbing. But it was where he found Kagome's body and how to free her.

Though three years had passed by this point, Grell had rushed back to tell Kagome. Only to find her in a strange mod. When she had explained to him what had put her in such a mood, Grell found himself somewhat embarrassed. Since he had forgotten, Kagome was aware of everything happening to her body.

"Urmph!"

The irritated growl drew Grell from his musing. He quickly helped Kagome sit up and turn before she laid back to sleep. She was making him chuckle quietly.

Grell recalled the day he'd freed Kagome, letting his mind drift again. He had turned his chainsaw scythe in for the scissors. He tried his best not to trigger William, who had taken to spying on him. Then there was a nosy Sebastian and his contracted human. Because over the past three years, Grell had changed.

He had come to understand himself more. Talking with Kagome had helped him grow as a person and Shinigami realized that it was okay to be a man and still fabulous like a woman. And all he felt toward Sebastian was a passing physical attraction to his devilish, dark, good looks. The Demon had a perverse and nasty personality.

Smiling again, Grell shifted so he was spooning Kagome. Who hummed happily in her sleep, a quirk he found adorable.

He gave a slight nod, allowing the smile to get bigger as he recalled piercing Kagome with the scissors. It allowed all her memories of her life(Lives) to flow out. And he learned of not just this current life but all the ones that came before.

He had been more than a bit shocked by that; Grell would admit to feeling fear as her memories seemed to absorb him. That and Kagome vanishing. It had him disorientated and panicked before he recalled that there'd be a slim chance her soul would return to her body- in the library at headquarters.

He had rushed back to headquarters to see chaos had descended. Not caring, Grell flew to the library only to see a fuming, very naked(again) Kagome standing over a curled-up William T. Spears. While the undertaker stood to the side laughing.

It took Death himself arriving to get them sorted out. Grell learned William had come to inspect the tomb that had been Kagome. He had been holding Kagome when her soul returned, transforming her body back to normal. Only to have her breast manhandled by William; she beat him to the ground with spiritual energy. It was self-defense, so there was no problem with it.

Death had claimed a headache at seeing Kagome, a transcended human. Meaning she was never alive or dead, to begin with, and couldn't age. Before Death told him that her soul had bonded to him, the level of complications went over his head, and he didn't want to understand. Though he knew in the future, she'd leave him.

Sighing, Grell cast a sad look at his sleeping companion. The following two years were exciting. Kagome was a demon magnate, as Grell discovered he did not like this aspect of her. Though Sebastian and Claude Faust had pissed her off to the point, Kagome snapped. She had verbally ripped them apart while slowly killing them with her Horiki, though she didn't actually kill them.

The harsh tone she'd called the pathetic, weak demons who had to rely on contracts with humans to survive was titillating. Then continued by saying no self-respecting demon would ever demean themselves over a human soul. But a devil.. Talk about a significant insult.

Grell knew he had flinched as her words sliced deeply. However, he was immune thanks to the soul bond. Grell still felt uncomfortable.

It was the aftermath that had hit him the hardest. Because Kagome, in her rage, had defended him when he tried(attempted) to shift the targets. He was instigating Kagome against himself. Hearing her(since no one else ever did. Not that Grell could recall) defend him. To speak, her honest feeling had left him raw and vulnerable.

The cuddle session that followed after both demons fled with nothing to say. Grell had no control as an accidental kiss happened. He looked at her as she looked back at him. How still they'd both gone. Yet Grell was amazed he wasn't repulsed by kissing Kagome. A woman.

So he pushed further. The shock he felt from Kagome through their bond made him pause. But then Kagome had nipped at his bottom lip. Grell had long known her feelings but respected him and his boundaries, thus never acting on her feelings.

What happened ended up as a tangle of bodies. Kagome had paused to ensure he wanted this or was still riding his emotional rollercoaster. That alone let Grell know he wanted all of her. She was indeed unlike anyone he had ever met. His heart beat strongly enough that Grell could not ignore his feelings anymore. At some point, he'd fallen in love with Kagome.

Now, ten years after they'd met, Grewll was a bundle of mixed emotions again. The chance had been less than one percent. But somehow, it happened. He and Kagome were expecting, and it had caused waves across the board.

Angel, Demon, reaper, and humans were waiting. Their child would defy many laws. No one was sure where it would fall. But Grell had been blunt. He wanted a little girl who looked like Kagome. At the same time, Kagome did not care as long as their child had his red hair.

Kagome's declaration shocked many Shinigami. Even Death! Yet it was simply Kagome being Kagome. And in less than a month, Grewll would get to see his child.
