He sat beside me, handing me something. "When did you get this?" I asked, as I picked it up, and took a bite. "I picked it up, before we left." He replied smoothly. "Thanks." He kissed my head sweetly. "Nothing to Thank. You're my wife. It's my job to take care of you." "It's your only job right now General." Ling stated as he walked by to set up a couple tents.
I chuckled, as Shang wrapped his arms protectively around me. "I should start thinking to dinner…" Shang commented. I said "Are you sure…?" Shang said "Yeah. I don't want you to feel sick, anymore. I'll be back, darling." His lips pressed against my head, before he left. "Hey Mulan…" I heard Shi Yi's voice say as she sat beside me. "What do you want?" I said harshly. "Umm… Okay… I thought we were cool… Did I do something wrong?" I looked at her, harshly, as she said "What did I do?" I sighed, as I said "Well your little comments, at lunch… Particularly, the one that the fish were fine, and that I was being rude by running and throwing up, when all I had to say was no thanks." Shi Yi said "I was just trying to make it easier with the fish are fine comment… I didn't mean to upset you, I guess I was just a little hormonal… I know it's not an excuse… I'm sorry…" I said "Thank you… I appreciate your apology… I do, but I do not want you to do that again."
I got up, as she started gathering fish. I went over to the others. "Mulan? Are you alright?" Ling said, as he came over. "Yeah… Fine…" Shang came over and said "Hey, Darling." I smiled as I looked up at him. "Hi." "I got some birds, for my beautiful wife, I'll cook them up for her." Shang said as he sat beside me, as he started preparing the bird. "What's the face Mulan?" I heard him ask, as I looked over at him. "I… Just feel like everything's trying to fall apart…" I confessed. "I know how you feel. It does feel like everything's falling apart, But I'm not going to let it." I nodded, as I laid my head on his shoulder. After everyone's dinner was cooked, we ate before Shang put more logs on the fire.
"Shang?" Shi Yi said, as she came over. "I'm going for a walk…" I said as I got up, and started off in an opposite direction. "Mulan?" I heard Chien Po say, as he tried to follow me, but knew he had a duty. "Go after her Chien Po. We've got everything covered." Shang's voice said as I ran off towards the woods. "Mulan! Slow down!" Chien Po said, as he grabbed my arm. "Let me go." I said as I could feel the panic rising. "No… GET OFF!" I said shoving his hand off mine, as I dropped to my knees. "Mulan. It's me… Chien Po… What's going on?" He asked, kneeling beside me. "Nothing… Just leave me…." I muttered. Chien Po sighed. "No. Shang gave his orders." I looked up, feeling defeated. "I think I made a mistake in asking Shi Yi to join us…" Chien Po said "Why would you think that?" I said "I don't know… I just feel like, while it's a relief to have another woman able to help with some of the needs of their highnesses…. But I feel like it's also been a thousand times more stressful… Seeing as Ling's always stressing out over Shi Yi, and not entirely focused on the mission…" I took a deep breath and said "And Shang's been more stressed than I've ever seen him… He wouldn't be as stressed If I never suggested Shi Yi come…" Chien Po said "Mulan…" I said "Everyone knows it's true!" "It's Not. Come on, do you really think that?" I nodded. "Come on, You know Shang, and all of us, we'd be stressed regardless, of having an extra person along. An seemingly impossible mission, with an even more seemingly impossible deadline? I mean…" I sighed. "I still regret even asking her to come…" "Maybe you should talk to Shang and Ling?" I bit my lip, and said "I don't think so… They may not…" He started as we walked back towards everyone else. "We're back!" Chien Po said, as we came over. Shang stood coming over to me, and wrapped his arms around me. "Hey, I was getting worried…" "I'm sor…" "Don't apologize honey." Shang said as my head rested on his shoulder. We stayed out by the fire all day, chatting.
"Alright, Mulan what's going on in that head of yours?" Shang asked as we undressed in our tent. The guys were taking the first watch for us. "Wha…" "You've been acting different since you got back with Chien Po… Talk to me." I sat on the mat, as Shang sat beside me. "I… Do you think the mission would've been or rather would be easier if I didn't suggest Shi Yi come?" "Why do you think that?" He asked, touching my face gently. "You've been way more stressed out, then normal… The correlation I can think of is… Your sister being here… You and Ling have been more stressed…" My eyes met his, as he said "I'll admit it, that it has been a bit more stressful for Ling and me, having Shi Yi, here… But It's also been a bit of a relief, in a way… The princesses, had someone else to confide in, other than you… But we wouldn't have it any other way." I said "I think I've felt more stressed too… Seeing as I'm one of the few people she told about… you know… Her rape…" Shang, said "I'm so sorry… I didn't think about it being hard on you too…" I said "It's Okay… I just feel like she relies on me a bit more, then she does on anyone else, probably because I'm a woman, who has been raped… I just… I don't know if I can keep up being strong for myself, her you, and the baby…" Shang said "Why didn't you say something to me earlier?" I said "I knew you were more stressed… I didn't want to add more…" Shang kissed my head and said "Mulan, You are my first priority. If something's bothering you, or making you feel stressed… or like you have to bare the weight of all problems, you can always come to me, Without fear of adding to my stress." I said "But…"
He shook his head and said "No. No Buts. You can always lean on me, no matter what." "Even if it would add to your stress load…?" "You are my wife. I am your husband. It's our stress. I'm sorry if I did anything to make you feel otherwise…" "You didn't do anything…" I replied. "Are you sure…?" He asked, as I nodded. "Yeah…" He kissed my lips once before, saying "We should get some sleep, and I promise Starting tomorrow…" "I'll stop being the only single person Shi Yi relies on, and we'll start sharing the stress load." He grinned, as we laid down, Me curling up in his chest, my eyes shutting. "I'll keep you safe." Shang whispered, before we feel asleep.
Around Midnight, we went to take our watch. "Here honey…" Shang said, handing me a cup of tea. I sipped, a little, as he wrapped a blanket around my shoulders. "Thanks…" I said, as he sat beside me once more. We kept watch most the night, around 6, I started dozing off, while laying my head on Shang's shoulder. "Hey, why don't you try to get some sleep…? We don't have to set out at first light, if you want to catch some more sleep…" I shook my head, as I looked up at him. "No… It's Okay… I'm wide awake…" Shang said "Here, Drink some more Tea…" He said handing me a tea cup, causing me to sip. "Thanks…" I replied. Just then their highnesses and Shi Yi, came out of their tents. "Good Morning General! Good Morning Captain!" Their highnesses greeted. "Morning Shang, Mulan." Shi Yi said. Shang smiled, and said "Good morning your highnesses! Good Morning Shi Yi! Everyone sleep well?" They nodded, as Ling, Chien Po and Chien Yi exited the same tent's as their wives. "Good morning, Guys." I stood, and said "Alright, Chien Po, Chien Yi, Find some firewood. Ling, Help me get the pots and pans, as well as the breakfast supplies, Shang got before we left." "Actually, Mulan… I want you to sit. I'll help Ling." Shang interjected. "Actually, Why don't you go lie down in our tent?" Shang said, before heading off with Ling. I sighed, as I shook my head. "I'll stay if you want to go lie down…" Chien Yi stated. "No. I'm fine. Go help Chien Po, with the firewood." Shi Yi sat beside me, while the princesses, gathered some fruit, nearby. "Hey Mulan… Can…" I sighed, as their highnesses came over, along with Shang and Ling. "Mulan can I talk to you, privately?" Shi Yi asked. Ling said "Shi Yi, maybe…" I stood up, walking over to Shang. "No I need to talk to her…" I felt Shang quickly set everything down, before embracing me. "Shi Yi, How about we go talk…" Ling suggested, as Shang and I sat on the logs, while Shang started to mix up his special oatmeal. "No I need to talk to her, Woman to woman." Shi Yi said, as Ling looked at me and Shang, then back at Shi Yi. "Sweetheart… I think we should talk." Ling said, firmly, as Shi Yi walked over to him, and they stepped away. "General Shang…" Princess Shin Yi asked. "Your Highness, is everything alright?" I asked, as Shang stirred the oatmeal.
"Um, Yeah, but I was just wondering… When you think we'll be able to return…?" Princess Shin Yi asked. Shang said "We should be able to return to the palace by Friday evening, You highness. I know you ladies are eager to get home. We'll leave right after breakfast." She nodded, as Shang served up the oatmeal, while Ling and Shi Yi came over, her usually sweet and friendly eyes, shot daggers at me, all through the meal. I gently nudged Shang, who turned and looked at me, eyebrow raised. My eyes gestured discretely to Shi Yi. Shang's eye followed catching on. "Just ignore it. She's probably not happy. I'll explain in a little bit." After breakfast, we cleaned up and got everything packed up. "Mulan." Ling's voice said, as he approached. "Hey, Is everything okay? Shi Yi's acting mad…" I said, as I put stuff in the carriage. "Yeah, she's fine… Shang told me what you guys talked about last night… More so how you've been feeling…" Ling's eyes met mine. "I know, I'm probably…" "No, You're not. I should have noticed something… I'm sorry I made you feel, or Shi Yi made you feel, as you're her only one she could confide in. From now on, I'll try and talk to her more. I promise." I said "Thanks Ling. I'd still help if you feel like it's more womens area." Ling said "Thank you." After we finished, and the girls were in the carriage, I went over to Shang's horse.
"May I help you up my bride?" Shang said, as his hand rested on my back, and his other one on the back of his horse. "Thank you." I said as he helped me up, before getting on behind me his arms encasing me, as he grabbed the reigns, as he ushered Kai forward. "Thank you…" I said, as my head rested on his shoulder. "You're so welcome. I know Ling talked to you… But when I insisted on helping Ling versus you, it was because I wanted to tell him what you told me… So maybe he could talk to Shi Yi, a bit more, take a huge load off you." I said "That's why I said Thank you." Shang kissed my head, as we continued on our way, stopping only a couple times. The day turned into night. "Shang… Can we stop?" I asked, hiding a yawn. "Yeah, of course." He pulled over into a clearing, it was near a village as well. "Alright, Chien Po, can you please get us some firewood? Chien Yi, Help get us some logs, Shi Yi, start fishing. Ling, get the supplies, to start cooking. Mulan and I will set up tents." We started pitching the tents. "I'm going to get something else for you, I'll be back in a little bit." Shang said as, we finished pitching the tents. I nodded, as Ling said "Mulan, The guys and I talked, and we want to each take a shift, so you and the General can get some more sleep. I agreed to take the first watch. Chien Po will take the midnight-3 am shift, and Chien Yi will take the last shift." I said "Ling, I appreciate the thought, and I know Shang'll too, but you guys don't have to…" "We want to." Ling insisted. "Thank you."
Shang came over with a bird. "Hey. Everything alright? Where are the princesses?" "We're right here General." They said as the appeared next to us. While Shang cooked the food, I sat close. The guys were setting up the pot for the tea. "So the guys are insisting on something…" Shang said "Hmm?" I took a deep breath, before I said "They don't want us taking a shift. They worked it out, apparently. Ling is taking the first shift, which is whenever we turn in, till Midnight. Chien Po will take midnight-3 am. Chien Yi will take the 3 am till whenever we wake up… I tried to refuse, but They insisted." Shang looked at me, before flipping the meat. "I wouldn't turn down any time we can get extra sleep… I would feel better if you got some extra sleep too…" I said "I figured you'd say that, which is why when they said they insisted, I just said thank you…" Shang smiled, as we served up dinner. While we ate, the guys tried, to figure out the best route home. I had finished, eating and said "Ladies, Maybe you should, take a bath while we have a chance…" They nodded, and quickly bathed, then Shi Yi did, before they retired to their tents. Shang came over to me and said "All good?" I shook my head. "I hate to ask… But…" "I'll watch while you bathe. I told the guys We'd stay up a little, and gave them a list of things, and some money to get a few things for us." I quickly bathed, and pulled on the extra clothes Shang had set out for me. "All done darling." I said, coming up behind him. "Good. Now go to our tent. I'll be there in a little bit." I nodded, going to our tent, and laying down. "Hey there little one…" I whispered to my stomach, my hands resting peacefully. "Hey The guys are back, and I'm ready to just love my incredibly beautiful wife." "Wait, first… Feel." I grabbed his hand, placing it on my stomach as there was a strong hard kick. "Was that…" I nodded and said "I felt it right before you came in." He kissed my head sweetly, before we spent the next hour, in pure sweet bliss, before we fell asleep.
