Hi, so here we go and this is a smaller chapter than I usually write but Jacob's a new persona for me so It was like taking a car for a test drive. Either way I hope you like it.

The dialogue here is not the same but it was never going to be with this story. I added some of my own twist to Jacob but actually his arc of Breaking Dawn is one of the best written things to come out of the whole Saga.

And some trigger warnings for Bella's pregnancy and Rosalie's past.

This does go into the Alice/Bella/Rosalie relationship which to me is very complex and a complete disservice to Rosalie's character. I get that Alice was the accepting one, the best friend the one who planned a wedding in six weeks (which takes a special kind of person in my book) but there are SO many warning signs in that friendship when as an adult you go back and read it. Alice feeds into the toxic-ness that is Edward and Bella's relationship. She completely ignores Bella in New Moon after the party, turns up and drags her into danger knowing full well the incredible risks, makes promises she knows she can't keep and the continually spies on Bella tipping off any decisions she makes to Edward who does whatever he can do to stop her. To say nothing of the fact that she guilts Bella into having a wedding (at first) encourages sexual intercourse between them and refuses to let Bella do anything. I get that this is the way Bella's character was written but as a feminist it's so galling sometimes that someone has to call Alice out on the shit that she pulls.

Seriously the line "You already have me watching Bella's every move" in Eclipse-seriously how did that not send any red flags up? Even to Bella? (Insert hands being thrown up in the air)

In terms of Rosalie it's different. She has her valid reasons for doing what she does and saying what she says but she actively tries to stay out Bella's way. It's Edward and Esme and the rest of them that for the first three books continually push the two of them together. Looking back I don't blame Rosalie for the way she is but there's an understanding between her and Bella that Alice just doesn't get. She's Edward's sister before she's Bella's friend and yet with Rosalie in this moment I think she's Bella's friend before she's Edward's sister. And I could never understand how everyone was so pissed off with Rosalie in Breaking Dawn when considering she had no choices in how she became a vampire, she wouldn't fight for Bella to make hers.

So yeah this is not really nice to Alice, I've tried to make it as balanced as I could do but this is primarily a Rosalie centric fan story (seriously the woman can do so much better with that family and deserves a much better storyline), so yeah for a while Alice and Edward are the enemy.

I could go on like this forever but I won't. With yet another rant about how unfair the Twilight characters are written over with (expect more) I will let you get on with this chapter.

Self-Fulfilling Prophecy

Chapter 8-Give Me One Reason

The depths of which Edward is willing to sink surprises all of the Cullen's. Emmett's relationship with Edward takes another dive. Alice and Rosalie nearly come to blows. And as soon as he leaves, the wolf comes back. Slightly shorter chapter.

"Find a place inside where there is joy and the joy will burn out the pain" Joseph Campbell

They only retreated a short way away. Emmett had been gripping her hand the entire way and Rosalie was glad for the comfort. She did not trust Edward or Alice at all. She only barely trusted Jasper. Carlisle and Esme had gone with them but they were mostly silent shadows. For Esme her mind had been made up, for Carlisle the second her mind had been made up his had been too. They didn't argue that much and when they did they never did it in front of them. It was that old world view Rosalie supposed her own parents had, had that if you disagreed with your other half the children never knew about it.

Not that, that had happened in her house. You learnt pretty fast in the Hale household that if your opinions on anything weather it be political, social or even down to what you should wear, differed from her father then you kept them to yourself or you changed them pretty quick. Rosalie had never seen her mother raise so much as an eyebrow to her father even when her engagement at the age of seventeen had been announced. Even when interest by Royce had been expressed before that.

Sometimes she wondered if only for the briefest second if her mother had managed to stand up to her father on her marriage to Royce she'd be here now.

But then as soon as she thought it she dismissed it. There was no world in which her mother ever turned away the chance to call her family the King's. Royce could have cheated on her with every woman in New York, fathered hundreds of bastards and beaten her until she was black and blue and her mother would have patted her on the shoulder in that distracted way she had done and told her that woman of a certain standing had to put up with this behaviour and that under no circumstances was divorce an option. Even now she could see the look on her face.

One of the things she had to give Esme was that she was not like her mother. It made her feelings for her human family even more complicated. Her human parents especially but she knew that when push came to shove Esme would burn down the world to save her children. Her mother would have watched her children burn. Hell…even when it became clear that Royce had been, being targeted by…something…she'd never even thought to consider why.

"You really think Jacob Black will talk her out of it?" Jasper asked softly looking at Edward and effectively ending the silence that the Cullen siblings had been placed under—everyone had been straining their ears to listen but they were too far away, no doubt something that Edward had foreseen.

"No" Edward said his voice heavy with disuse. "But it's worth a shot. I…he got it…I couldn't…in Brazil…and he did. The second I told him that she wanted the thing he understood."

"The baby" Rosalie muttered. Emmett's fingers around her twitched as if he was telling her to be silent. She rolled her eyes. The sooner Edward admitted that Bella was carrying his baby the easier life would be for them all.

Edward ignored her.

Well…what else was new?

"I asked him to consider something else" Edward said hoarsely as if the words were being ripped out of his lungs with a blunt razor. It was as if now he had started speaking he had couldn't stop.

"You didn't ask him—Edward while you were out there you didn't—"

Her husband abruptly cut himself off as Edward's eyes met his. For a second Rosalie looked between her husband and her brother as they had a silent conversation. For Emmett and Edward this was rare. The last time they had been like this Bella had been in the hospital after James and they were having this conversation about what would happen if Bella had died. Emmett had disappeared when she had arrived from Forks with Edward and when he had come back there had been a fury about him that Rosalie had not understood. Now she thought that she did. After the Volturi debacle she thought that she could understand what Emmett was asking Edward…what he couldn't phrase into words in front of Carlisle and Esme and Alice.

"I asked him if he could give her a baby"

Rosalie inhaled so sharply she got a taste of everything around her. The air sucked into her dry lungs and set her throat on fire. Her vision became red because how…how after everything that they had been through did Edward still not get it?

"Jesus Christ Edward" Jasper breathed looking disgusted. "You do get that even if she agrees, she isn't going to get out of this human"

"You don't know that" Edward said and the strain in his voice was becoming almost hard to hear. Had she not been so utterly furious with him she would have felt sorry for him. As it was she could barely contain her temper. Esme came to Edward's side her hand on his chest every inch the comforting mother, Carlisle his own eyes on her came and stood next to Emmett who was watching Edward with a horrified expression and something inside Rosalie just snapped.

"You don't understand" she said her voice shaking with fury. "Edward…it's not about a baby. It's about your baby. She doesn't want any baby but yours. And it's not going to work. And…and how could you?"

"How could I?" Edward snarled shoving off Esme's comforting and restraining hand all at once and coming forwards so that they were face to face and she could see the urge to snap so deep in his dark eyes.

"Yes—"

"NO HOW COULD YOU! HOW COULD YOU ENCOURGE THIS MADDNES? ENCOURAGE THIS MONSTER THAT IS GOING TO RIP MY WIFE APART?"

"BECAUSE SHE ASKED ME TOO" Rosalie screamed back uncaring that Emmett's hand was on her back ready to yank her backwards if Edward made a move towards her (not that she cared if she was being totally honest with herself she was looking for a reason to smack him).

"BECAUSE SHE UNDERSTOOD THAT I WOULD GET IT AND YOU NEVER WOULD. BECAUSE SHE WAS SCARED OF YOU, YOU ARSEHOLE!"

Edward recoiled as if she'd stuck an electric cattle prod up his backside (good!) but before he could redouble on his attack Alice spoke and her voice was tinged with bitterness.

"So you give her false hope? You live out your fantasies through the woman you've never liked?"

"You know what pisses you off Alice? It's not the pregnancy, or that your blind as a bat because of it. It's because your jealous isn't it?"

"Of what? This?"

"Of the fact that she called me. You've been walking around for months calling her your best friend, you've been her maid of honour, you've spied on her for months and not only did she pull one over on you, but she called me. She didn't want you. She wanted me. She trusted me to have her back and DO WHAT SHE WANTED. NOT WHAT EVERYONE THOUGHT WAS BEST. WHAT SHE WANTED!"

Alice's mouth dropped open in shock at the angle that Rosalie had presented and Rosalie wondered if she'd realised that it was so black and white.

"You know fighting over hers not gonna help her" Jasper said mildly shooting Rosalie a look. It was always hard to tell with Jasper. He didn't like the fact that she had shouted at his wife and he didn't like that she had said what she had said it was written all over his tightly coiled body but his face was calm. Weather or not he agreed with her Rosalie knew she would never know. Jasper was never going to turn against Alice in public even if in private he disagreed with her.

"No what will help her Jazz is getting that thing out of her"

"Baby…Jesus, Mary and Joseph Alice, it's a baby, you can feel him moving"

"Oh don't get me started on the fact that I can feel it moving" Alice snarled at her. Rosalie shook her head. She had expected this from Edward…this complete denial from Alice had not been what she had expected. Had she thought that Alice would skip at the idea of Bella's decision? No. But she had not expected this level of anger pouring off her sister in waves? No. She had not expected her to start building a crib but she had not expected the hatred that was being thrown her way. The way they all seemed to think she was selfish and mad and stupid or worse…just watching Bella die. They didn't seem to understand that she had faith in this working. For the first time since she had seen Emmett bleeding in that forest she had the sense to trust that something good was going to happen. Bella had survived so much, she knew her mind and she knew her body, why was it so hard for her family to believe that she could and would survive this?

She took a breath and gripped handfuls of her golden hair whipping it back off her face and she trying to get herself under control.

"Don't you think it's rather hurtful to ask Jacob to do that?" Carlisle said quietly. "The boy has feeling's Edward."

"I know what I asked him to do" Edward said lowly. "And though it might surprise you I don't like the idea of hurting Jacob Black. I actually don't hate him. But he has a connection with Bella that I don't understand and never will and if he can utilise that to get that thing out of her then I will use it. He understands it too"

"You do realise that when he goes back to La Push the rest of them will know what is happening here" Jasper said slowly as if the thought had just occurred to him when in fact it had probably been weighing on his mind since Jacob Black had entered the house.

"I know" Edward said voice tight.

"They won't like it" Emmett voiced his tone oddly quiet in the silence of the clearing. "They're all about protection just as much as we are. They won't like this"

Rosalie nodded once to herself. She could see the path her husband was painting. As if they didn't have enough to worry about. Was that why Edward had asked…? But no…that was insane…to get the wolves to do what he could not was insane. That would mean killing them all. Even Edward wasn't…

"No I am not stupid enough to propose that plan you blonde nit"

She shot him a look. The use of the words were reflective of a time when the teasing between them had been friendly. When they had been brother and sister and not the enemies on either side of the line that they were on now.

"What?" Carlisle asked looking between the two of them but before Rosalie could open her mouth Edward had given a long sigh.

"He's gone"

"He is?"

"It didn't work" Emmett said flatly but Rosalie didn't wait to hear anything else she turned and ran and she was back at Bella's side propping up her pillows when Edward came through the front door less than a millisecond later his face contorted into a snarl, though weather or not it was because she had beaten him here or weather or not his plan had failed Rosalie couldn't tell.

To be honest she didn't care.

Bella had emptied her stomach again and fallen asleep shivering on the couch. The rest of them were scattered around all but Alice in the living room. She had gone up to her and Jasper's room claiming she needed some time alone so that the blinkering visions in her head didn't drive her up the wall. Jasper after ten minutes went and sat at the top of the stairs waiting if she needed him his whole body attuned to her. He had even stopped trying to keep up the pretence of keeping everyone calm so the atmosphere in the room was close to breaking point.

"He's only doing it when Bella's awake" Emmett muttered watching his brother closely. "He can't…Edward and Alice…it's too much for him to keep us calm every other second right now."

"Does he not think?"

"Alice isn't going to make a move and right now Edward can't"

It was all that he could say with Edward in the room sat against the door with his knees up against his chest watching his wife's ragged breaths with every second. The baby was big now and Rosalie could understand Carlisle's concern with delivery. Soon there would need to be a plan.

She could understand his confusion and frustration with this one.

They needed to see what was inside there. And they needed to feed him. She was sure that the baby was starving.

Times like this she missed Vera. She really, really missed Vera. Vera who had carried a child to term and would know what to do. Wasn't there supposed to be cravings at some point?

She was settling in for another long night sat at the foot of the couch, Emmett perched on the arm near Bella's head a silent, protection for her body and for her heart when Edward shot up, first his head and then his whole body listening intently. Night had not fallen but clearly something had happened.

"Shit" he said once into the quiet of the room. "Emmett, Jasper I need you with me. Outside"

"What's happening?" Esme asked putting down the book she had not been reading and Carlisle who had been re-reading his notes over the baby for the forth thousand's time a day looked up as well as both her husband and her brother flew to Edward's side.

"Stay here" Edward said looking directly at her and Rosalie realised with a jolt that this was the one time that Edward was asking her to stay with Bella. To stay to protect Bella and that scared her for the first time since she had started this journey with the peacefully sleeping human behind her.

"What is it?" Alice said coming down the stairs for once not holding her head. "Everything just went black"

"Yeah" Edward said opening the door and disappearing down the stairs.

"Jacob's back"

Oh shit.

And there you go, this is my first real time writing Jacob (or at least canon wise) so I hope it was okay. I will try and bring you the next chapter sooner rather than later.

Next Chapter-Jacob returns (but he is not alone) the treaty is null and void. Emmett and Esme share a moment (back to Emmett for this chapter's point of view)
