"It wasn't w-worth it.. it w-wasn't worth it.. wh-what have I done?.." Nigel wailed, clutching 9L's soft, periwinkle fur. She just trilled softly in response as she took him into her room, setting him onto her bed. Nigel looked up at the large feline with blurry, tear-filled eyes as she proceeded to clear her throat a bit.
"Need someone to talk to?.." she spoke with this soft, young-sounding voice. Nigel just looked on. "You see, Numbah One.. we Galactic Kids Next Door operatives have had a hard life. Take it from me.." she seemed to try and compose herself before speaking any further. "Much like you, I was happy and carefree, living peacefully with my friends and family on my home planet.. it was a beautiful place that bloomed with flowers and trees and vibrant atmosphere, much like your home planet.. then about a year earlier, I was told that I was "chosen" for a special opportunity.. they put me in this rocket, where I was taken here and attended several meetings about how "adults were evil" and we were supposedly going to end adult tyranny "across the universe". Boy was I a fool for trusting them.." at this point 9L's voice began to break as her body began to tremble like a leaf in the winds. ".. I thought they were nice and wanted to help me.. when really.. they were using me for GENOCIDE.. *sniffle*.. I watched in horror as my planet, and everyone on it.. mama, papa.. my siblings and friends.. all got wiped out of existence.. and not a day goes by that I don't regret my decision.." the sniveling kitten took out a clump of what appeared to be a mixture of grass, soil, and stone. "This.. th-this is the only m-m-memory I have left of them.." 9L squeezed her eyes shut and bowed her head as colorful tears ran down her muzzle and dripped off her nose like water out of a leaky faucet. Nigel, heartbroken and in shock at what he had been told, felt a wave of sympathy for the traumatized feline. He gently lunged towards 9L, wrapping his arms the best he could around her soft belly. He sobbed into her fur, soaking it with his own tears.
The both hugged and cried it out for what seemed like 10 minutes before finally pulling away and wiping their tears. "Thank you for being someone I can vent to about this, Numbah One.. I really appreciate it," 9L sniffled. "Hey, anytime, Numbah 9Lives. That's what teammates are for!" they both hug once again before Nigel had begun walking back to his room. "I'm just next door if you need anything," he smiled before closing the door behind him in a strangely quick motion.
"Same to you," 9L replied in a rather solemn tone as she laid in her bed and closed her eyes. "Same to you.."
Nigel had gotten into his bed as well, and closed his eyes as tears welled up once again. It seemed like they would never stop flowing, knowing he had destroyed his home planet. He buried his face into his pillow and began to cry hysterically. He didn't give a damn if anyone heard him. Earth was now destroyed. His friends and family were dead. His remaining teammate doesn't trust him anymore. And it was all because of him.. he wanted nothing more than to drown in a sea of his own tears the more the flashbacks of him watching Earth crumble and die played in his mind..
