Hide and be sneaky
It was past noon in Playa des losers. Things didn't change a lot after Trent's arrival. Eva accepted the BFFFLs and Tyler joined her in her daily workout. Courtney was watching the cafeteria and the snacks hut on the pool while Harold hid from her.
However, for Ezekiel, it wasn't a day like any other. He went to the library to meet Noah, who was helping him decipher the code from the map Lester had sold him. The Indian guy wasn't a person who enjoyed helping others, but he loved a good mystery, and what could be better than a hidden treasure?
Unfortunately for Noah, things weren't going as the genius expected.
"Yoyoyo, Homie! The Zeke is on da house," said Ezekiel, moving his arms like a rapper.
"Good morning," said Noah sighing. "Aren't you ashamed of talking like that in public?"
"Eh? No, The Zeke is really cool and swag so he isn't ashamed to brag," said Zeke, folding his arms and raising his head.
Noah rolled his eyes. "That's a horrible rhyme, but sadly it isn't the worst you have made." However, the genius smile turned sour after some people entered behind Zeke.
"Hello Noah," said Sadie waving at him.
"How are you? Did you read many books?" said Katie winking, then she looked around. "Well, if there is like any book you can read in this place."
Sadie nodded. "That's true. For a library there are too few books on the bookshelves."
"I thought the same. Maybe it's a minimalistic library!"
"Or a work in progress!"
As the BFFFL discussed what this place was, Noah held Zeke's arm and pulled him away to talk without Katie and Sadie hearing.
"Why did you bring them here?" asked Noah, raising an eyebrow.
"The Zeke maybe told them a little bit about the treasure," said Zeke, twiddling his fingers. "But because they forced me, eh!"
Katie and Sadie were then chuckling and talking aloud.
"But why are libraries called libraries if they are more like bookstores? I mean, they store books," said Katie, tilting her head.
"Don't be silly Katie. Then how would you call the place you buy books?"
"Book shops?"
"Mnm, you're right! You can have bookstores to keep books and bookshops to sell them," said Sadie clapping.
Noah then glared at Zeke. "Of course, because they're so intimidating."
"Ok, maybe it just slipped," said Zeke rubbing his neck ."But Katie is trustworthy and our friend, so she can help us look for the treasure."
"We don't know if this treasure exists," said Noah rubbing his temple, "And you're already sharing it with others."
"Well as they said, sharing is caring and friendship is caring," said Zeke trying to sing his line.
Noah blinked a couple of times. "Did you just rhyme caring with caring?"
"Yes, it's clever, eh?" said Zeke making finger guns.
"You don't want to hear my answer to your question," said Noah sitting at the table with the BFFFLs. "So, how much did Ezekiel tell about the map?"
"Not much, he just told us it was a mysterious map," said Katie folding her arms.
Sadie nodded, "And that you two found a way to decipher it and found it pointed to the hiding spot of a treasure here in Muskoka lake."
"Ok, that's enough," Noah pressed his nose bridge. "That's not totally true. We don't know if there is a treasure. We just have some coordinates that coincide with the lake."
"Eh!? So we don't know where it's buried?" said Zeke, scratching his head.
"No, we need to get a map of the lake, so we can determine the exact point," said Noah tapping the table. "So I need you to focus on finding a map without telling other people about this. Can you do that?"
Katie nodded. "Yes of course, leave it to us."
"But we'll also need shovels to dig up the treasure," said Sadie folding her arms.
"And an oxygen tank and goggles if it's underwater," said Zeke, rubbing his chin.
Noah raised both arms. "Slow down. Let's focus on the map first, ok?"
"OK!" shouted Katie, Sadie and Zeke, fist-pumping. Noah just shook his head, wondering why he accepted to do this.
Outside Lester was hearing them and writing down everything in a notebook.
"Damn, I can't believe the treasure is real," said the intern biting his tumble. "Once they decipher the map, I need to get it back."
After this, Lester went back to the kitchen as the ex-contestants went their own ways to look for a map.
Near the pool, Trent was tuning his guitar. The musician was wearing red trunks and sandals. Next to him was Justin, lying on a beach chair.
"Isn't it a little late to be tanning?" asked Trent, looking at the model.
"I'm not tanning, just enjoying the sunset," said the model, taking off his shades. "And are you playing the guitar again? Don't you get bored?"
Trent made a small smile. "No, I love to play guitar, and it also helps me relax and reflect on my decisions."
"And it's fun?"
"It's a lot of fun. Have you never tried to play an instrument?" asked Trent tilting his head.
Justin shook his head. "No, it looks like a hassle."
"But it isn't. I can teach you to play guitar if you want," said Trent, patting his guitar.
The male model didn't like the idea but lied for some reason. "I'll think about it."
As they talked, Cody walked toward them, still using his crutches.
"Hello fellow gophers!" said Cody, sitting in front of Trent and giving him a fist pump.
"If only Noah was here, we would be like the Gopher's version of the Beatles," said Trent, chuckling.
Justin groaned, "please don't mention his name, or he'll appear."
"Justin and Noah don't get along," whispered Cody, cupping his mouth with one hand.
"Really?" asked the musician raising an eyebrow.
Cody nodded. "Yes, they're always arguing and throwing mud at each other. It's quite awesome."
"You know I can hear what you're saying, right Cody?" asked Justin, making a small smile. He tried to not frown because frowning creates wrinkles.
"Hahaha, sorry, but you must accept it's funny how you're arguing all the time," Cody chuckled nervously.
"That ugly big-headed guy is always prattling about how smart and how much he read, and it's annoying," Justin rolled his eyes. "I can't accept someone with that face to be so arrogant."
Trent blinked a couple of times. "Are you saying if he was good-looking, it would be fine?"
"It wouldn't be fine, but at least I could accept it," Justin shrugged.
Cody and Trent laughed at Justin's joke, while Justin didn't understand what they found so funny.
"And dude, how is Gwen doing?" asked Cody, trying to not sound too interested and failing miserably.
Trent's expression darkened, and he almost dropped his guitar. "S-She was doing fine. We were doing fine until … the last challenge. I don't want to talk about it."
"C'mon bro, don't bottle it. Maybe we can help," said Cody putting his hand on his shoulder. "You mentioned last night that Heather did something, right? What happened?"
There was an awkward silence. Trent was embarrassed about what happened, but he wanted to get that off his chest, and Cody's words made him feel confident.
"During the last challenge, Lindsay went to meet me-"
"Lindsay? Man I thought you were after Gwen," Cody interrupted him, frowning, "but I guess Lindsay isn't that bad. She isn't Gwen, but she is also hot."
"No, it wasn't like that," said Trent, also frowning. "Lindsay wanted to talk with me about Heather-"
Cody's jaw dropped. "Oh, that sucks dude, and I guess Heather insulted Lindsay again, and she wanted your help."
"NO! She told me Heather was upset and crying and wanted my hel-" said Trent in a harsher toner, but Cody interrupted him again.
"Heather was upset and crying?" asked Cody raising an eyebrow. "I can't imagine her crying like that, but why did she call you? I mean you two weren't that close..."
"Can you shut up and just listen to his story?" asked Justin, smiling. "Your constant interruptions make me frown, and I hate frowning because it creates wrinkles."
Cody blushed and rubbed his neck, "hehe, sorry, please Trent, continue."
"I went to the docks and met Heather, she was crying and told me Gwen was being mean to her," said Trent, looking at the ground. Cody covered his own mouth and nodded.
Trent made a small smile. "She then told me Gwen didn't really like me and that she told the other girls during the past challenge I was a total cliché and that she didn't like my music."
"And you believe her?" asked Cody, glaring at him.
"I…" Trent lay forward, covering his head with both hands. "Yes, I believe her for a moment. I'm an idiot. I should know better what kind of person Heather is, but she was crying, and I…"
"You're an idiot," said Cody in a harsh tone.
The musician sighed. "It's as you said."
"And after that, I guess you went and met Gwen to ask her for an explanation," said Cody, folding his arms.
"Eh, not exactly," Trent's eyes darted back and forth. "Then Heather kissed me."
Both Cody and Justin groaned.
"Did you really kiss her? Man I thought you had standards," said Justin gagging.
"C'mon Dude, Heather is hot," said Cody, raising an eyebrow.
Justin frowned. "It doesn't matter if she's hot, that girl is a witch. I can't believe I'm saying this, but there are few occasions that you shouldn't kiss them even if they're attractive."
Cody and Trent looked at Justin with wide eyes, none of them expected that.
"Well, she kissed you. That's not that bad-" said Cody rubbing his chin.
"And Gwen saw us," said Trent, sighing sadly,
"Trent…" Cody said, his voice filled with disappointment.
"Lindsay probably called her. She saw Heather talking with me, and then the kiss… "
"Trent…" said Cody again, shaking his head.
"I just ruined my chances to be together…" said Trent, looking to the ground.
Justin raised a hand. "There is something that doesn't make sense. If what you said is true. Why were you eliminated instead of Heather?"
"Because Heather won immunity, she has the devil's luck," Trent covered his face with both hands.
"And did you talk things with Gwen?" asked Cody, looking coldly at the musician.
Trent took a moment to reply. "Gwen told me she didn't vote for me, and I wish her good luck. I tried to kiss her, but Chris interrupted us."
"So you two ended on good terms?" asked Cody, tilting his head.
"I'm not sure," Trent laid on his chair, "When we were talking, something felt off between us."
"But she didn't tell you were done?" Cody leaned forward to be closer to the musician.
"We can't be over because we never started anything," said Trent covering his eyes with his arm. "And after what happened, I'm not sure we would."
Cody stood silent for a minute. If Gwen didn't date Trent, then he still had a chance. However, that wasn't his style.
"If you want a piece of advice from a pro, you just need to wait for the next time you meet, and if she's still upset about what happened, apologize," Cody winked and made finger pistols. "I'm sure your feelings will reach her."
"How can you be so sure?" asked Trent, tilting his head.
Cody made a big grin. "I'm the Codemeister, remember? I'm a love expert."
Trent and Justin laughed, but for the musician, it was as if Cody took a big weight off his shoulders.
"Well, it's already dark, so I'll hit the sauna. Do you want to join me?" asked Justin, standing up.
"Of course. I love saunas," said Cody smiling. Trent gave him a hand and helped him stand up.
"Then let's go," said Trent, as the three began to walk to the gym, not noticing someone was watching them from the shadows.
"Well, I can always talk with Justin tomorrow," said Beth sighing. "I don't want to break Cody's heart, but it's for the best.
The next day Eva was waiting for Katie and Sadie in the hallway to do their daily workout. The strong woman was somehow used to the BFFFLs and Tyler company. But today, the girls were late.
"Sorry, Eva we overslept," said Sadie, waving at the strong woman.
"Yes, we stood late looking for a map and-" Katie explained until Sadie elbowed her.
Eva raised a side of her unibrow. "A map?"
"Katie meant a mop because I spilled a lot of juice on the floor," said Sadie making a big smile.
"You spilled a lot of juice in your room last night? Instead of eating in the cafeteria?" asked Eva, folding her arms.
"Yes?" replied Sadie, sweating a lot.
"The juice tastes a lot better in your room," Katie rubbed her stomach and forced a smile.
There was an awkward silence in the hallway. Eva was squinting at the BFFFLS, who were sweating beads.
"Whatever," said the European girl before going to the elevator.
The BFFFLs dried the sweat off their foreheads.
"By the way, do you want to hit the gym later? I need some help with my leg routine," said Eva as she entered the elevator.
Both BFFFL gasped.
"Sorry Eva, we have plans for this afternoon," said Sadie, pouting.
"Yes, we already agreed to look for a treasure, maybe tomorrow," said Katie, twiddling her fingers.
Eva blinked as Sadie face-slapped. It was clear Katie needed to sleep at least 8 hours.
In the cafeteria, Courtney was still watching the place and the snack bar like a falcon looking for her prey when someone greeted her.
"Wouldn't it be easier if you go and look for Harold instead of waiting like this," asked Noah sitting at the same table with some toasts, butter, and a black coffee.
"The resort it's too big, and to catch prey, it's better to use good bait. And these are the only sources of food in the resort. So this is the best way to catch him," Courtney raised her head proudly. "Also you missed the episode of Eva's second elimination."
"I can always watch it later. They're repeating the episodes all day," said Noah shrugging. "Did something happen?"
Courtney shook her head. "No. That Eva bullied Bridgette only because she used to be a Bass. They had to perform a lot of painful challenges, like going into a barrel filled with leeches or putting on a face mask of poison Ivy."
"Sounds fun! Such a shame I couldn't return to the game," said Noah in a snarky tone.
"Sarcasm aside, I should be there suffering those painful challenges. I would endure them … probably," said Courtney, her confidence disappearing with each word. "Anyway LeShawna beat Eva in the last challenge and got immunity."
"Heather was open for elimination, and they voted for Eva?" Noah raised an eyebrow, actually shocked by that development.
Courtney sighed. "You say that because you didn't watch the episode. She was totally out of control! Eva was harassing Bridgette all the time, shouting and threatening everyone. You would also vote for her if you were there."
"Maybe or maybe not," said Noah, shrugging. It was true that Eva was a time bomb at the beginning, but she learned to control her temper, right? Or maybe it was just Noah who got used to Eva's antics.
That possibility made a shiver run down Noah's spine.
"Well, Duncan voted for Heather," she said, making a small smile, "he thinks she was behind my elimination. He can be so sweet when he wants to…"
The Indian guy saw her so happy that it made him feel weird. Even a person so uptight and annoying could be happy. It was like when his oldest brother fell in love.
Noah shook his head, remembering the reason why he had started this conversation. "By the way, you're a CIT, right?"
"Are you mocking me?" asked Courtney, raising an eyebrow.
"Oh no, of course not. Ok, maybe a little," said Noah in a snarky tone to hide his shock at her answer. "Because I was curious about lake Wawanakwa and I was sure you, a smart and organized counselor, would bring one or two maps to this show."
Courtney blushed a little. "Your empty flattery is creepy, but you're right. I brought a couple of maps of the lake. But why should I lend them to you? It's not as if we're friends or anything."
Noah made an effort to hide his smirk. Courtney's personality was as he expected. Well, she was a little more polite, but that didn't change his script.
"Well, for starters, you would help a fellow human being," said Noah, smirking.
"After what happened with Harold, I lost my faith in humanity," said Courtney, folding her arms.
"I'll help you capture Harold."
Noah expected Courtney's pride to be so big that she would reject that proposal, so he would offer to bring her food during lunch for 2 weeks. However, he underestimated the CIT.
"Ok, I'll lend you the map, and you'll help me catch Harold," said Courtney offering Noah a handshake.
"What! Really?" asked Noah, his eyes wide as plates.
Courtney nodded. "Yes, even if you're an arrogant jerk, I admit you're smart, and even if I'm sure I can catch Harold alone, it'll be quicker and less tiresome if I get your help."
"Then you have a deal," said Noah shaking her hand.
"Now, I'll bring you the map. Just wait here," said Courtney standing up. "And if you see Harold, shout."
Noah made a lazy salute. "Yes ma'am."
Courtney pouted but went to her room while Noah waited. This was an unexpected development, but things were working. He just watched Lester go out of the kitchen and smile. All was going according to his plans.
After lunch, Zeke exercised a little with Tyler and went to the library to meet Noah and the BFFFLs. He was thinking about the map, not noticing someone looking at him around the corner ahead.
When Zeke reached the end of the hallway, the person crashed against him, dropping an empty bucket and a mop.
"Ouch," Zeke shook his head, "Sorry dude, I was distracted."
"Don't worry, man, it was also my fault," said Lester, rubbing his back. "oh, but if it's my great friend The Zeke."
Zeke took a moment to remember his new and cooler personality. "Yo, Homie, that's right, the one and only Zeke."
"What a coincidence. I was thinking of looking for you after I finished moping the hallways," lied Lester while making a wide smile.
"Really?" Zeke folded his arms, "well, look no more. The Zeke is on the floor."
Lester cringed at the rhyme but made an effort to not scream. "Anyway, it's about the map I sold you."
"Oh, yeah the map…" Zeke panicked, he was terrible at keeping secrets but Noah told him to not say anything about the map to more people. Now the Zeke was in trouble.
Sweating a lot and forcing a weird smile Zeke continued. "W-What about it?
"I want to repurchase it," said Lester rubbing his hands.
"Eh!? but what about your grandma?" asked Zeke, tilting his head.
"My grandma?"
"Yes, didn't you need the money to pay your grandma's hospital bills?"
Lester, face blanched. "Oh, oh yes, that … Well, my grandma is all better. She just suddenly got better. A total miracle."
"Oh I'm so glad!" said Zeke smiling. Lester sighed, relieved, but his happiness was short-lived.
"But even if your grandma is healthy, you need to pay the hospital bills all the same, don't you?"
"Oh," Lester clenched his teeth. Why was this idiot so smart? "Because it was a miracle the hospital forgave the bill as long as they could study my grandmother's body before leaving the hospital."
"Hey, that's cool, homie. Congratulations."
Lester dried the sweat from his forehead. "Thanks pal. Now about selling me the map back…"
"Sorry I can't do it," said Zeke shaking his head.
"What?" Lester glared at him. "I'll pay you the 700 dollars you gave me, no strings attached."
Zeke rubbed his neck. "Sorry, homie, but I really enjoy treasure hunting. My internal archaeologist is asking me to use the map."
"Ok, ok, I know I'm being unreasonable, but I really want it back. I'll give you 1000 dollars," said Lester, opening both hands. "300 more for wasting your time."
It was a good offer, any person would accept it. But Zeke thought about all the work he and Noah put into deciphering and how enthusiastic were Katie and Sadie about it. Maybe the treasure was all rubbish, but money wasn't the most important thing in life.
"Sorry, but I'm not interested," said Zeke bowing. "Now excuse me I have an appointment. See you at dinner."
"No, wait!" said Lester, stretching his arm. "I'll pay you 1500. It's more than double what you paid for it."
Zeke waved at him. "Sorry homie, no it's no," and keep running toward the library.
Lester's face turned red, with a vein pulsing on his temple.
"Stupid redneck, but I'll get the map by fate or by fool," said the intern, throwing the mop against the floor, but the mop bounced and hit him in the face. "Ouch! But first, I'll go to the infirmary."
Zeke entered the library, where Noah was pressing his nose's bridge while Katie and Sadie talked about Justin, and Eva was exercising with one of her dumbells.
"Yoyoyo, the Zeke in on da house," said Ezekiel, pulling a chair with one leg and accidentally knocking it down. He nervously picked it up again and sat on it, trying to do it in a cool way.
He then realized Eva was there.
"Eva yo, nice to meet yo," said Zeke forcing the rhyme.
The European woman rolled her eyes. "That's the lamest thing you have done Homeschooled. I think it's a new record."
"I know you mispronounced coolest, but no pro sis, everyone makes mistakes," said Zeke making rap-like movements.
"You're right. That's a new lowest," said Eva shaking her head. "So Egghead, now that homeschooled is here, what's all this about a treasure?"
Noah sighed and gave a death glare to Katie and Sadie.
"It was a really silly accident," said Katie forcing a smile, while Sadie just shrugged.
"Anyway," said Noah sighing. "I got a map of the lake, so with this and the coordinates we decipher, we can determine the treasure's location."
Katie, Sadie, and Ezekiel cheered while Eva raised a side of her unibrow. "And that treasure exists?"
There was a small and awkward silence that contrasted with the former cheerful atmosphere.
"We don't know," said Noah, shrugging. "Our rapper wannabe got the riddles, and after some deciphering, we got some numbers. Translating them into coordinates is a point in lake Muskoka. Maybe it's a coincidence, and there is nothing there, or maybe it's an actual treasure."
"So it may be a waste of time," said Eva, smirking.
"Exactly so if you-"
"It's not as if I have something better to do," Eva shrugged. "So, where is the treasure?"
Noah put the map on the table. It was a professional map with markings, coordinates, scale, and orientation. It also showed all the docks around Muskuoka lake and the islands inside it.
"Wow, homie, I just skipped a beat. Where did you find a map so complete?" said Zeke, moving his arms like a rapper.
"Just try to rhyme one more time homeschooled, and I swear I'll kick you all the way to Wawanakwa island," said Eva waving her fist.
Zeke covered his mouth and nodded.
"It doesn't matter where I got the map. If the coordinates are correct, we'll find the treasure around this side of the lake," Noah pointed to a zone that made everyone blanch.
"Boney Island," said the BFFFLs at the same time.
Noah nodded, "yes, the beach or the waters near the island. If you want, we can give up now."
"Ha!" said Eva before anyone could reply. "It's just a silly island. There is nothing to be afraid of."
"T-the island is filled with monsters, we went there for a challenge and was really dangerous," said Sadie, her voice trembling.
"T-That sounds scary," said Katie, hugging her best friend.
Eva scoffed. "I know, I watched that episode, but now that you got me into this, we'll do it. I won't give up only for some stupid beavers or overgrown geese."
"Then it's … decided," Ezekiel gulped, "we only need to be careful, eh!"
"We need to get ready. Let's prepare to depart tomorrow. Today another loser's coming, so Chef will be watching us more carefully," said Noah, looking at the other 4 ex-contestants. "Katie and Sadie, we need provisions. Ezekiel, we need a shovel. I'll take care of the boat."
"Sir, yes sir," said the BFFFLs at the same time, saluting. Then they laughed and hugged each other.
"What about me, egghead?"
"Eva, you just need to come ready to help us. Your work starts when we arrive at the island," said Noah, smirking.
Eva scoffed, "whatever."
"And just remember, don't tell anyone else, ok? We don't want to share this with too many people," Noah gave a death glare to the BFFFLs.
"Don't worry, we won't tell anyone else," said Sadie, nodding.
"Yes, trust us, Eva was the last one," said Katie, forcing a smile.
Zeke nodded. "And don't sell the map either, eh!?"
There was an awkward silence in the room.
"What do you mean by that?" asked Noah, raising an eyebrow.
"The Zeke means what the Zeke said, to not sell the map. The person who sold me the map offered to buy it again," Zeke said, folding his arms and smiling. "But I refused it."
Noah's jaw dropped. "Why did you refuse the offer?"
"Because it's more exciting to find the treasure ourselves, eh!" Zeke raised his face proudly.
"I guess it's ok," said Noah covering his face and sighing. "You rejected real money for a chance with a dubious map that may or may not lead us to a treasure."
"Exactly homie, The Zeke knows where his loyalties are," said Ezekiel, as the BFFFLs cheered.
"The Zeke is so cool," said Katie and Sadie in a happy tone.
Noah shook his head. "Yes so cool. Let's finish our small gathering here. The new loser should arrive soon."
The 5 agreed and began to leave the room, with Noah walking in the opposite direction.
"Where are you going homie?" asked Zeke, scratching his head.
"Bathroom, and no, I don't want to go together," said Noah in a cold tone, glaring at the homeschooled boy.
Zeke raised both arms defensibly. "Ok, ok. I was just asking." He began to walk again toward the resort's lobby, mumbling. "I hate how he can read other people's minds."
Noah began to walk faster. He didn't have much time, so he needed to find this person quickly, but luck was on his side.
"Hello, can we talk for a minute," said Noah smirking, once he found the person he was looking for.
Most ex-contestants were waiting for the next loser in the lobby, only Noah and Harold hadn't arrived yet. Trent was sitting with Cody, Justin, and Courtney. Eva, the BFFFLs, and Beth were on the couch next to them while Tyler and Zeke, waited at the resort's door.
"Dude, I hope it isn't Lindsay," said Tyler biting his nails.
"Don't worry, homie, your gal will be fine," said Zeke, winking weirdly. "… probably."
Tyler raised an eyebrow, not really comforted. "Thanks?"
"You're welcome," Zeke spun in his place and tried to make finger pistols but stumbled and fell to the ground.
While Tyler helped him, Courtney kept complaining.
"And where is Harold? Aren't we supposed to be here waiting for the eliminated contestants?" asked Courtney folding her arms.
"Technically not, I think we wait because we want, but we don't need to," said Cody, shrugging. "Also, shouldn't you forgive Harold? Even if you beat him, you won't be back to the game."
Courtney gave him a dirty look. "I know, but it's just a matter of fairness and justice. I can't believe he did something like that."
"Even then, there is no use in getting angry," said Trent, smoothly waving his arms. "That negative energy only hurts yourself."
"Don't patronize me," said Courtney folding her arms. "But I'll think about it."
"It's coming!" shouted Tyler in an excited voice.
The BFFFLs, Cody, and Beth went to see the boat of losers while the others just watched from the lobby.
"And who is the new loser?" asked Noah as he entered the lobby.
"We don't know yet," replied Eva, glaring at him.
The ex-contestants looked at the boat with wide eyes. This time the boat of losers was towing a smaller boat with the new loser sitting alone on it, with her bag and surfing board.
"Bridgette!?" shouted Courtney, jumping from her couch and running toward the dock.
"Hahaha, It was about time they booted that traitor," said Eva, laughing loudly.
The blonde girl got down from her boat with a sad smile on her face.
"Bridge, what happened," Courtney hugged her but immediately jumped back. "Ugh! you stink."
"Yes, a skunk attacked me, and the boys eliminated me," Bridgette looked at the floor.
Courtney's jaw dropped. "Geoff voted for you?"
"No, Geoff didn't."
"That stupid Neanderthal, I can't believe he focused on you," said Courtney cracking her knuckles.
"Don't get angry. It's only a game," said Bridgette putting a hand on her friend's shoulder.
Courtney took out a handkerchief and covered her mouth. "You need to take a tomato bath right now, or you'll stink your room. Come with me."
The CIT took her friend and both ran down the hallway. Bridgette could only wave at the rest before disappearing into the resort. Zeke waved back at her, not knowing what to do.
"Did you just let that traitor run away?" asked Noah in a snarky tone.
"Of course, she stinks. There is no way I'll hit her while she smells like that," said Eva, shuddering. "I can always give her a lesson later."
Eva smiled, causing a shiver to run down Noah's spine.
While this happened inside the resort, Chef was about to go back to the island.
"Damn kids, and I need to go to the junkyard to look for cheap parts for the next challenge. It isn't my damn fault that we're over the budget," said Chef as he untied the small boat from the boat of losers.
"Mr. Hatchet sir, do you have a moment," said Lester, walking toward the boat and rubbing his hands.
Chef rolled his eyes. "Sorry kiddo, I don't have time. I have been hunting people all day, and all I want is to go back to my room and sleep."
"I just wanted to tell you that I quit," said the intern bowing exaggeratedly. "Thanks for your help and guidance these past days."
"WHAT!?" Chef looked at the intern as if he was a ghost. "NO! You can't do that? I mean, you can't make that decision without thinking. If there is something you don't like, we can talk about it."
"Sorry Mr. Hatchet, my decision is final. I'll stay here tomorrow, but I recommend you to look for a replacement soon," said Lester, faking a sad smile. After saying that, he turned toward the resort and walked away.
Chef punched the boat's rail. "DAMN IT! And here I thought this intern would stay at least the whole week. Another damn expense."
As the boat of losers went away, the ex-contestants began to go to sleep. Courtney was in the gym helping Bridgette with her bath. But there was another person awake in the resort beside them.
Harold entered the cafeteria and opened the fridge, taking a sandwich.
"Damn, I'm basically fasting right now. If I can't find a way to calm Courtney, I'll start suffering adverse effects on my sleep cycle and health. But how can I win her forgiveness without suffering any damage?" said the redhead to no one in particular.
He continued eating, not noticing someone entering the kitchen.
"Courtney is bossy, hardheaded, but rational. The problem is that she won't give me enough time to apologize, much less to explain the reasoning behind my actions. Damn Duncan, this is all his fault," Harold continued his monologue, waving his fist at the roof.
Then a sound startled him. Harold jumped and hid behind the counter, trembling in fear.
After a moment, he looked over the counter. There was a single squirrel that knocked down a chair.
"Ah it's just a Sciurus carolinensis. How silly of me to think it was actually Courtney. Even then, I must be careful. Those small friends can transmit more than 5 different diseases," said Harold in a teacher-like tone. "Also, these days, avoiding people are taking a toll on my mental health. My inner dialogues usually aren't aloud."
Harold kept looking at the small squirrel, not noticing he wasn't the only one in the cafeteria. At least he won't notice it until it was too late.
But that it's a story for another time.
Bridgette is here and she was taken quite quickly by Courtney. At the same time, our treasure hunters get more and more people in. Does the treasure exist? I guess we will find out together.
The episode develops a little with the treasure hunters growing in number and some of the side plots developing. Can Beth find a moment to start flirting with Justin? And what found Harold in the kitchen? Many questions with few answers.
And as always, thanks for the reviews. This is one of the things that motivate me to write every week. So please share with me your thoughts, opinions, or questions about the chapter or past chapters. OR if reviewing is not your style, leave a favorite in the story so I know you're enjoying it. So before closing let me answer the last week's reviews:
danifan3000: The question is if he can hide until then. And about the playa episode, I have something planned but you will have to wait to find out.
gman5846: Yes, Courtney was so anxious about Duncan voting for her that she just snapped. But Harold was a smart guy. That's why he escaped.
Total Simaniac: I wanted to show Zeke turning into a rapper wannabe, and from 2007 I thought Kanye West was the best option, and I loved Stronger when I was looking for hip-hop songs from 2007 it was an easy choice. Zeke has changed and grown, but probably not in the right direction.
And Lester is still there, he is quite a special intern, or more like a former intern because he will quit. I guess he also believes the treasure is real. If that's true or not we will find out eventually.
Michael Coote1: Sadly Courtney kidnapped the surfer girl, but you will find out about Zeke and Bridgette in the next episode.
MatiasND: First thanks for taking the time to read and review, there is no short review if you put heart on it ;). I hope soon the days become less frantic and you can rest a little more
Yes, poor Harold, but he should have think a little more about it. About Lester you will find out soon. And lastly, yes, Trent and Cody will be interacting a few times ;)
Thanks for reading and I hope you like it.
