Underground Spirits
Chapter 4: Why Are We Fighting?
MK's Point of View:
"Don't ya know how dangerous that was, ya punk?! They're dangerous humans yer following after! Ya need to stay away from them while I capture them and bring 'em to the king. Hey! Are ya even listening to me?!"
I dangled from over Undyne's armored shoulder, and at any other moment I'd be screeching to the roof of the underground how happy I was. But that… it wasn't a moment a could be happy about! My idol! She… she was chasing down my friends and hurting them! Hunting them!
Mom always warned me about just how dangerous it would be for Angel and Frisk to be found by Captain Undyne. I never understood why she hated them so much. Our friends were kind, they were good! They'd never done a bad thing! Well… maybe Frisk did when she lied about how much she ate and then tried to wolf down a few sweets, but that wasn't that bad, right?! Not compared to what was going on!
Undyne was trying to capture them for their souls to lift the barrier, so we could all see the sun, the above world, to take back what was lost to us when humans apparently moved us down into the underground… But… why did we have to fight. I didn't want to fight anyone! But the king wants to fight all the humans on the surface if we get free? But what if their as nice as Angel and Frisk?
I didn't want anyone to get hurt, which is why I wouldn't let Undyne get them!
At that moment exactly, I was grabbed by my shirt and pulled down to the entrance to Waterfall closer to Snowdin. I'm sure Undyne would have loved to take me all the way back to my parents' house. She knew who they were and spoke with them on occasion. But since she wanted to go back to Frisk and Angel really quickly, she set me down a lot earlier.
"Alright Punk, ya listen here, and listen good." Her head was vacant of her armor while she leaned down to talk to me. "Go home. Don't ya dare come after me or those humans, ya hear me?"
"You're not listening to me!" I shouted back at her. Any other time I knew she's be impressed, but not then. She wasn't happy as I was shown a scowl. "Those are my friends your trying to hurt!"
"Humans aren't friends!"
"Yes they are! They're nice to me! They didn't hurt me ever!"
"Go home!"
"NO!"
I hadn't used my powers in a really long time, but I had no choice if I wanted to help Angel and Frisk in those moments. My light magic I used as hard as I could to radiate and my body glowed so brightly that everything was a bright white light. I had enough sense to slide backward before Undyne could reach out and grab me with herself blinded.
"Raaaahhhh!"
I only had seconds to act!
I dove for a small tunnel that only small kids could make it down, or adults if they were crawling on their hands and knees. I hurried down it before cutting off my magic and bolting down as fast as I could, ignoring the cries and the screeching behind me while trying to catch back up with Angel and Frisk.
I had to save them! I had to!
I didn't want to lose my friends!
Later That Night:
I hadn't seen Undyne in too long while I ran. I didn't dare stop since I hadn't seen either of them. I could run into Undyne or Angel at any point.
Don't stop running! Keep running!
My soul beat so fast while I kept moving. My magic was probably the only thing keeping me going while I was trying to search for them.
The heavy clank of armor, however, stopped me for only a second. I skidded to a stop just as the secret passageway I'd exited a short while ago connected close to the Eastern Botanical Gardens. I was in the main tunnels again, desperately looking for my friends.
But when I rounded the corner, it was Undyne I saw who was breathing just as heavily as me…
"Shit!"
I took off the second I could think. My little legs were still growing and not nearly as long as hers, so I was pushing myself so hard to keep away from her, rushing toward the gardens. I'd hoped that Angel and Frisk had already passed through the area.
"Come back here you little shit!"
"No!"
Defiantly I kept running. I kept making noise in hopes that Angel and Frisk would hear us to hide. I couldn't let them get caught. I had to do everything I could to save them!
Why didn't they just listen to me when I told them to go home?! What was wrong with Angel?
But I saw it back then when I caught her in Waterfall square. She was really upset, and so was Frisk. Both of them hardly talked to me other then what they had to. Was there a fight back home? Did she get mad at Sans or Pap? Or did one of them get angry with the girls? It was so frustrating, but like Mom always said, 'if something bad happens, you just have to keep moving forward. Don't let it stop you.'
If something bad did happen. I knew Frisk and Angel would protect each other… but Undyne wasn't easy to work with…!
And then something I was afraid of seeing came to be. Just up ahead when I made it into another chamber that was right before the research center did I see Frisk running off ahead of Angel across the bridge while the older sister watched out. I saw her eyes widen when she saw me.
We caught up…. No!
"RUN!" My screeching cry echoed out and I knew Undyne was racing to keep up behind me the second she heard me utter anything different then my normal 'No!' at her to make noise.
I'm sorry! I couldn't do more!
"Go Frisk!"
I barely saw in my vision how Frisk had made it to the other side safely with Angel hot on her heels. I saw them both make it when my feet made it to the bridge and began making my way across. The rope and wooden bridge was hard to get my feet planted safely on as it rocked unsteady like back and forth. I felt my body be hurled. My feet came out from under me. My body slammed against the bridge before I was rocketed from it.
I could barely control the scream as I was catapulted from the bridge so easily while Undyne and Angel watched me from either side, eyes wide, and I felt like everything was moving in such slow motion.
I didn't even have time to scream….
"MK!"
Angel's cry carried over the cavern before a flash of red barely caught my attention. I felt her chain like magic wrap around me and instantly halt my decent into the abyss below that was protruding spikes. Inches away from my face sat a single spike that would have impaled me. I gulped, not really hiding a surprised squeak.
Everything was still in those moments. Angel was holding me tightly with her magic. I was safe while Undyne froze on the other side of the bridge. She carefully watched the interaction, probably figuring out how to save me from Angel.
But there wasn't any need…
Angel slowly pulled me back upward to above where the bridge was. Then her magic carefully pushed in in the direction of where Undyne was. On her side of the bridge I was placed down ever so gently a few feet from the edge so that I would be a distance away from them. Once I was down safely and my feet steady on the ground, her magic unwrapped from around me and I turned to see her.
It was the first time all night that Angel had smiled. Her appearance almost blinding in appreciation and pride as she looked at me.
Tears welled in my eyes then that I couldn't wipe away as I watched her. "Angel!"
"MK!" She hollered back with her magic still all over the area, Undyne still hadn't moved, most likely in some sort of form to protect me now that Angel wasn't near me and I was by the captain of the royal guard. "You've done more than I ever could have asked for! Be safe!"
Just as her words came over the cavern did her magic move. Undyne dove to protect me, but it wasn't me the magic was after. Angel brought her chains down on the heavy bridge that connected the two pieces of rock like pathways. The bridge shattered under her command, falling in pieces below.
It was going to be harder for Undyne to chase them! Yes!
"You better come home!"
It was the last thing I shouted before I knew there wasn't anything else I could do for them. I hurried back through the caverns and headed back to Snowdin in order to help them by finding people who could help.
Mom, Dad, Sans and Papy.
Early the Next Morning:
"MOM! DAD! SOMEONE! HELP!"
I screamed out in the town center. No one was up yet. It was about six when I made it home and tried to bang on Sans and Pap's door. I tried for almost half an hour before smoke tried to escape out from under the door. I looked inside and everything was covered in smoke.
The house was on fire!
I tried using my magic to flash all over the place for someone to see! The house was on fire! I didn't know if Sans and Pap were still home!
Oh no! What if someone was hurt?!
And I didn't even know about Angel and Frisk! I knew they had some distance between them and Undyne, but I had no idea if they were able to escape. Undyne was determined, and she knew how to get around that bridge if she had to…
"MK?!"
Out of my house did the door finally fly open after I'd tried opening it with my teeth for a long time. But it had been locked and I had no arms for either a key or anything to use. I couldn't grab the spare that was hidden in the winter baskets my mother made.
"Mom!" I screeched as I ran to her. Finally, someone was up and noticed.
"What in the world were you doing outside! Were you out all night?!" She screeched out and soon I saw movement inside as Dad came down too along with Will. I didn't see Milly yet. She must have still been asleep. "What were you thinking!? Why didn't you gather a guard member to get you inside?! Oh young man you are in so much trouble-!"
"Angel and Frisk left town in the middle of the night!" I couldn't let my mother overtalk me as I near screamed over her. "Undyne chased them to Hotland!"
"What?!"
"Pap and Sans' house is on fire too!"
"B-what?!" My mother flew out over the steps of our home to see black smoke making its way out of the doors and windows into the sky. She stared at it all for a few moments before rushing into action. "Robert! Sans' and Papy's place is on fire! I'll call the guard! We need to make sure everyone is okay!"
My father went charging out the door at that command of my mother. She yanked me back inside the house quickly while she got to the phone calling up the nearby posts. My mother was talking a mile a minute while asking me questions as she waited.
All of them… they had to be okay… right?
Please be okay…
Witch's Note:
Oh my! What a chapter! I feel like we're almost starting to have a pattern here! A good chapter, an intense chapter! Another lovely idea of Raspberies123, which was MK's point of view during the Undyne chase! I hope this lives up to the expectations you all had!
But how about we look at some reviews!
Shadow8Phantom: Hey there Phantom! I'm glad you got the reviews I gave you for the little snit bits you wrote! I loved reading them and can't wait for you to give out some more when you're ready! It was such an interesting take on what could happen in the third chapter of the game. And I see you got Chaos to review as well! Hopefully we came both help you as you keep writing!
And before I forget, Mystic Girl is gonna check it out when she doesn't have to watch three-thousand children.
Thechaosmaster: Yes, wasn't that embarrassing? XD Can you believe just how terrible Sans can be? Granted, you haven't seen nothing yet until the next story, but you'll see Sans and Angel not holding back when it comes to the love they have for one another!
I'm glad you're liking these little special stories from different people in the underground! I'm to keep up the work on this so you can see some amazingly different styles!
MysticBoywastaken: (I gasp) Mystic Boy! Was that a naughty joke? Oh my! (I'm giggling in the background behind my hand.)
Mystic Girl: (Her jaw dropped to the floor.) What the fuck? Where did that come from?!
Me: Well, I suppose Mystic Boy has his own secrets, wouldn't you agree?
Mystic Girl: (She stands there, totally unable to compute what is going on. Her entire face appears as if the color has drained from it and she looks almost ready to pass out from how hard she is thinking!)
Dasansi: Hey! You made it! So good to see you! You are fashionably late my friend! Now make sure to do your best on those tests! I'm posting every Saturday like I always do unless stated otherwise, okay? It will be the same with the other story!
And I'm glad you're loving the chapters, and I'm so happy you love the Asgore one. Asgore I always felt was never able to act out any true feelings of his own, either bound by duty or his own kindness. But even those limitations have their ends. I really wanted to portray the struggle of Asgore and dealing with those decisions as well as his own suffering that he was never able to heal from. He was never truly able to move past anything because he's had to bury it for the sake of the kingdom. You honestly said it best when you noted "It reminds you that being royalty, especially in times of war and recovering from it, is not a privilege, it is a thankless responsibility that you must do."
Phew! Welp! That's a wrap folks! Another week down and I got more material coming soon! Winter will soon be on its way and I can't wait for that since things will slow down and I'll be working a little less then before so hopefully I can do some solid writing! I got so much for you guys to see that I can't honestly wait for getting more written so you can see other styles I have or more of what this genre will bring! Because I'm not done with Angel and Sans yet!
Love you all and see you next week!
Halloween Witch and Mystic Girl
