The rest of the afternoon Rocky and Yeshe spent time with Kang. Rocky had asked Kang if he would explain the history and basic teachings required to serve as a Guardian. At first Kang was reluctant but he couldn't deny that Rocky's enthusiasm was infectious and made him remember his own eagerness to learn when he was a pup.

"Ok Rocky," started Kang, "I am the Guardian that recommended you so I get to choose your guardian name. After much thought I have chosen 'Dharmapala." You may use it as you choose but definitely for any ceremonial purposes it would be expected."

"Dharmapala," said Rocky, then suddenly with wide eyes he said, "That means protector. Do you really think I deserve such a strong name?"

"Rocky you proved that you are willing to sacrifice yourself to protect your mate," said Kang, "But you equally have a desire to protect the land. I had told Ryder this but will repeat it for you. Canines have always been the guardians assigned to protect the Great One's creations. Dogs protect and serve humans. Wolves protect and serve nature. You strive to protect both, I'd say that earns you the name."

Rocky had tears in his eyes and he turned to Yeshe who also had tears in her eyes as well. They both turned back to Kang. "T-thank You, Kang," Rocky choked out.

"You're more than welcome," said Kang, "On your mind alone I would follow you into battle, your strength comes from within and is far more important than big muscles. Anyway, a little history… Kang went on to explain the temples and basic understandings of Buddhism and their teachings. Then he began to explain the purpose of the Mastiffs. The Mastiffs have been a part of the monasteries from before written history was begun. The earliest writings go back as far as 1100 B.C. Some Tibetans believe that Tibetan Mastiffs have the souls of monks and nuns who did not make it into Shambhala, the heavenly paradise. It was actually European explorers in the mid 1800's that named our breed Tibetian Mastiffs, before we were just called Temple Dogs. It was originally our task to protect the monks, monasteries, and temples from bears, wolves, and snow leopards. It was later that we were used in battle. We have been especially bred to adapt to the high altitudes of the Himalayas and Tibetan Plateaus. Our blood is able to carry more oxygen and avoid high altitude hypoxia."

"Wow," said Rocky, "I guess I never thought about the fact that living at that altitude would require adaptation over time."

"It is pretty amazing," agreed Kang, "Studies have been done to find that our breed and certain wolves have developed into a specialized arctic breed that can survive in high altitudes and extreme cold temperatures. We had served the temple for centuries and when it became apparent that the need to protect the buildings specifically was passing, the Guardians began getting assigned or presented to individual monks or groups of monks as guardian / companions like Yeshe and myself. We were still trained as temple guardians but it is expected that we serve our masters."

"But Toby doesn't like Yeshe calling him master," said Rocky.

"Lin doesn't either," laughed Kang, "But it's hard to deprogram trained in mindsets. The problem stems from the fact that some previous masters mistreated their dogs or even expected them to serve as slaves. That of course was not the intent and when discovered those individuals were harshly punished."

"You mean they were thrown out of the monasteries?" asked Rocky

"No, I mean they were thrown off cliffs," said Kang, matter of factly.

Rocky stared at him with wide eyes.

"Seriously," said Kang, "The temple honors the deeds of their dogs highly and abuse is worthy of death. Obviously neither Tony nor Lin see us as tools to be used and abused, they see us and we see them as friends and family, and you're part of that family as well."

"There is so much history of your breed," said Rocky, "It must be nice to know what breed you are. There is no history about mixed breeds that ever made a difference."

"That's actually not true," said Kang. "Have you ever heard of Sinbad?"

"You mean the sailor," said Rocky, "from children's stories?"

"That's where the name probably came from," said Kang, "but no, I mean the US Coast Guard Dog."

"Well then no," said Rocky.

"He was a mixed breed that was brought aboard the USCGC Campbell in 1936," said Kang, "He became an actual crew member and obtained the rank of K9C Chief Dog. He served as a crew member throughout World War II. He actually was assigned positions on his ship and served 11 years. When he died in 1951 he was buried with full military honors. He is listed in the top 10 most historical dogs. He is just one of many but he is definitely the most historical mixed breed."

"Wow, I had no idea," said Rocky, "how do you know that?"

"Actually I've had this same conversation with Mituda," said Kang. "I did a little research and found several mixed breed dogs that accomplished great things. Mixed Breed is such a horrible term. To some mixed breed is a bad name, but think of the celebrated mixed breeds. Your own team mate Skye, by definition a Cockapoo is a mixed breed. There are literally hundreds of various mixed breeds; they are just as loyal, just as loving, and have nothing whatsoever to prove to anyone that they are worthy of the same love as any other breed."

Kang turned looking at Rocky who had tears running down his muzzle. Yeshe hugged him and Kang hugged the two of them.

"I think that's enough history for today," said Kang. "I'm hungry."

They laughed and headed to the kitchen to grab a snack.

*** Later that evening ***

The pups, Ryder, and Katie were sitting in the TV room watching a movie.

"So Katie," said Ryder, "Are you ready to start school in the fall?"

"Yes," said Katie, "I am so looking forward to classes. I expect to learn so much. In only a few short years I'll be a vet."

"So now that you aren't going away," said Rocky, "I guess Cali won't have to be boarded while you're in class."

"Oh, I actually wasn't too worried about that," said Katie, "Wildcat said he would take care of her while I was gone."

"What?" said Chase, "We hardly ever get to see him. Is he coming to see you for grooming?"

"Oh he comes to see Cali," said Katie, "Didn't you know?"

"What?" said all the pups, pausing the TV.

"Wildcat is seeing Cali?" asked Skye.

"They've been going out for a while now," laughed Katie.

"Even I didn't know that," said Ryder.

"How does that work since Wildcat can talk," said Rubble, "and Cali can't."

"But she can talk," said Katie. "She just doesn't speak that often. She's actually kind of stuck up about speaking."

"Whaaattt!" said Marshall, "Cali can speak? I have never heard her speak."

"Like I said," laughed Katie, "She's kind of stuck up about it. Maybe hanging around Wildcat she'll loosen up some."

Months went by and the pups came.

Yeshe had three pups, a male, a female, and another male. The third was smaller and looked almost identical to Rocky. The other two had mixed markings but the frame of their mother.

They named the first pup Namkha (Sky) because of his sky blue eyes, a little lighter than his mother, the Female Gyal-Tso (Ocean) because of her deep blue eyes just like her mother, and the third Karuna (Empathy or Compassion) because even at a young age he made sure his sister ate first and watched over all the other pups and immediately began watching over Everest's pup Lizzy when brought to feed .

Mudita only had one male pup but it looked just like Kang with Madita's frame. They named him AtrirakSaka (Night Watcher) because he seemed to be the last to sleep and first to rise, always watching over the other pups.

Everest and Marshall had looked for months before finding a female husky mix, she appeared to be German Shepherd / Husky Mix. The shelter had named her Lizzy. Her new parents decided to keep her name as she had been in the shelter for a few months since she was found abandoned in a national park. The story had been that a vehicle stopped and threw her out of the vehicle driving away quickly. When the rangers finally found her she had been cowering near a dumpster. When Everest saw her, she had an instant connection and quickly fell in love with her. Lizzy appeared to be only weeks old when she was abandoned making her only a few weeks older than the other pups.

The pups had been placed in the nursery at the Lookout. The parents often sat in the nursery watching over the group of pups. Yeshe had enough milk to feed Lizzy as well so she quickly began growing along with the others.

The pups all immediately formed a bond among themselves. True to his name as they grew and began moving around more and more, Karuna seemed to have decided he would watch over Lizzy and never left her side for very long.

"Is is too early to think that those two are going to end up together?" Yeshe Asked Everest one day.

"Funny, I was thinking the same thing," laughed Everest.

"I think you pup has declared himself her protector," said Marshall.

"He definitely seems to have taken a liking to her," said Rocky. "I know it early in their lives, but are we looking at the future paw patrol?"

"It's hard not to see certain mannerisms in them even at this age," said Marshall. "I think AtrirakSaka plans on taking Chase's position as Overall protector and leader. I think Lizzy will be alot like her mom, we'll just wait and see if she has more Husky or Shepherd in her."

"Yeah, But I'm not sure it seems like Gyal-Tso and Karuna have split Rocky's personality," said Yeshe. "With Karuna's care and compassion he's going to be a very loving pup I think. But Gyal-Tso seems very intelligent and able to figure out patterns quickly. I know it's too soon to tell but their names sure seem to fit already."

It was time to nurse again. Yeshe and Mudita both laid down and allowed the pups to nurse. Rocky and Marshall stepped out to get some air and see if the others were playing anything.

Skye walked in and found Yeshe and Mudita nursing with Everest keeping them company.

"Oh, sorry I can come back," said Skye

"No," said Yeshe "you're more than welcome. Heck the boys are welcome, but always seem to find somewhere else to be."

"I know I'm not a mother yet but I wanted to come hang out with you," said Skye.

"Skye, are you feeling mommy urges?" asked Everest.

"I am," whispered Skye, "I know we were right in waiting, but I can't help but feel left out."

"Skye, you are every bit a part of this," said Yeshe. "If you don't want to wait, talk to Chase. I'm sure he's feeling the same. But just know, you may not be a mother yourself, but you will play a key role in the pup's upbringing."

"And then when you decide to have pups," said Mudita, "your pups will have a bunch of older cousins, would it be? Or are we family enough to just call them siblings."

The girls all laughed.

"I don't know," laughed Everest, "I get the feeling we can't call them siblings or it will seem weird when Karuna decides he really won't give up Lizzy."

The girls laughed at that as well. Katie walked in to check on everyone.

"Hey Girls," said Katie, "I thought I'd pop in and check on the pups and moms."

"Hey Katie," said Yeshe, "Everyone seems to be doing good. We'll be finished shortly. If you can keep them awake you're welcome to check the pups."

"Are you about ready for the pups to start eating real food?" asked Katie.

"I sure am," laughed Mudita, "AtrirakSaka's teeth are sharp, (she winched, as he nipped her)"

"Same here," laughed Yeshe.

Everest sighed.

"Everest," said Katie "You know you can still have a pup if you choose to."

"I know," said Everest, "I really am happy that we adopted Lizzy. I just am missing a part of the mothering process."

"You know,' explained Katie, "Just because you're not producing milk, doesn't mean you can't bond with your daughter the same way."

"I know," said Everest, "I'm doing that and it helps. She's too young to understand she was abandoned so young. I still can't believe someone would throw out such a beautiful little girl."

"Everest," said Skye, "Everyone here will be telling your stories to their pups of how you saved a pup from abandonment and brought her to a loving home. I think we might be surprised to find how much she is aware of being left behind. You may be the only mother she remembers but you will teach her how to love a pup regardless."

"Thanks Skye," said Everest, "I know I can rely on all of you to help both of us overcome our pasts."

The girls continued talking while outside the guys had gathered under a tree enjoying the warmth of the day while they talked.

"So, how's the father life treating you two?" asked Chase.

"It's so great," said Marshall, "Even though Everest is very happy with us adopting, I think she might be having mother pains for a pup of her own."

"Would you still consider having a pup after Lizzy gets a little older?" asked Rubble.

"Possibly," said Marshall, "Everest just needs to prove to herself that she can be a good mom. I know she'll be great, but until she realizes it, she won't be ready."

"I think Yeshe is becoming a great mom," said Rocky, "She obviously loves the pups. But you can see how proud she is of them already."

"So has anyone noticed that Lizzy is fuzzy like a husky but has markings like a German Shepherd?"

"Yes, the breed is referred to as a 'Shepsky'" said Rocky, who because of Kang had been researching mixed breeds.

"I still can't see why anyone would throw out a pup like they did," said Rubble. "I can't imagine what she would have felt."

"Confusion, fear, bitter aloneness," said Chase.

Everyone turned to Chase.

"Sorry Chase," said Rubble, "I didn't think about your past. You were old enough to remember being dropped on a curb."

"It's ok Rubble," said Chase, "Ryder and you guys are the best thing that could have happened. The fact that Marshall and Everest saved a pup from that fear gives me a warm feeling."

"So Rocky are you going to teach your pups to swim and not be afraid of the water?" asked Marshall.

"I think Uncle Zuma can do that," laughed Rocky.

"Yeah I'll only charge you half price for classes," said Zuma.

"What?" said Rocky, "You'd charge family for classes?"

"It's free if you teach them and I supervise," laughed Zuma.

"You're just determined to make me swim aren't you?" laughed Rocky.

"Yeshe's become really good," said Zuma. "You are too if you try."

"You've gotten where you like baths at Katie's," said Rubble, "You can get rid of the wet dog smell quickly now."

"Ya, y'all are right," said Rocky, "it should be me teaching them. I'll take you up on supervising though, Zuma."

"I'll always be here for you," said Zuma.

"And so will we," said the other pups.

And thus ends the sequel to 'Somepup for Everypup.' I'll be watching for input of future stories involving this group. These are my OC's but if anyone wants to consider using them in a story just ask. Hope you all enjoyed reading it as much as I did writing the story. Until next time, and next story.
