Looking into his eyes Molly sighed overcome with mixed feelings. The last few months had been a living nightmare of feeling like her life was falling apart and the last week was a living hell as she had no idea where he was or even if he was still alive. To make matters worse she hated the fact the last time they had spoken was when she had called time on their relationship and then to ask if she could take the Wardrobe or chest of Draws or whatever piece of pointless furniture it was.
"You Stupid. Stupid. Stupid" she sobbed hitting him on the shoulder "why did you have to jump of that cliff" she said looking up at him
"We had no choice. We were cornered and those guys would have killed us" he said running his fingers through her hair
"There is always a way. You always find away" she said looking up at him her eyes glazed with fresh tears
"There was no time. We had to risk it. Jump and pray some god somewhere was looking out for us or stand on the edge and get blown to oblivion" he said sharply.
They sat in relative silence Charles room was on the far side of the hospital as compared to the main entrance, it looked over the helipad for the local air ambulance. Looking out the window she watched as the darkness grew.
"i best go. I still have to find somewhere to stay" she said
"okay" he said softy. "See you tomorrow?" he said as she stood and picked up her bag.
Heading down to the ground floor she went in to costa and ordered a hot chocolate and took a seat to use the Wi-Fi to hopefully find a hotel for the duration. She found one back in Longbridge where she had to change trains that had a Beefeater attached. It was the only Hotel locally that A had vacancies and B wasn't super expensive due to being in the city centre
She managed to get to the train station just as a train to Redditch was pulling in to the station. It was a 15-minuet train ride with this train stopping at all the stations. There was a chip shop she had to walk past to get to the hotel. Grabbing something from the chip shop she continued to walk down the road in to the 'town centre' which consisted of 2 pubs a supermarket, a Marks and Spencer, and a few other high street shops but there was quite a lot still being built around them.
Checking in to her room she had managed to book whilst still at the hospital she was on the 3rd floor looking over the small park and college that was also in the area. It was a smallish room but it would do. The bed was the typical king size bed the hotel offered. opening her bag, she routed through and managed to pull out a pair of leggings and a baggy top she had packed it was the closest thing she had to pjs she found, most of the stuff was pretty much unwearable. She did thankfully manage to pack clean underwear and her toothbrush so that was a bonus.
As soon as she had eaten and changed in to the leggings and top, she curled up and was asleep almost instantly, the events and emotions of the day catching up with her and she just wanted to sleep.
She awoke early the following morning. Sliding out of the bed she shivered slightly walking over to the window she yawned pulling open the curtain it was still really dark out apart from the lights of the street below. Shivering again she grabbed her jacket from the previous day and pulled it on before making use of the tea and coffee that was in the room.
Later that morning she headed down to the restaurant below the hotel for breakfast. There were multiple options but mostly full English options. She was pleased that there were Coco pops in the cereal choice. Helping herself to a bowl she ordered a pot of tea and sat down in the window seat. She chose one that was on the same side of the building as her room as it had a better view that wasn't a big blue cruise ship looking building.
Once she had finished her breakfast she decided to walk over to the huge marks and spencer as she wanted to get some warm pjs something she could put on first thing before she headed down for breakfast. she also went to the menswear section and picked up some pjs for Charles along with some boxers as she wasn't sure what he had with him.
She dumped her things back in the hotel before heading in to the supermarket opposite to get some bits she knew he would like. She picked up some squash as she knew he didn't like plain water. She also picked up his favourite bar of chocolate.
Catching the train back to the hospital she walked through the atrium stopping at the costa to get him a proper coffee as she knew he would hate the coffee on the ward. The lift seemed to be on a go slow, stopping on every floor before reaching the 7th floor.
Walking down the corridor she stopped outside Charles room to find the bed empty. Turning she walked over to the nurses station
"Excuse me. Umm where is Charles James? He is not in his room?" she asked
"he's with the Physio" the nurse on the desk smiled "he will be a couple of hours" she said turning back to her computer.
"Oh right. Thank you" Molly sighed wishing she had known this earlier.
Placing her shopping on the chair in his room she sighed. Not quite sure how she was going to spend the next 2 hours. Following the corridor round as the ward went in a half circle, she thought about going down to costa and getting a drink. As she walked round the ward, she smiled seeing a familiar face in one of the side rooms.
"aren't you a sight for sore eyes" she smiled poking her head around the door to Fingers who was sat in the chair next to his bed.
"Molly" he smiled "you here for the Boss?" he asked
"yeah" she forced a smile sitting on his bed.
There was an awkward pause between them. Molly was no longer in 2 section and somehow when she left the banter between them had somehow melted away. They were still friends but it was a different friendship than it had been when she was on tour.
"What happened Fingers?" she asked
"We were cornered, outnumbered..."
"Not with the Cliff jump" she said looking up "Charles has told me about that" she sighed. Taking a deep breath "what happened before all that, in Nepal, Nigeria, Belize"
"You should talk to the boss about that..."
"I tried he won't talk to me he just shut me down every time I asked"
"i warn you it isn't pretty molls" fingers said
"Tell me"
"When we were in Nepal, we received new orders for a deep cover mission in Afghan..."
"Wait you went to Afghan" Molly said
"Yeah, it was a deep cover op with the SAS. Anyway, we were working with Captain Azizi again but he betrayed us to the Taliban, we only just got out but well you know about Elvis"
"Yeah, I knew about Elvis but I had no idea you were there. And I never thought Azizi would have betrayed us like that. He seemed so genuine and like he cared about everything we were doing art the FOB" Molly sighed
"Then obviously we went almost straight in to Nigeria and the horrors there were brutal with the SF trying to infiltrate terror cells. It was one of the Bosses Sandhurst mates that we found in the mist and then training in Belize as you know went tango uniform"
"yeah" she said closing her eyes. The 6 months he had been off had been hell. He had hardly spoken to her the whole while and whenever she had tried to bring something up he had shut down which was worse than the alternative of him blowing his top off because at least then she would have known how he was feeling.
"And then Bones the guy we had to replace the boss was also red misted. Finally, you know all about Bangladesh" Fingers smiled
"So, one big steaming shit show then" Molly forced a smile wiping away the tears. She got it know how tortured he had been this past year. She only wished that he had spoken to her about it all himself and that she didn't have to hear it all second hand.
"Molls" Fingers paused "i think there is something else you should know"
"What is it?" she asked nervously wondering what else she could hear that could possibly be worse than this
"In Bangladesh the boss and Georgie umm" Fingers paused
"Go on" molly said
"They kind of had a thing. It was one night as far as I know but..."
Swallowing hard Molly tried to blink back the tears and take in what she was hearing.
"Molly?" Fingers said softly "I'm sorry"
"I..." she paused looking up she could see Charles hobbling along passed the window heading back down to his room. "I best go" she said "thanks for telling me everything"
"Molls" Fingers called "what you going to do?"
"i don't know" she half smiled turning to head out.
Walking back, she got to his room as he was getting back in to bed.
"Hey" she smiled Walking over to her bags "i brought you a few bits. I wasn't sure what you needed so I got pjs, underwear, soap, toothpaste, wash cloth" she said pulling things out of the bags. "I also got you some squash as I know you don't like plain water and I did get you a coffee but its gone cold so I'll go get you a fresh one..." she gabbled
"Molly" Charles said softly, taking her hand pulling her so she sat on the edge of the bed. "it's fine. Its not essential right now"
Looking in to his eyes she blinked back the tears that were forming. "I'm So sorry for what I said. Everything I don't think our marriage needs putting out of its misery. I love you. I should have never said what I did"
"it's okay Molls "Charles smiled "lets just draw a line and try and move past it all"
"yeah" Molly smiled swallowing hard forcing a smile. She wanted nothing more than to move on and go back to the way they were but she wasn't sure that they could especially now she knew what she did.
