09x01, 'White Harbor'

It's not often that Jorah feels irritation towards Daenerys. He's been wrong before when it comes to mistrusting her.

But her most recent plan? It's utter madness.

He'd said as much to her.

"Targaryen madness?"she'd spat, a true dragon.

He should have been more sensitive. He knows how those words cut her deep.

Stings him to see Jon supporting her dangerous idea.

He knows he shouldn't wrap her in furs. She is a queen, an extraordinary woman. He can't make decisions for her simply because he loves her. That has to be separated from their roles.

But if she's in the air, he can't protect her. And how can she defend herself there? She's only just learning to do so with both feet planted firmly on the earth.

She won't listen to him now. He could try to get Tyrion or Varys to speak to her instead, but both are on thin ground at the moment for things she won't discuss with him.

Missandei has unwavering belief that her queen knows what she's doing and will succeed. Grey Worm will not question her. Her remaining Dothraki respect such reckless displays.

It's Missandei who finds him later, not Daenerys. The queen is hiding in the bloated army that sprawls from White Harbor as far as the eye can see. Hiding with Jon, most likely.

"Ser Jorah, are you all right?" Missandei asks.

"I am," Jorah says. He will not burden anyone else with his agonising thoughts.

He doesn't need to. Missandei can read most people with no effort at all. "I know you worry for our queen. But try not to. She can do anything."

"I know," he acknowledges. "But she is our last hope. If anything happens to her…"

It is more than that. If anything happens to her and he cannot be there to save her, he will have failed his only purpose in life. He will have failed her as his queen and as the woman he loves.

He won't ever say the words aloud again, but Missandei understands.

Wordlessly, she reaches across to squeeze his hand.
