Chapter 34

The police took a report and let Kara and Nia leave the scene while the forensic techs and detectives started their investigation. Outside of William's building, the blonde hailed a cab. After a few minutes, one pulled up and they hopped in. The cabbie asked where to and Kara told him the address for J'onn's PI office.

"Have you got the system back up and running?" Kara asked their friends as they arrived in the Tower.

"We're almost there. J'onn is on his way back from the DEO. Says he might have something," Lena spoke up.

"Where is Mxy?" Nia wanted to know, noticing that the Imp didn't seem to be around.

"He's been trying his mystical ways to see if he can find our troublesome friend. Said he needed to be on the roof for that. I didn't ask a lot of questions," Kate explained.

"Mxyzptlk!" Kara called his name. He suddenly appeared in the middle if the room and practically gave Nia a heart attack as he was only a foot away from her.

"You summoned?" He asked.

"William is missing. Nia and I don't think it is because he wanted to disappear," Kara said.

"You think he's been kidnapp-ed?" Mxy wondered.

"That's my guess but he hasn't been really doing any reporting lately. He's been more of an editor, so I don't think it has to do with work," Kara made her point.

"No ransom note by now is not good," Kate heaved a sigh.

"Yeah, I figured," the blonde sighed.

"What good would it do to kidnap William anyway? It's not like he knows our secret identities or anything," Nia pointed out.

"The only thing I can think of would be to get to us and the only person who wants to do that right now is Nyxlygsptlnz," Kara shook her head. This time Mxy heaved a sigh.

"She's using some sort of spell to hide her location, but if she really did take your friend… I can't think of why she hasn't popped her head up yet," he admitted.

"That's the part that is making me even more nervous. No one has seen him since last night when he left the office," the blonde said. They were interrupted by the elevator and they all turned toward the lift, waiting for it to open.

"Hi," J'onn was a little taken aback by the multiple sets of eyes staring at him as he exited the elevator.

"What did you find?" Kara asked without so much as a 'hello'.

"The DEO was able to track William's cell phone. Now, normally a kidnapper wouldn't want that and the phone would have disappeared or been shut off by now," the Martian started.

"So, we're definitely dealing with someone who doesn't know much about cell phones or is trying to use it to lure us there," Kate spoke up.

"That's what Agent Smith figured as well. He and I both think that this is definitely the work of our Imp. William's phone pinged at Nia's place and then it pinged off a location, nowhere near his own apartment, just outside the industrial district. It hasn't moved in the last eight hours, so they're guessing that it's a stash house at best or that's where his phone was left behind," J'onn explained.

"So why aren't we already heading there?" Kara asked.

"We need to be careful. There aren't many reasons why Nyxlygsptlnz wouldn't have already tried something to get our attention. Kidnapping William has to have been done to get at us again. Since she was able to somehow control myself and Alura, we can't have that happening again," he told her.

"Can we recon the place? I mean stealth is kind of what I do," Kate pointed out.

"That I think is the best plan. You and M'gann go. Make sure you stay on comms. How much work is left on the computers?" J'onn asked. Kate ducked off with her duffel to get changed.

"I just need to get a few more pieces connected. Twenty minutes tops," Brainy spoke up from underneath the desk where the monitors were located.

"Excellent news. Kara and I will be ready to meet M'gann and Kate, if they find anything," the Martian then looked at the blonde and then looked at the elevator. Kara headed over to it and the two disappeared for a few moments alone.

"Ready to fly?" M'gann asked Kate.

"I'm never going to be used to this," the brunette said.

"I got used it," Nia chuckled. Kate gave her a wink and then she and the White Martian were gone. Nia turned to her friends and offered to make some fresh coffee which they all agreed they needed.

M'gann and Kate landed a few hundred feet away from the approximate target address that the DEO found. It appeared to be a large warehouse from the outside that backed up to a wooded area. Quietly, they split up and moved around the building. Kate figured it was odd for there to be a lack of activity. This was either abandoned or everyone had the day off, which would be weird.

"I don't see anything," Kate said over the comms. There weren't any broken windows or damaged doors that she could find on the left side of the building. She'd turned around the corner, closer to a large garage-style door, and found that it too did not appear to be damaged.

"No movement yet on my side either. What if we're looking in the wrong spot?" M'gann asked.

"Isn't this the address?" Kate figured they were in the right place given the information they had.

"Yes, but pinging a phone off a tower isn't one hundred percent, right?" Her friend figured.

"Point taken, but that just leaves the woods for cover. The other buildings are far enough away that a different address would have popped up," Kate told her.

"Meet me around the back of the building," M'gann instructed. Kate finished checking her side and then quickly went back the way she had come. There was M'gann waiting for her.

"This doesn't appear to be a very busy part of the industrial complex so why wouldn't she use the building for cover?" Kate asked.

"Maybe it's busier on other days of the week and she had to pick a different spot? Or maybe this wasn't her first choice. In order to stalk Nia, she would have needed an address in the city," M'gann said.

"Yes, and that location would be compromised if she took William there. Still, how would she have known about this place?" Kate wondered.

"Could be she has help," the White Martian frowned.

"There's an ugly thought but a valid point," Kate nodded. Carefully they moved into the woods. They heard a phone ringing and looked at one another before quickly looking about. There did not appear to be anyone there as the phone continued to ring. Finally, after it went to voicemail, they heard something else.

"So, she sends her friends to do her dirty work," Kate whirled around to find the Fifth Dimensional Imp in front of her. M'gann got the same view.

"What did you do to William?" The brunette asked.

"I'd be more worried about yourself than him," Nyxlygsptlnz smirked.
