The Silmarils. None in Doriath had ever seen them, nor could truly comprehend their beauty save Melian or my father, Thingol, as they had seen the two Trees. To us they were but three gems, and the (few) stories we heard about them did not even begin to cover what they truly were, and the deeds done in their name made no sense to us. We had heard, after a time, of the Doom of the Noldor along with the Oath sworn by the leaders of the Noldor, but did not truly grasp the impacts that they could have on Doriath.
Seeing them in Morgoth's crown, I began to understand better what my father had ensnared us in with his angry demand to Beren. Even in the heart of Morgoth's stronghold, their light remained uncorrupted and strong, feeding off of my song – and perhaps feeding back into it? I'm not sure.
We succeeded in our quest, but are now entwined in the fate of these gems, whatever that will be. I think that even the great wisdom of Melian cannot see what may come now and into the future.
