A Real Challenge
Inside the airplane hangar, bullets flew through the air with gunshots landing on objects and people. When Jack and Eve entered, they knew that all hell had broken loose. The two ducked near some crates until a voice yelled "Hey, you! Over here!"
Jack looked up and saw a large and imposing man covering behind a large stack of crates, along with some other mobsters. He then looked nearby and saw a canister of kerosene lying around. The large mobster, as well as a couple of others fired a few shots over the stack to throw off some of Fahook's thugs.
Eve looked around and saw corpses of Russian soldiers and Fahook's mercenaries laid out. She looked up and saw whoever was left of the Russians was outnumbered, as were herself and Jack.
"Shit, Jack," Eve said. "Fahook's still got guys coming out."
Eve still had her shotgun, but that weapon could only get her so far, especially against a large squad of mercenaries. She also looked at her Uzi. She wished she had her rifle with her.
"Fuck, I am low on ammo," Eve said.
"Don't worry, I have a plan," Jack said and showed her the canister he picked up.
Jack peered over the crates he and Eve hid behind. A couple of Fahook's thugs fired a couple of shots towards the crates where the remnants of the Russian soldiers were. Wood chips dropped from the gunfire, but none of the Russians were hit as they moved around a bit. The Russians looked at how much ammo they had left. They were low, and it wasn't enough to take down this cadre of assassins.
The squad of mercenaries stalked towards the line of crates where the Russians were.
Eve peered from behind her crate and whispered to Jack. "They're getting close."
Jack loosened the valve on the can. He peered over his crate and saw they were closing in. Some of them were ready to draw and open fire. The hissing sound from the canister indicated to Jack that now was the time to make his move.
Jack quickly popped up and yelled, "Hey, assholes!"
He tossed the canister into the air towards the team of assassins, all of whom quickly turned and saw Jack as if he was an open target. But Jack drew his MP5 and fired a few shots as the canister closed in on the squad.
BOOM!
The blast sent some flames flying towards the mercenaries. Some blew away from the impact. Others caught on fire and burned up. Eve popped up, as did the Russians to open fire on the mercenaries who weren't caught in the explosion. It didn't take long until they were all down.
Jack, Eve, and the Russians noticed that they were the only ones left alive in the hangar.
"Jack Slate?" a Russian accent caught Jack's attention. It came from the muscular Russian, who appeared to have led his fellow Russian mobsters.
"Yeah?" Jack said.
"Please to make your acquaintance. I am Mikhail Alekhin. I come here on behalf of Robert Blanjov."
Jack shook his hand. "Nice to meet you, too. This is Eve Adams."
Eve shook his hand as well.
"Thank you for saving us, Mr. Slate," Mikhail said. "You will always be in Mr. Blanjov's debt."
"Don't worry about it, I'm here for something else," Jack said. "But tell Blanjov that we're straight."
"Very well, comrade," Mikhail said and looked to his fellow soldiers.
["Come on, men, our work here is done,"] Mikhail said to his fellow soldiers in Russian.
After the Russians left, Eve looked at Jack with such surprise at the move he made. "How did you know what to do in that moment?"
"I didn't," Jack said. "I just saw the opportunity and took it."
"Good job, Jack," Eve said. "I wouldn't have thought of that."
"Let's go find Hildy," Jack said.
As the two walked towards the stairwell that leads up what appeared to be the office up above, gunshots went off. Jack and Eve quickly dove to the ground and then ran to a large stack of gold in the hangar. Jack peered behind and saw what appeared to be two women slowly walking down the stairs.
"Oh shit, it's them," Jack whispered.
"Who?" Eve whispered back.
"The twins."
Jack peeked and saw that both twins put down their weapons. Jack signaled to Eve to get out from their cover.
As a precaution, Jack and Eve had their weapons drawn as they faced Meeshaka and Shadraka coming towards them.
"Well, if it isn't Jack Slate." Meeshaka said.
"And Eve Adams," Shadraka said.
"Okay, ladies, that dunk tank shit was fun and all, but I don't have time for this," Jack said.
The twins laughed among themselves at that remark.
"Amazing how you two made it this far," Meeshaka said.
"I guess Fahook can't find some good help," Eve said.
"Where is he?" Jack said.
"Oh, he's here," Shadraka said. "He wants to see you."
A look of confusion rose on Jack's face in that moment. Why didn't Fahook try to join in on trying to eliminate him? Did he want to play some game or something?"
"Go," Eve said.
"Eve, but…," Jack said.
"I can handle these two," Eve said. "I'll meet with you in a bit."
Through the twins' veils, the eyes implied that they smiled. Jack walked up the stairs and then stopped to turn around as Eve stood before the twins. Although Eve was outnumbered, Jack saw what she was capable of in the time the two spent together. The two had developed a partnership, as well as a mutual attraction. They had common goals and also connected in different ways. But Jack's mind was on Hildy's safety. How would he know if Fahook didn't already kill her?
Jack proceeded to go up the stairs. Once he saw the door, he barged in, no questions asked. Inside, he saw the ornate nature of the décor in the office. But at the center, it was anything but what he expected.
"Ah, Jack Slate, you have arrived." The accented deep voice caught Jack's attention as he saw Hildy sitting in a chair frozen stiff, but then he saw the last person he expected to see.
"Ruby?" Jack said. "What are you...?"
"Silence, Jack Slate!" Fahook yelled. "How wonderful of you to join us."
Hildy knelt there and looked at the floor. Sweat ran down her face, as did tears. Ruby just stood there with a look of confusion mixed with slight concern.
"Can the bullshit, Fahook," Jack said.
"Oh, is that any way to greet the person who is treating you like a guest?" Fahook said as he grabbed a bottle of wine and poured it into a wine glass. "I must say, Jack Slate, I did not think you would make it this far, but after seeing what happened at the docks and over here, I'm glad you did. Because we need to talk."
"I don't have anything to say to you," Jack said.
"Oh, I hardly believe that," Fahook said and looked to both ladies in the room. "You see, Ruby thought she could steal from me and get away with it. But she also knew what would bring you to me." Fahook then looked to Hildy.
"What do you want from me?" Jack said.
"I'm not done talking, Jack Slate," Fahook said as he held the wine glass. "I know it was you who killed one of my associates and had all of my weapons seized by the Russians."
"That's it?" Jack said. "You're pissed about that?"
"Not precisely the case," Fahook said. "One thing you should know is that Grant City is mine and you found yourself in the middle of a big operation. In fact, you and your father stuck your nose where it didn't belong. I had helped Mayor Pinnacle with the funding for the gold operation, but you and your father got caught in the middle of it."
"Is that it?" Jack said. "So that was why you had the twins try to drown me that night?"
"That's not all, I had done my homework," Fahook said. "I knew about your relationship with that little whore over there." He said referring to Ruby, who glared at that remark. "And I was also told about your history with that lady over there." He referred to Hildy, who just looked away and breathed hard.
Fahook continued, "I heard about you trying to lure Ruby away from my operation, and then I had heard that she fed you a bunch of lies about some of my old associates, so that she could get away from me. But it was never going to work."
Jack had remembered that sometime before he went to jail that Ruby was allegedly being harassed by the Volkoff brothers at the strip club. However, over time he had figured out that she had been working as a prostitute and that she wasn't clear with him. But he also knew that Ruby wanted out. Something told him that Fahook was bluffing.
"So what do you want, Fahook?" Jack said.
Fahook held the wine glass and raised it up. "A toast." And then drank the wine and set the glass on his desk.
Fahook then picked up a pistol he had on his desk. "I'm going to play a little game with you."
With the pistol in Fahook's hand, Ruby looked on with worry. She wondered what he was about to do.
"Here's the big question, Jack Slate," Fahook said. "Out of these two ladies, which of them is more important to you?"
Fahook pointed the gun to Hildy and then pointed to Ruby. "Make up your mind."
Jack saw Fahook point the gun at both women. I don't know what Fahook is doing. If I picked one, would he kill the other? Or if I made my pick, would he shoot that one? Either way, I would lose this game.
Hildy looked directly in Jack's eyes with tears coming out of hers as her body trembled and her heart pounded at a fast rate.
"Please, Jack," Hildy said quietly as her voice cracked.
Jack turned to Ruby, who looked at him and shook her head. No one knew the rules of this "game" except for Fahook. Jack then turned towards Hildy, who looked down. No matter how scared she was, she looked up and mouthed the words "I love you" to Jack, whose heart started pounding at the idea of his first love dying before his very eyes.
Just then, an evil smile rose on Fahook's face.
"Looks like we have a winner," Fahook said.
He raised his weapon and pointed it to the back of Hildy's head. Hildy closed her eyes tight with a look of horror on her face.
Ruby looked on with sweat running down her face as well and then shook her head.
"No, stop!" Ruby yelled as quickly ran towards Fahook and tried to wrestle the gun from his hand, much to the shocks of Jack and Hildy.
Ruby tried to grab the gun from Fahook's hand, but his grip was that strong. He still had his finger on the trigger, but the muzzle kept moving until it got low.
BANG!
Jack and Hildy looked up the moment the gun went off.
"RUBY!" Jack yelled.
Fahook and Ruby's bodies were pressed against one another, but Ruby slowly started to slide downward and then dropped to her knees, much to the shock of everyone else in the room.
Ruby then dropped to the floor with an open wound on her stomach. The eyes on both Jack and Hildy widened and both of their mouths were open at the shock of what they had just witnessed.
Fahook held the gun and proceeded to point the gun at Jack, who then tackled him and grabbed the pistol from Fahook's hand. Jack pulled back the hammer as the magazine fell to the floor and unloaded the chamber. Jack then delivered a hard elbow to Fahook's gut.
Despite a bloody wound on her stomach, Ruby's body trembled and her head moved to face both Jack and Hildy.
"She's still breathing," Hildy said.
"Go check on her," Jack said.
"I will," Hildy said.
After that hard blow to his stomach, Fahook was barely getting up and then Jack rushed right towards Fahook. Both of them went towards the window to the outside. With their combined weight and muscular builds, the glass shattered on the impact of both men going through it into the outside near the helipad.
"You made a mistake, Fahook," Jack said.
Fahook then got to his feet and then took off his snake-skin coat, revealing his muscular and tattooed upper body. Fahook had a large tattoo that went from his pectorals down to his abdomen, as well as tattoos on his shoulders, and a large tattoo on his upper back.
"Please, Jack Slate," Fahook said. "I wish to be challenged!"
Jack took off his jacket, revealing the button-down shirt he wore. He then unloaded the guns he had by both removing the magazine and the bullets in the chambers, and then threw them to the floor.
"Bring it on," Jack said with a glare in his eyes and put up his fists.
MEANWHILE, BACK IN THE HANGAR…
Gunshots went off across the hangar. Eve ran for cover behind a forklift and checked how many bullets she had left in her pistol.
BANG! BANG! She fired a couple of shots.
Meeshaka picked up an assault rifle from one of the downed mercenaries and fired away towards her. Eve then fired how many shots she had left in her Uzi.
She then lied down and had her shotgun with her. She wrapped the strap through the trigger guard. Eve tossed up the shotgun as her hand gripped the strap.
Meeshaka looked around and saw a shotgun being tossed in the air and noticed how the strap was positioned. She quickly ducked right when the trigger was pulled by the strapped squeezing it with the buckshot grazing her a bit.
Shadraka drew her grenade launcher and fired towards the forklift. Eve quickly got to her feet and dove away.
BOOM!
The forklift was sent flying and fell right to its side. All three ladies were short on ammunition. But they didn't feel the fight was over.
Eve stood near the private jet in the hangar as she glared at the twins walking towards her.
"Your reputation precedes you, Ms. Adams," Meeshaka said.
"I have heard that you are quite the killer," Shadraka said. "We both have, actually."
"But how are you when it comes to fighting on your own?" Meeshaka said.
Both twins took of their leather jackets. Shadraka had a black bra-like top, while Meeshaka had more of a halter top that bared her midriff. Both women looked pale enough that they have not had any sun in a long time. Both women also took off their veils, revealing their full faces now. While both women were indeed head-turners, no one could guess why they wore veils to cover their faces. Whether it was a cultural thing, a means to conceal their identity, or a means to cover up any wounds, especially with how Eve suspected Fahook treated any women in his operation. Whatever the case was, no one knew, nor did it matter.
Eve glared but then smirked. She then took off her red jacket, revealing a small black shirt with sleeves that went up to her forearms. She then took off her shoulder holsters. All women dropped the weapons they had on them, be it guns and knives.
"Let's go," Eve said.
Both twins rushed towards Eve, who was prepared for each woman's attack. Meeshaka and Shadraka threw punches and kicks but Eve blocked each attempt and delivered a swift spinning kick towards Meeshaka, but Shadraka tackled Eve to the ground and then mounted her. Shadraka delivered a hard right hand to Eve's face, and then a left hand, leaving a bruise and a scratch on her face.
Shadraka glowered at Eve as she gripped her neck hard. All Eve could do was hold her breath and then put her right thumb to Shadraka's eye.
"Ahhhhh!" Shadraka yelled.
Eve delivered a hard palm strike to Shadraka's face, causing her to get off of Eve. Meeshaka then grabbed Eve from behind, wrapping her arms around Eve's neck, pressing her right arm against Eve's windpipe.
Eve gagged as Meeshaka tried to choke her as hard as she could. Eve's field of vision got blurry and then blurrier. However, despite how blurry her vision got, she saw a lead pipe on the floor and grabbed it. In spite of her vision, Eve whacked Meeshaka in the leg as hard as she could. Eve broke away and dropped to the floor and breathed hard and coughed a bit.
But it wasn't enough as Shadraka ran towards Eve while she lied face down on the pavement and kicked her right in the stomach.
Eve coughed some more and crawled as she gasped for air some more. She was close to being choked out. Meeshaka tried to kick her while she was down, but Eve rolled away as quickly she could, grabbed the pipe and then kipped up to her feet.
Eve swung the pipe towards Shadraka's bare abdomen. Shadraka dropped to a fetal position. Even then turned her attention towards Meeshaka and then swung but Meeshaka countered and grabbed the pipe as well.
Meeshaka swung the pipe multiple times but Eve dodged each attack and then delivered a hard kick to Meeshaka's left calf and then elbowed her to the face. When Meeshaka dropped to the ground, a bloody nose was visible, as well as blood around her jaw.
Shadraka had a chain in her and pulled it apart right after Eve knocked her sister to the ground. She hoisted the chain up, but Eve had sensed someone behind her and elbowed Shadraka to her stomach. Eve spun around and chopped her in the upper regions around her chest and neck, causing Shadraka to choke and cough a bit.
Knowing that in a quick moment a window would open for the other twin to make her move, Eve picked up Shadraka and then slammed her to the ground. Eve may not seem physically imposing, but she had enough strength to pick up that woman, who was around the same size as she was.
In Eve's case, she remembered that she had a contract, and these two were the targets. Eve's eyes were on Shadraka, who rolled on the ground a bit from the impact of the slam she took. In any other situation she would go pick up her pistol to put one in the two, but she dealt with two skilled women. Eve picked up a screwdriver that she saw lying around as well as the chain from before. She walked towards Shadraka, who slowly started to ascend to her feet.
But Eve heard some sounds behind her. Eve turned around and saw Meeshaka closing in on her with a knife in hand. In a quick second, Meeshaka felt something pierce her stomach, and then felt a pierce to her chest. Blood started to leak from her mouth. Eve stabbed Meeshaka with the screwdriver and then pulled it out from her chest and then shoved Meeshaka's body off of her.
One down, one to go.
BANG! BANG!
"Shit!" Eve yelled.
It was no longer a fair fight. Not that it was before, but Shadraka picked up a pistol. Eve raced out of the way. She was not armed with a firearm. Shadraka could just shoot her and Eve will be done. Eve jumped behind the crates from before. The shotgun was still there.
Good. Eve thought.
Shadraka stalked the path and looked down towards her sister's bloody corpse.
["She'll pay, sister,"] Shadraka said in Arabic.
Shadraka fired three shots towards the crates. There was no way that Eve could have survived.
She peered around the corner. Shadraka jumped at what was in front of her, or what wasn't. Eve wasn't there.
"Hey, you."
The voice caught Shadraka's attention and turned around and saw Eve standing right in front of her. Shadraka drew her pistol but Eve grabbed her by the wrist and punched her in the face. A dark bruise and bump rose on Shadraka's face. Eve had the chain wrapped around her knuckles and then twisted Shadraka's right arm and then delivered a hard chop upward towards her elbow.
"AAAAAHHHH!" Shadraka screamed and dropped the gun.
Eve quickly went behind her back, swung the chain downward, and wrapped it around Shadraka's neck. Eve tugged on it, but Shadraka tried to fight her way out of it. Eve pressed her knee against Shadraka's back and pulled the chain harder. Shadraka's face was already red and then started to get a bluish tint and then her eyes got bloodshot red. It wasn't long until her arms dropped and her body flopped a little more. Eve released the chain as what was left of Shadraka dropped to the ground.
Eve plopped against the wall nearby and took a deep breath.
I should go check on Jack. Eve thought.
After what she went through, she saw that the two women were skilled, but Eve proved that she outmatched them a bit. Eve wanted to rest after that battle, but she wanted to see if Jack was okay. She picked up her weapons, including her gun belt and put it on and then went upstairs.
Out on the balcony adjacent to the helipad, the rainfall dropped as Jack and Fahook circled, perfect concentration, never breaking their focus. If Fahook wanted to challenge Jack to a fight, then maybe he had something to prove. Fahook had told Jack that he was the subject of "many troubled discussions" as well as that "many great powers wished to see him silenced." Jack had nothing to lose, especially if Fahook wanted him dead.
The two weren't looking at each other's eyes at all. Rather, they were watching each other's hands, waiting for the other to strike.
"Come on, Jack Slate," Fahook said. "Don't lose your focus. Don't give in to your weakness."
Though Jack wanted to help Hildy with Ruby, this wasn't the time.
Jack shifted and blinked.
Big mistake.
Fahook sprang, foot coming out like a shot. Jack quickly jerk backward several inches and spun around to counter the move with an elbow. Fahook raised his elbow to block the attack and grabbed Jack by the side and turned leftward to throw Jack to the ground.
"Do not underestimate me," Fahook said. "You're not the only one who knows some stuff."
Jack rolled and quickly got to his feet. Jack threw a punch but Fahook elbowed him right in the gut and then kneed him in the face. Blood flew from Jack's jaw and Fahook quickly grabbed Jack by the legs and slammed him right on the ground and then proceeded to kick him in the gut.
Jack breathed and moaned in pain while holding his stomach and his eyes closed from the pain he suffered and slowly crawled on the tarmac of the balcony.
"For someone who can fight, you certainly hide yourself behind those twin babes," Jack said, trying to be snarky in this situation.
"I am not fond of getting my hands dirty, but for you, I'll make an exception," Fahook said.
Because Jack had only seen Fahook have his twin bodyguards do his dirty work, he did not think that Fahook knew how to fight. Then again, this man kept himself private to anyone in Grant City. Only so few likely knew what this guy was made of, and probably lucky to be alive to tell about it. Jack had to be worthy for his presence. Now Jack had to prove just how worthy he was.
Jack got to his feet and rushed to tackle Fahook with the same strength and power that managed to get both men through the glass window. Jack had Fahook in a mounted position and threw a right hand and a left hand and again and again. Fahook's face got bruised around his eyes and then blood came out of his nose and jaw.
But Jack was not done as he got to his feet and kicked him and then stomped on him until Fahook grabbed him by the foot and shoved Jack to drop to the floor.
THUD!
Fahook picked up Jack and hoisted him off his feet to carry him towards the safety zone of the helipad right next to the ramp with metal railings. Fahook slammed him against the railing.
"Aaaahhhh!" Jack yelled as he hit his collarbone against the railing.
Fahook slapped Jack in the face and then delivered a backhand slap. Jack moved his head back and quickly butted it against Fahook's face. Both men were bloodied and bruised. Jack threw a hard punch to Fahook's abdomen and a hard elbow to his chest.
But Fahook rushed and grabbed Jack by the neck and hoisted him up off his feet. With such incredible strength, he held Jack off his feet and choked him and looked up directly to Jack's face.
The grip around Jack's neck was hard that he held his breath as hard as he could. Then Jack saw that his feet were adjacent to Fahook's head. He moved his right foot back and swiftly kicked Fahook in the face. Fahook was knocked a bit. But Fahook had other plans.
The grip released. Jack dropped to the floor, landed in a fetal position. He coughed and tried to breathe after being choked. Despite that, he slowly ascended, struggled to get to his feet. He was bent over, breathed hard, and noticed that Fahook had a knife in his hand. He probably had it sheathed near his pants and held it in a stabbing position.
Jack delivered a roundhouse kick to Fahook's hand, causing the knife to fall from his hand. But Jack spun around and delivered a crescent kick to Fahook's face. Right after Fahook turned around, Jack grabbed Fahook from behind and wrapped his left arm around his neck. Jack held Fahook in a headlock and punched him in the face three times. Jack then positioned himself behind Fahook to put him in a stranglehold and put his right arm at the back of Fahook's neck.
"Go to sleep, fucker!" Jack said.
Fahook was slowly falling asleep from Jack's sleeper hold. Jack debated whether he just knock him out or finish him off. Jack always knew better when he was a cop. He only killed if he had to. This wasn't one of those moments.
Jack released Fahook and threw him to the floor.
"I'm not done with you yet," Jack said as he looked at the unconscious Fahook.
Jack slowly walked back into the inside of Fahook's office, aching in pain from the fight he endured. Hildy was still tending to Ruby's wounds, but from the looks of things, Ruby had lost a good amount of blood.
"How does she look?" Jack said.
"Not good," Hildy said. "She's lost a lot of blood. I tried to patch her up, but she can't stop bleeding."
Ruby breathed hard and looked up.
"Jack…," Ruby said, weakly.
"Ruby?" Jack said and knelt right next to her and then held her. "We have to get you to a hospital."
"I don't think…it will do me…any good." The way Ruby said that, it sounded like she knew she was going to die.
Hildy looked at her. Fahook shot Ruby in the upper part of her stomach, close to her chest. After studying to be a nurse and an EMT, Hildy figured that this shot would be fatal. She was also close to being killed. Why did Ruby save her?
"Jack," Ruby said and then took a deep breath. "You knew…it was too good to last, right? I'm so…sorry…for everything. I really am. Don't let me go."
"Don't worry about it, we can still get you to a hospital," Jack said.
"I don't think it matters now," Ruby said. "I still love you, and I really mean that I'm sorry." She looked to Hildy. "Please forgive me…Hildy. I'm fucking weak."
Hildy looked at her while Jack held her. After what she was told, she knew that Ruby wasn't really evil. Just someone who got caught up in a bad situation.
"Jack, promise me one thing," Ruby said in a weak tone and as her voice cracked.
Ruby slowly reached for her pocket and pulled out a photo. It was a photo of a little blonde girl who looked to be roughly 4 or 5 years old and a young woman who looked to be in her early-20s. The little girl and the mother had a resemblance to one another, and it appeared that the mother had the little girl when she was still a teen.
"If you ever find my mom, give this to her and tell her…," Ruby paused for a few seconds. "I'm sorry…for leaving her." Her voice cracked and tears ran down her face.
"I will," Jack said.
Right then, Ruby's head turned towards her left and her body started to hang more.
"She's gone, Jack," Hildy said.
Jack couldn't say a word. He looked at Ruby's body and couldn't believe that she died in his arms. This made him remember that his father died right in front of him as well. Jack had to fight the tears. Despite what she put him through, deep down he still cared about her, and she told him she loved him in her dying breath.
"I can't believe it," Jack said and took a deep breath. "I can't believe she's gone. I know what she did, but at the same time, I know why she did it."
Both Jack and Hildy were at a loss for words. There was no question that Ruby did some things recently to save her own skin, but there was a feeling that the two had that she did them to survive. However, both felt that there could have been another way.
Outside, Fahook regained consciousness and limped to get back to the office. He saw that Jack and Hildy looked down at Ruby's lifeless body. The two seemingly didn't pay attention to what was going on outside. Fahook went in through the broken window and slowly went towards a cabinet. He opened it and pulled out an MP5 and loaded it with a magazine.
"Hey, Jack Slate!" Fahook yelled.
Jack and Hildy jumped and turned around and there stood Fahook with a sub-machine gun in hand ready to open fire.
"See you in Hell, Jack Slate," Fahook said as he pointed the gun at both of them.
A gunshot went off.
"AAAHH!" Fahook yelled as he felt gunshot to his forearm.
Fahook looked at his forearm as the bullet grazed it, not shot through it. The same bullet barely grazed the rest of his arm. He looked up and saw an Asian woman with a silenced pistol standing right near the door.
"Eve Adams?" Fahook said.
"In the flesh," Eve said.
"You missed me," Fahook said.
"I never miss," Eve said. "That was just a warning."
Jack and Hildy looked on with confusion. In any given moment, they would get out, but because Fahook was close to killing them, they stood there frozen stiff.
"Please, Ms. Adams, we can negotiate a deal," Fahook said and wiggled his right arm a bit from the pain. "I have heard my share of stories about you."
"Have you?" Eve said.
Jack leaned towards Hildy and whispered in her ear. "Get out. Go find Chris and get some help."
Hildy nodded her head and ran out of the office. Jack looked down and saw that the pistol from before was lying there, as well as had the magazine lying near it.
"Yes, I know your reputation," Fahook said. "Amazing how you made it this far."
"Yeah, well your twin bodyguards were no match for me," Eve said.
Fahook smirked at that remark. "You took them out? Impressive. Listen, I have a simple proposition for you. I will pay you to kill that man right there." Fahook said and pointed to Jack.
Eve shot him a look of confusion. "How much are we talking?"
"Anything you want, I can pay you," Fahook said.
"Hmmmm." Eve seemed to be at a loss and shot a look at Jack, who was confused at what was happening. However, her eyes and facial expressions seemed to have pointed towards the gun on the floor.
"What do you have in mind?" Eve said.
"How does $300,000 sound to you?" Fahook said.
In that moment, Jack ducked onto the floor and Eve pointed the gun at Jack. But in reality, Jack grabbed the pistol and put the magazine through the base.
"Hmmmm, let me think about it," Eve said.
"Not good enough?" Fahook said. "$400,000."
Jack cocked the hammer while he still pretended to cower on the floor.
"I don't know," Eve said.
"Okay, $500,000, and that's my final offer," Fahook said.
"Hmmmm, sounds intriguing," Eve said but then she fired a shot towards Fahook's left shoulder.
Blood squirted out of Fahook's shoulder. It was close to his collarbone. Fahook dropped to his knees in pain.
"Sorry, buying your way out of this won't do shit," Eve said.
Despite being in pain, Fahook glared at Eve and reached for his MP5.
"You leave me no choice," Fahook said.
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
Five shots right to Fahook's bare chest. Eve looked to her left and Jack fired more until the gun clicked. Fahook's body dropped backwards with his knees bent and blood dripped out from his chest and his back.
"Jack?" Eve said.
Jack got back to his feet and threw the gun away. "He was ready to shoot you."
"I could have taken him out, you know?" Eve said.
"I know, but I didn't want to see you die in front of me," Jack said. "After all, I still owed you for those times you saved me."
"Well, consider us even," Eve said with a smile.
"Not until after I buy you a drink," Jack said as he got closer to her.
"You know, you don't have to do that," Eve said as she got closer to him.
"Maybe I still want to."
"Well, not sure how your doctor will feel about that."
Jack looked away and remembered that Hildy was outside.
"You're right," Jack said.
"But just as a little bonus," Eve said and got closer to his face. The two then kissed each other.
Eve then got out her cellphone and called a number. After the two were done kissing, she put the phone to her ear and the call went through.
"Yes, Mr. Copeland, it's done," Eve said. "Yes, Ubduhl is dead."
Jack looked at her in a confused fashion again.
"It's all done, yes, I will collect the payment," Eve said. "Thanks."
Eve then hung up.
"So you were hired to kill Fahook and his bodyguards?" Jack said.
"Yes, but helping you wasn't part of the job," Eve said. "Besides, as an extra token of my appreciation, I'll give you and Hildy some of my payment. I don't need all of it."
"Are you serious?" Jack said.
Eve nodded her head. "I like you, Jack. In fact, through the time we have worked and spent together, I started to feel something for you. I never thought I would feel this way again. But I am serious about giving you part of my payment."
Jack was speechless in that moment. In that same time, a siren was heard from a distance.
"I have to go," Eve said. "I promise I will give you some of the money."
The two hugged and kissed one more time.
"Until we meet again, it was great working with you, Jack Slate," Eve said.
Eve ran out through the door to the outside. In the time he had worked with Eve, Jack saw that she had her ways with getting around and out of a jam.
And once again, she was gone. After all this time, Eve and I had connected. But she had to go. I hope one day I see her again.
Right now, I have to meet with Hildy.
Jack walked towards the door to the hangar. Hildy was out there. Jack didn't want her to get caught up in the crossfire. With Ruby dead, Jack was not about to let Hildy suffer the same fate.
The door opened.
Jack walked out onto the platform where the stairwell was and before his very eyes, he saw Hildy on her knees with her hands behind her head. There were several GAC members holding guns pointed upward towards Jack. One member held Hildy at gunpoint as well.
What the fuck? Jack thought.
"Hello, Slate." A deep voice grabbed his attention. There walked Hennessey, in his GAC uniform and carried a riot shield that had the letters GAC inscribed on it, as well as a pistol in his other hand.
Jack looked down as a fiery glare rose on his face.
"We need to have a little talk," Hennessey said.
Author's note: Wow, that was rather lengthy, but it's not over yet.
I had it planned that Eve would be the one to fight the twins, as well as Jack fighting Fahook. However, I had different outcomes on how I wanted to the fight and how Fahook would die. I also must say that some of the fight was inspired by the boss fight with Pinnacle in the original game.
Also, like in Dead to Rights II, Ruby died, but like I had said before, I gave her a backstory and tried to do more with her character. In Dead to Rights II, it felt like she was just there just because maybe the game needed a female character and love interest. Some of the dialogue she had in her death scene was from the game, as well.
Speaking of Dead to Rights II, the leader of the team of Russian mobsters, he is supposed to be Blanjov's bodyguard from that game.
I also wanted to put one bit involving the gameplay mechanic of throwing a canister and shooting it, but I had to find the right scenario to it.
Also, regarding the fight scenes, I had them take place at the same time.
I am almost done with this story. I can't believe it either. Stay tuned.
