A/N: Quick note, this chapter is super short, which I will entirely blame my former struggle with writing active battlefields for. I do improve with this, when the sequel comes about, so yeah. This is something I definitely should get around to rewriting, eventually.

Chapter 31 - The Beginning of an End.

"What the fuck? You're kidding me, right?" I asked. "I'm not joking, Cyrus. They plan on luring you into a room lined with material that blocks your powers, and finding a way to get you into a portal generated from it. I don't have any information any further than that. I just figured I should warn you." He said, before blipping out of existence again, like he did after our first meeting.

"Revan, wait! What do you mean!" I shouted. The door burst open as Kara charged in, Mana behind her. "What the hell happened?" Kara asked. At the same time, Mana asked, "Was Revan just here?" She demanded.

I sighed, pain in my eyes as I looked at them. I think I understood why he was warning me of that. If I didn't act quickly in that room, I'd be taking a very long trip, if the machine even worked. But one thing was for certain. I couldn't tell them, or they wouldn't let me go.

"I don't think I can say what happened, but yes, Revan was here." I told them both. There was ten minutes of Kara bugging me about it, which I felt incredibly guilty about. I hated hiding stuff from the group, especially her. I knew how it felt to be hungry for knowledge.

I managed to convince her to just go to bed, as it was rapidly approaching midnight, and we all needed a good rest. When I fell asleep, it was blissfully dreamless, for once, which I was very happy about.

I woke up to Mana shaking me. "We have thirty minutes before we need to go. Come on." She told me. I stretched, and got up. "No nightmares?" She asked. "Just as promised." I told her. "Good." She smiled, heading to the kitchen as I equipped my Force User set, which was my name for my set of gear that enhanced the more mental side of my stats.

There were pancakes on a large pile on the table. "Take as many as you want, just save some for everyone else." Hazel waved, digging into her own pancakes. Kara slid out of her room with her gear equipped, and quickly dug into a stack of four pancakes. "Someone's hungry." I commented, taking a bite out of my stack of two.

"Facing imminent death seriously makes someone starving." She commented, her face stuffed with pancakes. I smiled at her. It wasn't long before a fucking semitruck pulled up in front of our house. "Apparently they were ready to bring an army before the idea got shot down." I commented, peering out as Phoebus waved at us.

If any of our neighbors were awake, they certainly didn't seem to question the very loud semi outside. We quickly made our way outside, and we were put in the trailer on the back of the truck with Azalea, Alec, and Revan. I noted Revan was in strange robes, a faded emblem on it. "When did Phoebus learn how to drive a semi?" I asked them.

"He learned how as of today." Revan commented. "Ah. That inspires so much confidence in me that we'll live the drive." I joked. Azalea smiled. "How come everyone's here?" I asked. I could swear they didn't want to leave the base unguarded just a few days ago.

"We're all going to guard outside the building, and Phoebus is going to be ready in case we need an escape." Alec said seriously. I nodded, and remembered something. As a reward for getting Kara's influence maxed out a second time, I'd been told I could Observe most of everyone, presumably including Empowered people.

I cast an Observe at Revan, and it still came up blank. No screen, no question marks, just the same lack of a response. I frowned, but started to meditate, subconsciously planning for any rooms blocking my powers. I couldn't use thermal detonators in close quarters, the same goes for the permacrete bombs I had used before at Aztecoro.

So I bought a slew of Concussion, Adhesive, and Plasma grenades to stun, lock in place, or damage opponents, storing them in my inventory. An hour later, we arrived outside our destination. We all got out, aside from Phoebus. Everyone except for my team, consisting of Kara, Mana, Hazel, Revan, and myself, positioned in various hiding places, handguns in holsters I didn't actually notice previously.

I glanced around. It was strangely quiet for DC, especially at this time of day. It was Kara, Mana, Hazel, Revan, myself, and a singular crow, a beady eye peering down at us, before it cawed, and flew away.

We all stealthed, to include Revan's peculiar thing where he just vanishes. He apparently can still be seen with Force Sight, which was good. I took a second to crack the lock on the gate, and we snuck in. I fried the cameras as we went, and the entrance to the building itself was unlocked. They knew we were here, I think.

"Everyone, stay stealthed. They're only expecting me, I think." I thought to them. Kara grabbed Revan's wrist, and whispered the message to him. I unstealthed, and walked in, ducking immediately under a bullet, throwing a massive Force Storm through the room, frying technology and people alike. "Wow. You guys really thought a bullet was enough." I commented, crouching as a person came through another door, alerted by the noise.

I used Force Crush on them, and I went to another room. Revan disappeared from our group, but Mana assured me that he could handle himself. It wasn't long before my minimap showed only one room left, meaning this central room had the material that disabled my powers, and that machine. I could only assume the President, Secret Service, and a legion of highly trained people were beyond this door.

"I think we can unstealth. There shouldn't be anyone left outside of this room." I told them. "This is the last room. Powers are going to be disabled in there. Prepare to dodge bullets and go absolutely insane in there, alright?" I told them as they unstealthed. I equipped my Melee set, as I called it, and they nodded. I cracked the door, tossing one of each of the three grenades I bought in there.

There were screams and groans, and I burst down the door, as I felt FP drain from me. I ignited my lightsaber, and charged in.
