PREVIOUSLY ON CHAPTER 3

Deciding my search was over I went in the bedroom and began researching on my laptop again. When looking for any answers it seems like asking direct questions never seem to give any answers. So, I decided to askes Google indirect questions if that made any sense at all. Starting with Quil's amazing ability to come completely unfazed and unscathed for the fall was a good start. Which the search led me to superhuman people. Most look like a bunch of CGI mess and Marvel characters, but some do look legit like Terry Hollands as England's Strongest Man or Albert Einstein as one of the World's Smartest people and pretty much nothing on, what I believe to be, superhuman healing.

Typing in just that again didn't give me much but TV shows, book and fanfictions. I sighed as I leaned back and rubbed my eyes. I looked at my phone to see the time. 11:30. I should go to bed, but I do want to look some more. Feeling like I was about to get a breakthrough I decided to research some more and that's when I heard it. I looked out the window as the sound echoed again in the dark room.

Howling.

Jumping from my seat. I stared at the window for a second before becoming entirely stiff as I wanted to hear it again. A minute passed by and nothing. Ten minutes passed and still nothing. Fifteen minutes passed and I was about to give up. I might have been hallucinating from not enough sleep or maybe because my emotions were running on high today. I closed my laptop and there it was again. The howling sounded louder than before. Closer. I smiled brightly as I geared myself into action.

Putting on my sweats, shoes, an undershirt, and a thin jacket. I decided then and there that I was going to see the wolves. I haven't heard their howl since I first got here and ever since then I've wanted to go see them. I've never had this strange fascination with them before, sure dogs are cute and everything, but I was never in love with them. No, this was different, and I doubt it had anything to do with just liking them or thinking they're cool. Ever since I heard them something inside of me opened up and howled with them.

Finally zipping up my jacket I grabbed my phone and slowly opened my door praying it didn't creak and peeked my head out the door. The hallway was dark so there wasn't much to see until I let my eyes adjust. The only place I looked towards was my grandma's room. To make sure she wasn't up and out. Her door was still closed, and the light wasn't in the bedroom or bathroom, so my only explanation was she still was asleep. Hopefully. I opened the door wider and crept out of the room, but not before closing the door after me. I can't have grandma seeing my door opened and not seeing any sight of me in the bedroom or in the house. She would most definitely freak and never let me leave the house again.

As I tiptoed through the house, I swerved my head to the kitchen just to make sure grandma wasn't there for any reason. When I didn't, I continued my creeping until I got to the door and paused. I don't have a key to the door so If I leave, I could potentially be locked out.

"Should I take the keys?" I thought.

Grandma always leave them by the door on a hook for easy access and so she never forgets so they're always there. Taking them and grandma, for some reason, waking up could set her on high alert, but I don't want to be locked out and indisputably making a bunch of noise coming in. Taking the keys are the best option. Turning to the hook the keys was on I saw... a blank space. I blinked and tried grabbing the keys thinking they're just blended into the darkness but no they weren't there.

"Maybe she forgot to put it back." I sighed.

The only option I had now was to leave the door cracked hoping the moonlight wouldn't spill into the living room. I escaped into the outside world. It looked different in the nighttime. Less lively of course. Almost like a ghost town from the 1800's during the Gold Rush when everybody left when the gold ran out. Shivering in my jacket I jogged off into the night. East. Towards the forest. Once I was a few feet from my home I fished out my phone to flash the light. I don't have time to get a sprained ankle.

Looking around the reservation made me realize how happy this place is during the day. Even though the houses look old and rundown the Quileute people are always cheerful with a smile on their face. A community of people that brings sunshine wherever they go with cakes and muffins and hugs and laughter.

Once I made it to the edge of the forest, I stared at the dark yet inviting stretch of trees. I haven't heard the howling again, but I can feel that the wolf is here. I took a deep breath and walked into the forest and smelled the damp tree air mixed with the salty sea. I jumped as I heard twigs snap. I swerved my flashlight to the sound and saw a squirrel scurrying up the bark. I chuckled and kept walking not really sure where I was going. It did feel good almost therapeutic to be walking in the forest. Touching rough tree bark under my fingertips I raised my head to the moonlight letting the light bath me. I smiled as I felt the warm glow caress my body. It seemed like the forest smiled back at me. The heartbeat of the forest and its animals matching my own. The fingers of the wind reached out to stroke my cheek.

The forest welcomed me as it's child.

The feeling of the forest and the earth around me almost made me forget why I was there. I paused awaking from my stupor, and I looked down at my phone. It's 12:15. I've been out here for almost an hour walking around and no sign of a wolf. I groaned and sat down on the moss-covered ground. This has to be my stupidest decision yet and I got to go back to school tomorrow. I shouldn't even be out here. Deciding to walk back I got up and turned around trying to retrace my steps looking down at the ground making sure I don't trip over roots, stumps, and branches.

To preoccupied with her steps, she didn't hear the soft pats of paws behind her or the low growling until it was right behind her.

Walking through the forest was bit difficult. Some parts were smooth terrain while others were bumpy and upraised and I doubt I was even going the right way. I paused trying to decide which way to go when I heard it. A low rumble. Almost sounding like an earthquake but without the shaking. I gasped slightly scared to turn around and face what's behind me, but at the same time knowing my curiosity will kill the cat I couldn't help but look behind me.

Like ripping a band aid off I whirled around, my flashlights bouncing off of trees and leaves to settle on a wolf. A large wolf. With me being 5'3 this wolf towers over me. I've seen pictures of wolves before, but I never thought they'd be this big. A russet brown stands before me. Looking down at me with very intelligent eyes as he leaned down to sniff my hair and my clothes. Whatever he smelt or saw on me he didn't like as he leaned back and started to do a slight whimper.

"What's the matter?" I questioned as I slowly walked up to him and lifted my hands to touch his fur.

His brown eyes looked at me in confusion as my hand touched his head. His body radiated warmth and his body seems like mostly fur as my hand sinks into it. The wolf made a sighing sound as he leaned into my touch.

"You're a beautiful wolf, I bet you'd look more beautiful in the sunlight." I said in awe.

He licked my hand. His tongue was huge about 2 sizes than my own tongue as its warm saliva coated my hand.

"EWWW!" I squealed and wiped my hands on some fallen leaves. I looked up just in time to see him rolling his eyes.

"Did you roll your eyes?" I laughed, " I didn't know wolves can do that, but you seem to be really smart though."

He just stared at me as I sat down on the earth's floor. I saw him looking behind me, internally debating something before deciding to sit down with me.

"You know, I just moved here. I been here a few times before, even so it's not how I remember it."

His ears perked up to listen to my story.

"Ever since I came back, I felt different. I am different I guess; I mean I am older. I also met this guy I was friends with when we were younger. His name is Jacob."

I saw his eyes widen and he moved closer to me.

"He's really nice, cute even, but I feel like there's a part of him that he's hiding from me." I frowned.

He made a louder whining sound as he nuzzled my neck.

His fur tickled my neck and face, "He said to give it time, but I don't know how much time he needs. Grandma says that him taking care of Billy takes a toll on him and I completely understand that, but the things that are happening to me are scaring me and I just don't know who to turn to or ask."

He sat on my knees and nuzzled me again.

"Like the Quileute language. I never knew it nor learned. Then one day the first day I got here I heard some girls talking about me I understood them, but they were speaking Quileute."

He sprang up snorts and shook his head.

"Are you okay." I got up cautiously.

Howling danced across the air as I looked around the darken place. The wolf looked and sprang into action. He barked and started forcibly nudging me into a random direction.

"What's wrong? Is that your pack? Where are you pushing me?"

Wolves can't talk so I don't know why I asked. He just kept nudging me.

"Okay okay, I'm going."

He growled and walked in front of me. I guess I have to follow him Walking behind his swishing tail for 15 minutes lead me outside of the forest. Exactly where I came in.

"Ohh you were leading me out, thank you."

The wolf nodded and ran back into the wolves. His legs springing under him as a howl echoed around me alerting his pack.

The wolf made a dash through the trees, branches and leaves wiping around his face and fur, but the wolf paid it no mind. He only had eyes for his destination, and he had to get there before the other wolves did. He needed to talk to someone.

The wind made a whistling noise as it wiped passed the wolf. He only saw flashes of the forest around him as he picked up speed. His thick paws slamming into the ground leaving print marks in its wake.

The wolf found her quicker than expected. The clearing was brightened by a rim of fire with The Shaman in the middle. The Shaman was wearing a ritualist regalia imitating a bird with black and white feathers cascading down the body and black marking on its face, The Shaman donned a black and white feathers headdress that extended a few inches into the air. The Shaman raised its hand in the air speaking an incantation as the forest breathed and exhaled. Speaking and responding to the Shaman's spell. The heartbeat of the forest sounded like a drum in the wolf ears.

The wolf shook its ears as the forest quieted and the circle of fire dispatched leaving The Shaman and the Wolf. The Shaman took of the headdress leaving hair cascading in its place. The wolf phased out becoming human again.

"You are back earlier than expected Protector." The Shaman said.

"I would like to talk to you for a minute. I think we should tell her." I pressed.

The Shaman sighed, "I know you wish to tell her, but plans have changed. You know that."

"I know that but..."

"But nothing, Protector, these monsters have tried to get past my wall more often than not these past few weeks. They know something. I'm praying they don't know about her."

"But wouldn't it be better if she has some training if they do come?" The once wolf felt The Shaman paused contemplating.

"Yes, yes it would but I don't want to take chances with her. Even though she hasn't started training I could feel the power coming off of her in waves. She's going to be very powerful, but I can't bear to live with myself if something happens to her."

The Shaman's eyes filled with tears, but they were quickly blinked away, "If those monsters weren't trying to break the barrier, she would have already known about this, but her power is so potent they could find out the minute she casts a spell. Even your wolf smell won't work. I just need more time to make a potion or something to hide her scent better."

The wolf boy tilted his head down, " I just don't know how long I can keep lying to her."

The shaman walked over to him and touched his shoulder. looking at him earnestly, " It's doesn't feel good lying to someone you care about, but it's a must that we perform this. Give me another week. Week and a half at most. If I don't pull through than you have my permission to tell her."

He nodded. I can deal with that. The look in her eyes when she talked and me and the lies, I've told her will haunt me in my dreams. I don't want her to look at me like that ever again. This is to protect her. To keep her safe. Hopefully when we tell her she will see it that way.

The Shaman nodded, "Back to you post, Protector."

He shifted back to wolf form and tore through the trees again. Still thinking about the girl and the secret she told me.

The alarm rang throughout my room, but I was already up and out of bed. Only getting 3 hours of sleep last night; feeling energized and excited at what transpired last night. As the howls traveled over the sky I had ran back home and inching my way back into the house and into my back. All without my grandma knowing anything. Quickly showering, styling my hair in a wash n go and getting dress for school. I was ready quicker than usual and feeling more like myself in days. I decided to dress cute today. Wearing a forest green pleated skirt, white platform boots, and a simple white shirt tucked into the skirt. Even the cut on my face healed perfectly not even leaving a scar in its presence.

I walked out with my backpack to the kitchen and finding my grandma making eggs and bacon. She looks like she's in a good mood as well. Her black hair was brushed till it was glossy down her back. She was wearing a pale pink dress that stopped to her knees. When she turned around the bags around her eyes have gone away. Leaving plump and smooth skin.

"Good morning, Miracle. You're looking pretty today." She sat down and handed me a plate.

"So do you. Are you going anywhere today?" I asked.

"Ohh Billy and I are going to the gardening store today. I was thinking of planting some chamomile. So, I can make my own chamomile tea and maybe some other plants if I find any I like."

I laughed as I started eating the eggs and bacon. Going into the forest and feeling the heartbeat of the forest made me feel good. Almost as if I slept for a month. And meeting the wolf I've been wanting to meet since I got here and talking to him about some of my problems. It felt good to air out what's been inside for so long.

"Are you excited to go back to school." She sipped on her tea.

"I guess. I'm not excited about the stares I'll be getting." That's the one thing about today I wish I would forget.

"Ohh don't mind them. They're just bored with their own lives so much they need to talk about other people's lives."

Damn.

After that we talked a little more about her gardening and random subjects like the weather which was unseasonably hot for mid-September. Until a there was a knock on the door.

"I'll get it." I walked to the door. Not before noticing the keys on the hook were back and opened the door to find Jake and his gang there. I saw Jake's eyes widen slightly as he saw me.

"Hey guys." I said suddenly nervous of my outfit.

Jake opened his mouth, but Leah beat him to it, "Mmm Someone's looking extra hot today." She laughed as she entered the house.

"I second that opinion." Seth entered behind her.

"I third that opinion." Quil said.

"I fourth that opinion." Embry laughed.

Jake was left standing in the doorway. Looking quite shy in his cream-colored shirt the stretched across his chest with dark blue jeans. His hair tied back in a loose ponytail accentuating his cheekbones.

"Hi" He said.

"Hey Jake."

He seems to be contemplating something in his head before resolving it. He walked forward put his hands around my waist and hugs me tightly. I gasped but quickly melted into the hug. I wrapped my arms around his neck and held him tightly breathing in his woodsy smell. We held that hug for a few minutes before he slowly moved away.

Feeling flushed from the hug I said, "What was that for?"

"I just felt like you needed one. You look beautiful by the way."

"Thanks. You want to come in?"

Jake closed the door behind him as we entered the kitchen where everyone else was. They were standing up against the wall and grandma was in front of the sink cleaning her plate. I sat down and tried to quickly finish eating my forgotten breakfast.

"Jake is Billy ready to go. I'm telling you he takes more time on his hair than I do." She had a hand on her hip while everyone laughed.

"I had already helped him into the truck so he should be here any minute."

She tsked, "Fine, I'll give him 10 more minutes. Miracle, I'll be in the garden to see if I need anything else. Call me when you leave, okay." She kissed my forehead and walked away.

"So, how did you sleep?" Jake took the abandoned seat and sat next to me staring intently.

Should I tell them I saw a wolf last night? Of course, I don't have a valid reason why I shouldn't, but something is holding me back. The only reason I could think of is that they could tell grandma about it, and I'll never see the light of day again. I'll be stuck in here like Rapunzel. Remembering the first day I went to school here Leah had warned me about them. What did she say again?

For your sake I hope you're careful. They're ferocious. That's what she said, but I thought she was joking honestly.

"I slept great...I heard the wolves were out last night." I pressed.

I watched them to see their reaction. Leah and Seth looked composed. Quil and Embry were the more animated duo. They're eyes looking back and forth between Jake and each other. Jake expression was guarded.

"Really? Did you satisfy your lifelong dream of looking at one." Leah joked.

I chewed on my lip internally debating whether I should tell them or not.

I looked at my phone and realized, " Ohh we got to go to school. We have like 10 minutes left before school starts. Grandma I'm leaving!"

I put my plate in the sink and grabbed my backpack. Jake and the gang started filing out of the kitchen. I sighed softly not exactly sure what I can tell them.

Going into school wasn't as bad as I thought. Some people stared but not millions of eyes I'd expected. Apparently as Seth said one of the cheerleaders, Natasha Tall got pregnant by a Jeffery Myles and she had to quit the cheerleading squad, so that's what everyone been talking about for the past few days. Leaving my incident in the dust.

I must say I am grateful for the change in topic for sure. It'll give me a chance to make more friends by myself and not the ones my grandma gave me.

"I'll take Miracle to class. I'll see y'all later." Jake said already ushering me across the hall.

"What are you doing?" I asked almost tripping over my platform boots.

"Sorry." He slowed down when he saw me failing to keep up with his long strides.

"Are you okay? You been acting weird this morning." I looked up at him.

"Did you go out last night to see the wolves. You never answered Leah." His voice sounded strained.

I paused. He couldn't possibly know that I actually went and seen the wolf and I doubt he followed me. I would know that considering he's the size of a building. Well not really but still! Maybe something in my face told him. Grandma always told me I showed my emotion so easily. Should I tell him the truth or lie. The truth seems the best option. I'm tired of the lies and the secrecy. I looked around so many people were walking around conversing I don't feel comfortable saying it here.

Jake must have understood. He took my hand and began walking again. He looked around until he found what he was looking for. Mr. Uley's empty classroom. We walked in and Jake closed the door. The sounds of the hallway becoming muffled.

"Mr. Uley doesn't have a class this block so it's empty." Jake said.

I leaned against the door and nodded, "Yes, I went to see the wolf! The wolf didn't hurt me or anything. So, I think Leah was a bit dramatic."

"No, she wasn't. That was dangerous. You don't know what else was out that."

I looked at him. He looked very worried, but I could take care of myself. I wouldn't have done it if I didn't feel safe.

"Don't chastised me like a little kid because I'm not!" I said angrily.

"I never said you were. Just that you should be careful." He shot back.

"I was and for your information the wolf LOVED me. I even gave it a name."

He paused for a second and a secret smile grazed his plump lips, " You did?"

"Yes. His name is Thunder." I sticked my tongue out at him.

He busted out laughing. His shoulders shook with uncontrollable laugher as he doubled over in pain. I just stood there.

"It's not that funny!" I stomped my foot.

"It is a little." Jake cleared his throat and wiped the tears that fell during his boisterous laughter.

"Whatever, but I'll be careful next time okay. It was just that something was pulling me to it and not just the wolf. The forest too."

He nodded as if understanding what I'm saying, but he couldn't. He couldn't completely understand where what I was feeling inside.

"You're not going to tell Grandma, are you?" I said warily.

He walked closer to me chewing on his bottom lip. He took my hands in his, leaning down to look me in the eyes. His chocolate brown eyes warm like a mug of hot chocolate.

"I won't tell. It'll be our secret." He nodded.

I nodded along with him happy that he'll keep it hidden but sick to my stomach that another lie will be in the air between grandmother and granddaughter.

"Thank you." I hugged him around his neck gently. Enjoying the feel of his warm touch.

We hugged for a minute before I leaned back and looked up at him. His eyes conveyed love. Love as a friend or love as... something else. I'm not sure, but when he leaned closer towards me that answer should have seemed obvious, but the doubt in my head kept surfacing. His hands tightened on my waist, pulling me closer to his hard body as his lips came closer and closer. Since I got here, I wanted to know what those lips taste like. What his lips felt like and I might just get my chance now. His lips gently grazed mine making me gasp a little. The feather soft touch of his lips sent my body shivering and hot all at once, but I wanted more. I wanted to feel his lips crushed against mine. Gasping for air as we explored each other's mouth. I leaned closer about to stand on my tiptoes to cover the last inch that was needed to fully touch each other and...

RING!RING!RING!.

I jumped as the bell for rung for first period. I didn't realize that much time has passed. I moved away from Jake not able to look him in the eyes. The blush on my cheeks were probably soo evident.

"Uh...um.. I'll see you at lunch okay." My voice only raised to a whisper.

Quickly looking up I saw him nod as I turned around opened the door and entered the still full hallway. Dodging people running to get to their first class. As fast as my platform boots permit me to walk, I thankfully made it too class a little after the warning bell rang signaling teachers to start closing and locking their doors.

"Take you seats everybody. I will be handing out your logarithmic papers and then we will be going on with class." Mr. Polstrow said.

He went through the rows of desk handing out papers. When he finally got to me, he handed the paper back. B+. Good enough.

"Ms. McCowell. Do you have the rest of the homework that was sent to you?" He looked at me expectantly.

I nodded preemptively, hoping the blush has faded from my face. I rummaged through my pack until I found the papers and lifted them to give it to Mr. Polstrow.

He nodded, "Thank you." And put them on his desk.

"Let's begin, class."

In the last few days Mr. Polstrow started a new chapter. Along with logarithms he's added negative logarithms, base logarithms, and Base 'e' which doesn't seem that much different from before which I am glad for. Concentrating was the difficult part. Me and Jake's kind of sort of kiss is still making my heart pound in my chest. My fingers brushed against my lips remembering when his soft lips grazed mine.

The whole first block I played back the conversation and the kiss over and over in my head. There was more Jake wanted to say in that conversation. His face said just as much, but he's holding. Either because of his own merit or someone asked him to. I don't know. Also, what he said as well.

You don't know what else was out there.

Meaning he wasn't afraid of the wolf hurting me. He was afraid of something else out there.

The next 3 block went by in a whoosh. Since my random ability to suddenly understand Quileute makes it easier to find out if someone is talking about me and some people still are of course, but the story has been twisted to someone coming in ganging up on me in the bathroom for stealing their men. Which I'm guessing men were Jake, Seth, Quil, and Embry. Pretty funny rumor though.

Second block was Ms. Steelwaters joyful face welcoming me back into school. There was still no homework from her, but she did give us a book to read. The Great Gatsby and we read the first 2 chapters and write a summary on it. Seems easy enough. Lunch was chicken tenders or hamburgers. Choosing chicken tenders was the easy choice. The hamburgers were squished flat and hard looking. Like always Jake saved a seat for me at our table. I felt my cheeks start to heat up again as I looked at him remembering what we almost did in Mr. Uley's classroom. He didn't say anything about it, but he kept one of his arms behind my chair while they were bickering and bantering about a movie, they saw the other night. After Lunch WA/Us history. After giving Mr. Cameron my homework, he started class with a slide show of the federal legislation of the Missouri compromise. I stayed focus in this classroom. Writing down what seemed necessary and listening to Mr. Cameron delve deep into the subject at hand.

Once the bell rang, I closed my binder and walked to Mr. Uley's class. Deciding to take a little more time getting there. Cause once I get in there, I'll have to face Jake and that room and especially Mr. Uley. Remembering he had matching tattoos with Jake so he's automatically apart of this whole thing. Entering the room just as the warning bell rang throughout the building. Leah, Quil, and Embry was sitting down talking I didn't see any sign of Jake or Seth. I went and sat next to Quil.

"Hey guys. Where's Seth and Jake."

Leah shrugged, " Probably in the bathroom." She nonchalantly.

"Have you heard?" Quil was bouncing in his chair.

"About what?"

"Some guy wants to ask you out." Leah rolled her eyes.

"Who?"

"Not just some guy apparently. Senior Michael Bishops." Embry said.

I wrinkled my nose. I heard girls talking about a Michael Bishop. He's supposed to be just as hot as Jake, but I never seen him before.

"Why would he want to ask me out?"

"That's what I was saying." Leah snickered.

"He thinks you're hot." I jumped as Seth voice rose in front of me. I didn't notice Jake and Seth entering the room.

Seth laughed while Jake looks straight grumpy. They sat down. I opened my mouth to speak but Mr. Uley spoke up first.

"Okay class is beginning. Quiet down." His eyes landed on me, " Welcome back Ms. McCowell."

I nodded slightly ducking my head.

"Now on Friday we were going around the room asking questions about other cultures before delving in deep into Quileute because there is very similarity in a lot of cultures. Does anybody else have any questions?"

A few people did raise their hands asking questions like dragons and ghosts and if there's a Quileute version of the Chupacabra, but I figured this could be my chance to learn more about Shamans. To learn more about that book.

I gingerly raised my hand.

"Yes Ms. McCowell?"

"What about Shamans?"

In unison Jake and the gang wiped their heads to stare at me. 'What' I mouth to them.

Mr. Uley smiled and began to speak, " Shaman's are very extensive human beings. They show up in a lot of folklore, cultures, and even in some religions. They are people who have been chosen to be more closely in tuned with the world around us. They are spell binders and weavers of this world and the next."

"So, their witches." A girl, I think her name is Lia, said.

"Not necessarily. A lot of people believe witches to be branded by Satan and do more harm than good. Hence their witch hunts from centuries ago. Some believe their mere fantasies. People twisting their fears and belief into something to be afraid of. Like Halloween, but in recent years the term witches have been a term of empowerment in woman. Not necessarily have anything to do with magic or powers." He went on.

"Shamans are chosen by a higher power. They are chosen to fight, heal, and love their community. They are chosen to speak on the behave of good and evil spirits. In cultures where there are shamans they are highly regarded, loved, and trusted. They are able to speak to animals and plants, walk through this world and the next one. I can tell you soo much about a Shaman, but it'll never be enough to tell you kids how much they do for their communities."

"Wow." I whispered.

"There's aren't any Shaman's here, are they. I haven't seen one." A guy named Jerry asked.

"I'm not completely sure about that one. My grandfather did believe there was a Shaman during his time, but their identity was kept hidden."

"But how exactly are their chosen?" I asked.

"Some say it's God or some type of higher being. I've heard that their power runs in the family. Like blood type of hair color." His eyes watched me as he walked across the front of the room.

I opened my mouth to ask what Shaman has to do with Kwaiti but the girl Lia cut me off.

"What about Greek Mythology? Are they any similar to us."

Just like any talk of Shamans were gone and into the similarities of Greek and Roman Mythology. Mr. Uley pretty much spoke what I already know. What I didn't know about was why were they hidden. Shamans were revered in their community, so their identity was known to everybody. So, what happened for them to hide their identity for their people.

The class went on just like that. Us asking questions about other cultures and myths until the bell rang for our dismissal.

I was walking out with Jake until I heard my name being called.

"Ms. McCowell can I see you for a minute." It wasn't a question.

Jake looked back for a second before grabbing my hand and squeezing it, whispering in my ear, " I'll be outside the door" before walking out.

Once the room was empty, he spoke, "Are you feeling better after the incident?"

I paused I didn't expect him to ask that question, "Yes, I feel a lot better thank you."

"That cut of yours healed nicely. Now, how much do you know about Shamans."

"Uhhh not much. Google doesn't really have much in the Native American field."

He nodded, "Yess, Assimilation. I believe you'll do good in this class. If you need anything at all you can come to me. That is all." My dismissal.

Was Mr. Uley nice to me? It seems that he was or maybe he just pitied me on what happened. After I met Jake and the gang out of the door, we walked out of the school together.

"So what did Mr. Uley want?" Embry said.

"I'm not sure. He just asked me if I felt better and stuff." I shrugged.

"Uhh excuse me." I turned. A guy hurried to meet me. He was about a few inches shorter than Jake, but he was still at least 5'11 or 5'9 at the most. His hair wavy locks coming to his shoulders. He had a straight nose and a broad chin. Light brown eyes with eyelashes that when on for days and a lean yet muscular chest. He was coming straight towards me.

"Your Miracle, right? I've seen you around school and the reservation."

I nodded not sure what else to say.

"I'm Michael. Michael Bishops." He smiled showing pearly whites.

My mouth made an 'oohh' shape as I recalled us talking about him last block.

"Ohh Michael hi. Um. I can't say I've seen you around before." Why did I say that!

"It's cool." He smiled coolly.

"What do you want, Bishop." Jake said coldly.

"Jake!" I hissed at him.

"I just wanted to talk to Miracle." Michael shrugged.

"Well sorry, but we're a bit busy right now." Jake smiled but there was no warmth in that smile.

He grabbed my hand and ushered me away from Michael, who was looking confused at Jake. I looked at Jake is disbelief. I can't believe he would be the cold to Michael.

"Jake! Jake! Stop!" I yelled.

"Jake let her go." Seth soothed.

I wrenched my hand from Jake's grasp, " What was that all about. That wasn't nice."

"I'm sorry. I just don't like him."

"That's doesn't mean you get to be mean, Jake."

"He might be just protecting you, Miracle. I've heard stories about him. He's a player." Seth put a hand on my shoulder.

"You don't have to keep protecting me you're not my guardians." I shot back.

There was a pause as they looked at each other.

"And maybe I wanted him to ask me out." I blurted out.

Jake stared at me, hurt evident on his face, "You wanted him to ask you out?"

I don't know. I don't even know Michael like that. I could have just said it to be mean, but I never really had a boyfriend before. Just like friends that's another thing about relationships I've never experience.

"Yes. No. Maybe. I don't know."

The one thing I know is Jake doesn't own me. We're not together but that kiss earlier felt like we were. But we're not. He never asked me.

"Okay you know what. What makes you think you can talk to her about this stuff. You're a guy." Leah rolled her eyes.

"So, what does that have to do with the conversation." Jake curled his fingers into a fist.

"So, she not going to talk to you guys about this. This is a girl-on-girl talk." She wrapped an arm around my shoulders.

"Whhaa... Butt..." Jake stuttered.

"Seth stay over at Jake's for a while." Leah already pulled me with her walking towards her house.
