HONK!
Julie had to fight the hand she had no control over for her wardrobe, she kept telling herself she was having a dream but even her most waking nightmare wasn't like this, a part of her was becoming her enemy. She appeased it by putting on the swimsuit, "Ok! Ok! Happy?" She put clothes over top of it, but only ones the hand didn't try to rip off of her. A blue tank top could be worse, and some break away Nike pants, not ideal, she didn't understand what it was trying to tell her. She knew she couldn't keep Helen waiting and the next bus stop was several blocks from her.
Helen saw Julie looking like a mental patient running out her front door, it didn't even look like she did her hair.
Helen laughed when Julie opened her door, "Find your Halloween costume, Julie James?"
Julie made a face and buckled up, "I really don't want to hear it today, thanks."
Helen saw Molly on her front lawn being chastised by her mother, maybe she had been slacking off, Julie didn't pay her much mind but her hand sure did, it raised itself up high at arms' length and waved at Molly.
"What are you doing?" Helen thought her friend had lost it.
"What?" Julie seriously didn't feel her arm lift up just then but did catch it in time to pull it under her ass when she saw it saluting the girl next door, "Ah!"
Helen sped off, she could see Molly waving as she got smaller and smaller, "Ha! Ha! What the fuck was that all about?"
Julie was too busy trying to suffocate her hand under her ass cheek to process whatever Helen was babbling about, Helen raised an eyebrow at Julie when she saw her moving her body like she was avoiding a bee sting.
"Just drive!"
Helen parked away from the school to see if she could stop this freakout, she unbuckled and grabbed onto Julie's face, "Seriously what is going on?"
"That dope. It turned me into a freak!"
Helen rolled her eyes, "Julie. You're fine. We didn't even smoke that much. You're a light weight. Maybe you got a little paranoid but you're fine. It should be out of your system by now."
"Are you sure there wasn't something else in it?"
"Positive. I can tell. Trust me."
Julie took deep breaths, she was on the verge of a nervous breakdown, she felt like she needed a paper bag to help control herself.
"M-my hand...I have no control over it..."
Helen saw her hand parked right underneath her keester and wondered what the hell got into her, "Right. Did your hand also pick out your wardrobe?"
Julie had tears in her eyes, "Yeah..."
"Ok. You know what Julie? You are having a dream."
Julie was taken aback, "I-I am?"
"Yup and all you can do right now is do everything like normal."
"Normal?"
"Yup. We're going to go to school. Do everything like we do every day. When the day is over, and you wake up tomorrow everything will be back to normal."
Julie got quiet for a moment. Could it be? This was all really a dream? All she had to do was get through it and she would be back to normal? Maybe it was true. Just some psychedelic dream come on by smoking some bad bud.
"Ok," Julie said, taking another deep breath, "I'm ready."
"Good."
Helen knew how to shut her up, maybe now she'll be normal or at least in her case.
Julie's hand seemed to act normal again, she zoned out listening to her English teacher, didn't really matter she always passed English with little to no effort. Her right hand was on the top of her desk, she didn't notice at first that she was tapping her fingernails on it, got louder and louder, other students were noticing. Julie could feel the heat of embarrassment, she tried prying it off with her other hand when she couldn't control it, in a last-ditch effort she shoved a pen in it like it was stuffing its mouth to shut up. Silence. At least for the time being, Julie remembered what Helen said, this had to be a dream, once this day ended everything would be back to their boring lives. She heard a scratch-scratch coming from the desk now; she didn't even feel what her hand was doing now. She jumped a little when she saw it scribbling with the pen on the desk; she was about to have a mini heart attack, she had never gotten into trouble before, she thought maybe she could spit on the inked doodle to avoid getting yelled at for vandalism. 'This is a dream, duh!' Julie thought to herself, doesn't matter it will be gone by tomorrow. Her hand blocked its artwork but it started to slow down and finally move away from its masterpiece.
In a heart shape were two names: JULIE & MOLLY 4EVER
Julie snorted, some close by to her heard her but didn't stare for long; she covered her mouth, that was so random that she had to laugh. The bell rang, lunchtime, she could go meet Helen outside inform her that this dream might have some Freudian implications. On her way out she saw Molly at her locker; even in a dream she looked perfect, this innocent girl that her dream self or at least her hand had a crush on. Julie looked around, everyone was busy going to have an imaginary lunch. 'What the hell!' Julie strutted over to Molly, this would be something to tell Helen the next day and joke about. Julie got close to Molly and leaned against the locker next to her.
"Sup!" Julie said bluntly, she thought she'd channel her inner dumb jock.
Molly seemed amused, maybe just a little shy to say anything, "Hi," she said before looking back inside of her locker.
"How you doin' girl?" Even Julie didn't know what she was really doing, she found it hard not to find this dream ridiculous, she thought maybe she would laugh herself awake at any moment.
Molly smirked and finally gave her a little more attention, "Fine. How about you?"
"Good, girl," her hand took control again and pulled at Julie's blue tank, she was wondering if it was trying to tell her to pull it off or what, "Sure is hot in here today, huh?"
"Er, yeah," she continued to smile, maybe Dream Molly only had one emotion.
The hand swept its fingers across Molly's shoulder, "You're looking hot, girl."
Molly giggled, maybe wondering what this strange girl was up to, why she was acting like some playa at a club. Julie thought she caught her staring at her arm, she decided it would be hilarious to flex for her seeing that she had no real muscle.
"Oh? You like what you see?" Molly blushed when Molly's right hand moved a lone strand of hair away from her eyes, "We should really get together some time."
Molly's mouth was wide open and stayed that way; a very realistic reaction to have even for a dream. Julie walked away, swaying her hips, she looked back and caught Molly still watching her, "Oh, what the hell," she said out loud, she tore her break away pants off and let her possessed hand rip her top off; it even gave her butt a little smack just for Molly. Everyone got a good look at preppy girl Julie James in a bikini that left no imagination to her curves; Molly was still as a statue, she didn't blink, a light breeze could have knocked her over with ease. Julie blew Molly a kiss and strutted herself out of the building.
Julie woke up the next day feeling refreshed, but she needed to test something out, she rotated her wrist and spread the fingers of her right hand, nothing out of the ordinary, she had full control. She breathed a sigh of relief and got changed, normal clothes, nothing revealing whatsoever, and she even walked outside at the same time Helen pulled up, she was genuinely surprised.
"You would not believe the dream I had last night," she told Helen, buckling up.
Helen was uneasy she swallowed and said, "Er, yeah."
Helen turned up the radio like she was cutting Julie off completely, talk of a killing last night in the park; Helen actually got bored and changed stations, as long as they weren't cancelling the dance what did she care?
Helen stopped the car a block before they got to school, "Whoa, what's up?" Julie asked, concerned by the worried look on her friend's face.
"Julie, maybe you shouldn't go to school today."
Julie laughed, "What? Why? I'm fine."
"It's just that...," she paused seeing Julie's dopey grin, she could be such a schmuck, "Never mind."
She drove up to the school, Julie was confused when students turned their heads and cheered when they saw them, everyone, it was like they were celebrities or something.
"What's all that about?"
Helen parked the car and grabbed her, "That wasn't a dream you had! You practically streaked in front of the whole school!"
Julie's eyes widened; she had a sudden panic but it ended with a laugh, "What? What's so funny?"
"You seriously had me there for a second, Helen. Good one. You're getting better material."
Julie hopped out of the car with her backpack before Helen could stop the clueless brunette. Julie got catcalls in the hallway, it was weird, she was never really the center of attention, she always thought of herself as average. Molly was at her locker, when she saw Julie she waved, Julie reluctantly waved back. 'No way,' she thought, 'It was a dream. I didn't really...wait!'
Julie ran to the English classroom, she didn't have that class that morning but she had to be sure. She almost pushed a student over flying through the door, she saw on her desk the scribbling her hand made.
JULIE & MOLLY 4EVER
Julie thought she was going to pass out, fake flirting with Molly, walking around in a bikini. It was time to go home.
"So you hit on Molly, huh?" Helen teased, driving Julie home; the poor girl slumped over in her seat. Helen tickled her chin, "Oh come on, she is cute."
Julie swatted her hand away, "I am never going to live this down."
"Look at this way, James. You defiantly got yourself noticed and if that was what you plan on wearing to the dance you're so going to win best costume!"
"Ugh! I am never listening to you again."
The radio came on with a special news bulletin, the Chief of police mentioned some more details from the crime scene at the park, a ripped green sweater, one sleeve removed and potentially covered in blood was missing along with muddy shoe prints at the scene, about a size 6. Julie had enough to worry about, though being murdered didn't sound so bad right now.
"Hey, I can stay and keep you company."
"It's ok," Julie said, massaging her forehead, too much stress for the past couple days.
"Ok, well draw yourself a bath or something I'll come check on you later."
"Thanks," Julie said, slouched over, getting out of her car.
"I'll pick you up something special!"
"Huh? Wait, Helen, you're not..."
She sped off before Julie could yell at her not to get her anymore drugs.
Julie tossed her backpack on the floor, something she didn't commonly do but that morning of humiliation really took its toll on her. She crashed on her bed, she needed to work up the energy to draw herself a bath like Helen suggested. She couldn't believe how much a little bit of weed ruined her life in such a short span of just two days. She noticed something in the corner of her eye, draped over the chair at her desk, it was red and red. Why did that sound familiar? Julie forced herself up and looked directly at the mystery object. It looked like a piece of sweater with dark reddish stains on it. 'NO'.
Julie looked at it more closely, it was the sleeve, the ripped sleeve from the park! Julie fell backward onto her bed, she wanted to scream but nothing came out. She remembered the other detail the cop mentioned and ran to the front door mat, she checked the soles of her shoes, dried mud. Julie dropped them and walked back into her room. This couldn't be true. This had to be a nightmare. She had to still be dreaming. She had to be...
To be continued!
