The Avengers of the Seven Kingdoms
Captain Westeros / Steffon Rogers
House Rogers of Amberly is a noble house from the Stormlands. In the year 180 after Aegon's Conquest, Steffon Rogers was born a sickly child without much strength.
Ever since he was a little child, Steffon dreamed of becoming a fine warrior one day and live up to the holy vows knights take. To protect the innocent from harm and to vanquish evil. However, he is a third son and his Lord father plans for Steffon to become a Maester as with his weak body he would never actually become a knight. After Steffon's 16th name day, his father sends him to the Citadel with some guards to help him on the road and some gold to use on the way.
However, when Steffon leaves Amberly for Oldtown, the first Blackfyre Rebellion begins. He's eager to help fight the rebels but with his weak body is unable to. When he reaches the Citadel and his dreams of fighting in the war became known by the Maesters, he is quietly approached by one of them with a mad idea.
A ritual recovered from Stygai by Asshai explorers. Apparently, if performed correctly it changes a man's body to become strong and powerful. The Maester was reluctant to perform the ritual, fearing that the person granted such power would become a monster and hurt innocent people. Until now, that is. With Steffon's strong moral code and desire to help those in need, he is judged a perfect candidate by the Maester.
The ritual is painful and Steffon is asleep for most of it, due to the large amount of Milk of the Poppy used to numb the pain. A good thing too, for if he was awake he'd see the Maester sacrifice several condemned men and use their blood in the magics. But, once the ritual is over and Steffon awakens, he sees his body has changed. He's taller and muscular. He can bend steel with his hands, can run very fast and his reflexes have heightened considerably.
However, his joy at becoming such a fine warrior is cut short. For a spy, after seeing the results of the ritual, kills the Maester responsible and flees with notes about it to deliver them to the Blackfyre Pretenders. Steffon pursues the spy but loses him in the many alleys of Oldtown. Feeling that he failed in his duty, he decides to atone by defeating the Blackfyres. He demonstrates his new abilities to Lord Hightower and later Lord Tyrell in an effort to gain their support. They grant him equipment as well as fighting men. Additionally, he chooses a most unusual weapon for himself: a Shield. Circular, with the edges sharpened to cut like a sword.
Over the course of the Blackfyre Rebellion, Steffon becomes known as Captain Westeros due to his strict adherence to knightly vows and desire to protect the Seven Kingdoms. He wins many battles and duels and his reputation only grows. Songs are written about him. Young children gather to hear stories of his noble deeds.
Eventually at the near end of the war, he decides to pursue Aegor Rivers across the Narrow Sea when the man escapes to Tyrosh. Unfortunately, on the way the Captain's ship is caught by a strange thunderstorm and he vanishes... for a hundred years.
In 296 AC, merchants sailing to King's Landing from Braavos notice something unusual. An entire ship, though damaged, emerging from the waves in the middle of the sea. No storm in sight, not even a dark cloud on the sky. Yet the ship simply rises up, seemingly from the bottom of the sea.
They naturally investigate and find the ship almost empty, save for a single man with a shield, Captain Westeros.
Iron Man / Benjen Stark
Ever since he was a young boy, Benjen was fascinated with the knowledge on how things are made. He pestered Maester Walys with countless questions regarding all he knew. He observed how the blacksmiths of Winterfell went about their work.
He marvelled at the level of skilled craftsmanship required to create siege weapons, various pieces of small jewelery as well as various poisons and antidotes. He was in awe when he saw the Wall during a trip with Lord Rickard to see it. If such things can be made, what else can?
He dreamed of one day creating something which would surpass all those things.
Lord Rickard wasn't entirely enthusiastic about his son's Maesterly ambitions, but was reasurred once Benjen explained that he has no intention of swearing any celibacy vows or wearing chains on his neck. Instead, Rickard realized, Benjen simply wanted to prove that he had a brilliant mind. Of that, he could approve if his son did not shirk his duties. As such, Benjen was allowed to learn from the blacksmiths and other craftsmen.
While his brothers and sister told tales of Captain Westeros by the fireplace, Benjen was more interested in the Maester who gave the Captain his strength. While magic was out of Benjen's reach, he could simply pursue other means of reaching fame.
Unfortunately, his dreams were put on hold when the Tourney of Harenhall took place and after it, Benjen's family was lost. His father burned alive, his brother strangled to death and his sister taken to parts unknown.
When Eddard fought in the Rebellion, Benjen was forced to be the Stark in Winterfell, but when Eddard returned with two sons, one a trueborn and the other a a bastard Benjen left the North. He studied where he could. The Citadel, the Free Cities and even forced some remaining Pyromancers of King's Landing to give up some of their secrets.
The last group gave him an idea. His father died by wild, green fire, but Benjen would tame the substance. Control it and make it his own, only to be used as a weapon for good, never evil. The studies took years and many times his experiments were met with derision from others, but he continued.
Eventually, in the year 295 AC the sellswords fighting in the Disputed Lands on the side of Tyrosh were met with a nasty surprise from the Myrish side. A single man was approaching them, covered from head to toe with armor which looked too thin to withstand a hit from a blade.
Something seemed to be attached his arms, some sort of metal tubes. When one of the Tyroshi charged at the stranger with his sword, the stranger simply made a complicated gesture with both his thumbs and the impossible happened afterwards.
Twin balls of a sticky substance burning with ice-blue flames struck the Tyroshi in both his chest and his face. It did not take long for the flames to end his life. Thus the legend of the deadliest sellsword ever was born. The legend of Iron Man.
