Mr. Spook & Mr. Shark-Chapter 3
Thank you for all the amazing feedback. I'll continue to try and crank out some one-shots in between. Work has been draining lately and I'm hoping for a small break soon. I hope we get some more mentions of Mandy moving forward but we'll see. This one-shot picks up after the last chapter. I know we'd never see something like this on the show lol. Enjoy another chapter! Let me know what you think!
Sonny and Jason were playing cards in the kitchen. There still wasn't much to go on and they were taking a break from gathering intel. Sonny was also keeping an eye out for Jason. It wasn't easy being away from your loved ones to begin with but having one in a warzone just as dangerous as the one you were currently in, that had to be harder.
"Go fish," Jason said.
"Again?" Sonny asked.
"Yes, Sonny. You did a shit job shuffling," Jason rolled his eyes. "What are we five? Playing go fish?"
"Figured it would help with your brain exercises," Sonny chuckled as Jason gave him a look.
"I am fine. Everything is under control," Jason said.
"Right," Sonny drawled. "Not like it's been two weeks since you made contact with Mandy and are starting to spin out again. Listen, you're not the only one following the news out there. We're all ignoring the advice we give everyone about watching the news."
"Amanda Ellis not only has bad guys bend to her will but an entire SEAL team too," Jason shook his head. "She wouldn't believe it if I told her."
"She's got family back home though, right?" Sonny asked.
"No," Jason sighed.
"Sibling? Parents? Cousins even?" Sonny asked, surprised. "Everyone's got someone back home."
"Doesn't know her father is. As for her mother, it's complicated. She's an only child. Has some friends from college and the book club, but tends to keep her distance," Jason sighed.
Sonny was shocked at the information he learned, "One thing I know is when it comes to parents, things are always complicated."
"Complicated like your mother was a con-artist criminal?" Jason raised an eyebrow at Sonny's surprised face. "Yeah, she said when she joined the agency, she thought she'd be helping people and doing the opposite of what her mother did."
"But she thinks she became her mother," Sonny concluded. "She took out a lot of bad people in this world. Found justice for brothers of ours that have fallen. It counts for something."
"She thinks she became her mother cuz of the way she sometimes persuaded assets to helping," Jason explained. "People think she's cold hearted and emotionless. That she doesn't give a shit about our lives but it's the farthest from the truth. She's kind and thoughtful. She works the problem every angle she can to bring everyone home. She doesn't let many people in but…"
"But somehow she let you in," Sonny finished for Jason. "I know I give her a hard time, but I know she's done right by us. I've seen her hard work pay off in our victories. I've also seen her pay some steep prices for us and not say one word. The team knows it too. It's why we all worry."
"Could really use her right about now on this intel stuff," Jason chuckled.
"If you wanted a bunk mate, all you had to do was ask," Sonny laughed.
"Not sure if Mandy is into sharing," Jason smirked. "She's very protective of me."
"Why do I feel like there is some underlying meaning to that for you guys," Sonny smiled as his phone buzzed.
Sonny looked down at his phone to see an encrypted text had come through. Confused at not knowing the number, he opened it to see and address. Another message came through saying he and Jason should go to it that afternoon. Looking at the time, Sonny realized it was two hours away.
"Well, I'll be damned," Sonny muttered seeing who the text was from.
"What's wrong?" Jason asked concerned.
"Let's go out this afternoon," Sonny declared to a confused Jason.
"Sonny, where the hell are we going?" Jason said as they walked through back alleyways to avoid as much attention as possible.
"We're almost there?" Sonny answered.
"Almost the fuck where!" Sonny exclaimed.
"Look," Sonny sighed turning to face Jason. "We're going to the fountain of youth."
Jason froze hearing Sonny's answer, "Sonny."
"I got a message to show up at an address just down the block here from someone calling themselves spooky magic," Sonny shrugged. "Said to check in under Bell."
Jason's heart was hammering, "Spooky magic?"
"Yeah, like voodoo magic powers. Certainly has them over you," Sonny said. "Now, can we continue?" Sonny asked as Jason nodded.
A few minutes later they arrived at a small shop and walked in. The bell above the door rang and someone behind the counter turned to greet them.
"Hi," Sonny greeted with a smile. "Here for Ms. Bell."
"Yes, come, come. This way," the man smiled back as he led them into another room. "Doctor be right with you."
A few minutes later, an American doctor walked in, "Gentleman, my name is Dr. Walter. You must be Jeffery Spook and Samuel Shark."
Jason held in a chuckle at the name Samuel Shark as he looked at Sonny's face, "I'm Jefferey and this here is Mr. Shark."
"Ready for your stem cell treatment Mr. Spook?" the doctor asked as he setup the drip for Jason.
"How?" Jason said as he sat down in a chair.
"Ms. Bell has eyes and ears everywhere," the doctor chuckled. "Over there is a scheduled shipment she has arranged for some friends of yours."
Sonny walked over to the paperwork the doctor was pointing at. He opened the file and saw that the YPJ was being sent a couple truck loads of supplies. Sonny was impressed. Even in the middle of a warzone, Mandy was still working her magic.
"And for you Mr. Shark," the doctor said, setting down a couple fine whiskey bottles.
"My god, you are one lucky son of a bitch, Mr. Spook," Sonny said sitting down and looking over the whiskey.
"Alright, you should be all set. I'll check in on you in a little bit," the doctor said as he left the room.
Jason leaned his head back and closed his eyes. Tears were coming together at the lengths Mandy had gone through to get this for him. He'd worried her on that phone call. He didn't know how he'd ever repay her for all this. She was helping people in another country, yet somehow found a way to help him too. No one had ever gone to such great lengths for him. Jason felt like he didn't deserve all this.
"You better stop all those thoughts going through your head right now," Sonny said, cutting off Jason's thoughts.
"You know, after rescuing her, we were seeing each other. We'd meet up in Rehoboth," Jason began talking. "As usual, she asked what this was, and I said it was more this time around."
"This time around?" Sonny raised an eyebrow. "Always knew something went on with the two of you."
"Then I brought the building down on all of you," Jason shook his head. "Saw my Dad too and everything went downhill from there. I couldn't even bring myself to break things off. She knew what I was doing when I went back to the room. I shut her out. The one person who has always been by my side and I pushed her away. I broke her heart, Sonny. She was pushing lightly for more and I just…," he trailed off. "Before we left for Omega, blew things up with Emma. I left letters in my cage for the kids. And her."
"Letters?" Sonny asked concerned. "Jesus, Jason, why didn't you say anything sooner."
"I was gonna go out on my own terms," Jason admitted.
"How'd you get her back then?" Sonny asked.
"Followed your advice," Jason chuckled as he looked at a confused Sonny. "You told me you followed my advice of giving it your all. So, I hunted down her address, which was no easy task. Almost impossible to find out where she lived. Showed up on her doorstep telling her I wanted to fight for things in my life, including her."
"And she was weak in the knees by your romantic gesture and the rest is history," Sonny laughed.
"Actually no," Jason smiled at Sonny's shocked face. "Book club interrupted us."
"Book club? Doesn't surprise me she's a reader," Sonny thought aloud.
"Later that evening, there's a knock at my door. I'm thinking it's Emma, but I open the door and there she is. She said she had questions and that interrogations were more effective in person. Then she insulted my apartment," Jason continued telling the story.
"She ain't wrong. It's a dump, Jace," Sonny said honestly. "So, what did the great Jason Hayes do to woo Ms. Spook?"
"Told her she was my reward for all the blood and trauma of war," Jason smirked.
"You two really are one of a kind," Sonny shook his head. "Two bad asses ready to take on the evil of the world. Maybe you two should make a business of that."
"Maybe," Jason shrugged. "First, gotta figure out how to make all this up to her."
"Well, I got one idea," Sonny said.
"What's that?" Jason asked.
"Put a ring on it before I do," Sonny said making them both laugh.
"And what would Davis say to that?" Jason laughed at a shocked Sonny.
A few days later, Bravo team had met up with the YPJ to try another target. They came back to the YPJ base camp just as a couple truck loads of supplies came. The YPJ commander was surprised and looked over towards Ray.
"You kept your word," the commander said.
"We didn't-," Ray began to explain before being interrupted.
"Regards from Ms. Bell," Jason and Sonny said together, causing the team to look at them.
"Ms. Bell?" the commander questioned. "You know her? Is she in town?"
"Yeah, know her pretty well," Jason shrugged casually. "She's out attending other business at the moment though."
"Tell her thank you then," the commander shook Jason's head.
"Will do," Jason replied as Bravo team got back into their cars to head back to their safe house.
"What the hell was that Jason?" Ray asked. "Who is Ms. Bell?"
"Word travels fast in this part of the world Ray. Trust me, she's on our side. Always has been and always will be," Jason replied with a smile.
"And I for one am pretty damn grateful to be on her good side," Sonny replied. "Even if she calls me Mr. Shark," Sonny said making Jason laugh.
