John felt his phone vibrate around 9:30 at night. He answered it quickly since it was Sam on the other end.

"Hey, we don't know if something is wrong with this baby." Sam said.

John sat his drink down. "Do you think he got scratched or bit?"

Sam sleepily yawned. "No. He looks fine. He just gets really upset around the same time each night. He's clean and fed."

John relaxed. "Some people call it colic. Some people say that could be his witching hour. Some babies just have a set time during the day that they just cry."

Sam wondered if that had anything to do with why he and his parents were driving around at night.

"It usually starts a little later but that is my guess." John said. "Does Jess have him?"

Sam yawned again. "Yeah."

"Wrap him up and take him outside." John said.

Sam popped his neck. "Isn't that dangerous?"

"Stay on your steps. When you were a baby, you'd scream until we took you outside for a few minutes. It only lasted a few weeks. I forgot about that." John said.

Sam chuckled softly. "Now it is Kate who does that."

John glanced toward the stairs, almost expecting to see his youngest looking at him. "I can send her outside by herself now."

Sam held the phone to his chest to muffle the baby's cries. "Dad says to take him outside."

Jess wrapped Jacob in a fuzzy blanket and pulled her coat on. "What if he wakes people up?"

Sam shrugged and opened the door. He sat down on the steps and helped Jess set down. He put an arm around her shoulders and put the phone back to his ear. "He doesn't seem much calmer."

John told him to give it a minute.

Slowly, Jacob stopped crying as loudly. There was a light breeze that sent chills over them. That seemed to quiet him.

"If you have him any longer, it would be a good idea to split up the night. It was so hard on Mary when you'd cry like that. She felt like it was her fault. Now, they tell new parents to swap out. That way, you don't get so tired of the crying that you get frustrated." John said.

Sam let his shoulders and neck relax. Jacob was wide eyed but quiet. He was content. "Thanks, dad."

John was content too. He was good with the boys when they were newborns. They were so simple at that age. Dean just ate constantly, which hadn't changed in 23 years. "Let Jess get some rest. I'd say he'll fall asleep in the next few minutes."

Sam took the baby from Jess. "Head inside. I'll be in once he falls asleep." Sam felt like he was going to drop the baby or lose him in the blanket. Milo was smaller but had claws and a meow. All Jacob had was his voice. He waited for Jess to shuffle inside and took a deep breath. "Dad, what if his dad doesn't heal?"

John scratched his chin. "He can go to Marie's house, or they might have a family member to take him."

Sam stared into his eyes. "You haven't seen the way Jess looks at him."

"You two are young. Taking care of a baby for a few days isn't the same as long term. If something happens, there are plenty of places for him to go." John said.

Sam held his finger next to Jacob's hand and smiled when he grabbed it. "Try telling her that."

"Does she realize that she will have to hand him off when his dad shows up?" John asked with a smirk.

"Yes. I think so at least. Kidnapping means jail time and then she wouldn't get to see him anyway." Sam said.

"Just remind her of that." John said. He had a nice relaxing talk with Sam until Jacob drifted off to sleep. There wasn't much to talk about as far as school went but just talking felt good.

(Friday)

Kate woke up buzzing with excitement. She ran into Dean as she exited her room.

Dean stopped her. "Why are you so happy?"

Kate bounced on her toes. "Today is the last day of school before dad and I go to Tennessee."

"Oh, yeah." Dean said, faking that it wasn't a big deal. "I don't know, the trip sounds boring."

Kate jumped on his back and pointed to the stairs. "You sound boring."

Dean sat her down next to the table. "I prefer to spend my time not dealing with dead bodies."

"Hey, you hunt ghosts all the time." She froze. "Not that I will be hunting any or even thinking about hunting any."

Dean ruffled her hair. "Taylor and I will find something fun to do without you."

Karen sat plates on the table. "We need two strong young men like yourselves to help with Lauren's nursery."

Kate grinned.

"What do they need my help for?" Dean asked.

"There are shelves to hang and furniture to move. You can't expect Caleb to do all of that by himself." Karen said.

"Why not?" Dean asked. He didn't mind helping but he had to at least act uninterested.

"Because you and Taylor can help." Karen said. She gently patted his cheek and gave him a cup of coffee.

John was talking to Bobby about Jacob as they walked in.

"His dad is on the mend, right?" Bobby asked.

"He is from what Ryan says. He doesn't seem to be infected or anything. The doctors don't think the head injury will be a long-term thing." John said.

Kate perked up even more. "Baby Jacob?"

"Yes." John said. "While Jess is a little attached already, he does need to go back to his dad."

Kate elbowed Dean. "That's our future nephew."

John gave Kate a look. "He has one parent left. We aren't wishing him dead, Katelyn."

Kate's shoulders shot up to her ears. "I didn't say that."

"The best thing that can happen is that he and his dad move somewhere else and get on with their lives." John said.

Bobby was skeptical. "Do you really think he's going to shrug it off?"

"I've spoken to Ryan. He's going to encourage him not to go down the path that we did." John said.

"Did you try to encourage him not to?" Kate asked Bobby.

Bobby sighed. "There ain't much encouraging will do for this one." He motioned to John.

"No, much too stubborn." Kate said.

John eyed her. "Are you feeling bold today?"

Kate laced her fingers together and put them behind her head to stretch. "It was just an observation. Men of a certain type just go down that path no matter what you tell them."

John raised an eyebrow. "You are not too far off from that yourself."

Kate dropped her arms and leaned forward. "We share a bloodline. It isn't my fault."

John cleared his throat. "Go get ready for school."

Kate shrugged. "It's okay. I don't like being called out either."

John swatted her before she could make it to the hallway. "That attitude is going to get too far ahead of you."

Kate darted by him. "It's the bloodline's fault."

Dean rocked back in his chair and sipped his coffee. "Usually, I'm the one she is tormenting."

Karen smiled and poured another round of coffee. "Don't worry. Taylor is sure to pick up where she left off while she is gone."

"I can still beat him up." Dean said, knowing Taylor was headed down the stairs. "I just don't feel as bad about flipping him as I would Kate."

"I hold back." Taylor said.

"No one asked you to." Dean said with a snort.

Taylor thanked Karen for breakfast and sat down. "You've seen what I can do to a tree with a baseball."

Kate's footsteps were heard approaching the top of the stairs rather quickly.

"Kate, if you say my head is harder than a tree I will come up there and skin you." Dean said loudly.

The footsteps slowly retreated.

"Can she hear through the floor or was she listening?" Dean asked.

Taylor shrugged. "Each day is a conundrum."

"Can you hear like that?" Dean asked.

"I can kind of turn it on and off but can hear more than a normal person." He looked at John. "Except for dad."

"I am observant. That doesn't mean my hearing is any better than anyone else's." John said.

Dean didn't often disagree with John, especially lately, but he was with Kate and Taylor. The man had some freaky hearing. By the time Dean was a teenager, he was a well-rounded hunter. He had learned how to sneak in and out of places without alerting guard dogs or creatures. He had beat security systems and slipped by police officers. Maybe John could hear intent. That was the only thing that made sense. Teenage Dean had tried several times to sneak in or sneak out while John slept. He'd suddenly open his eyes and be up in an instant. Grabbing a cup of water never seemed to do that. That is why some of his more risqué outings happened while John was out of town. "You can hear when someone is going to do something stupid."

John pinched the bridge of his nose. "You all just do a lot of stupid things."

Dean shrugged. "Fair."

Kate got ready and ran back down the stairs. "Can you please drive us to school?"

Dean acted like he was thinking about it. "I don't know. That is out of my way."

Kate batted her eyelashes. "Please."

Dean got up. "Okay. Only because I don't want you making pitstops along the way to do anything."

"You are easier to memory wipe than a bus full of kids and a driver." Kate said.

Dean jingled his keys. "You can't compel me again. We talked about that."

Kate got her backpack. "I was just making an observation."

Dean gently shoved her. "You've been making a lot of those."

Taylor heard what Kate was thinking and hid a grin. He didn't rat her out but shared her amusement.

(Lee and Krissy)

Lee loved having Krissy with him again. She was a ray of sunshine and happy to be with him too. He didn't mind the constant talking but he did start to feel the weight of not traveling alone. Each stop took longer. They stopped more often. He couldn't just sleep in his car. He needed to get a motel so that she could rest well.

Krissy was so excited to be on the road, but she missed the bunnies. The car was kind of boring. She read her picture books and colored for a while. Then, she played with the doll that Marie got her. She talked to her dad a lot, but his answers weren't always great.

Lee stopped in a smaller town and parked the car. Krissy was getting tired. He paid for a motel room and put their stuff inside the room. Her duffle had definitely gotten heavier. There was one diner open, so they walked over to that.

Krissy ate but not much. Marie's food was better. She swung her legs and looked around at the decorations.

Lee whipped his head around when a look of terror crossed Krissy's face. "What?"

Krissy's bottom lip quivered and her eyes watered. "What is that?"

Lee squinted his eyes to see better and turned back around. "A rabbit's foot."

Krissy broke down into sobs and climbed under the table and up into Lee's arms.

Lee patted her awkwardly. "Why are you crying like that?"

"They cut a bunny foot off!" Krissy wailed.

Lee told her to calm down. "It is a good luck charm." He had to spend the rest of his meal consoling her. He wasn't even sure why she was that upset.

Krissy sniffled and let Lee carry her back to their room. She couldn't stop thinking about the baby bunnies and their tiny little feet.

Lee gently dropped her onto the bed. She fell asleep quickly so maybe that was it. She did have a tendency to get emotional when she was tired.

(Bobby's house)

The front door swung open, and a blur sprinted up the stairs.

Karen stepped into the hallway and cleared her throat. "You had better not tear that door off the hinges. These boys spent too much time fixing it."

Kate slid back to the top of the steps. "Sorry, Karen." She waited to be waved off and continued packing her bag. She grabbed the book about nephilian and added it to her backpack.

John wasn't leaving straight away. He needed to wrap a few things up but didn't stop her because she was just packing.

Dean checked in with Sam. He had a more comical approach to the baby situation than John did, but he cared just as much. Jess was good. Sam was good. The baby was good. He drummed his fingers on the steering wheel. "Taylor, you good?"

Taylor stepped closer to the car he had just vacated. "Living the dream."

Dean blew air through his nose.

Taylor smirked. "I'm good. The house is going to be so quiet. I might be able to think straight."

"Any plans over the break?" Dean asked with raised eyebrows.

The tips of Taylor's ears turned pink. "No."

Kate needed to talk to John. She found him in Bobby's office. He was on the phone. She leaned against the door facing and waited patiently.

John had just gotten a call from Lee Chambers. Lee was telling him about what Krissy did in the diner.

Kate bristled.

John narrowed his eyes. "I think she really liked those rabbits."

Lee sighed. "It was just a rabbit's foot. The thing was dead already anyway."

Kate looked away from the glare she was getting from John.

"I'm grateful to Rod and Marie but Krissy has gotten too soft staying over there." Lee said.

Kate moved closer. "Of course, she is too soft. She is five. At five, you were probably scared of the dark and you didn't know monsters were real. If you saw a human foot hanging from the wall, you'd be upset too. Ow! Dad."

John swatted her and pointed to the stairs. "Room, now."

Kate groaned. "But-"

John cut her off. "Now, Katelyn." He turned back to his conversation. "I apologize for Kate." He didn't disagree with her point. "It may take a few days for Krissy to readjust to being on the road."

Lee grumbled for a few minutes and let John go.

John pinched the bridge of his nose. He was about to go upstairs when Taylor walked in.

Taylor took one look at John's face and spun around and shoved Dean back onto the porch.

Dean grunted. "What was that for?"

Taylor shook his head. "I don't know but he didn't look happy."

Dean was puzzled. What had she done to make him mad? There was a long list of possibilities, but he usually saw it coming.

Kate bounced her legs. She frowned when John walked into the room. "I'm right."

John took a deep breath. "It doesn't matter. You do not talk to an adult like that."

Kate bit her lip. "You were thinking the same thing."

((TW))

John sat down on Kate's bed and flipped her over his lap. He started swatting since she wasn't quite in the mood for listening. Once his hand got warm, he paused. "You cannot interrupt my conversation and then mouth off like that. I don't care if you were right or not."

Kate wiggled slightly. "Okay. I understand." She yelped when he started smacking her thighs. "Dad, I understand."

John spanked until she started throwing in apologies. "Consider this an attitude adjustment. You've been skating by for weeks. Don't let it get you into any worse trouble."

Kate gritted her teeth through the last two that fell heavy across her sit spots. "Yes, sir."

John let her up. He held her at arms' length. "I want to take you on this trip but I'm not patient when it comes to sass while on the road."

Kate nodded. She was going to say that Lee wasn't the only one with unrealistic expectations but kept that little remark to herself.

John pulled her to him. "Krissy is five. I told Lee that much. I know that you are passionate about helping other kids, but you've got to take a warning when it is given to you."

Kate sighed. "The look?"

"So, I was clear then?" John asked.

"Yes. I just got mad." Kate admitted.

John rubbed her back. "You've got to work on that."

Kate shifted but wrapped her arms around his neck. "Blame that on the bloodline too."

John chuckled softly. "I mean it. I don't want any more disrespect out of you."

Kate let go. "Yes, sir."

John patted her leg. "Finish packing."

Kate tilted her head.

"You had been planning on leaving tonight, right?" John asked.

Kate crossed her arms. "Well not after that."

((ETW))

"First thing tomorrow morning." John said. He could use one more night of sleep before a long drive.

Kate climbed over Taylor's bed to look out the window. She giggled when Taylor ducked suddenly.

"Don't start a fight. You two can make it another night without another war." John said.

Kate turned her head. "He has good reactions. I was just testing him."

Taylor snapped his head to look at the window. He had heard the distinct sound of something flying at his head. Typically, it was just her voice when she threw sound at him. That time, she caught him off guard.

Dean nudged Taylor.

Taylor groaned. "She made me think something was about to hit me in the head."

Dean slowly nodded. "He didn't kill her then."

Taylor glared at the window. "Apparently not."

(Ryan and Tony)

Ryan made sure that Tony was medically alright. He answered Tony's questions about the wolves.

Tony was in shock. Those things only existed in stories. He saw them with his own eyes, but he just thought he was seeing things. "One got away."

Ryan sat beside Tony's bed. "He was hurt pretty bad."

Tony was piecing it all together. "Why did no one find my wife... her..." He couldn't bring himself to say body.

"I don't have an easy answer." Ryan said. "They typically leave something behind. I'm still looking into it."

Tony was broken. "We don't have family. I don't even have anyone to call to tell them she isn't here anymore."

Ryan felt the man's pain. He had a similar story although he didn't have any kids. "You'll get patched up and get out of here so that boy of yours can see you."

Tony broke down. How was he going to raise a kid by himself? "Jacob."

Ryan repeated the baby's name. "We weren't real sure what his name was at first."

Tony looked out the window. "Jacob Bradley. Her brother was named Bradley. She chose it to honor him."

"It's a strong name." Ryan said.

Tony got lost in memories and sorrow. He shut down and went blank.

Ryan gave him some space. He needed to find that wolf anyway.

(The next morning)

Sam was pleasantly surprised that they got through the night with minimal fussing. They did go outside right before Jacob would normally start crying. Babies were strange little creatures.

Jess rolled out of bed to make a bottle before Jacob woke to voice his thoughts on not having a bottle right away. They made that mistake twice. Hell hath no fury like a hungry baby. They had a weekend to relax a little bit. Her professors were understanding of her absence, but she couldn't make it a habit. If he was staying for a long time, she would say screw school so that she could stay home. Alas, he was going back to his dad in a few days. She returned to the room just as Sam was lifting him from his basket.

Sam unwrapped Jacob's arms from the swaddle, another one of John's ideas. He smiled as Jacob stretched. "Oh, big stretch."

Jacob's arms shot up and his legs curled up in the typical newborn stretch. He blinked twice and his bottom lip started to stick out.

Jess sat down and picked him up to feed him. They were going to need more formula. She let Milo jump into her lap as well and rested her head back against the wall. "Thanks for waking up with him last night."

Sam massaged her neck. "I only got up two times. The other times you were too fast."

Jess smiled. "Still, thanks."

Sam touched one of Jacob's feet. They were so tiny. He didn't have his baby footprints. Those got burned up in the fire. He didn't have baby photos. So, beyond what John told him, he didn't know what he was like as a baby. Surely, he was never quite that small.

Jess handed the baby off to Sam to burp so that she could wash the bottle out. She knew that Sam was going to be an awesome dad one day. It was just nice to see those little glimpses early on. She needed to get Jacob back to his dad because the baby fever was strong, and it didn't matter that she was sleep deprived. Maybe if he had another crying spell. She watched Sam gently pat the baby's back and cringed inwardly. Dammit. Crying spells or not, she was about to jump the man.

(John and Kate)

Kate dove back into her book. It was so detailed. She must, at some point, meet a good research crew. "We have an increase in a different type of cell that is kind of like a stem cell. Stem cells in typical humans can be used to fix certain issues. That is because they can transform into the type of cell that is needed. Taylor and I have stem cells on crack. Those help us heal and help us heal others. That is also why our blood could hurt certain people or creatures."

John had gotten a play by play of the book, but he was interested in the findings. "Why do they only heal certain injuries."

Kate scrunched her nose. "No idea." Damn her super stem cells for not saving her butt in a literal sense. She continued reading until something stopped her train of thought.

John saw her face change. "What?"

Kate wasn't sure how to feel. "We can't have kids."

John slowed down. "What do you mean?"

Kate shrugged. "We have too many extra things going on. We are hybrids so we can't reproduce."

John could see that the news hurt her.

Kate blinked rapidly. "That is okay. It isn't like I wanted to have a baby anyway. Taylor may be upset." She brushed it off. "I never have to go through a typical monthly cycle, but the mood swings and fatigue do show up."

John thought that Dean would find comfort in that. Dean was so prepared to be there for her but at the same time, wanted to steer clear of any of that talk. "Maybe you should skip that chapter."

Kate sighed and chose a random page in the book. "It says here that we did testing, and you actually do have abilities."

John furrowed his eyebrows and tilted the book. "It does not say that."

Kate held the book to her chest. "You don't know that. Your eyes are on the road."

John flicked her leg.

Kate grumbled and rubbed her leg. She turned another page and smiled to herself.

"Now what?" John asked.

Kate slowly looked up at him. "Hmm?"

"What is on that page?" John asked.

Kate tilted the book. "Just words."

John tapped the corner. "You were looking at that and smiled."

Kate pursed her lips for a moment. "You really should be focused on driving."

John raised an eyebrow.

"It is just a doodle that I do sometimes." Kate said. She pulled her journal from her bag and showed him a few pages with the doodle.

"What does it mean?" John asked.

Kate chewed her cheek. "That you are alive and well when this was written."

John had a feeling there was sass involved. "You'll have to loop me in."

Kate licked her lips. "I'm only saying this because we are on a trip meant for bonding and you've forced my hand. When I'm frustrated with you, I tend to draw that."

John slowed down to get another look at the drawing. "I have seen that at least a dozen times."

Kate gave him a sheepish grin. "What can I say? We butt heads."

"What is the drawing?" John asked.

"It is enochian symbols that roughly translate to..." She paused.

John smirked. "Full immunity."

"It translates to are you fucking kidding me." Kate said quickly. She blocked his hand from connecting with her leg. "Full immunity!"

John gave her the side eye. "You thought that was appropriate?" He wasn't actually angry. While he demanded respect from his kids, he did understand that they did get angry at times. They were human.

"I said it roughly translated." Kate said. "Dean's the one that chose the name that he did when he pulled that prank on me."

John answered a call from Sam and helped him with a small baby related problem. The call was short, and he turned his attention back to the road until Kate's eyes didn't leave the side of his face.

Kate waited for him to turn his head. "What is that look?"

John motioned for her to explain.

"You were telling him how to get flaky stuff out of his hair. You look... is that... is that a grandfatherly look?" Kate asked.

John faced the road again. "I am proud of him for not being one of the kids that continues to be a pain in my ass."

(Sunday)

Dean held a shelf above his head while Caleb put screws into the wall. He was slightly off balance due to Ian wrapping himself around his leg. "Taylor, come get this thing off of me. I don't want to step on him."

Andy giggled. "You can't call him that."

Dean reached down to ruffle Ian's hair. "I bet Taylor can throw you."

Ian let go of Dean's leg and ran to Taylor. Being thrown in the air was the best thing ever. He typically talked Dean or Caleb into it but then they started complaining that he was too heavy.

"Not over the powerlines, right?" Taylor asked.

April huffed. "You had better not throw him that high."

Taylor put Ian on his shoulders. "He seems tough enough." He corralled Andy and Riot out of the room as well. If he timed it right, Dean could take over the babysitting and he could go see Hailey.

April sat down in the rocking chair and watched the guys hang stuff on the wall. Lauren was moving around and doing flips. The nursery was coming along. She was still surprised that Lauren would have an actual nursery. She had a dresser with tiny outfits in it. Ian didn't have enough clothes to need a dresser until they got to Sioux Falls. Now, all three kids had more than enough. She ran her fingers over a knitted throw that was folded across the arm of the chair. Marie made it. She gasped and got up to look for a box that Karen sent with Dean and Taylor.

Caleb turned around when she returned. "What do you have?"

April grinned and handed it to him.

Caleb opened the box. He recognized flannel from a shirt that had gone missing. He pulled out the bit of cloth and turned it around to make sense of what it was.

"Karen made Lauren a gown from your favorite shirt that was worn out." April said.

Caleb was blank because he was honored but wasn't about to break down in tears.

Dean nudged him, knowing his friend was going through a few emotions. "You might want to ask her to sew in some buttons. That isn't going to fit over her head if she looks like you."

April smacked Dean's arm. "Isn't it precious, Caleb?"

Caleb nodded. He placed it in Lauren's crib and tilted his head. "There is no way she is sleeping in this thing at first. It is too big."

April smiled. "She can sleep in the bassinet in our room to begin with."

Dean turned his back to work on another shelf. Caleb needed a moment to share that experience with his wife. If he was being honest, the gown was kind of cute. He wondered what they did with the rest of the shirt because it was possible that the gown could have been cut from a sleeve. Were babies that small?

Taylor tossed Ian in the air a few times but found that Ian really liked to be spun in circles. He did that until Ian couldn't walk straight. He scooped him up and held him until the world stopped spinning and he was fairly certain the toddler wouldn't run into a wall. He tossed a stick for Riot and pushed Andy on the tire swing. He heard his name and spun around.

One of the other football players looked over the fence. "Hey, what are you doing out this way?"

Taylor held Ian upside down. "Keeping these guys out of the house so their parents can put together a nursery."

The other player, Micah, was an all-around good guy. He was a little shy, but Taylor approved of him.

Taylor spoke to Micah while the boys played.

"That is the baby the cheerleaders like isn't it." Micah said.

Taylor glanced at Ian. "Yeah."

Micah's face turned red, but he mumbled out part of a comment.

April startled when Taylor ran up the stairs.

"Can I take the boys to the park?" Taylor asked.

Caleb narrowed his eyes. "Why?"

Taylor held his hand over his chest. "I think they'd have fun."

Dean and Caleb traded looks.

Taylor sighed. "So, my friend, Micah is going."

Dean furrowed his eyebrows. "Why is he going to a park?"

"Well, not the park. He likes this girl that lives across the street and she is a cheerleader. She loves Ian." Taylor paused.

"You want to take my kids to the park to be wingmen for your friend?" Caleb asked. He shrugged. "Go for it."

April gasped. "Caleb!"

Caleb chuckled. "They'll have a blast. If the boy winds up impressing the girl, so be it." He spoke a little louder as Taylor was already on his way back down the stairs. "If either of them gets into any kind of trouble on your watch, your ass is grass too."

Taylor groaned and looked up the stairs. "Man, have you met your kids?"

Caleb just laughed and continued what he was working on.

Dean looked out the window. He shot Taylor a text telling him to keep his eyes on the kids and not on Hailey. He snorted when he got a reply back. "We should have thought of that when we were teenagers."

Caleb smirked and nodded toward April. "How do you think I got this one?"

April rubbed her stomach. "You did take up time with the boys."

"So did I," Dean said with a slight grin. "But now you're stuck with them. I just get to sugar them up and send them back home."

Caleb walked over to kiss April on the top of her head. "That just means I got incredibly lucky."

(Lee and Krissy)

Lee started driving after they got some sleep. Krissy was a little moody, but he reminded himself that she was five. He caught wind of a case and decided to check it out. He hated vampires. He lost Krissy's mom to the mutants. Any vamp case immediately caught his attention.

"Daddy, why do we gotta hunt?" Krissy whined.

"I hunt. You don't. I'm just going to read up on this." Lee said as he bought a local newspaper.

Krissy wanted to play. She wanted to run around. "Look, Daddy, there is a toy store."

Lee told her, "Not right now."

Krissy waited for what felt like forever. She saw some kids playing hopscotch outside and looked from Lee to the door. He was drinking coffee and reading. The window was big. She shrugged and went to play with the other kids. They were a lot of fun to play with. She played tag and tried to jump rope, but she wasn't very good at that. She could jump on one leg though, so hopscotch was easy. She tossed a small pebble and skipped to where it landed. She picked it up right as she heard her name in a loud tone. She dropped the small rock and ran to her dad. She sadly waved goodbye to her new friends and protested the brisk walk to the car.

"I couldn't find you. I thought something happened." Lee said.

Krissy tried to pull her arm away from him. "I was playin' outside, and you can see out the window."

Lee got her to the car and corrected the undesirable behavior. He reminded her why running off was bad and buckled her into her seat.

Krissy crossed her arms over her chest and pouted. She was mad. All she wanted to do was play and he wasn't even paying attention anyway.

Lee drove to a safer area and got gas. He got a call from Marie to check on Krissy and handed Krissy the phone while he paid for the gas.

Krissy perked up. She asked about the bunnies and other stuff but quickly dissolved into tears. She told Marie about getting into trouble and how mean her dad was.

Marie soothed her but told her that the ordeal was scary for her dad.

Krissy felt a tiny bit better and wasn't as prickly when Lee returned to the car.

Lee knew of a hunter's cabin not too far away, so he headed there. He had not heard a peep out of Krissy and could see that she was still angry.

Krissy held onto her small blanket and followed Lee into the cabin. It was cold. She sat down on the weird sofa and chewed on the edge of her blanket.

"We will stay here for a night or two." Lee said as he put stuff on the table. He finally got tired of the silence and faced Krissy. "You have to understand why I was so upset with you. You don't get to pout the entire night because I corrected you."

Krissy stood up and clinched her fists at her side. "Well, when I get in trouble with grandpa, he hugs me and tells me I'm not a bad kid and you didn't so there!" She found a small corner and sat with her back to the wall, covering herself with her blanket.

Lee sighed. He softened and sat down on the floor. "Grandpa?"

Krissy sniffled.

"They are very nice people. I'm sorry, Krissy. You aren't a bad kid. I don't want to lose you." Lee said.

Krissy crawled out of the corner and curled into his lap. "I love you daddy."

Lee sighed. "I love you too." He scooted back so that he could reach the fireplace and started preparing it for a fire. "Here, I'll make sure you are warm."

Krissy waited for the fire to kick up and moved closer.

Lee told her not to touch it.

Krissy nodded. "If you get burned, you have to go to the doctor and get tons of shots."

Lee smiled slightly. "Yeah, you do."

Krissy stayed far enough away that her papers wouldn't catch fire and doodled as Lee read the newspaper some more. She frowned when a crayon broke. "Can I get new colors?"

Lee looked up from the newspaper. "Yes. We will pick some up tomorrow."

(Sioux Falls)

Dean drove back to Bobby's house with Taylor. The double date went well for the boys. It was more of a babysitting gig, but Micah's girl was impressed. Dean didn't ask Taylor too many questions because he trusted him. He did ask a few just to bug him though.

Taylor left Dean in the car. He was starving after chasing Ian around. He smelled soup and licked his lips. "Hey, Karen, what can I help you with?"

Dean wiped a few specks of dust from baby's dashboard and jumped enough to knee the underside of the steering wheel when Kate showed up next to him. "Dear god, what now?"

Older Kate grinned. "I need your help."

Dean found himself outside of his car before he could react. "What the hell?"

Older Kate pushed a ball to the side with her foot. "Don't freak out. I need your thumb print to open something."

Dean was leery. "Why kidnap me from my time?"

Kate rolled her eyes. "You cut your thumb and the scar makes the lock no longer work."

Dean looked down at his thumbs. "You didn't heal me?"

Older Kate was exasperated. "You wouldn't let me. You sliced it open trying to remove King Arthur's sword from a stone."

Dean blinked rapidly. "Huh?"

Kate pulled Dean along with her into the shop and told him to wash his hands. She presented him with an odd-looking bowl and told him to press his thumb into it. "This will copy the print so that I don't have to find you every time."

Dean eyed it. "What is this for?"

"Think of it like a second bunker." Kate said.

Dean was too dazed to fight her. "King Arthur's sword, huh?" He chuckled. "What, do we run into some dragons to slay?" He didn't get a response from Kate and nudged her. "We do not run into dragons, right?"

Kate shrugged. "Time rules."

Dean pulled his hand back as soon as she let go of it. She obviously wasn't going to answer the right questions. He stepped out of the shop and felt a small weight wrap around his leg. He looked down, expecting to see Ian. That was not Ian.

Kate's eyes widened.

The kid let go of Dean's leg and held his arms up.

Kate nodded to tell Dean to play along.

Dean awkwardly picked him up. He looked into his eyes. "Who are you?"

The little boy giggled. "Jamie."

Dean nodded slowly. Was that his kid? No, he couldn't be. He looked from Kate to the kid and then back. "Who is your dad?"

The little boy laughed harder and wrapped his arms around Dean's neck. "You are silly!"

Kate told Jamie to run inside and get ready for dinner. She let out a breath when the door shut behind him.

Dean followed Kate. "Is that mine?"

Kate acted like she had no idea what Dean was talking about.

"Katelyn, is... who is his dad?" Dean asked.

Older Kate shrugged again. "Time rules."

Dean cursed loudly when he blinked and was back in his car in his own time. His phone rang and he answered it. It was Kim, his friend with benefits. He thought about the little boy. He was 3 or 4. There was no way that this one night would lead to his birth. He thought about telling Kim no. He couldn't though. He grabbed a few things from his room. He needed protection. He stopped and returned to his nightstand. He fumbled around and found an expiration date on a wrapper. He always thought the expiration date was stupid, but he was going to double check.

(Back in Older Kate's time)

John quickly made his way to Kate as soon as she walked through the door. "Jamie said Dean was acting weird. Is everything okay?"

Kate rubbed her face. "Forgive Dean for being a little confused, I just borrowed him from 2002."

John's face changed. "And you thought it was a good idea to introduce him to Jamie?"

Kate groaned. She spoke a little louder. "No, somebody," She paused for effect, "Didn't stay in the house like I told him to." The loud gasp and subsequent footfalls above their head told her that her nephew needed to work on his eavesdropping skills.

John and Kate walked outside to continue the conversation and were later met outside by a bashful Jamie.

"If an adult says to stay inside, you stay inside." John said.

Jamie looked at his toes. "I forgot." He saw his mom and ran to her.

John gave her the kid friendly version of what happened.

Jess kissed the boy on the cheek. "Oh, Jamie. You know Uncle Dean always acts a little weird."

Jamie giggled. That was true. Uncle Dean was very silly and that was why he was the best.
