It was a Sunday. So I had the afternoon to myself, which was just me watching over Laura as she trained. It was easy to watch over her from my posistion, being in the forest while she trained out in the yard with Logan. A Father and his Daughter. He taught her new combative ways to use her claws, and she showed him what she knew and improved on it.
This was what I did, every single day. I gave my word that I would watch over Laura until she died, or until I died. Looking over to the window, I saw Scott walking with Jean, talking to one another about how a test was coming up and he needed help studying. I could hear word for word on what they were saying.
Looking at Laura, my mind started to wonder. Her powers were that of Logans, except the claw placements. Could she die? She had a healing factor, just like Logan. I didnt want to make either of them mad as they entered a berserker rage, something I had seen before and stopped with Laura. Like Daughter like Father.
"What's with the long face?" Kurt said as he teleported over to me, sticking to the tree beside me. Kurt was an interesting one, the demon but mutant. He would have the hardest time blending in if it wasnt for his watch.
"Nothing that concerns you, Blue's Clues." I said, throwing a quick punch his way, stopping before I hit him. That was my nickname for him, as he was always curious about being me being a vampire, how I became one, exc. He as a good kid.
"You know, it is a bit strange that you share the same room as Laura." Kurt said, with me looking at him as he said that. "You never sleep, you're always watching over her." He added, with me nodding.
"That's because I gave my word, and I will stick to it to the day that one of us dies." I answered as I turned to look back at Laura as she had gotten back up to continue training. It was true, what Kurt said. I shared a room with her, with me only having clothes in the room, nothing else. Everything in the room belonged to Laura, I didnt requier anything.
"I hear you." Kurt said with a wink. "You have the hots for Laura!" He proclaimed, with me looking at him as he spoke.
"Im stuck at eighteen, she is fourteen." I countered, looking bat at Laura as she jumped at Logan, only to get tossed over by him.
"I could tell her for you~" Kurt replied, words laced with amusement. "Wouldn't take long either, I can just teleport over there." He said, with me looking at him.
Shaking my head, I punched the tree he was on. "And now, I'm leaving." I said, with the tree he was on tipping over, where he telported away.
"See you in the morning!" He called out from another tree before teleporting away.
"Right." I said as I rolled my eyes and walked over to Laura, who was sitting on the ground while Logan walked towards the mansion as their training was over. Turning to look at me, she stood up and dusted herself off. Romance was something I enjoyed reading back when I was... Human, but most of all... was something that I could never have. Shaking my thoughts, I walked with her back to the mansion.
The next day, school
Duncan was a royal prick, more so for insulting the oversized teen instead of helping. Tossing the relatively smaller teen away, Fred, the Blob, gave into his anger, ripping a series of lockers from the wall. When he ripped the lockers from the walls, I knew this was going to get ugly.
"Don't you... make fun... OF ME!" The Blob yelled, the lockers hoisted, and slightly crushed, about to use them to hammer Duncan Matthews into the floor. I grabbed Laura, stopping her from running in. Seeing ehr turn towards me, I looked her in the eyes as shook my head, where I turned and pointed at Jean, who walked up to them.
"Hi, uh, you must be new here." Jean said, where Fred then turned around to see who had spoken. "I'm Jean Grey." She introduced politely, looking at him with a smile. I narrowed my eyes at her as I heard Freds heard skip a beat as few times, something I have heard with Scott as he had feeling for her. This just went from bad to worse.
Fred look like he was embarrassed at being caught. "Hehe, oh, yeah. I am." He said, where Duncan, taking advantage of this distraction, slipped away, leaving his so called "girlfriend" behind. "New, I mean." He added as he lowered the lockers.
Jean laughed, just a bit. "I figured. Welcome to Bayville. So, what do your friends call you?" Jean asked, with me crossing my arms as she was just adding fule to the fire.
Dropping the lockers back where he'd ripped them from, in albeit less than prime condition. "Don't know." He answered back in confusion. "Never had any. My name is Fred. Fred Dukes." He offered, shaking her vastly smaller hand. He winced as the lockers he'd mangled creaked.
"Well, Fred, I'd just like to apologize for Duncan. He can be a real idiot sometimes." Jean said as she looked in the direction that Duncan had ran. Spotting the paper on the ground, she bent and retrieved it. "Hey, did you need any help figuring this out?" She asked as she overlooked it.
"Well, yes, uh, please." Fred said as Jean lead him to his classroom.
"Love is in the air." I said, where Laura looked at me and then back at the two of them.
"I don't see it." Laura said as she crossed her arms as well, watching them leave.
"One sided it may be, desasterious results will come of it." I said as I turned around and started going to my next class, having needed to split up from Laura.
Later, lunch
"I still don't understand what the problem is." Laura said as she looked towards Fred as he stood in line. "What is it that I'm missing?" She asked, playing with her food. "There has to be something that you are seeing that I'm not." She said as she looked at me.
"What do you think it is?" I asked, looking at Fred as she tried to figure out what I was talking about.
"The look?" She asked, not sure in her answer.
"Well, you're close." I said as she looked back at me as I said that.
"What do you mean, close?" Laura said, with me smiling at that.
"Its the way Fred looks at Jean, as well as one other major part that told me that he likes her." I explained, not wanting to give up what I was talking about.
"What is it?" Laura asked as she crossed her arms, making me smile.
"No, I wont tell, then this game wouldnt be fun." I said, looking at her, watching as she was fuming at not knowing.
"I'll see you later, I have to go to McFarlin's class and its on the other side of the building." She said, walking away with her tray, where she threw the entire thing away. Watching her leave, I couldnt help but laugh.
Later
Walking around the school, we saw Rogue and Scott together, which was weird. Walking over to them, we caught on to there talk and stopped to listen. "Do you like me, Kate?" Scott said, with me nearly throwing up, with Laura raising an eyebrow at this.
"Pardone moi? I cannot tell. What is "like me"?" Rogue said, not really into it, with me agreeing as it was terrible.
"An angel is like you, Kate. And you are like an angel."
Rogue let a small, amused smile cross her lips. "Hehe. The girls 're right. You are a charmer."
Scott was a little embarrassed. "Look, I'm just reading the lines, okay."
She brushed a lock of hair out of her eyes. "Yeah, I know. It's just sometimes I wish-"
"Yeah? Wish what?"
"Wish... I could get close to somebody." She explained weakly, and I could feel her pain, hearing her heart cramp up when she said that. "But you know what happens when I do." She said, with me feeling sorry for her.
"Bamf!"
Everyone jerked at the incoming teleportation, Kurt appearing on the tabletop before them as his normal self. "Whoa, tender moment here? Sorry to interrupt." Kurt said, looking at them, then us as we walked over to join them as this had to be serious.
"I swear. He's like an annoying little brother." Rogue huffed, earning a look of hurt bafflement from Kurt. His response was to stick his tongue out at her, while I just shook my head at his actions.
Scott knew that for him to come for him was a sign of an emergency, but without his image inducer meant something big was going on. "What's the problem?"
"Jean's been nabbed." Kurt informed, with me nodding as I saw this coming. Scott's hands shot to grab Kurt by the shoulders, not gentile either. "Wow! Easy on the exquisite costume, mein freund! Wolverine's on the scent, but I'm supposed to collect you three!" Kurt said as he and finally managed to persuade the distraught teen to let go of him.
"Rrggh!" He slammed his fists down onto the picnic table. "Blob... If he's hurt her I'll-" He looked across to Rogue who seemed to do her best to not show she was even there. "Do you know anything about this?" He asked desperately, but still angry, where I stepped infront of him.
"Leave her alone." I said, loking him in the eyes as Laura looked at with with a raised eyebrow. "She had nothing to do with this, this all started between Jean and Fred earlier this morning." I informed, confusing them.
"Right." Laura said as she remembered what I had said earlier. "We have to find Blob." She said, where everyone looked at her. "We will meet you there, we can follow their scent." She informed, where they nodded.
"Right." Scott shot coolly, managing to reign in his anger. He then placed his hand on Kurt's shoulder. "Teleporter to maximum, Mister Wagner!"
Catching his drift, Kurt saluted. "Aye, captain!"
"Engage!"
"Bamf!"
They were gone, leaving Rogue with us. "Why are you two still here?" She asked, looking at us.
"Were leaving, but wouldnt mind the company." I said, turning around to walk away. "You aren't like the others." I told as Laura started following me.
Later
We had immediately been drawn to the wrecked bit of construction towards the back of the school. "They were both here." I said, where Laura started sniffing around and followed the smell.
"Lets hope she knows where it goes." Logan muttered as he walked over to us and started following Laura as well.
Later, old iron works
"We've found them. At the old iron works on the south end. I'm going in." Logan told the others as he turned to us. You two, focus on stealth. "Get in there and get her out!" Logan said, with me nodding as I followed behind Laura.
Reaching the building, I jumped ontop of it while Laura used her claws to climb up. Once she reached the top, I helped her up and we made our way over to the window above. Watching as he made his way out of the office room, where I could see something glowing from the inside of the office.
Candles.
"The big guy had kidnapped Jean and made it into a date." Laura said, rolling her eyes. The door, slashed repeatedly, burst open, Wolverine barreling through, snarling. Immediately jumping on the teen behemoth, he started laying into him. Annoyed and bewildered by this, Fred threw the enraged attacker off him. Now! Laura said as she slipped through the window and landed on the machinary below and made her way towards the office.
Wolverine snarled back before charging. In a move of surprising swiftness for someone his size, Fred dodged the incoming attack. Grabbing the nearest heavy object, an old, rather heavy, turbine, he ripped it free of the floor and threw it at Wolverine, but there was little the adamantium bearer could do against such mass.
Jumping through the window, I landed at the door to the office with Laura reaching it at the same time. Hearing the ruckus, Jean struggled against her bonds. Struggling, Jean focused her power, trying to bend the pipe wrapped around her. It bent…just a little. It was just too thick. Not that her still splitting headache didn't make it difficult. The pipe was actually starting to break, but her already low energy was fading from the exertion. "Need a hand?" I asked as we rushed over to her.
She looked and saw me, shocked. "Dakota, Laura."
"Quiet, Wolverine is distracting Blob." I told her as Laura slashed at the pipe, breaking her free. "While Freddy Kruger keeps "Romeo" busy, we make our escape!" I said as we pulled her to her feet.
Hearing the door open, I grabbed a fieling cabnet and tossed it at Fred with one hand. He raised it over him so he could openly glare at his "date" and beside her… Was both Laura and I. "Nobody respects me!" He declared angerly. "And you're the worst! Rrr, you pretended to be my friend!" He yelled at us, not that Jean was too hurt by his outburst at this point.
He then threw the file cabinet back at us. Jean stopped it, but I could see she had a rough time of it. So we stepped in. Running up to Blob, Laura jumped up and kicked him inthe face, where I punched him in the gut, sending him flying back a good bit. "You don't want this fight, boy." I said as we stood side by side, watching as Blob got back up.
Furious, but no longer in the mood for a fight, Blob retreated, seething all the way. For ten feet anyway. Then he grabbed a heavy machine and hefted it before turning back to the shabby office, making me frown at this. A red energy beam splashing over his back made him drop the hunk of machine. Shoving it in the direction of the attack in retaliation, it shot past Rogue, her eyes glowing red.
"Leave them alone, ya yahoo!"
"Watcha gonna do ta me? Make me wear bad makeup?" He countered scathingly. Rogue just smirked back. He made the mistake of underestimating her.
"Didn't Mystique tell you what my power is?" She asked, walking toward him.
"No. 'Cause I don't care." He said as he threw a punch, followed by others in attempts of pummeling her. He made a mistake though in letting her get so close. She grabbed his arm. He winced at the draining sensation.
"MY power is YOUR power, and I can take more than one!" She retorted, before using her newfound strength to judo flip him into the rafters, followed by an optic blast which carried him farther and into a pile of machine parts and rubbish.
Bursting most of the way free, he looked pissed. "I got too much power, even for you! You can't hurt me! I'M THE BLOB!"
"Nah, yer just garbage that wanted a date. Now tell you what: I'm takin' you out!" Rogue yelled, with me crossing my arms as this was interesting.
Blob jumped at Rogue, but she was ready. She caught him full on with an optic blast. At first, he seemed to float there, before being launched back, through the roof and away.
Later
"There you go." I heard Rogue as Laura and I leaned against the wall, watching her slip Scotts glasses back on. "I only took a short term dose of your power. You should be back to normal soon." She said apologedicly.
"You are like an angel, Kate." Whether it was because he was delirious, or a show of friendship, I couldn't tell.
"My name's not Kate." Rogue objected while shaking her head. "And I'm no angel." She added, looking away from him.
"But you helped us." Jean added, standing next to Laura and I. "Why?" She asked in confusion, but I knew why, I had said it earlier.
"I don't know... I just don't know!" Rouge shouted as she ran off.
"You ok?" Jean's asked, looking at us.
"Dont worry about us. You were the one who was kiddnaped." I said, walking over to Scott and helping him to his feet while Laura helped Logan.
