New Friends
Three months later:
It was shortly after sunrise in Lincoln's dorm room. Lincoln's Rotom Phone, which he got from Mr. Jacq a while back, flew off his desk and floated around Lincoln. Once the clock on it said 7:00 AM, it made a buzzing noise, waking Lincoln up. Once he opened his eyes, he climbed out of his bed and started stretching his body.
"Man, that was a good night sleep I got." said Lincoln. Once he was done stretching, he went into his bathroom and got ready to take a shower. While he was showering, he looked back at his days in the Paldea Region after he first arrived and started attending the Naranja Academy. "It's amazing how quickly life can change. One minute I'm wandering the streets of my hometown wearing only a pair of pajamas because my own family threw me out because of Lynn's dumb superstitious belief; next thing I know, I win a scholarship to an academy in a land I've never heard of and learning about creatures I never would've believed existed." Lincoln showered for five minutes before turning off the water and stepping out of the shower to dry himself off. "It's nice to take a shower without people banging on the door, telling me to hurry up." After he was done drying off, he puts on his academy uniform, also making sure he has the keycard to his dorm room on him, so he doesn't get locked out; he brushed his teeth, grabbed his backpack, and stepped out into the academy hallway. He walked down the hallway for a few minutes before he reached the cafeteria where he saw a few students were already there, eating. He enters it and walks up to the kitchen area. One of the people that were in there, dressed in a chef's uniform greeted him with a smile.
"Hello, Lincoln. What would you like for breakfast today?" asked the chef. Lincoln thought for a few seconds about what he wanted.
"Could I have some pancakes with maple syrup, a side of sausage links, some toast with grape jelly, and a glass of orange juice, please?" Lincoln requested.
"I'll have it ready in a jiffy." said the chef as he got started on Lincoln's order. Lincoln sat down at a table and took a notebook out of his backpack and started looking at the notes he wrote in it yesterday. Lincoln put a lot of focus into his studies during his time at the Naranja Academy, so he didn't feel like he was far behind everyone else. He's learned so much about Pokemon; such as the many different species and types of Pokemon there are, abilities, evolutions and methods for evolution, attacks, items, caring for them, etc. They also did more than learn about Pokemon; trainers have to be in fit condition since they do a lot of travelling across the region and sometimes have to chase after Pokemon that try to evade them, so they did some light cardio exercises, as well as work on their pokeball throwing accuracy. He did more than just all that stuff; he took the time to hang out with the friends he's made at the academy.
"Morning, Lincoln." said a girl who just walked in. The girl was one of the first friends that Lincoln made at Naranja Academy. Her name is Nemona. She's a girl with tan skin, black hair with a ponytail and a streak of green hair in the front of her head. She wore an academy uniform like Lincoln, except she wore shorts instead of pants. She also wore black leggings, red and white sneakers, and a black and red wrist glove on her right hand. She has a sunny and energetic disposition and definitely has the potential to be a strong trainer.
"Hi, Nemona." replied Lincoln. He looks at you. "That's Nemona, one of my new friends here at the academy. Don't get me wrong, Clyde will always be my best friend."
"What are you up to?" asked Nemona.
"Just reviewing some notes while I'm waiting for breakfast." said Lincoln.
"Mind if I join you?" asked Nemona.
"Not at all." said Lincoln. Nemona sat down next to Lincoln and looked over at his notebook.
"What are you studying?" asked Nemona.
"Pokemon Abilities. We got a quiz about them today and I want to be sure I'm ready." said Lincoln.
"Oh, man. That's today!?" asked Nemona with disbelief.
"Yeah. Did you forget?" asked Lincoln.
"I was so focused on practicing my pokeball throws yesterday it must've slipped my mind." said Nemona.
"Would you like to look over my notes?" Lincoln offered.
"Please." said Nemona. Lincoln slid his notebook closer to Nemona so she could get a better look at what was on it. A few minutes later, Lincoln's breakfast was ready. Lincoln let Nemona look over his notebook while he got his breakfast and started eating.
"Hey, Lincoln. Hey, Nemona." a voice called out. Lincoln and Nemona looked over at the cafeteria entrance and saw another of Lincoln's new friends.
"Hey, Arven." said Lincoln and Nemona. Arven is an upperclassman at the Naranja Academy. He is an older male with long blonde hair. He wore a white dress shirt, a blue sleeveless vest with the academy insignia on it, orange pants, brown boots, and a yellow backpack. He's a good cook and he's always studying new recipes that can help Pokemon feel better. Arven walks over to where Lincoln and Nemona were sitting and sits across from them.
"What are you two up to?" asked Arven.
"Going over notes for today's Ability quiz." said Lincoln. Arven notices Lincoln's pancakes.
"Hey, Lincoln. Try putting some Pecha Berry juice on those. They'll taste a lot sweeter that way." said Arven as he pulls a Pecha Berry out of his backpack and squeezes juices from it onto Lincoln's pancakes. Lincoln cuts a small part of the pancake and eats it. His eyes widen with surprise.
"Wow! That IS good. Thanks, Arven." said Lincoln as he continued eating the pancakes.
"You're welcome. Also, there's plenty of nutrients in Pecha Berries so not only does it taste good, it's also good for you." said Arven. While they were studying and eating, another girl walks in and slowly walks over to where they were sitting.
"H-H-Hi, everyone." the girl said. Lincoln and the others look over at the girl.
"Hi, Penny." said Lincoln to the girl now identified as Penny. Penny is a very shy girl who has a habit of not showing up for classes sometimes. She has short red and blue hair, she wears a black hoodie with a pokeball design on it, a transparent skirt over gray shorts, long gray leggings with red plus and blue minus symbols on them, black and gray boots, round glasses and carries an Eevee-style bag with her.
"C-Can I sit with you?" asked Penny.
"Sure. Have a seat." replied Lincoln. Penny sits down at the table a little far from them.
"So... what are you guys doing?" asked Penny.
"Oh, we we're getting ready for the Ability quiz today." replied Lincoln.
"There's a quiz today? I must've missed that class." replied Penny.
"You tend to miss a lot of classes, Penny." said Nemona.
"Wanna study with us?" asked Lincoln.
"Sure." said Penny. As they studied and ate, they talked about something they heard about recently.
"I heard that Mr Clavell is making some sort of announcement today." said Nemona.
"Yeah, I heard about that also." said Lincoln.
"What do you think Mr Clavell wants to talk about?" asked Arven.
"Maybe there's a big assignment coming up and he wants to tell us about it." replied Lincoln.
"Could be. We'll just have to wait and see." said Nemona. Just then, four boys, who were more of Lincoln's new friends came into the cafeteria.
"Hey, guys." said one of the boys.
"Hey, Stan." Lincoln replied. The four boys who walked into the cafeteria were from America like Lincoln. Their names are Stan Marsh, Kyle Broflovski, Eric Cartman (who everyone just called Cartman), and Kenny McCormick. (Authors Note: Yes, that Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny.) All four were about the same age as Lincoln, Stan had black hair, Kyle had red hair, Kenny had blond hair, and Cartman had brown hair, and they were wearing uniforms identical to Lincoln's. When Lincoln first met them, he was surprised that there were other boys from America like him. He learned that they moved to Paldea after their moms divorced their dads for 'understandable reasons'. (Authors Note: If you want to know why they did, read Chapter One of our "Pokemon are Kewl" fanfic. Mind you that it's rated T for teen.) And Lincoln thought that his dad made a stupid choice when he threw him out onto the streets with just the clothes on his back, which was a pair of pajamas at the time. When the boys heard about what his family did to him, they thought his family were a bunch of (Whoops. Can't say that word. This is a rated K fanfic.) for what they did to him, but Lincoln informed them that one of his family members is an infant and should get a pass, which Stan and his friends agreed to.
"So what are you up to, dudes?" asked Kyle.
"We're doing some last-minute studying for today's Abilities quiz." said Lincoln.
"Oh. I guess it would be a good idea to be ready for that. Mind if we all join you?" asked Stan.
"We don't mind." said Lincoln. Stan and his friends sat down and pulled out their notebooks from their backpacks.
"We were also wondering what Mr. Clavell's big announcement today is." said Nemona.
"We heard about that too." said Stan.
"What do you think it's about?" asked Kenny.
"I don't know." said Lincoln.
"Maybe he's giving us our first Pokemon." suggested Kyle.
"Oh, man. That would be so cool if we got Pokemon." said Cartman.
"Yeah, that would be so awesome." said Stan. They studied and talked for a while longer before Lincoln's Rotom Phone went off.
"Gotta wrap this up, guys; class starts in ten minutes." said Lincoln.
"Thanks for the heads up, Lincoln." said Nemona as she gave Lincoln back his notebook. They all packed up their notebooks and left the cafeteria and started heading off to their first classes. As Lincoln and the others walked down the hall, Lincoln can't help but think about how hanging out with his new friends kind of reminded him of hanging out with his friends back in Royal Woods. He often thought about them in his time in Paldea and wondered if they missed him like he missed them. He thought about his family also, even after how they treated him, and wondered if they even missed him or even cared how he was doing, despite the fact that they most likely didn't know he was there. He sometimes wondered if he should at least call them or his best friend, Clyde with his Rotom Phone and tell either of them where he was and what he was up to. He planned on calling them someday when he was ready, but until then he had his studies to focus on. They soon arrived at Mr Jacq's classroom door.
"Well, it's been an awesome three months here in Paldea; but I have a feeling that things are going to get more interesting soon." Lincoln says to you. His friends looked at him with confused looks on their faces.
"Lincoln? Who are you talking to?" asked Stan.
"Sorry. It's just something I tend to do sometimes. Just ignore it." said Lincoln. His friends let the subject slide and they enter the classroom.
End of Chapter 4
Authors Note: The information we got on Nemona, Arven, and Penny are from the Pokemon Wikia. If the information is updated in the future, we'll edit this chapter. And yes, our South Park/Pokemon fanfic "Pokemon are Kewl" coincides with this one. We'll most likely throw in our "Ed-ventures in Paldea" fanfic in the future as well when we feel the time is right and we figure out how to do that. As of today, 10/16/22, there are 33 days left until Pokemon: Scarlet and Violet come out and we hope to get our hands on copies of them as soon as we can and get into them and update our Paldea fanfics.
