CHAPTER 4: PLEASANTRIES

"So what's your name?" That was what Charlie Brown asked this girl who invited him for sundaes. She seemed nice and definitely pretty.

"My name is Samantha, or Sam for short," the girl replied.

"My name is Charlie Brown."

"Nice to meet you, Charlie."

"So, what made you invite me for a sundae?"

"You seemed like a nice person. And I never seen you here before. You're new around here, aren't you?"

"Well, my friend and I are here visiting my grandparents, who have a beach house here. My dog is here, as well."

"What kind of dog do you have?"

"He's a beagle. He's kind of different from most dogs, as you will see later. His name is Snoopy."

"That's a cute name." Linus, Snoopy, and Woodstock joined them, as they were taking a break from the contest.

"Sam, this is my best friend Linus, who I told you about," Charlie Brown said. "And this is Snoopy and his friend Woodstock. Guys, this is Samantha, or Sam for short."

"Nice to meet you, Sam," said Linus, shaking her hand.

"You too, Linus," said Sam. "And nice to meet you too, Snoopy." Snoopy immediately gave Sam a kiss on her hand. Turning to Charlie Brown, she said, "I see what you were talking about now, Charlie."

"That's just the tip of the iceberg with Snoopy, Sam," said Charlie Brown.

"So, how long are you all here at Virginia Beach?" Sam asked.

"We're here for the entire summer," said Charlie Brown.

"Is there any events coming up?" asked Linus.

"Well, there's a fair coming up next week," Sam replied. "You guys should come. Especially you, Charlie. I can't wait to introduce you to my brothers." It was obvious that Sam had taken a liking to Charlie Brown and he also took notice of it, smiling from ear to ear.

"We'll be there, Sam," said Charlie Brown.

"Great!" said a smiling Sam. She grabbed a napkin and wrote something down. "Here's my number, Charlie. You can call me there. I better look for my brothers. I'll see you guys later." And she left, but looked back at Charlie Brown and smiled and winked at him. Charlie Brown immediately blushed.

"I think Sam likes me, Linus," he said, smiling.

"There's no doubt about it, Charlie Brown," Linus agreed. "I told you that you'd make new friends here, and you started with Sam there."

"She's very pretty, too," sighed Charlie Brown. Snoopy chuckled a bit, but was happy about Charlie Brown having someone like him for him. The boys headed back towards the beach so Linus and Snoopy could finish their sandcastles.
