Chapter 5: Cecilia Nolene I

Date: January 31st

Time: 9:00

In another area of the Kanto region, north of Mt. Silver and just northwest of Mt. Moon, sat a kingdom unchanged and untouched by time and human advancement. The Tree of Beginning can be seen in a mountain range north of Pewter City and Mt Moon.

The Kingdom of Rota was as bustling as it always was in the midmorning hours, women going to and fro from various shops buying anything from bread, meat, fish and fresh fruits and vegetables, to jewelry, cloth and sewing threads and more. The shops had just about everything one could ever want, including parchment paper, pens and ink as well as toys and dolls, human ones and a few pokémon themed ones.

One of the things that separated this medieval town from other non-advanced towns was the Cameran castle that housed the royal family and was connected to the city by a long bridge that would then stretch past the castle grounds to connect to the forest behind and around it. The other things that separated this lively town from others were the number of men, women and children dressed in traditional aura guardian garb, and were accompanied by a lucario but the children were accompanied by a riolu.

The Tree of Beginning, which is actually a giant rock formation rather than its namesake, is located beyond the forest on the other side of the Cameran Palace, in the mountains beyond Pewter and Mt Moon. The 'Tree' is thriving well from the constant routine care and offerings of aura from the Aura Guardians. It's a dangerous job and as such there was always a group of three to five guardians and their Lucario sent to renew the Tree's aura every month and to make sure it's aura is stable, to keep it from seeing them as hostile and seeking to make them a snack.

The Nolene's are the royal family and the rulers of the Kingdom of Rota, it's their job to remain in good standing with not only their subjects in their kingdom but also to hold negotiations with other leaders and reputable people of high standings in the lands outside their own. It's with their permission that allows outsiders to come into their kingdom in the first place.

Back in the west wing of the Cameran Palace, the Crown Princess was already awake and dressed in her room, a rather usual occurrence for the young lady, who often slept early, only to wake early. When her head maid knocked on the door twice before entering, the words tumbling from her mouth out of habit, "Princess Cecilia, Cyrus, it is time to wake up."

The princess' room was as grand as one would expect. The ash wood furniture with its polished silver knobs and elegant handles were all pushed back against the walls in all corners of the room. Delicate lavender curtains with dangling silver ties remained firmly over the windows but were light enough to let in the sunlight, making the room naturally bright even without the curtains being drawn back. The double doors that lead out to the balcony are firmly shut and locked and are also covered by the same curtains that cover all the windows within her room. Her bed was already made, the deep lavender comforter was pulled up practically concealing the pale lavender pillowcases that were the same color as her sheets, the comforter and sheets accented the ash wood bedpost. A massive royal purple carpet covered the entire stone floor of the room. Somewhere to the right of her bed was a bookshelf lined with books, that was pushed to one side with a comfortable fireproof charmeleon sized chair and a larger human-sized comfy chair sitting off to the side. She even has a fireplace in her room, but it is only used in the colder months, it also has a plush fireproof pokémon bed in front of it. Connected to her room were a large walk-in closet and a master bathroom.

"We're awake, thank you, Gloria." Cecilia replied as she sat at her ash wood and silver accented vanity running a brush through her hair.

"Good, you might not have anything planned for today, other than breakfast with his Majesty, Princess." Gloria replied, as she stepped behind the young girl and accepted the brush handed over, as she took over the task.

"Alright," she mumbled tiredly as she was trying to not let herself doze off as the maid started to brush her hair. It felt nice to be taken care of and it was almost enough to lull her into slumber. "I think I'll ask Kasei if he wouldn't mind some company today. We'll probably head into the forest, it's his favorite training spot."

"Excellent, Princess. I'm sure he'd be delighted with your company." With her hair brushed, the maid began styling her hair for the day, pulling it gently up into a high ponytail.

"Has breakfast been prepared?" Cecilia asked, glancing at Cyrus without turning her head away from the mirror. The charmeleon was pulling back the curtains to let in the sunlight.

"Yes, it'll be served as soon as you and Cyrus arrive at the dining hall. Don't dally my dear, your father's expecting you." Gloria reminded her, handing the brush to her charge and moving back away from the young woman and headed over to help Cyrus with the curtains.

"Thanks, Gloria." Cecilia said with a bright smile as she put the brush away. Glancing at herself in her mirror for a moment as she stared at her reflection, into the doe-like violet eyes and dark-silver hair that was pulled into a ponytail, the natural lilac highlights in her hair were accented by the updo. She was wearing a lavender silk tunic with black pants and brown boots.

Cecilia knew it wasn't her usual attire that consists of elaborate dresses and fancy outfits but that was fine, especially since her plans were to go into the forest whether Kasei came with her or not. Cyrus was adequate protection, and he would keep her safe from any lurking dangers.

"You're welcome, Princess." Gloria moved to make the Princess' bed.

"Come Cyrus, let's get breakfast with father and then we'll go search for Kasei and Kurena."

Upon being called the charmeleon walked over to Cecilia who was standing at the doorway, the two left and Cecilia left the door open behind her. There was no need to close it when Gloria was still busy inside.

Cecilia and Cyrus entered the elaborately decorated hallway, stepping out onto the royal purple and silver trimmed rug that stretched from one end of the hallway to the other. The windows on the left side of the wall weren't open but the royal purple curtains were all drawn and tied with silver tassels to let in the morning light, letting one see where they were walking without the need for the lighting of the torches and there were no glowing crystals inside the palace as those were only scattered around the balconies and the grounds of the castle, as well as naturally decorated the outside of the castle walls. The light cut through the shadows, making them less heavy and letting one see where they were walking despite the gaps between the windows and the sunlight.

Cecilia walked through the deserted hallway, leaving the west wing of the palace and stepping into the main part of the castle, the colors starkly changing from royal purples and silvers to royal greens and bronzes, there was even a smaller wing on the first floor for guests who got permission to stay at the castle. The castle was like this on purpose, it had various colors for each type of person that stayed there, including wings for the guards, the palace staff and the royal aura guardians. The north wing of the palace is where her father's chambers were, his colors were royal reds and golds. The north-east wing of the palace where the former queen stayed were the colors of royal pinks and golds. The south wing was for the maids, chefs, groundskeepers, stable hands, etc which were done in colors of white and black, the royal guards had the west wing are the colors of yellow and bronze, and finally the royal aura guardians had the northeast wing were the colors of royal blues, blacks and silvers.

The princess and her charmeleon hurried down the steps of the grand staircase and took a right at the doorway that would lead the kitchens and entered the dining room not wanting to keep her father waiting too much longer. You know it's improper to be late, Cecilia. She could already hear her father scolding her for her tardiness.

She slipped into her chair across beside him, to the right of the head of the table. The seat on his left was reserved for the Queen, her mother. Out of the corner of her eye she saw Cyrus walking over to his tray of food, sitting at a smaller table with her mother's espeon and her father's talonflame and escavalier.

She felt his disapproving maghanoy gaze as he tracked her movements. She forced herself to look up at him, squaring her shoulders because shrinking back in her seat was a sign of weakness. "I'm sorry for being late, father."

Francis Nolene was an imposing figure with his neatly trimmed dark brown hair and mahogany eyes. His 5'11 height wasn't much but the power and authority he radiated made even those taller than him feel like he was looking down his nose at them, deeming them infinor commoners to a regal king like him. His clothes were fit for a king and were in colors of mahogany red and dark brown with gold accents. Eventually he nodded his head, "See that it doesn't happen again."

"I will father." Cecilia promised.

The silence lasted for only a few minutes as it was broken by the servants who entered the room, carrying dishes and a tray cart with them. Within seconds breakfast was placed before her and her father, and their pokémon at their own table.

Her father only started speaking after the last servant left the dining room. "What are your plans for today?" he inquired as he picked up his cutlery and started to cut up his pancakes.

Cecilia picked up her own fork and knife and set to cut up her breakfast into sizable bites. "I was going to see Kasei and see if he had any duties to fulfill today. If he doesn't, I was going to ask if he could battle me so that Cyrus can get stronger."

"And if he does have duties to attend to?"

"If he does, I was going to come back to the castle and start on my own duties, as limited as they are for today."

"Good choice."

The royal king and princess started eating thanks to the lull in conversation. However, the silence was not to last as it was broken by King Francis himself after he had finished and noticed that his daughter wasn't reaching for any more food to move to her empty plate.

"How do you feel about our open borders?"

The kingdom had been on lockdown for so long, no one was allowed to leave the kingdom for any reason, it was for their own safety that they remain in the kingdom. Outsiders were forbidden from entering the Kingdom of Rota nor the lands that border it. Illegally entering the kingdom was punishable by imprisonment or death.

"I think it's a good idea, father. However, not many outsiders come to our kingdom unless they are researchers who come on Professor Akhi's behalf. I think the outsiders see no need to go through all that effort to get permission to come here."

"I have it that way on purpose, Cecilia. We need to make sure what happened in the past doesn't happen again. Our kingdom isn't vulnerable anymore, but I won't take reckless chances." His hand clenched around the handle of his knife.

"Is that why you've been learning how to wield a sword in your spare time, father?"

"I know that our pokémon can't always protect us. We need to learn to protect ourselves. Unlike our Aura Guardians we as royalty were not blessed with the ability to wield aura."

"I know, father."

"I want you to learn how to wield a weapon of your choice. I will not allow us to be taken advantage of any longer."

"Y-Yes father. I will visit the royal armory today. May I tell Kasei about this?"

"You may."

"May I bring him with me while I pick one out? He may be able to help pick a weapon that will suit me."

"He may come but the captain of the royal guard will be the one who sees which weapons are best suited for you and will give you a selection to choose from."

"Thank you, father. We shall not be late to the armory."

"See that you are not. The captain will be expecting you mid-afternoon."

Author's note: I hope you guys liked this small character introduction, it probably wasn't what many of you were expecting was it, especially the conversation at the end? I hope ChillyIce enjoyed this chapter. I hope I got Cecilia's personality right? I couldn't really show off her snootiness in this chapter, but it will show up in the capture arc and the recovery arc that's for sure. It might show in the next chapter that I have planned for her, but we will see where that one takes us.

I really am sorry for the lack of good description in this chapter. It was really hard to figure out how to describe the interior layout of a castle, much less decorate it. I have much more fun with the futuristic settings of the towns and cities and external and interior design of the laboratory than I do trying to describe something like this. If you want to know what the castle looks like just try and find images of Carmen Palace and images for the Kingdom of Rota, both of which show up in the movie, Lucario and the Mystery of mew.
