It was the day of Brooke and Nathan's birthday. Every year since they have moved to Tree Hill, the would do food and cake at their house with their closest friends and then move the party to the beach house. As the kids got older, the adults started to not attend the beach house parties. Lucas heard a knock at his door and looked at the clock. 10:55. He had slept really late.
"Come in," he mumbled wit his head under his pillow.
"Lets go scrawny Scott." His head shot up seeing Rachel standing in his bedroom. "Why are you in my bedroom this early in the morning Rachel?" Rachel walked around his room examining his bookshelf. Taking some books off the shelf and reading the inside. She looked at her watch and turned towards him. "Scott we don't have much time. Get up."
Lucas glared at Rachel. "Rachel why does Brooke hang out with you again?" He placed his feet on the ground sitting on his bed.
"Tsk Tsk. Of course I am number one supporter of Brooke here hence why I am the best of the best of friends. #1 some might say. Then Davis brothers, and then maybe Scott your #4. But its ok we will keep you around. I'm here to make sure you are dressed appropriately and look just as good as our Brooke today. So I'll be downstairs having coffee with your mother and waiting for you." When Lucas didn't move she continued, "Chop chop scrawny Scott we don't have all day."
Rachel had been inspecting her nails as Lucas came out of the dressing room. They had been shopping for an hour. Rachel had vetoed every single outfit he had tried on deeming it wasn't good enough to be seen standing next to Brooke. She nodded her head of approval with the current outfit he had on. "So Scrawny Scott whats the plan?"
"Rachel stop calling me that." She huffed and stood up, "Whats the plan for tonight to get my girl to get over her insecurities with you. I'm done and over it. Im ready for her to stop wallowing over everything when it comes to you so whats the plan?" Rachel might make fun of Lucas every time she sees him, but she liked him for her friend. Lucas was a great guy despite everything that had happened with Peyton. "So," she stood with her hands on her hips. Lucas's face got into that broody look, "Well my gifts this year, I think they are really going to blow her away." Lucas paid for his outfit and walked out with Rachel going into detail about his gifts.
Brooke and Nathan had just blew out their candles and were getting ready to go to the beach house for their party with their friends. Brooke heard a light knock on her door. "Come in!" she shouted from her closet. She heard the door open and close and she came out of her closet. "Lucas," she said shocked seeing him with two gifts in his hands. "Broody are those for me?" He nodded his head yes. "Give me give me," she held up her hands to him. Lucas laughed, "Someone is impatient." Brooke stuck her tongue out and decided on the small box.
She sat on her bed and ripped open the gift. "Hey, I worked hard on that wrapping!" Lucas joked. Brooke didn't listen. She saw a little black velvet box. She looked up at him raising and eyebrow. Brooke opened the box with a gasp escaping her mouth. "Lucas, this is oh my god, Lucas this is beautiful." It had been a gold locket, not too big not too small. She opened up to see 2 pictures of her and Lucas. Both from moments that were so memorable for her. She stood up immediately and turned around lifting her hair up. "Lucas I love it can you put it on me?" Lucas lifted the locket around her neck brushing some hair away. Brooke felt a shiver down her spine. She let down her hair and Lucas had his arms on her should. His lips gently brushed her cheek.
"Open the other," Lucas said his mouth so close to her ear and neck. She turned around and sat back down on her bed.
Brooke inspected the perfectly wrapped gift. She gave him a look wondering if he wrapped it. Lucas stood awkwardly, "My mom gave me a lesson on how to wrap a gift. The first time was terrible. It was embarrassing," he said and chuckled. He had his hands in his pocket. Lucas was looking very nervous.
Brooke shook the gift seeing if it would make a noise. She began to undo the delicate bow and then pulled back the first piece of paper. Brooke threw the paper to the side and looked down at a scrapbook. She looked up at Lucas. "I, I i've been working on this for a while. I hope you like it Brooke." Lucas was nervous. He was holding his breath as Brooke opened the book.
The first page contained the first picture they had ever taken. Brooke and Nathan had moved to Tree Hill in the Summer. Victoria had immediately invited their neighbors over for dinner and the pool. Victoria had taken a picture of Brooke and Lucas in the pool. Both had goggles suction cupped to their face. Both kids with huge smiles; Brooke missing her 2 front teeth that Nathan happened to knock out when he threw a basketball at Brooke's face. She ran her finger over the picture a smile forming on her face remembering that day.
She continued flipping through the pages. Ticket stubs from the movies they had seen together. Pictures from the Rivercourt, Cafe, and beach. The pictures started off innocent, and then began to move in the direction of when they started to show their feelings for each other. She turned to the middle school section. Their 8th grade dance, Lucas and Brooke had gone together. Karen helped Lucas get a corsage. The picture was taken in the backyard near the lake. Both of them staring into each other's eyes. The next page began the high school section of the scrapbook. The picture that caught her eye was a beach picture, Lucas had been sitting back to the ocean with Brooke in between his legs. The sun had been setting in the back.
And the last page was a letter.
Brooke began reading it to herself. Lucas took his hand rubbing it through his hair. They didn't really speak much as she went through the scrapbook. He worked so hard on it and was hoping it would show her how much he truly loved and cared for her.
Brooke closed the book and looked up with tears in her eyes. "Lucas," she said in a whisper. Lucas rocked back and forth. "I worked on this for the past 2 months. I really wanted you to love it Brooke. I know how much you love pictures and catching moments. My mom helped me, I didn't want it to be corny and I wanted to make sure everything looked perfect and..." Lucas continued to ramble on.
Brooke stood up and walked towards Lucas grabbing his face and crashing her lips on to his.
Brooke laid her back on Lucas's chest. They had been sitting on the beach watching the sun go down. The party was going on behind them. Right after Lucas had given her his gift, they drove to the beach house, but chose to go straight to the back to the beach at a secluded spot they loved going too. Lucas took his arms and wrapped them around Brooke, pulling her closer to him. She could feel his heartbeat against her back. She took her right hand fumbling with the necklace around her neck. A smile instantly brought to her face thinking how sweet and thoughtful Lucas had been this year with her birthday gifts.
She turned to look look at him locking eyes with the blue orbs. He took his thumb running it across her cheek. Brooke took a big gulp.
"This is going to work right? You and I? Us?"
"Brooke do you love me?" Brooke didn't hesitate, she nodded yes. Although she hasn't said it since before she left for California, she did love him. "Then pretty girl as long as you love me this will always work. Because I know I will never stop loving you, I haven't since the day you moved in." Brooke turned around facing Lucas. She moved towards him sitting on his lap facing him. His hands moved to her sides. Brooke grabbed onto Lucas's face and slammed her lips onto his. They stayed there both not wanting it to end but pulling away needing.
Lucas leaned forward touching his forhead to Brookes's. With a smile forming on her face, "Broody this is going to work."
