Denki was talking to his Mother-in-Law Mitsuki, trying to figure out what to do for his boyfriend Izuku. A month ago his support animal and friend Honey had passed, finally succumbing to old age and even though the verdanette expected it, it was still a huge blow to his heart.
He still smiled around everyone but his close friends knew he was sad, his aura giving it off in waves and it hurt. Izuku tried to move on but his first pet he had for eight years held a special place for him.
Denki knew it wouldn't replace his first but he had to try to at least give Izuku some companionship and the only thing they could think of was going to an Animal Shelter for him to find another pet. He just hopes Izuku won't think that he is trying to make him forget about Honey, last time Monoma suggested it and he got beaten to within an inch of his life.
"Where are we going, Rai?" Izuku asked while Mitsuki was driving them and Denki right next to the verdanette. "This is making me nervous."
"I know, Usagi, but please wait a little longer." Denki replied, lightly patting his boyfriend's arm to ease him. "I wanted to take you somewhere special as a gift. Just be aware it may be a little noisy."
Izuku nodded and swallowed a bit, but felt calm from the tingling sensation Denki's hands were giving him. Rai seemed to know when he needed comfort.
"Alright, brats, we are here." Mitsuki replied, and got out of the car. Immediately Izuku tensed when he heard barking and meowing, and his wings flared in worry.
"R-rai, where are we?"
"We are at Musatafu Animal Shelter." Denki replied and he sensed confusion, sadness, and anger in his boyfriend's field. "We, and I mean Momma, our friends, and I were worried about you when Honey passed, knowing how much she meant to you. You were sad and looked lonely and lost, don't tell me you weren't." Denki suddenly said when he felt Izuku tense and took a short breath. "You know I can see your emotions like it has been embroidered on your sleeve."
Izuku huffed and pulled off his blindfold, leaving the car in slight frustration. "I don't want another companion, Rai." Izuku growled, looking around him at the dogs that were in cages. It suddenly reminded him of when he was imprisoned, and he felt sorry for them. "I don't think I'm ready…"
Denki nodded in understanding. "How about we look for a bit, Momma already brought us here, can't have her driving go to waste."
Izuku sighed in defeat, knowing that Mitsuki would have a fit for wasting gas. "Ok, where should we look first?"
"Depends on what you want, Usagi. They of course have dogs and cats, but they also have rabbits, birds, and gerbils. We can look at what speaks to you first."
Izuku hummed and looked around the area. His heart was not in the mood and he did not want another pet, it was hard for him to see Honey's passing and he didn't think he could handle another.
However, now that he was here, he decided to humor them for the moment, heading to the area where they housed rabbits, hamsters, and ferrets. None of them piqued his interest, and none seemed interested in him so he went to the birds and he nearly burned everyone of them into chicken due to their squawking and immediately left. Denki seemed relieved too as he no longer dug his nails into his boyfriend's arms.
He didn't even want to bother with the cats, they were too aloof and hated cuddles. They were more of an Aizawa thing. So all that was left was the dogs. Izuku was amused by all the running, the slobbering, the dancing on hind legs by some of them, it was hilarious, but still none piqued his interest.
Sighing at the fruitless search he was about to tell them that he wanted to head home until a door opened and a worker came out with a small fluffy cream bundle with a cone on his head. Curious, he decided to ask.
"Excuse me."
"Yes, sir. How can I help you?" The worker asked, turning to reveal a small cream-colored Pomeranian, he had bandages around his arms and waist. He had the same spiky look as Katsuki that it threw him for a loop.
"Can you tell me more about this little guy?"
He stared at Izuku like he was slightly crazy but answered. "He's a firecracker that's for sure, he took on several dogs before one took him by surprise. The little guy is a fighter, literally." The worker then sighed worriedly. "Nearly took half the vets before we were able to sedate him to be treated."
Izuku looked at the little bundle and he heard a small growl, and it immediately reminded him of his brother. "How soon will he wake up?"
"You are planning to adopt him?" He asked in shock, and sweat trickled down when he saw the verdanette nod. "Should be soon, his high temp burns off sedation quickly. We also believe he has a Quirk as well."
Izuku nodded again and waited outside the Pomeranian's cage, waiting for him to wake up and when he did the verdanette had to do a double take at the feisty and pissed off attitude. "He acts just like Kacchan…" He said before getting his attention. "Hey little guy."
*grrrr* The pomeranian growled, staring at Izuku like he was challenging him. He stopped however when he saw a gentle smile that slightly contrasted the sadness in the verdanette's eyes. He came forward and sniffed Izuku.
"You remind me of my brother, acting all angry and all big, but you are a softie aren't you?" Izuku laughed when he heard the growl again, daring him to say that again. "Haha, yep, just like Kacchan. I think we will get along just fine, don't worry." Izuku said, winking at the pomeranian. "This will be our little secret."
And so, Katsu the Pomeranian came home with Izuku, Denki, and Mitsuki and neither of them could believe that this little puff had the same personality as Katsuki. His soul still lives in this yapping, feisty ball of fluff. Even more believable as his Quirk was Fire Claws.
