It was New Year's Day 2088. Just a week earlier, Professor Professor and Doctor Doctor had gotten engaged. It still didn't seem real to either of them, especially Doctor Doctor. She half-expected to wake up and have it all be a dream, but she knew that wouldn't have been fair. After all, her redemption arc was only just beginning. Besides, she had proof right there on her ring finger.
Anyway, the year was now 2088, and Professor Professor was heading off for another day at work. After going through the usual process of palm checks and other things like that, he finally made his way into the briefing room and sat down at his designated seat.
"Happy New Year, team!" Hooty McOwlface greeted joyously. "I'm sure you've already got New Year's resolutions all lined up."
"We sure do," Victor said.
"Good to hear, but first things first. For reasons of security, my name is Changed Daily. Today, you may call me..." His cellphone beeped and his mood dropped. "Oh... Willy Nilly Willy Way."
Everyone else in the briefing room just laughed.
"Anyway," Willy Nilly Willy Way continued. "I'm eager to hear what your New Year's resolutions are. Who wants to go first?"
Victor quickly shot his hand up in the air, eager to go first, with Anita and Professor Professor following him.
"Uh..." Willy Nilly Willy Way immediately picked out Anita. "Anita, why don't you go first?"
Victor's face deflated like a balloon while his wife just started sharing her resolutions for the new year.
"This year, I hope to spend as much time with my family as I can," Anita said. "I also hope to try new foods through the year and do my best to stay in shape."
"Sounds nice," Willy Nilly Willy Way said. "Uh, Victor, why don't you go next?"
"Uh, my resolutions are the same as hers," Victor stated. "Also, I'd like to spend more time with Mom if possible, and maybe try to put aside some time to talk to my dad at some point by visiting a laundromat or something."
Willy Nilly Willy Way just nodded politely. "Okay, I can get behind that. Last up is Professor Professor. What are your resolutions for the new year?"
Professor Professor beamed, knowing fully well this was a great opportunity to reveal his wedding plans. "Well, Doctor Doctor and I would like to get married this year, erm, sometime in August I believe. Also, for my resolutions, I'd like to try to talk to my mother and Maestro whenever possible."
Victor raised an eyebrow. "Wait, what was that first part you said?"
"Doctor Doctor and I would like to get married this year, hopefully sometime in August."
"What?"
"Yes, it's true. We really are getting married this year."
"What?! Why? Why would you marry our worst enemy?"
Professor Professor rolled his eyes. "Why do you think?"
Victor sighed. "I mean, not that we're not happy for you- because let's face it, we're not when Doctor Doctor is the one you're with -but there is one thing we gotta ask you."
"Jawohl, what is it?" Professor Professor asked.
"Where are you going to have it?" Anita asked.
"I don't really know," Professor Professor replied. "I was planning on leaving that up to her."
"Why not have it right here at U.Z.Z.?" Willy Nilly Willy Way asked.
Professor Professor pursed his lips. "Mmm, I don't know. Like I said, I was going to leave it up to her. After all, it's her day."
"It's your day, too, Professor Professor. Besides, if you have it here, I can officiate it just like I did with Zac Meadows and Dr. Hypno's wedding."
"Still not sure about that."
"Oh, come on! You know I'm an ordained minister!"
Professor Professor gave Willy Nilly Willy Way a cheeky smile. "Alright, I'll think about it. I'm just not sure how Doctor Doctor will react when I tell her we might have the wedding here."
"What do you mean you want to have the wedding at the U.Z.Z. base?" Doctor Doctor asked, miffed by what she'd just heard.
"Well, it wasn't so much my idea as it was Willy Nilly Willy Way's," Professor Professor replied. "He said our wedding day is just as much my day as it is yours. Honestly, I think he's right."
"Really? What would he know about weddings anyway? He's never been married."
"He officiated Zac Meadows and Dr. Hypno's wedding, remember?"
"Ah, that's right. But if what Willy Nilly Willy Way says is true, how are we supposed to make the wedding day our day?"
"Well..." Professor Professor got up from his chair at the kitchen table, his arms akimbo. "We could find a way to blend our cultures together for this special day. Like the best of both German and Russian cuisine, like smoked omul and Käsespätzle."
Doctor Doctor looked at him with intrigue in her eyes. "Ah, I see where you're going."
"Ja, and we can also bring together our loved ones under one roof. Well, that's assuming they can get along anyhow."
"Okay..."
"And we can also invite the Fairy Kingdom to our wedding!"
Doctor Doctor seemed a little less sure at that last suggestion. "I don't know. Granted, it's been two years since Princess Wulfrun turned me into a lamppost, but I'm not sure I'd trust her at the wedding."
"I'm sure King Oberon and Queen Titania will keep an eye on her."
"I certainly hope so. I really don't want to be turned into a lamppost again."
"Fortunately, I've been keeping in touch with her since the incident, so I'm sure she'd have no problem coming to the wedding. In fact, why don't I call her right now?" With that, he whipped out his cellphone and dialed in Wulfrun's phone number. He waited while it beeped on the other end before Wulfrun finally picked up. "Hello? Wulfrun, are you there?"
Wulfrun murmured something incomprehensibly on the other hand, implying she'd just woken up.
"Oh, did I wake you up?" Professor Professor asked sheepishly.
"Yes, yes, you did. You better have a good reason for interrupting my afternoon nap."
"Oh ja, of course. So... Doctor Doctor and I got engaged during Christmas and I was wondering if you and your parents would like to be at our wedding."
"Of course! How could we say no to a wedding? When is it?"
"August 8th."
Wulfrun let out a squeal of delight. "Can't wait! Is Victor going to be there?"
"I mean, why wouldn't he be? He's my co-worker."
"Just what I needed to hear. I can't wait to see him again. He's such a dreamboat."
Professor Professor chuckled. "He certainly is. So you and your family are coming to the wedding, right?"
"Yes, we'll be there. Okay, I need to go back to my afternoon nap. Thanks for inviting me to the wedding, Professor Professor."
"No problem, it's the least I could do. Bye bye." With that, Professor Professor hung up. He then turned his attention to Doctor Doctor. "Well then, it looks like we've got a wedding to plan."
